GAEREA to nic innego jak piękna zagadka zakorzeniona w muzycznej ekstremie i absolutnej pasji. W mniej niż dekadę zamaskowany kolektyw, który narodził się w portugalskim Porto, przeszedł przez niezliczone mroczne odmiany metalu, by dotrzeć do swojego piątego albumu i debiutu w Century Media - Loss.

'Zrobiliśmy to, co zawsze robimy - podążaliśmy za instynktem', mówi anonimowy wokalista GAEREA. 'Ale coś mi mówi, że na tym nowym albumie są elementy, które pokochają zarówno nasi nowi, jak i starzy fani, choć niekoniecznie tego się po nas spodziewają.'

Loss to dźwięk GAEREA w procesie nieustannego definiowania i redefiniowania siebie - z elementami post black metalu, wyostrzonym brzmieniem i nawiedzającymi melodiami. Zespół wychodzi z twórczej poczwarki, eksplodując czymś równie angażującym, co nieoczekiwanym: pojawia się śpiew, są refreny chwytliwe i pełne pasji niczym najlepsze utwory rockowe i metalowe. A jednak, mimo emocjonalnego zgiełku, to wciąż

If you are not familiar with the Portuguese metal warship, you are missing out big time. The 4-piece has been around for a decade and have been making headlines ever since. From straight up black metal to post-black to what they’ve released on ‘Loss’, Gaerea have been pushing boundaries in the black metal genre and they push it even further with the release of their 2026 release ‘Loss’ through Century Media Records.

After seeing them play live in 2022 alongside Gaahl’s Wyrd and Saor, Gaerea took the reins and dominated that show without a doubt. The sheer perfection that outed itself in an almost religious performance by Alpha (vocalist) made me a fan and I purchased their (then) latest record ‘Mirage’. That album pushed some boundaries in the black metal genre and gave them the label (in my books) as post-black metal. ‘Mirage’ was also the last album with Ruben Freitas who quit the band after the ‘Mirage’ release. The then guitarist Guilherme Henriques (Alpha) took over the vocalist duty and in 2024 released the album ‘Coma’. ‘Coma’ received incredibly good reviews and put their name in the spotlight.

With the 2026 release ‘Loss’, Gaerea have cemented themselves as the most innovative band in the world. Probably hated or disliked by the fans who stick to the earlier work of Gaerea but the Portuguese warship continues their journey in the way they want to sail. With the sound being changed since ‘Mirage’, Gaerea brings a newer, fresher and modern sound to the black metal genre through the albums ‘Coma’ and ‘Loss’. Where ‘Coma’ was the scaffolding for the follow-up album, Gaerea took it and made it into a wonderful finished building.

‘Loss’ did surprise me since I have not listened a lot to their ‘Coma’ album but after listening to it prior to the release of ‘Loss’, I do hear that Gaerea has found their sound that should bring them to the top of the charts and/or festivals. With the metalheads (that I speak and talk to) more opening up to intertwining genres, Gaerea will be appreciated by more than just the fans of black metal. ‘Coma’ gave a notice to the modern metal fans but ‘Loss’ will certainly draw a lot more fans towards their sound.

Gaerea’s sound is polished. Gaerea’s mastering is close to perfection. The mastering of the instruments of ‘Loss’ is flawless. With the addition of Delta (Sonja Schuringa, guitarist) in 2023, the Dutch are presented in a perfect picture. With Diogo Mota (drums) and Lucas Ferrand (bass) since 2018 and 2017, Gaerea has a very steady foundation to build further from (then) an experimental album ‘Coma’ to the perfected album ‘Loss’.

With Gaerea’s experience from multiple genres, they have been throwing structures into songs that fit perfectly and flawlessly. Gaerea made hits where you can sing along to. Songs like ‘Luminary’, ‘Hellbound’ and ‘Cyclone’ have been in my head multiple times throughout the process of listening to this album. Like I said, Gaerea not only cemented themselves on top of the modern metal charts but also in my head for many days.

To name one time on ‘Loss’ where you can hear the experience and musicianship, is when the transition from the instrumental song ‘Lbrnth’ flows to ‘Nomad’. That transition almost always gives me the chills every time I listen to ‘Loss’. Yes, you can listen to the songs by themselves but I know that nowadays not everybody has the attention span for taking time to listen to a full album.

