Europe to szwedzki zespół rockowy założony w Upplands-Väsby w 1979 roku przez wokalistę Joeya Tempesta i gitarzystę Johna Noruma . Zespół osiągnął sukces, wygrywając telewizyjny konkurs Rock-SM (Swedish Rock Championship), który po raz pierwszy odbył się w 1982 roku.
Europe zyskał międzynarodową sławę w latach 80. XX wieku dzięki trzeciemu albumowi , „The Final Countdown” , wydanemu w 1986 roku.
Jednak ich kariera początkowo borykała się z trudnościami, ponieważ wytwórnie płytowe, do których wysyłali dema, wymagały od nich obcięcia włosów i śpiewania po szwedzku zamiast po angielsku.

Joey Tempest nazwał album „re-debiutem” zespołu, ze względu na unowocześnienie brzmienia i zmianę gatunku. Podobnie jak „The Final Countdown” , został on wyprodukowany przez Kevina Elsona . Dwa lata później ukazał się „Secret Society” , który trafił na pięć list przebojów.
21 lipca 2009 roku były basista zespołu, Marcel Jacob, popełnił samobójstwo w wieku 45 lat.
W 2023 roku zespół ogłosił trasę koncertową z okazji 40. rocznicy istnienia , zatytułowaną „Time Capsule” , obejmującą koncerty w 8 krajach europejskich. Trasa rozpoczęła się 30 września 2023 roku w Lozannie w Szwajcarii, a zakończyła 26 października 2023 roku w Londynie w Anglii.
Od momentu powstania zespół wydał 12 albumów studyjnych, 3 albumy koncertowe, 3 albumy kompilacyjne i 24 teledyski.

Oprócz zremasterowanej oryginalnej płyty LP z 1974 r., rozszerzona edycja 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition zawiera dwa nagrania demo z tamtego okresu oraz kompletny, wcześniej niepublikowany koncert z trasy koncertowej z tego samego roku promującej album.



In keeping with the deluxe package in which it appears, Ray Robertson’s essay for the 50th Anniversary Edition of Grateful Dead’s From The Mars Hotel is one of the best in the series. Prose, as amiable as it is passionate, is also most insightful in its observations on the state of the iconic band circa 1974. Plus, it’s personalized: the author’s self-designation as a ‘headphone head’ will resonate with those similarly inclined music lovers (and bring a knowing grin to their faces!).

Naturally, the first disc of the three here includes the original album. Music remastered by David Glasser displays an enveloping, tactile presence, content ever-so-slightly expanded with demo versions of “China Doll” and “Wave That Flag.” This track sequencing reaffirms the pragmatic solidity of the original eight cuts; the latter is an early incarnation of “U.S. Blues,” while the former is as touching in its own way as Phil’s doom-laden co-authoring with Bobby Peterson’s “Unbroken Chain.”

Those alternately whimsical and tormented touchpoints come to life with the high-contrast instrumental additions of Ned Lagin’s synth on the aforementioned “Chain” and John McFee’s pedal steel on the same writing team’s “Pride of Cucamonga.” While the band had not yet become as (overly) self-conscious about studio work as it would later in its career, the recordings of From The Mars Hotel are less transcendent than simply utilitarian. Perhaps that’s because the prolific stream of original material dating back to 1970 was dissipating.

Or maybe, as the essayist hints, there were concerns more practical than artistic in this endeavor (the possible ‘inspiration’ for the decidedly desultory likes of Bob Weir and John Perry Barlow’s “Money Money”?). That state of affairs may have also engendered the overly playful (and abruptly concluded) likes of “Loose Lucy,” hearkening a bit too closely to both “Tennessee Jed” and “He’s Gone,” the innate bounce in the tune nevertheless allows depiction of the ensemble’s nimble navigation skills with Bill Kreutzmann as the sole drummer.

Regardless, From The Mars Hotel did bequeath regular insertions of its material into live setlists, two of which reside within the show that comprises the remainder of this panoramic collection of songs. In a subliminal pairing of topical compositions, “U.S. Blues” and “Ship Of Fools” bookend the track sequence on the main LP and, as such, they function as cautionary tales about the world at large, perhaps no more or less effectively than when placed within the twenty-two concert selections from the initial road appearance of the legendary ‘Wall of Sound.’

Taking place within a month or so of the release of the seventh Grateful Dead studio album on 5/12/74 in Reno, Nevada, Bill ‘Kidd’ Candelario’s engineering misses only the opening offering of Chuck Berry’s “Promised Land.” And while that shortfall is minor in and of itself, hearing the near four hours duration otherwise delineates why neither Robertson nor archivist David Lemieux goes into great detail about the performance: unlike the comparably mammoth but wholly stirring Lyceum Theatre, London, England 5/26/72, sparks fly throughout the concert, and embers smolder near the end, but no flames ever catch.

