Morta Skuld formed in Milwaukee in 1990, going on to release three albums on Peaceville Records (initially via legendary sub-label Deaf Records) in the early-mid 90's, with the band’s debut - the now classic Dying Remains - seeing its release in 1993. Reuniting once more with Peaceville Records, 2017 saw the comeback album from the reinvigorated US death metal maestros, with their first full-length release since the Surface album in 1997.

Wounds Deeper than Time presents Morta Skuld’s finely honed mix of power and brutality with a foot firmly planted in the old school. A pummelling union of twisted melody and crushing riffs, Wounds Deeper than Time was recorded mixed and mastered at Mercenary studios by Scott Creekmore (Putrid Pile, Broken Hope, No Zodiac, Waco Jesus, Bloodline, Lividity) & produced by the band themselves. Cover art comes courtesy of Patrick Kachellek, who created the cover for the band’s comeback EP, Serving Two Masters in 2014. Joining longstanding member and founder David Gregor (Guitar/vocals) is Scott Willecke (Guitar), AJ Lewandowski (bass) & Eric House (drums).

Finally coming back into the fold, Wisconsin death metallers Morta Skuld have been toiling away in the underground ever since the beginning of their career and especially once they reformed several years back for a nice reunion that’s still on-going. With a new lineup with second guitarist Scott Willecke and bassist AJ joining the fold, the groups’ first post-comeback and fourth full-length overall effort was released February 17, 2017 on Peaceville Records.

Despite the long layoff, it’s quite clear the band hasn’t lost their step at all as there’s plenty of life left for the group to explore based on this one. Pumping out such classic-sounding material filled with plenty of charging mid-tempo riffing and pummeling rhythms that keeps the material tight, intense and straightforward much in the same way that they usually offered in the past, making for a slew of crunchy, highly-impressive efforts. Due to the chaotic nature of these efforts, there’s plenty to work with here once this manages to get the majority of the albums’ running time with these rhythms, so when it changes over into it’s more mid-tempo elements there’s a natural balance between the ravenous, crunchy patterns and more mid-tempo, straightforward work that still slogs through the same general intensity and savageness which is what makes for the more cohesive and engaging type of work throughout here. As this is all quite common and expected with the band, that they’re able to reproduce this type of influence and clarity in this day and age makes for quite an impactful time here as this one keeps their old-school tone intact here with a great deal of their changing tones that was quite apparent throughout their catalog. While that’s all good, there’s a decidedly more modern feel and tone in the production that sounds way too clean and processed for such an old-school vibe from the arrangements of the tracks, and that does stick out throughout here quite apparently rather than the murky old-school feel. Still, that’s the only thing really wrong here.

Filled with a lot of great moments and a few minor flaws with the more modernized sound, the fact remains that there’s quite a lot of highly-enjoyable work to be found here as the guys come back into the fold with a dynamic effort that will greatly please fans of their past work or old-school death in general.

Zespół, jak w procesie alchemicznym, coraz bardziej uszlachetnia swoją twórczość i destyluje z każdą płytą coraz bardziej wyrafinowaną muzykę i teksty.
'Sieć Indry' jest transową podróżą po nowych lądach. To znakomicie zagrana, zaśpiewana i zrealizowana płyta, która wchodzi głęboko pod skórę, a teksty Grzegorza Kaźmierczaka znów zaskakują minimalizmem i intensywnością.


Piotr Bratkowski po latach napisał o zespole tak: 'koncert Variete (...) w 1985 roku, zrobił na mnie największe wrażenie z wszystkiego, co kiedykolwiek w Jarocinie usłyszałem'.
Z kolei Rafał Księżyk nazwał Variete 'ulubionym zespołem polskiej inteligencji'.

Szybki i melodyjny z nutą 'punka', zachowujący jednocześnie fundamentalne cechy Black Metalu.

Raw black to nigdy nie była moja wymarzona dziedzina sztuki. Z drugiej jednak strony black ze Skandynawii (a dokładniej z Finlandii) to podstawa mojej egzystencji. Postanowiłem się więc zmierzyć z najnowszym dziełem duetu Ondfødt, którego album wyszedł nakładem znanej mi dobrze Immortal Frost Productions.

