Cheap Trick – amerykański zespół powstały w 1975 r. Ich muzyka łączyła punk-rock, pop i heavy metal. W 1977 r. grupa wydała swój pierwszy album Cheap Trick. W tym samym roku powstała druga płyta In Color.
Zespół Cheap Trick bardzo rzadko cieszył się mainstreamowym sukcesem, chociaż miał wielu miłośników, co zawdzięczał częstym trasom koncertowym i połączeniu popowych dźwięków z melodyjnością Beatlesów i energią punk rocka. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.

Narbo Dacal poznałem przy okazji ich trasy z Hydra i Las Trumien, która jakiś czas temu przemieszczała się przez Polskę. Wdziałem ich przy okazji krakowskiego koncertu, który był jednym z pierwszych ich występów ever.

Bardzo fajnie wtedy wypadli mając na koncie jedynie EP, dlatego czekałem na debiut z niecierpliwością. I się doczekałem. „Elysium Now” jest przez mnie słuchane od dość dawna i cieszy mnie niezmiernie przy każdej okazji obcowania z tą muzyką. Ale jak nie znacie tego zespołu to należy się Wam jakieś wprowadzenie. Co gra Narbo Dacal? Na mój gust jest to jakaś mieszanka stoner sludge doom rocka metalu z niewiastą o pięknym głosie za mikrofonem. Warto też nadmienić, że owa pani obsługuje też bas. Po tej definicji można by się spodziewać dość mocnego muzycznego zamieszania. I tak też trochę jest.

Kawałki różnią się między sobą dość sporo i możliwe, że wynika to z ogromu muzyki pochłanianej przez członków tej kapeli. Przeróżne inspiracje na pewno grają tu kluczową rolę. Ale co ciekawe, nie brakuje tej muzyce klimatu. Lekko narkotyczny, hipnotyczny, wciągający nastrój dominuje na tym materiale. Mimo, że nie do końca wszystko mi tu gra tak jakbym sobie tego życzył, to właśnie ten przedziwny klimat każe mi wracać w kółko do tego wydawnictwa. Nie będę ukrywał: sam jestem zaskoczony. Dlatego polecam sobie samemu sprawdzić „Elysium Now”, bo nawet jeśli „na papierze” ta kapela nie brzmi dla Was za dobrze, to jest spora szansa, że mimo wszytko ta muzyka Was pochłonie tak jak mnie.

Czekam też z niecierpliwością na trasę koncertową z Wij, która odbędzie się początkiem przyszłego roku i na szczęście będzie też sztuka w moim mieście, więc zamierzam się na tym wstępie pojawić i zobaczyć jak oczaruje mnie muzyka z „Elysium Now” na żywo.

Pathologist



Narbo Dacal to dość młody krakowski zespół. Trio, na czele którego stoi Eliza "Eli" Ratusznik - wokalistka i basistka zarazem. Być może niektórym znana z zespołu Autrowersja. Resztę składu uzupełniają perkusista Bartek i gitarzysta Drut. Podobno obaj panowie związani są z metalowo-punkowymi scenami zasilając rożne kapele w różnym czasie, chociażby Owls Woods Graves, Face of Hate, Dizel, Inkwizycja, Tripis, Goblin Market, Mikirurka. I tak oto Narbo Dacal kreuje swój samozwańczy gatunek określany mianem "(be)witching metal".

Po kilku singlach i EP, "Elysium Now" jest debiutanckim albumem zespołu zarejestrowanym w studiu No Solace pod okiem Mikołaja Żentary (M.) znanego z zespołu Mgła. Zapewne pan M. zna się z perkusistą Narbo Dacal chociażby ze współtworzenia Owls Woods Graves, więc współpraca się układała. Muzycznie mamy tutaj interesującą mieszankę wolnych, przytłaczających sludge metalowych riffów i post-metalowych zagrywek oraz melodii. Co mnie wcale nie dziwi, gdyż ostaniami czasy polskie podziemie nasyca się coraz bardziej kapelami łączącymi sludge metal lub black metal z post-metalem. A dodatkowo Narbo Dacal zawiera także właśnie black metalowy pierwiastek, który miejscami odpowiada za przyśpieszenie instrumentarium. Z jednej strony mamy potężne gitarowe uderzenia, gruchoczące kości i dość szybkie agresywne akordy. A z drugiej strony psychodeliczne gitarowe pasaże i dziwaczne melodie. Na uwagę zasługuje fakt posiadania dobrych i rozbudowanych aranżacji perkusyjnych, gdyż utrzymanie rytmiki takiego miszmaszu jest nie lada wyzwaniem. Tym bardziej jeśli tematy przeplatają się nieoczekiwanie i są zaskakujące.

Ku określeniu (be)witching metal skłaniają bez wątpienia dziwaczne manieryzmy wokalne Eli. Wokalistka w znacznej mierze śpiewa dość psychodelicznie i mrocznie, czasem celowo infantylnie. Czysto ale jakby na haju, jakby w jakimś mistycznym transie. Przynajmniej tak odbieram ten sposób frazowania urozmaicany pełnymi furii blackowymi wrzaskami (jak w "Devil's Snare"), a nawet folkowymi zaśpiewami ("Forget Me Not").

Narbo Dacal to kolejny zespół, który dowodzi temu, że muzyka metalowa nie stoi w miejscu. Ani tym bardziej nie uwstecznia się, a stale ewoluuje i staje się częściej eklektyczna. Owszem ortodoksi będą kręcić nosem i poddawać negatywnej krytyce, ale młodsze pokolenia są już bardziej otwarte na rożne innowacje muzyczne. Chociaż już w latach 90. w polskim podziemiu były kapele z kobietami na wokalach, które wnosiły wówczas coś nowego swoim czystym śpiewem w kategorii ówczesnego doom metalu. Chociażby niedoceniony Stonehenge, czy Graviora Manent (potem zwany Undish).