With elements of hardcore/metalcore/black metal, Gaerea gave post-black metal a new Portuguese face. Gaerea has built a masterpiece in the form of ‘Loss’. With melancholic elements and moments that will turn the heads of fans of Architects and Sempiternal era Bring Me The Horizon towards Gaerea’s sound, Gaerea will cement their spot in the modern metal scene with their own unique sound. They will make a lot more new fans with this new/perfected sound. With performances on huge festivals like Hellfest (France) and Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium), metalfans will get introduced to Gaerea with full force and might.

Zremasterowana i doskonale brzmiąca edycja wydanego w 1978 roku wyśmienitego, debiutanckiego albumu progresywnej supergrupy złożonej z byłych członków King Crimson (John Wetton, Bill Bruford), Roxy Music (Eddie Jobson), Zappy (Terry Bozzio) i Tempest (Allan Holdsworth). Brudford i Holdsworth grali tylko na debiutanckim albumie.

Była to ostatnia formacja lat 70-tych z powodzeniem nawiązująca do najlepszych dokonań gatunku. Dodatkowo ponad 30 minut doskonałego, koncertowego grania w doskonałej jakości, w tym nie wydany na żadnej płycie 'Forever Until Sunday'.

Doskonały, czysty, naturalny dźwięk - bijący na głowę wcześniejsze wersje!



Po rozwiązaniu King Crimson w połowie lat 70., John Wetton i Bill Bruford przez dłuższy czas nie potrafili znaleźć dla siebie satysfakcjonującego zajęcia. Wetton przewinął się przez składy Roxy Music i Uriah Heep, Bruford wspomagał właśnie założony National Health i zasilił koncertowy skład Genesis - żadnej z tych posad nie utrzymali jednak przez dłużej niż parę miesięcy. Pod koniec 1976 roku obaj muzycy postanowili odnowić współpracę ze sobą. W planach było stworzenie tria z Rickiem Wakemanem, jednak klawiszowiec ostatecznie zdecydował się na powrót do Yes. Bruford tymczasem nagrał swój pierwszy solowy album ("Feels Good to Me"), by następnie podjąć kolejną próbę stworzenia zespołu z Wettonem. Basista zasugerował zaproszenie do składu grającego na skrzypcach i instrumentach klawiszowych Eddiego Jobsona, z którym występował już w Roxy Music (mającego na koncie także współpracę z Curved Air i Frankiem Zappą), natomiast perkusista zasugerował gitarzystę ze swojego solowego zespołu, Allana Holdswortha (znanego też z Nucleus, Soft Machine, The New Tony Williams' Lifetime i Gong). Supergrupa - bo nie sposób inaczej określić składu z takimi osiągnięciami - przybrała nazwę U.K.

Często można spotkać się z opiniami, że to ostatni z wielkich zespołów progresywnych. Sporo w tym jednak przesady. U.K. zadebiutował w czasie, gdy wszystko w muzyce tego typu zostało już dawno wymyślone. Muzycy zresztą nie mieli ambicji, by poszerzać granice rocka. a jedynie grać muzykę będącą sumą ich dotychczasowych doświadczeń. Niektórzy traktują też U.K. jako bezpośrednią kontynuację King Crimson z okresu 1973-74. Jest w tym nawet pewna logika. Barwa głosu i sposób śpiewania Wettona jakoś drastycznie się od tamtego czasu nie zmieniły. Podobieństwo słychać też w grze jego i Bruforda, wykorzystującej zbliżone lub wręcz identyczne rozwiązania rytmiczne, choć tylko czasem brzmiącej równie masywnie. Ale już taki Holdsworth jest zupełnie innym gitarzystą, niż Robert Fripp - bardziej konwencjonalnym i zdecydowanie mocniej ukierunkowanym na jazz (w tej mocno skomercjalizowanej formie późnego fusion). Ponadto, w zespole jest postacią zdecydowanie drugoplanową, dopełniającą brzmienie, gdy tylko pozwolą na to pozostali członkowie. Jobson jest natomiast lepszym skrzypkiem i klawiszowcem od Davida Crossa. I o ile Cross grał głównie na skrzypcach lub altówce, czasem tylko siadając za melotronem lub elektrycznym pianinem, tak podstawowym instrumentem Jobsona są syntezatory.