Dödsrikets Kallelse to drugi pełnowymiarowy krążek kapeli i podobnie jak pierwszy, Hexkonst (wydany w 2014 roku również nakładem Immortal Frost Productions), stanowi nieco ponad półgodzinny zestaw szybkich dwu lub trzyminutowych szotów. I pod tym względem etykietka raw black należy się Ondfødtowi bezsprzecznie.

Inaczej jest jednak, gdy zaczniemy przyglądać się z bliska poszczególnym numerom. Po pierwsze, pomimo oczywistej surowości w dźwiękach i klasyki w konstrukcjach poszczególnych utworów, nie mamy tu do czynienia z tą bezmyślną nawalanką, surową i brudną, która charakteryzuje surowe blackowe kompozycje. Na Dödsrikets Kallelse każdy z dziewięciu utworów ma klarowną linię melodyczną, poukładane riffy i spójne aranże. Do tego mamy klimatyczne wstawki i wprowadzenia w niektóre kawałki (przedostatni Dödens Dröm to coś na kształt ballady, która zaczyna się długim akustycznym wstępem i kończy równie klimatycznie), co czyni płytę po prostu świetną i różnorodną. Jeśli napomknąłem już o momentach spokojnych i lirycznych, to muszę jeszcze wspomnieć o tym, co na Dödsrikets Kallelse przeważa. A są to oczywiście szybkie partie perkusyjne, liczne blasty i pasaże, a także umiarkowanie prędkie partie gitarowe. To zresztą dzięki gitarom album zyskuje swój niepowtarzalny klimat i ciekawe w odbiorze sekwencje riffów. Wokal jest klasyczny w barwie i w dodatku nie wybija się jakoś w znaczący sposób przed partie instrumentalne.

Z tłumu wyróżnia się oczywiście utwór ostatni, cover również blackowego fińskiego Hämysa. Niestety przez swoją umiarkowanie skomplikowaną konstrukcję i nieco przerysowany wokal (nie mówiąc już o chórkach w drugiej części kawałka) przypadł mi on do gustu najmniej.

Najnowsza płyta Ondfødt to kawał dobrej muzyki – różnorodnego, ciekawego, klasycznego black metalu, który chyba nie może się nie spodobać. Co prawda Immortal Frost Productions jak zwykle podkreśla ilość egzemplarzy tego wydawnictwa (1000 sztuk w tym przypadku), to nie musicie się spieszyć, starczy dla wszystkich. Niemniej ja uważam, że ten krążek trzeba mieć.

Occasionally, there is something to be said for an album that 'just gets it right', regardless of any lack of innovation, subtlety or nuance that one might often associate with the top shelf recordings which define and shape their genres. For 2019, Finland's Ondfødt has crafted one such effort which succeeds entirely on its sheer power and production, a record that, played at high volumes, seems like it's just gotten everything right that it wanted to, and is thus a pleasure to listen to. One of those rarities I can sit through a number of times, not really pick out any spectacular riffs or highly catchy melodies, and still come away from thinking I've just had my soul crushed in a memorable fashion. Not a sound on Dödsrikets kallelse sounds like it belongs in a post-1996 black metal universe, and yet it's one of the better albums in this style I've heard in the last couple months.

Now, I don't wish to infer that, by their adherence to very traditional riffing, that this album lacks for dynamics, because it shifts pretty evenly between mid-tempo, late 80s Bathory bravado, faster breaks and a few atmospheric flourishes with acoustic guitars or sublime melodic passages that give this whole affair a very complete, rounded polish. The parallels to other Scandinavian masters such as Darkthrone and Immortal exist, to the point that Ondfødt at no point even flirts with originality, but when you hear the bold, bruising rhythms they're churning out, you're easily swept away to the aesthetic imagery that categorizes such black metal: cruel hearts and cold wastes. This isn't an album with a lot of evil note progressions, or one that uses the smokescreen of rawness to masque its lack of competence and devotion...Dödsrikets kallelse sounds enormous, whether its battering you with a wall of chords that sound like weaponized glaciers rolling around on tank treads, or picking up the pace for a blasted windswept melody. Drummer/vocalist hammers away like a winter battalion chopping wood for its campfires, while his huge rasp hovers just above the rhythm guitars, raving over the musical blizard with just the right depth and sustain.

