..::OPIS::.. Drugi album amerykańskiego zespołu grającego techniczny i progresywny death metal inspirowany przez GORGUTS, ATHEIST, DEMILICH. "ZEALOTRY - The Last Witness CD" to prawdziwa gratka dla miłośników death metalu. To prawdziwe dzieło sztuki, które wzbudza respekt nawet wśród najwybredniejszych fanów gatunku. Album trwa niemal 54 minuty i to aż 54 minuty mistrzowsko zagranej muzyki. 'The Last Witness' presents almost 54 mins of material hitting on all fronts with a progressive, yet schooled brand of death metal mastery, The album is carved from the same flesh as some of the genre's most important releases. Zealotry is a band that walks its own path, one that's paved by a desire to push death metal to new levels, while staying true to the genre's traditional elements. "The Last Witness" brings to life a series of massive and unparalleled musical movements dense and complex enough to require repeated listens. Lyrically, the album tells the story of humanity's end, as imagined by Arthur C. Clarke (among others). It speaks of our species' forced ascension and assimilation, compelled by the unseen, unknowable mind that tends to the cosmic clockwork and has decided the fates of countless other races. It is also about choices, mistakes and their consequences. Lavadome is proud to present such irreversible art which stands out above the norm instead of following it in hopes there are still ears out here, thirsty to listen on repeat and slowly uncovering the mesmerizing scales of the nature presented by The Last Witness. The topic of progression in metal is a controversial one, doubly so in a time when it is as at once digging into its past and looking into a future. The question of what constitutes progression is a controversial one where you will only get quasi answers at best and even more questions branching out of them. Is it merely novelty; a fresh layer of paint on old rusted gears, giving us a temporary sense of awe before familiarity and boredom sets in again? The combination of a distinct style onto a normal one; the ordinary fused with the extraordinary, a showpiece for eclecticism at the cost of foundation-level integrity? Simply improving the technical skill involved; raising the bar for membership, yet changing little else? Personally, I believe that true progression, development, evolution or whathaveyou comes not from merely unusual influences or quantitative knowledge of technique, but rather a distinct perspective – one that can be composed of pieces that may be staples yet arranged and executed in a form that makes them something else in their entirety. Where the new old school movement is caught between hollow worship and genuine attempts to re-interpret its origins, the brutal-technical modernists are busy wallowing in their own short-sighted excess, and the dissonant movement has become rather comfortable in its increasingly less alien tonalities, there have been those who stand apart from the three axes of death metal. Ghoulgotha, Blood Incantation, Kerasphorus, Pavor, Morbius, The Chasm, Diskord, Axis of Advance, Mitochondrion, and Boston’s Zealotry represent a movement that at once dwells on the fringes of death metal yet viciously expands that desolate frontier. While Zealotry are far from the first or the most well known of these, they are arguably the best example of a band that encapsulates not just the genre’s present but it’s rich, storied history. Taking inspiration from the genre’s 30+ year history, Zealotry’s ideas will not be unheard of to genre veterans yet it is how they have warped and adapted them for their own esoteric purposes and rendering it far from comfortingly familiar. Compared to the gradually unfolding cycles of riffing that comprised their excellent 2013 debut, The Charnel Expanse, The Last Witness stands out immediately with the raw density of its layered instrumentation. While their technical capacities were far from lacking, now they have stolen the spotlight as the talents of all four musicians coalesce into a tapestry of writhing rhythms and coiling expanses of fluctuating tonalities. Make no mistake, Zealotry is not a band that has forgotten about the importance of well crafted riffage but how they ambiguously entwine consonance and dissonance leaves very little that would be considered even remotely catchy or immediately gut-wrenching as much as ominous and otherworldly. The meat of the songs revolves around the deadly duo of guitarists Roman Temin and Chthe’ilist cult leader Philippe Tougas whirling complex counterpoint patterns into luminous textures from which they draw out a variety of depth an elaboration upon central ideas and themes. A highly active drum performance from Inhumatus’ Alex Zalatan forms an undulating turbulent framework in which they can function, pulling out a variety of sharply timed