Twórczość U.K. należy raczej traktować jako pomost pomiędzy klasycznym progiem, a muzyką graną przez wielu przedstawicieli tego nurtu w latach 80. (mam tu na myśli przede wszystkim popową twórczość Genesis i Yes, czy grupę Asia, a w mniejszym stopniu neo-progowych epigonów). Słyszalny jest tu zwrot ku bardziej piosenkowej formie utworów, większy nacisk na przebojowe melodie. Nie można też zapomnieć o brzmieniu, które nierzadko zdominowane jest przez modne wtedy - a dziś tandetne - syntezatory. To już ten typowo ejtisowy plastik. Jednak muzycy starali się utrzymać pewien poziom artystyczny. Na debiutanckim albumie właściwie tylko "Time to Kill" bezwstydnie podąża w stronę radiowej chałtury, niejako zapowiadając późniejsze dokonania Wettona z Asią (broni się jednak instrumentalny fragment z solówką Jobsona na skrzypcach). Bo już w takich "In the Dead of Night", "By the Light of Day" i "Presto Vivace and Reprise" (tworzących coś na kształt rockowej suity) duża przebojowość idzie w parze z niebanalnym wykonaniem. Kwartet nie unika też bardziej złożonego grania. Z mniej przekonującym skutkiem w "Thirty Years", z nieco zbyt rzewną i monotonną częścią balladową oraz zbyt toporną grą Holdswortha w rozwinięciu. A ze znacznie ciekawszym efektem w pokotłowanej rytmicznie "Alasce" (brzmiącej trochę jak skrzyżowanie ELP z Mahavishnu Orchestra), oraz najbardziej jazzujących "Nevermore" i "Mental Medication", w których nieco bardziej wykazać mógł się gitarzysta.

Eponimiczny debiut U.K. to naprawdę przyjemne wydawnictwo na pograniczu klasycznego proga i komercyjnego jazz rocka (z naciskiem na to pierwsze), niepozbawione pewnych wad (plastikowe brzmienie klawiszy, nie zawsze ciekawe kompozycje), nie przynoszące w sumie niczego nowatorskiego, ale dość unikalne i posiadające bardzo dobre wykonanie (szczególnie sekcji rytmicznej Wetton / Bruford i Jobsona na skrzypcach, choć Holdsworth też miewa przebłyski). Album wypada na pewno lepiej od większości ówczesnych dokonań czołowych przedstawicieli głównego nurtu rocka progresywnego, choć oczywiście daleko mu do arcydzieł w rodzaju "In the Court of the Crimson King", "Close to the Edge", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Octopuss" czy "Pawn Hearts".

Zremasterowana i doskonale brzmiąca edycja wydanego w 1978 roku wyśmienitego, debiutanckiego albumu progresywnej supergrupy złożonej z byłych członków King Crimson (John Wetton, Bill Bruford), Roxy Music (Eddie Jobson), Zappy (Terry Bozzio) i Tempest (Allan Holdsworth). Brudford i Holdsworth grali tylko na debiutanckim albumie.

Była to ostatnia formacja lat 70-tych z powodzeniem nawiązująca do najlepszych dokonań gatunku. Dodatkowo ponad 30 minut doskonałego, koncertowego grania w doskonałej jakości, w tym nie wydany na żadnej płycie 'Forever Until Sunday'.

Doskonały, czysty, naturalny dźwięk - bijący na głowę wcześniejsze wersje!



Po rozwiązaniu King Crimson w połowie lat 70., John Wetton i Bill Bruford przez dłuższy czas nie potrafili znaleźć dla siebie satysfakcjonującego zajęcia. Wetton przewinął się przez składy Roxy Music i Uriah Heep, Bruford wspomagał właśnie założony National Health i zasilił koncertowy skład Genesis - żadnej z tych posad nie utrzymali jednak przez dłużej niż parę miesięcy. Pod koniec 1976 roku obaj muzycy postanowili odnowić współpracę ze sobą. W planach było stworzenie tria z Rickiem Wakemanem, jednak klawiszowiec ostatecznie zdecydował się na powrót do Yes. Bruford tymczasem nagrał swój pierwszy solowy album ("Feels Good to Me"), by następnie podjąć kolejną próbę stworzenia zespołu z Wettonem. Basista zasugerował zaproszenie do składu grającego na skrzypcach i instrumentach klawiszowych Eddiego Jobsona, z którym występował już w Roxy Music (mającego na koncie także współpracę z Curved Air i Frankiem Zappą), natomiast perkusista zasugerował gitarzystę ze swojego solowego zespołu, Allana Holdswortha (znanego też z Nucleus, Soft Machine, The New Tony Williams' Lifetime i Gong). Supergrupa - bo nie sposób inaczej określić składu z takimi osiągnięciami - przybrała nazwę U.K.