It's the sort of album where, even when you know where the guitar line is going the first time, you want to take the journey anyways. They help break up the steadier riffing with some thunderous breaks, where the chords are reduced to just bludgeons over the beats, reminiscent of fellow Finns like Barathrum, Ajattara or Horna, so in summary they seem to channel influences from all over Northern Europe. The aforementioned atmospheric parts, like the ritualistic intro to "Den sista färden" or the glistening, sad acoustics that permeate instrumental "Dödens dröm", are perfectly placed pauses in the action that help amplify the emotional resonance of the whole disc. It's one that rewards you for sitting through the beginning, middle, and end, even if the latter is a cover of another obscure Finnish act known as Hämys using a cluster of gang vocal rasps. At around 35 minutes, this album never even comes close to wearing out it welcome, there isn't a riff on it which lasts longer than it needs to and the shorter duration is a good fit to the simplicity and straightforwardness. Just a great sophomore effort, and a fine fit for this time of year.

Szybki i melodyjny z nutą 'punka', zachowujący jednocześnie fundamentalne cechy Black Metalu.

Raw black to nigdy nie była moja wymarzona dziedzina sztuki. Z drugiej jednak strony black ze Skandynawii (a dokładniej z Finlandii) to podstawa mojej egzystencji. Postanowiłem się więc zmierzyć z najnowszym dziełem duetu Ondfødt, którego album wyszedł nakładem znanej mi dobrze Immortal Frost Productions.

Dödsrikets Kallelse to drugi pełnowymiarowy krążek kapeli i podobnie jak pierwszy, Hexkonst (wydany w 2014 roku również nakładem Immortal Frost Productions), stanowi nieco ponad półgodzinny zestaw szybkich dwu lub trzyminutowych szotów. I pod tym względem etykietka raw black należy się Ondfødtowi bezsprzecznie.

Inaczej jest jednak, gdy zaczniemy przyglądać się z bliska poszczególnym numerom. Po pierwsze, pomimo oczywistej surowości w dźwiękach i klasyki w konstrukcjach poszczególnych utworów, nie mamy tu do czynienia z tą bezmyślną nawalanką, surową i brudną, która charakteryzuje surowe blackowe kompozycje. Na Dödsrikets Kallelse każdy z dziewięciu utworów ma klarowną linię melodyczną, poukładane riffy i spójne aranże. Do tego mamy klimatyczne wstawki i wprowadzenia w niektóre kawałki (przedostatni Dödens Dröm to coś na kształt ballady, która zaczyna się długim akustycznym wstępem i kończy równie klimatycznie), co czyni płytę po prostu świetną i różnorodną. Jeśli napomknąłem już o momentach spokojnych i lirycznych, to muszę jeszcze wspomnieć o tym, co na Dödsrikets Kallelse przeważa. A są to oczywiście szybkie partie perkusyjne, liczne blasty i pasaże, a także umiarkowanie prędkie partie gitarowe. To zresztą dzięki gitarom album zyskuje swój niepowtarzalny klimat i ciekawe w odbiorze sekwencje riffów. Wokal jest klasyczny w barwie i w dodatku nie wybija się jakoś w znaczący sposób przed partie instrumentalne.

Z tłumu wyróżnia się oczywiście utwór ostatni, cover również blackowego fińskiego Hämysa. Niestety przez swoją umiarkowanie skomplikowaną konstrukcję i nieco przerysowany wokal (nie mówiąc już o chórkach w drugiej części kawałka) przypadł mi on do gustu najmniej.

Najnowsza płyta Ondfødt to kawał dobrej muzyki – różnorodnego, ciekawego, klasycznego black metalu, który chyba nie może się nie spodobać. Co prawda Immortal Frost Productions jak zwykle podkreśla ilość egzemplarzy tego wydawnictwa (1000 sztuk w tym przypadku), to nie musicie się spieszyć, starczy dla wszystkich. Niemniej ja uważam, że ten krążek trzeba mieć.