accents and fills, and shadowing the swell and churn of the rhythm and yet not coming off as remotely showboating. While the bass was muffled on the last album, here Aodán Collins is equally prominent as both guitarists, their every movement answered by stalking, chunking basslines that flesh out the lower end and veer into additional layers of harmony and contrast, furthering the album’s unsettlingly alien mood. All of this makes the album come off as more jazz-fusion esque than its predecessor yet not necessarily just by their rigorous playing which betrays an impressive range of influences (Allan Holdsworth, Timeghoul, Univers Zero, Adramelech, The Chasm, Gorguts, Immolation, Alf Svensson era At The Gates, Ved Buens Ende, Virus, Anata, Gorguts and numerous others). As previously stated, the emphasis on layered instrumentation is much stronger than on the debut and it affects how the composition of the songs as well. These eight tracks cycle through these intricate textural layers, orbiting around one another to build up familiarity and ambience, saving up momentum generated to surge through powerful diversions, often using solos to great effect as they capitalize on expectation and frenetic execution in a mixture of Roman’s fusion ambivalence and Phil’s incendiary shredding. The riffing that ensues adds a more direct narrative approach to resolve prior strains of flurried delivery. It is in these moments the band wisely streamlines their delivery to bring the numerous hydra-like threads of development to their conclusion. Longer phrases slither in, creeping like hunting centipedes, stretching out to grasp at and fulfill the development of the underlying threads woven beneath the watery line between melody and discordance. It sounds fairly complex and the actual playing will likely take repeated listening to follow. Structurally however this is fairly concise and contained if compared to groups like Obliteration and The Chasm. Repetition is used notably but rather than being an artistic crutch, it works quite well to help re-contextualize itself in the wake of a song’s progression and provide closure where there might otherwise be confusion and amorphousness. I’ve described Zealotry elsewhere as being a kind of convergence point for various threads of death metal modern, classic, and dissonant in nature but the more I listen, the more there’s the sneaking suspicion this generalization works increasingly less. On both levels of its mystifying aesthetic and underlying content, The Last Witness is a masterwork of death metal and a testament to the possibilities still ripe for exploration in the genre. It’s a rare fusion of high-tech craftsmanship, morbidly esoteric science fiction lyricism, and meticulously crafted compositions that doesn’t come around very often. At the same time, in spite of its initial inaccessibility, there’s a lot it offers to a wide variety of extreme metal fans across the spectrum, assuming they can tolerate just how much it lets loose upon the listener right from its opening moments. I doubt Zealotry will come to be the model upon which future iterations of death metal oddballs will base themselves on (and for the better) yet they’re emblematic of the changing attitudes and mindsets within the genre. Not just concerning progression/evolution but also what lies at the heart of death metal; it multifaceted nature that continues to voice itself in unexpected ways that challenge conventional notions of what does and doesn’t constitute moving forward amongst the genre’s numerous factions. Having produced two albums amongst the elite of recent times, the future remains promising for Boston’s finest and the fractured movement of which they form the spearhead. ..::OPIS::.. After releasing Staražytnaje licha demo last year, Belarusian black/death metallers Ljosazabojstwa are back with a massive new EP Sychodžańnie, set for release on June 30 via Hellthrasher Productions (CD/digital). With Sychodžańnie, LSZB take their brand of ancient thrashing black death to a whole new level, balancing barbaric riffage with mysterious interludes and spoken word samples that make for a unique experience. Prepare yourself for a 32-minute descent to the bottomless pit.. "At six tracks in thirty two minutes, LSZB’s follow-up EP, Sychodžańnie, is a mind-rattling hellride through the darklands of humanity’s subconscious. One minute you’re headbanging, rejoicing in malicious riffs and howls of ancient rancor; the next you’re cowering in deeply-embedded, instinctual fear beneath the wailing sirens of doom." - DECIBEL MAGAZINE "As good as Staražytnaje licha was, Sychodžańnie is better. While that first demo was a multifaceted affair, there are even more facets on this new gem, and the band have pushed the dynamism of their compositions to even greater heights. The result is a