M.I.A. (Mathangi „Maya” Arulpragasam) to brytyjska artystka, raperka, wokalistka i producentka pochodzenia tamilsko-sri-lankijskiego, urodzona w 1975 roku w Londyn. Zanim rozpoczęła karierę muzyczną, zajmowała się sztuką wizualną i filmem, co silnie wpłynęło na jej późniejszą twórczość.
Przełomem był debiutancki album Arular (2005), który połączył elektronikę, hip-hop, dancehall i muzykę klubową z politycznymi, często zaangażowanymi tekstami. Kolejny album Kala (2007) ugruntował jej międzynarodową pozycję dzięki takim utworom jak „Paper Planes”, który stał się globalnym hitem.