For 2019, Finland's Ondfødt has crafted one such effort which succeeds entirely on its sheer power and production, a record that, played at high volumes, seems like it's just gotten everything right that it wanted to, and is thus a pleasure to listen to. One of those rarities I can sit through a number of times, not really pick out any spectacular riffs or highly catchy melodies, and still come away from thinking I've just had my soul crushed in a memorable fashion. Not a sound on Dödsrikets kallelse sounds like it belongs in a post-1996 black metal universe, and yet it's one of the better albums in this style I've heard in the last couple months.

Now, I don't wish to infer that, by their adherence to very traditional riffing, that this album lacks for dynamics, because it shifts pretty evenly between mid-tempo, late 80s Bathory bravado, faster breaks and a few atmospheric flourishes with acoustic guitars or sublime melodic passages that give this whole affair a very complete, rounded polish. The parallels to other Scandinavian masters such as Darkthrone and Immortal exist, to the point that Ondfødt at no point even flirts with originality, but when you hear the bold, bruising rhythms they're churning out, you're easily swept away to the aesthetic imagery that categorizes such black metal: cruel hearts and cold wastes. This isn't an album with a lot of evil note progressions, or one that uses the smokescreen of rawness to masque its lack of competence and devotion...Dödsrikets kallelse sounds enormous, whether its battering you with a wall of chords that sound like weaponized glaciers rolling around on tank treads, or picking up the pace for a blasted windswept melody. Drummer/vocalist hammers away like a winter battalion chopping wood for its campfires, while his huge rasp hovers just above the rhythm guitars, raving over the musical blizard with just the right depth and sustain.

It's the sort of album where, even when you know where the guitar line is going the first time, you want to take the journey anyways. They help break up the steadier riffing with some thunderous breaks, where the chords are reduced to just bludgeons over the beats, reminiscent of fellow Finns like Barathrum, Ajattara or Horna, so in summary they seem to channel influences from all over Northern Europe. The aforementioned atmospheric parts, like the ritualistic intro to "Den sista färden" or the glistening, sad acoustics that permeate instrumental "Dödens dröm", are perfectly placed pauses in the action that help amplify the emotional resonance of the whole disc. It's one that rewards you for sitting through the beginning, middle, and end, even if the latter is a cover of another obscure Finnish act known as Hämys using a cluster of gang vocal rasps. At around 35 minutes, this album never even comes close to wearing out it welcome, there isn't a riff on it which lasts longer than it needs to and the shorter duration is a good fit to the simplicity and straightforwardness. Just a great sophomore effort, and a fine fit for this time of year.

ADMINISTRATORR ELECTRO to trio powołane do życia w 2013 r. przez Bartosza 'Administratorra' Marmola, który poza realizowaniem się w macierzystej formacji Administratorr, oraz kontynuowaną współpracą z Lesławem (Komety) przy projekcie 'Piosenki o Warszawie vol. 1 i vol. 2', poszukuje wciąż nowych brzmień i form prezentacji własnej twórczości.
Wynikiem tych poszukiwań jest właśnie ADMINISTRATORR ELECTRO, który tworzą Bartosz Marmol (gitara, wokal, klawisze) i Paweł Kowalski (bass, klawisze, chórki).

Po dwóch latach od debiutu ADMINISTRATORR ELECTRO przygotował kolejną muzyczną podróż w czasie, która tym razem jest bardziej gorzka niż sentymentalna, bardziej elektroniczna niż rockowa i bardziej osobista niż biograficzna. Zapowiedzią i przedsmakiem tej podróży jest utwór 'Fan', który pojawił się w rozgłośniach radiowych już w czerwcu 2016 r.
Muzycznie płyta jest bardziej elektroniczna, nawiązująca do lat osiemdziesiątych. W nagraniach użyto syntezatorów rodem z lat osiemdziesiątych przez co elektronika jest bardziej selektywna, a ilość brzmień mniejsza. Po pierwsze elektronika ale na płycie również usłyszymy gitary w stylu alternatywnego rocka, niekonwencjonalne perkusjonalia (butelki, rożnego rodzaju blachy i inne materiały z odzysku), które wzbogaciły gamę brzmień.