Często można spotkać się z opiniami, że to ostatni z wielkich zespołów progresywnych. Sporo w tym jednak przesady. U.K. zadebiutował w czasie, gdy wszystko w muzyce tego typu zostało już dawno wymyślone. Muzycy zresztą nie mieli ambicji, by poszerzać granice rocka. a jedynie grać muzykę będącą sumą ich dotychczasowych doświadczeń. Niektórzy traktują też U.K. jako bezpośrednią kontynuację King Crimson z okresu 1973-74. Jest w tym nawet pewna logika. Barwa głosu i sposób śpiewania Wettona jakoś drastycznie się od tamtego czasu nie zmieniły. Podobieństwo słychać też w grze jego i Bruforda, wykorzystującej zbliżone lub wręcz identyczne rozwiązania rytmiczne, choć tylko czasem brzmiącej równie masywnie. Ale już taki Holdsworth jest zupełnie innym gitarzystą, niż Robert Fripp - bardziej konwencjonalnym i zdecydowanie mocniej ukierunkowanym na jazz (w tej mocno skomercjalizowanej formie późnego fusion). Ponadto, w zespole jest postacią zdecydowanie drugoplanową, dopełniającą brzmienie, gdy tylko pozwolą na to pozostali członkowie. Jobson jest natomiast lepszym skrzypkiem i klawiszowcem od Davida Crossa. I o ile Cross grał głównie na skrzypcach lub altówce, czasem tylko siadając za melotronem lub elektrycznym pianinem, tak podstawowym instrumentem Jobsona są syntezatory.

Twórczość U.K. należy raczej traktować jako pomost pomiędzy klasycznym progiem, a muzyką graną przez wielu przedstawicieli tego nurtu w latach 80. (mam tu na myśli przede wszystkim popową twórczość Genesis i Yes, czy grupę Asia, a w mniejszym stopniu neo-progowych epigonów). Słyszalny jest tu zwrot ku bardziej piosenkowej formie utworów, większy nacisk na przebojowe melodie. Nie można też zapomnieć o brzmieniu, które nierzadko zdominowane jest przez modne wtedy - a dziś tandetne - syntezatory. To już ten typowo ejtisowy plastik. Jednak muzycy starali się utrzymać pewien poziom artystyczny. Na debiutanckim albumie właściwie tylko "Time to Kill" bezwstydnie podąża w stronę radiowej chałtury, niejako zapowiadając późniejsze dokonania Wettona z Asią (broni się jednak instrumentalny fragment z solówką Jobsona na skrzypcach). Bo już w takich "In the Dead of Night", "By the Light of Day" i "Presto Vivace and Reprise" (tworzących coś na kształt rockowej suity) duża przebojowość idzie w parze z niebanalnym wykonaniem. Kwartet nie unika też bardziej złożonego grania. Z mniej przekonującym skutkiem w "Thirty Years", z nieco zbyt rzewną i monotonną częścią balladową oraz zbyt toporną grą Holdswortha w rozwinięciu. A ze znacznie ciekawszym efektem w pokotłowanej rytmicznie "Alasce" (brzmiącej trochę jak skrzyżowanie ELP z Mahavishnu Orchestra), oraz najbardziej jazzujących "Nevermore" i "Mental Medication", w których nieco bardziej wykazać mógł się gitarzysta.

Eponimiczny debiut U.K. to naprawdę przyjemne wydawnictwo na pograniczu klasycznego proga i komercyjnego jazz rocka (z naciskiem na to pierwsze), niepozbawione pewnych wad (plastikowe brzmienie klawiszy, nie zawsze ciekawe kompozycje), nie przynoszące w sumie niczego nowatorskiego, ale dość unikalne i posiadające bardzo dobre wykonanie (szczególnie sekcji rytmicznej Wetton / Bruford i Jobsona na skrzypcach, choć Holdsworth też miewa przebłyski). Album wypada na pewno lepiej od większości ówczesnych dokonań czołowych przedstawicieli głównego nurtu rocka progresywnego, choć oczywiście daleko mu do arcydzieł w rodzaju "In the Court of the Crimson King", "Close to the Edge", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Octopuss" czy "Pawn Hearts".