Preceding and following the progression from “Truckin'” into “The Other One” and a somewhat amorphous attendant jam, the Dead otherwise flourish throughout with concise takes on a broad range of material (as smoothly as 1977?) including “It Must Have Been The Roses,” “Jack Straw” and another Chuck Berry tune “Around And Around.” But the closer that is “Sugar Magnolia” never quite reaches euphoric heights, despite some of the most energized piano playing Keith Godchaux ever contributed to the sound of the Grateful Dead (similarly engaged likes of which appear throughout).

Skewed stage banter suggests an oddly disjointed group mindset during this outdoor concert. It’s conceivable that fatigue set in toward the conclusion of the performance. Or maybe the new sound system was taking some getting used to. Regardless, the ultimately muffled impact of the show as a whole intimates why this release was ideal: flaws aside, it is fully complementary to the studio set.

Complete and comprehensive as is this 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, the cover art not only expands upon the original graphics of the album but also distinguishes itself from its similarly-designed predecessors in the milestone series. Relegating the colorful but bizarre figures of the bandmembers to inside the triple-fold digipak, the front 3D image appears on the outer sleeve in a flat finish, embossed in such a way it begs for close perusal.

An ever-so-accurate reflection of the Kelley/Mouse Studios work that graced other Grateful Dead albums (as well as much poster art of the Sixties), such multiple perspectives also reside at the heart of the sound inside, at its best moments.

Those alternately whimsical and tormented touchpoints come to life with the high-contrast instrumental additions of Ned Lagin’s synth on the aforementioned “Chain” and John McFee’s pedal steel on the same writing team’s “Pride of Cucamonga.” While the band had not yet become as (overly) self-conscious about studio work as it would later in its career, the recordings of From The Mars Hotel are less transcendent than simply utilitarian. Perhaps that’s because the prolific stream of original material dating back to 1970 was dissipating.

Or maybe, as the essayist hints, there were concerns more practical than artistic in this endeavor (the possible ‘inspiration’ for the decidedly desultory likes of Bob Weir and John Perry Barlow’s “Money Money”?). That state of affairs may have also engendered the overly playful (and abruptly concluded) likes of “Loose Lucy,” hearkening a bit too closely to both “Tennessee Jed” and “He’s Gone,” the innate bounce in the tune nevertheless allows depiction of the ensemble’s nimble navigation skills with Bill Kreutzmann as the sole drummer.

Regardless, From The Mars Hotel did bequeath regular insertions of its material into live setlists, two of which reside within the show that comprises the remainder of this panoramic collection of songs. In a subliminal pairing of topical compositions, “U.S. Blues” and “Ship Of Fools” bookend the track sequence on the main LP and, as such, they function as cautionary tales about the world at large, perhaps no more or less effectively than when placed within the twenty-two concert selections from the initial road appearance of the legendary ‘Wall of Sound.’

Taking place within a month or so of the release of the seventh Grateful Dead studio album on 5/12/74 in Reno, Nevada, Bill ‘Kidd’ Candelario’s engineering misses only the opening offering of Chuck Berry’s “Promised Land.” And while that shortfall is minor in and of itself, hearing the near four hours duration otherwise delineates why neither Robertson nor archivist David Lemieux goes into great detail about the performance: unlike the comparably mammoth but wholly stirring Lyceum Theatre, London, England 5/26/72, sparks fly throughout the concert, and embers smolder near the end, but no flames ever catch.

Preceding and following the progression from “Truckin'” into “The Other One” and a somewhat amorphous attendant jam, the Dead otherwise flourish throughout with concise takes on a broad range of material (as smoothly as 1977?) including “It Must Have Been The Roses,” “Jack Straw” and another Chuck Berry tune “Around And Around.” But the closer that is “Sugar Magnolia” never quite reaches euphoric heights, despite some of the most energized piano playing Keith Godchaux ever contributed to the sound of the Grateful Dead (similarly engaged likes of which appear throughout).

Skewed stage banter suggests an oddly disjointed group mindset during this outdoor concert. It’s conceivable that fatigue set in toward the conclusion of the performance. Or maybe the new sound system was taking some getting used to. Regardless, the ultimately muffled impact of the show as a whole intimates why this release was ideal: flaws aside, it is fully complementary to the studio set.

Complete and comprehensive as is this 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, the cover art not only expands upon the original graphics of the album but also distinguishes itself from its similarly-designed predecessors in the milestone series. Relegating the colorful but bizarre figures of the bandmembers to inside the triple-fold digipak, the front 3D image appears on the outer sleeve in a flat finish, embossed in such a way it begs for close perusal.

An ever-so-accurate reflection of the Kelley/Mouse Studios work that graced other Grateful Dead albums (as well as much poster art of the Sixties), such multiple perspectives also reside at the heart of the sound inside, at its best moments.