Administratorr Electro doczekał się drugiej płyty, więc niczym dziwnym są porównania do debiutu, szczególnie że nowe dzieło formacji, zatytułowane Ziemowit, jest lepszym dziełem od płyty Sławnikowice – Zgorzelec 17:10 i to w każdym aspekcie.


Mózg projektu, czyli Bartosz Marmol, jawi mi się jako niezmordowany i bardzo wszechstronny twórca. Jakby nie patrzeć, Administratorr Electro to jeden z jego kilku zespołów. Tutaj Marmol spełnia się w graniu muzyki elektronicznej, bliższej popowi lat osiemdziesiątych. Jego pierwotny skład, czyli po prostu Administratorr, stawia na rockowe brzmienia, a do tego trzeba dodać jego dwie płyty, zatytułowane Piosenki o Warszawie, które stworzył wspólnie z Lesławem z Komet. Człowiek orkiestra, chciałoby się rzec, i co najważniejsze – utalentowany twórca, bo trzeba podkreślić, że płyty, które sygnuje on swoim imieniem i nazwiskiem, nigdy nie schodzą poniżej dobrego poziomu. Za ilością idzie również jakość, czego dobitnym dowodem jest płyta Ziemowit, która wręcz kipi pomysłami i świetnymi melodiami.

Umówmy się, że Administratorr Electro wcale nie planuje wyważyć drzwi tudzież dokonać przełomu w gatunku, który uprawia. Marmol sprawnie korzysta ze sprawdzonych klisz i patentów, umiejętnie je tym samym przetwarza, oczywiście wedle potrzeb. Zasadniczą zmianą w stosunku do debiutu jest to, że brzmienie jest mniej szorstkie, cieplejsze, pełne życia i pulsu, zarazem jednak aranże wydają bardziej oszczędne, a w muzyce jest więcej powietrza. Administratorr po prostu dojrzał albo po prostu odnalazł swoją ścieżkę rozwoju. Ziemowit jawi się jako album spójny, poukładany, nie przypomina się on już eksperymentu, a słuchając płyty Sławnikowice – Zgorzelec 17:10 trudno o inne odczucia. No i najważniejsze, co już zresztą podkreśliłem, Ziemowit to kopalnia niezłych przebojów, nie tyle co porywających do tańca, co na pewno dających się zanucić, a o to przecież w tym wszystkim chodzi, prawda?

Przeboje? Na pewno kąśliwy, mający ostry beat utwór Fan. Walczykowata, dosłownie wciągająca swoim niepokojącym klimatem La vagina de la muerte to też jeden z mocniejszych momentów Ziemowita. Potencjał do potańczenia ma w sobie również szybki Zbudujemy bazę. Ale Ziemowit to masa piosenek zachowanych bardziej w stonowanych barwach, które eksponują ważne, bardzo życiowe teksty napisane przez Administratorra. Dlatego pomimo mniejszej intensywności muzycznej, utwory takie jak Złoty pociąg czy oniryczny Sama się przytulaj mają olbrzymią siłę rażenia. W tych kawałkach liczy się atmosfera i budowanie odpowiedniego nastroju. Tak sobie to panowie ułożyli, że większość płyty stanowią delikatniejsze, wręcz oszczędne utwory – jest więc sporo przestrzeni na wokal i teksty.

Administratorr Electro na drugiej płycie okrzepł i dojrzał. Ziemowit to płyta znacznie bardziej przemyślana, dopracowana, momentami wręcz wypolerowana pod względem melodyjności, bo czy są to szybkie, czy wolne utwory, każdy ma w sobie charakterystyczną, zimną, nieco senną melodykę, którą ja osobiście kupuję.

Dwa lata po Sławnikowicach – Zgorzelcu 17:10 Bartosz Marmol znowu łączy siły z Pawłem Kowalskim, a duet dodatkowo wspomagają Marek Veith na perkusji oraz Magdalena i Robert Srzedniccy na klawiszach i przy samplach. W takim składzie otrzymujemy Ziemowita, drugą płytę projektu, kolejną Marmola (wcześniej dwie części Piosenek o Warszawie, które Bartosz nagrał ze swoim drugim zespołem – Administratorrem oraz Lesławem z Komet). I Administratorr Electro ponownie idzie w archaiczną elektronikę wymieszaną z indie rockiem. Elektronika? Klawisze, ejtisowo-najtisowe syntezatory okraszone chwytliwymi riffami i wpadającą w ucho perkusją. Teoretycznie same mocne rzeczy. Teoretycznie wszystko, czego potrzeba do stworzenia szlagierowego wydawnictwa. Teoretycznie.