half hour of music that keeps the listener tightly bound in the chains of its attraction." - NO CLEAN SINGING The occult horror of a certain type of black/death generally somewhat influenced by or otherwise in line with Mortuary Drape is one of my favorite things, and Ljosazabojstwa clearly agree, given the content on Sychodžańnie and on the demo that came before it. From the first bits of atmosphere created by a haunting organ introduction through the very last chords, everything about this EP is massive; monolithic doom-driven rhythms do combat with the vocalist’s echoing snarl, subtle keyboards occasionally provide an extra layer, and the whole package is complimented by the immense production that ties the entire package together. Ominous interludes, sometimes mid-track, build tension, and whenever appropriate buildup has been reached, well-timed eruptions launch trudging doom into ripping hellfire before spiraling back to a horrifying crawl. Though I mentioned Mortuary Drape as a point of comparison (and a clear influence), Ljosazabojstwa are by no means a clone of anyone; chaotic tremolo melodies, pretty leads, fiery death metal, and blazing thrash merge seamlessly to form a package that fits the mood that Mortuary Drape, Necros Christos, or similar bands put me into without feeling like a pointless ripoff at any point. Though sometimes the non-metal interruptions get a bit much for me, the overall package is startlingly strong, and a welcome change of pace from the onslaught of more straightforward death metal releases that I’ve been hearing from this year so far; as a point to their credit, the interludes are well written (or well picked, for the samples), and my general distaste for lengthy and frequent interludes may well be more of a problem for me than the interludes themselves. Ljosazabojstwa fundamentally call for a return to the occult, and I welcome it with open arms. Sychodžańnie is catchy, memorable, and excellently performed, with more than enough variety and strength of both songwriting and pacing to keep the EP interesting from listen to listen. Most great EP’s leave me wanting more from the band, and as much as I’m looking forward to hearing Ljosazabojstwa’s first full length, this is a rare EP powerful enough to merit the repeat listens and reflection to occupy me until whenever the band feels that another release is necessary. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI
..::OPIS::.. Zremasterowana edycja wydanego w 1975 roku, rewelacyjnego debiutu amerykańskiej progresywnej formacji. Superbly crafted 70's mellotron/moog laden progressive rock gem with great artistic expressionism and full instrumental interplay. "Night On Bald Mountain" was produced by KING CRIMSON's Ian McDonald who also contributes some sax on the album. Musicianship on this album is simply awesome with some of the most scrumptious interplay you have ever heard. Opening number 'Les Cathedrales' is absolutely in the same brilliance as early GENESIS with the most captivating and delicate of melodies. This five member band incorporate some wonderful musical instrumentation including xylophone, glockenspiel, chineese bell tree, gong, finger cymbals, tubular bells, triangle, hammond organ, pipe organ, celeste, mellotron, moog , Taurus pedals, and everyone's favourite... electronic devices. Vocals are quite well done with some great lyrics as well. "Night On Bald Mountain" contains 2 epic tracks and a couple of shorter but well pieced tracks. For those lucky enough to have snagged a copy of Setticlavio Record's (Italy) re-released CD pressing can also enjoy their second album as well... 7 extra bonus tracks from the album titled "Two Too" (1976)... although it is always nice to have this bonus material is ranks much lower IMHO than "Night On Bald Mountain" which is a great album and in my opinion an essential piece of Prog Land history ! Loserboy Another one of those little-known American prog rock bands, I noticed this country's prog rock scene consisted of very few bands that actually made it big, only KANSAS did, because they included uniquely American elements in their European-influenced prog sound. Most of the other bands were unlucky, only having small, local or regional labels back them up (good examples go to acts like CATHEDRAL or BABYLON) or they had to privately issue the album themselves. There were a few that were lucky to get on major labels, giving them at least a small chance for national exposure like STARCASTLE (Epic Records), HAPPY THE MAN (Arista) or ETHOS (Capitol), but of course, you know how American radio was to prog in the second half of the '70s (not exactly the most friendly, and they'd prefer the most AOR stuff from KANSAS). FIREBALLET at least had the decency to record for Passport Records, a small label that at least was able to distribute