Here we have the second in a planned series of three boxed sets featuring John Wetton's live albums, and having long been a fan I admit I already have most of the ones included here. Seven albums spread across 10 discs, 124 tracks with a total running time of more than 10 hours, this was a labour of love to get through as it is a great deal of listening, yet I enjoyed every second of it. The albums have been fully remastered by Andy Pearce, but there are not too many bonus cuts, so if you already have these then you need to think hard as this is not a cheap set. The booklet is extensive, with notes written by Jerry Ewing, plus lots of photographs, but I must confess that while the Wetton biography is fascinating and incredibly detailed, I would rather have heard more about the concerts included herein. As one would expect we get material from Asia, King Crimson and UK as well as his solo albums, and the live sets included here are 'Heart of the Dragon', 'Landmarq (Live In the Netherlands', Live In Tokyo 1997', 'Live In Tokyo II 1997', 'Nomansland', 'Sub Rosa (2024 Redux)', 'Live At the Sun Plaza Tokyo 1999 (2024 Redux)', and Andy Pearce has done a great job in ensuring the production is clear and clean with the sound levels nicely balanced across all discs.
Back in the Nineties John may not have been selling out mega stadiums as he had done at other times in his career (I remember seeing him play in a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere), but his musicianship and vocals are in top form. The discs are placed in order, from 1994-1999, and John is the only constant, although Dave Kilminster plays on seven of the discs (the next closest is Martin Orford with five). Wetton had played on so many important and classic albums/songs that he could have easily played a set with none of his solo material included, but here he mixes them in with songs from his career to loud applause, and rightly so.

There is an album in this set which I had not previously come across, 'Landmarq (Live In the Netherlands' which was recorded on November 26th1995, and the reason for the album title is that his band that night was Landmarq (well, mostly). Apparently, John undertook a tour that year which involved getting local bands to be his musicians, and Landmarq were asked to play a date in Germany and two in Holland. However, keyboard player Steve Leigh was unavailable, so they asked Martin Orford (IQ/Jadis) to step in instead. Given that Martin then played with John for years it shows how well it went. So the line-up was Uwe D'Rose (guitar), Steve Gee (bass, fretless bass - he only played when John was on acoustic) and Dave Wagstaffe (drums) from Landmarq, Martin Orford (keyboards) plus Tracy Hitchings on backing vocals. Tracey was not Landmarq's singer at the time, although she was later of course, but she was Dave's partner, and it is possible that given Damian had not been back in the band very long at this point that he was unable to commit. It is certainly an interesting experiment, and while it works for the most part, there is also a feeling of it being somewhat under-rehearsed with a few minor mistakes here and there. My favourite track is "Battle Lines", the title cut of the album he was promoting at the time, with Tracy and John creating some wonderful vocal harmonies together.

Also included in this set is my favourite Wetton live album of all time, 'Sub Rosa', an album I loved when it was released and I still play to this day, and this has two additional songs not on the original! What makes this such a wonderful concert is that it was recorded in an unusual venue, the mediaeval Castle of Vigevano, and was primarily an acoustic gig with no drums, with John joined just by Dave Kilminster (guitar, vocals) and Martin Orford (keyboards, flute, vocals). There is a huge amount of space within this album, and songs such as "Heat of the Moment" are truly transformed, so very different indeed to what we have all come to know and expect, with the hidden beauty laid bared for all to hear. This concert took place the day after John's wife had given birth to his son, so needless to say he was full of emotion, and it comes out in the performance. This is not bombastic, but the total opposite, allowing the songs to speak for themselves, and it is very strange indeed to hear the likes of "Soul Survivor" with two acoustic guitars, piano, and just the odd electronic keyboard, with the three vocals joining together as one. The version of "Arkangel" we hear is much closer to the original demo by John Young, and even though there are a few issues with the introduction they soon settle down and allow John's vocals to be front and centre.

There is indeed a lot of listening here, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and for any fan of Wetton this is essential.

Siódmy, najnowszy album solowy Rogera Taylora. Roger Meddows Taylor (ur. 26 lipca 1949 w King’s Lynn) to brytyjski muzyk rockowy. Najbardziej znany jako perkusista grupy Queen, ponadto był wokalistą The Cross i nagrał pięć albumów solowych. Oprócz gry na perkusji, potrafi śpiewać mocnym głosem o ciekawej barwie. Szósty, najnowszy album studyjny duńskiego zespołu punkowo-rockowego Iceage. Ukazał się 29 maja 2026 roku nakładem wytwórni Mexican Summer. Iceage to duński zespół założony w 2008 roku. W styczniu 2011 roku wraz z ukazaniem się ich debiutanckiego albumu New Brigade zyskał duże zainteresowanie mediów, a jego powstanie uznano za reaktywację duńskiej sceny punkowej. Magazyn muzyczny Soundvenue określił ich album jako „prawdopodobnie najważniejszy duński album od czasu Kliches Supertanker. Iceage powstał w 2008 roku, gdy członkowie zespołu mieli około 17 lat.