Bo Ziemowit to też bardzo nierówna płyta. Płyta z hitami, ale też i utworami, które najzwyczajniej w świecie można by było (albo nawet: trzeba by było) pominąć. Momentami można się wręcz wyłączyć, wygłuszyć z dołujących tracków. I wracać do highlightów albumu. Tych jest na Ziemowicie kilka.

Przede wszystkim autoironiczny „Fan” z tanecznymi akordami i dynamiczną perkusją. Do tego, a może przede wszystkim, tekst opowiadający o zatraceniu artystycznym, o problemach i potrzebach zespołów i muzyków. I o prawdzie („znam wszystkie dobre recenzje / złe to chłam” – znamy to skądś? No znamy). Administratorr przygotował bardzo electroclashowy refren, tego nie da się ukryć. Co jeszcze?

Jeszcze „Złoty pociąg” z bajecznym wręcz chorusem i niezłym, aktualnym wstępem, przynajmniej jeśli spojrzy się na porę roku. Ale tutaj o sile kompozycji stanowi, znowu, refren. Podniesienie tonacji, podbicie patosu, ckliwy tekst, końcowe partie klawiszy i przejście w gitarę – to dobry utwór, może nie najlepszy na wydawnictwie, bo głównie ze względu na refren, ale dobry. Poziom trzyma też „La vagina de la muerte”, kubańska niemalże ballada o smutnym wydźwięku i z wpadającymi w ucho bębnami.

„Sama się przytulaj” to zaraz obok „Zbudujemy bazę” ostatni utwór, którego słuchanie sprawia przyjemność. Pozostałe? Raczej zamulające, lekko nijakie, a przede wszystkim dłużące się. Administratorr Electro mogli przyciąć tę płytę jednak nieco. Naprawdę. Bo przez takie kawałki jak „Taś taś” czy „W telewizji” (oraz pozostałe niewymienione tytuły) materiał jest po prostu nierówny. No i Marmol wypada o niebo lepiej w projekcie warszawskim jednak. Tak mi się wydaje.

Kataloński zespół, od momentu powstania w 2021 roku, wyróżnia się nie 'wynalezieniem koła na nowo' ani redefinicją gatunku heavy metalu, ale pełnym pasji oddaniem nieskalanej istocie tego gatunku.
'Rising' ucieleśnia ducha klasycznego heavy metalu. Hymnowe refreny, wznoszący się wokal, unoszące duszę harmonie i wciągające melodie, charakteryzują kompozycje, które doprowadzą miłośników tradycyjnego heavy metalu do wielokrotnego, pełnego błogości i satysfakcji odsłuchu.

Gee, that was fast! Savaged didn’t wait much to drop their second full-length, having only unleashed the chromed-out sabretooth a year ago, but here they are again, doing what they do best. That is a mix of speed and traditional heavy metal in case you missed one of the best releases from the last year. Now, how does Rising fare against Night Stealer? Quite well actually.

They pick up roughly where the debut left off, still having a very infectious energy to everything they do, but perhaps having a little less of the unpredictability songs like Tons of Leather and Elm Street had. So yeah, this kinda makes me sad, but the band turns my frown upside-down really quick with just how great everything else is about the album. At times the band takes us towards a much steelier sound, packing considerable heaviness with how they put more emphasis into the regular heavy metal sound, rather than focusing on the speed metal gallops and such. Fire It Up, for example, has some strong Metal Church and 80s Judas Priest vibes to its chorus, and it just makes me grin like a dumbass. But worry not, it’s not just ballsy songs from start to finish, as if you remember my previous review, I talked about how they have a knack for making some pretty damn good melodramatic, melodic tracks as well. This also returns in the shape of the glam-esque Queen of My Salvation with its simplified lead sections and 80s radioplay hard rock chorus (and some damned cowbells too sadly). Yeah, it’s not my favourite thing the band has ever written, and neither is the similarly silly Texas Bloody Texas, but the rest of what they have to offer more than make up for these.