nationwide, and had quite a few great prog acts on its roster (ARTHUR BROWN'S KINGDOM COME, CAPABILITY BROWN, NEKTAR, SYNERGY, BRAND X, etc.). As for the rule of American prog (with a few exceptions, of course), most of these bands were either from the Midwest or the East Coast, and FIREBALLET was no exception, they hailed from New Jersey, which was also the home to Passport Records. "A Night On Bald Mountain" was their debut, and best known for being produced by Ian McDonald, who was previously a member of KING CRIMSON, and later a member of the multi-platinum selling AOR act FOREIGNER (a band that I don't need to explain to those who have even the slightest knowledge in FM rock). The band consisted of drummer Jim Cuomo, keyboardist Bryan Howe, guitarist Ryche Chlanda, keyboardist Frank Petto, and bassist Martyn Biglin, all credited to vocal duties aside from the bassist, and Cuomo was the guy responsible for the lead vocals. His vocals tended to be on the dramatic side, and he had to try to imitate a European accent. To me, I thought the album sounded like GENESIS or YES playing the Mussorgsky and Debussy songbook. In fact the title track, of course, is the band doing a version of Mussorgsky's famous work, but they also included some Debussy in there too. I kept hearing how this album is a Mellotron masterpiece. Don't buy in to that, the Mellotron is used nowhere as many claim, I mostly hear it on the short "Atmospheres", that's it, really. I more hear the RMI electric piano/harpsichord, ARP 2600, and Hammond organ. "Les Cathedrales" find the band borring a theme from George Martin's "Theme One" (the one VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR covered as a single they released in 1972, and included on the American LP of "Pawn Hearts"). "Centurion (Tales of the Fireball Kids)" is a prime example of Jim Cuomo being dramatic in his vocals. Somewhere you hear a theme from Holst's "The Planets". Of course the band went and tackled on Mussorgsky's famous work, stretching around 18 minutes, the title track is a prog version of that work, but near the end, the band seemed to abandoned rock and put emphasis on pipe organ and more classical structures. Around this time, Passport Records started promoting the Sansui QS quad-stereo unit (you can see this promo also on Synergy's Electronic Realizations For Rock Orchestra), from my understanding you can only get quad stereo from these titles if you owned a Sansui quad (and also my understanding was that reel-to-reels were better at quad than LPs). Unfortunately the only way you can get this on CD is through a Brazilian label called Rock Symphony which they also paired their second album Two, Too (which is usually regarded as not so good as their debut, but I hadn't heard that album). Passport Records went belly-up around 1988, making many titles difficult to get reissued if they weren't on other labels (BRAND X was on Charisma in the UK and NEKTAR was on BELLAPHON in Germany, so that's why those titles ended up on CD reissues). To me, I think "A Night on Bald Mountain" is a decent enough prog album, but I wouldn't call it essential. I think my problem is I preferred the band when the classical influences aren't as so obvious. Proghead ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Les Cathèdrales 10:18 2. Centurion (Tales Of Fireball Kids) 4:47 3. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI
..::OPIS::.. Zremasterowana i gustownie wydana edycja doskonałego, drugiego albumu z 1970 roku - dodatkowo z inną, singlową wersją 'Circles'! Najprościej umiejscowić tę muzykę pomiędzy twórczością Wishbone Ash, Procol Harum i Gnidrolog (z okresu LP 'Lady Lake'), a Genesis z okresu 'Trespass'. Choćby jak ten, otwierający całość bardzo chwytliwy, utrzymany nieco w stylu The Moody Blues „Castle In The Sky” pochodzący z repertuaru szkockiej grupy Simon Dupree And The Big Sound, czy też następny – atmosferyczny i zmienny „Broken Hours”. Mój podziw i zachwyt budzą także kolejne kawałki – a to utrzymany w szybkim klimacie „Heart Without A Home” z pulsującym basem i fajną solówką gitarową, a to balladowy, przypominający stylem amerykański zespół Gary Puckett And The Union Gap „Time Is Passing”, czy pełen wdzięku, rytmiczny „November”. Wypełniały ją dwie kapitalne, rozbudowane kompozycje: siedmiominutowy „Circles” i trwający dwanaście minut „Colour Questions”. Obie pełne intensywnych, głównie gitarowych improwizacji i ciekawych rozwiązań rytmicznych. W pierwszej czuć tę specyficzną psychodeliczną atmosferę tkaną poprzez ciągłe zmiany tempa i melodii, z kapitalnie grającą ciężką, „ołowianą” gitarą i ukrytymi gdzieś w tle, na dalszym planie drobnymi muzycznymi smaczkami. You’ll Never Know Me/Realease”. Zibi ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Castles In The Sky 2. Broken Hours 3. Heart Without A Home 4. Time Is Passing 5. Circles 6. November 7. Colours Questions 8. You'll Never Know Me / Release Bonus Track: 9. Circles (Single Version, A-side 1970) ..::OBSADA::.. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI
..::OPIS::.. Reedycja debiutu VECTOM oryginalnie wydanego w 1985 roku. 35 minut old school speed metalu. Limitowane do 500 sztuk wydanie slipcase CD z plakatem. In the deep underground metal scene of Germany were hidden many great bands that no one knew of, especially outside the European territory. This was the case with the German speed metal band Vectom. Very little information is known about their background as well as the members of the band. They basically appeared in 1983, released two full-length records and then spit-up apparently in 1993. This is kind of unfortunate because they always lived in the obscurity and didn't benefit from great label support and promotion. Though, the amount of similar bands was absurd at this point, the band didn't innovate enough musically speaking. However, they still managed to release some material, despite dealing with those problems. What we have here is the first album of Vectom titled "Speed Revolution". Some of you might tell yourself by looking at the cover art: "What the fuck is that?". Well this is understandable because no one really knows, but most people think that its some evil KKK guys dressed in black. I think these guys really tried to be offensive in their music, especially for a 1985 album, but this is what the shit was back then. Even though there are 10 songs on the record, it still only clocks at 35 minutes, and nearly all tracks average the 3 minutes of length. It tells a bit about the musical approach the band has taken. The album begins with the self-titled track of the album, "Speed Revolution", with a creepy introduction until a guitar riff is unleashed accompanied by violent drumming blasts, which I really liked the sound. The chorus is pretty cool also, going simply, but efficiently by "Revolution!", it kind of feature the typical speed metal song structure. We also have the following "In Nomine Satanas" that doesn't bring much more to the table, but very intense drumming performance, and some sort of guitar solos, to say the least. I have a love/hate opinion about the third track "Damned Love" though, the main riff is killer, but the chorus doesn't sound that good for me at least, but still a good song whatsoever. The most memorable songs are definitely "Black Viper", "Satan's Colour" and "Open the Coffin" if you ask me. All three of these songs have a catchy as hell chorus, interesting melodic passages and nice solos as well as some unique vocals of Christian Bucher. He had a pretty nice voice tone and it fitted perfectly in this kind of raw speed metal with the semi-growling and high-pitched screams at times. One thing for sure, Vectom sounds exactly how German speed and thrash metal of the 80s is known for, their music can most likely be compared to other German bands such as Carrion, Necronomicon or Angel Dust. They also followed the evil and occult train of the mid-80s by adopting the satanic worship lyrics. However, they quickly changed their subjects in their second record and got better with their instruments too. Even though it's their first album, they still were talented musicians, they just didn't have the experience ... But one thing for sure, they had the will and ferocity. The "Speed Revolution" album production quality is really primitive, but still nice to listen too because we can actually hear all the instruments in the mix properly, the bass is especially interesting there, it will surely appeal to the people that are used to this kind of old school sound. Overall, there's nothing really "original", but it doesn't mean that it's not great because in fact, this is a solid record and worthy of being among the great releases of German speed and thrash metal of the mid-80s. Maybe it's not as memorable or as good as the Sodom, Destruction and Kreator first records, but it definitely has it charm. I obviously recommend giving this album a chance, I am pretty sure that it can make some great headbanging moments, especially for fans of 80s old school metal that doesn't care about the sound quality, even if it's not bad in that particular case, for me at least. ..::OPIS::.. Zawiera albumy „Oi! Oj! Music”, „Fatal Blow”, „We Can Do Everything” i „Music For Hooligans” oraz single „Never Say Die”, „Victims”, „Anti Fascist Oi!”, „Fuck Fascism”, „Strength In Unity” , „Hałas”, „Powstanie”, „Przemoc w piłce nożnej” i „Przesłanie 2 pokoleń 1”. Broszura zawiera szczegółowe notatki, zdjęcia każdego wydawnictwa i przegląd autorstwa wokalisty Roddy’ego Moreno. 4CD clam shell box set containing the 113 studio tracks recorded by Welsh Oi! legends The Oppressed between 1981 and 2018.