And now we come to the point where the band showcases some experimenting with their sound. For example, the guitars have the same amazing tone, but this time around they let them get significantly more fancy, nearly reaching neoclassical levels of virtuosity. You’ll become very much aware of this fact after hearing what I consider the two absolute highlights of the record, namely Across the Burning Fields and Rising, both of which is what we could call a damn great attempt at making epic heavy or power metal. Former has some really good display of the oddly toned vocals, rhythmically spitting in a way that sounds very fitting for the song title, but they didn’t forget about their trademark falsettos or the sections with insane, descending shreds either. Still, the threatening barrage of Rising I like even more, giving me the impression that this is just the start of the Savaged saga. And let me tell you, they have convinced me to pay attention to the future chapters a long time ago.

There is just something fundamentally right about everything Savaged does. Like the way they are having the at times throaty singing be contrasted by the shrieky highs, harmonizing well with the backing vocals. Or how their guitarwork didn’t just get flashier, it also got much more cohesive riff patterns to make the album feel even tighter. Or perhaps how great their mixing and general production quality have been since day one. Seriously, this is absurdly good for a band that has only been around for a couple of years. And at the end of the day, Rising is catchy, complex when it wants to be complex, simple when it needs to be simple, and an album that you shouldn’t skip under any circumstance.

Kataloński zespół, od momentu powstania w 2021 roku, wyróżnia się nie 'wynalezieniem koła na nowo' ani redefinicją gatunku heavy metalu, ale pełnym pasji oddaniem nieskalanej istocie tego gatunku.
'Rising' ucieleśnia ducha klasycznego heavy metalu. Hymnowe refreny, wznoszący się wokal, unoszące duszę harmonie i wciągające melodie, charakteryzują kompozycje, które doprowadzą miłośników tradycyjnego heavy metalu do wielokrotnego, pełnego błogości i satysfakcji odsłuchu.

Gee, that was fast! Savaged didn’t wait much to drop their second full-length, having only unleashed the chromed-out sabretooth a year ago, but here they are again, doing what they do best. That is a mix of speed and traditional heavy metal in case you missed one of the best releases from the last year. Now, how does Rising fare against Night Stealer? Quite well actually.

They pick up roughly where the debut left off, still having a very infectious energy to everything they do, but perhaps having a little less of the unpredictability songs like Tons of Leather and Elm Street had. So yeah, this kinda makes me sad, but the band turns my frown upside-down really quick with just how great everything else is about the album. At times the band takes us towards a much steelier sound, packing considerable heaviness with how they put more emphasis into the regular heavy metal sound, rather than focusing on the speed metal gallops and such. Fire It Up, for example, has some strong Metal Church and 80s Judas Priest vibes to its chorus, and it just makes me grin like a dumbass. But worry not, it’s not just ballsy songs from start to finish, as if you remember my previous review, I talked about how they have a knack for making some pretty damn good melodramatic, melodic tracks as well. This also returns in the shape of the glam-esque Queen of My Salvation with its simplified lead sections and 80s radioplay hard rock chorus (and some damned cowbells too sadly). Yeah, it’s not my favourite thing the band has ever written, and neither is the similarly silly Texas Bloody Texas, but the rest of what they have to offer more than make up for these.

And now we come to the point where the band showcases some experimenting with their sound. For example, the guitars have the same amazing tone, but this time around they let them get significantly more fancy, nearly reaching neoclassical levels of virtuosity. You’ll become very much aware of this fact after hearing what I consider the two absolute highlights of the record, namely Across the Burning Fields and Rising, both of which is what we could call a damn great attempt at making epic heavy or power metal. Former has some really good display of the oddly toned vocals, rhythmically spitting in a way that sounds very fitting for the song title, but they didn’t forget about their trademark falsettos or the sections with insane, descending shreds either. Still, the threatening barrage of Rising I like even more, giving me the impression that this is just the start of the Savaged saga. And let me tell you, they have convinced me to pay attention to the future chapters a long time ago.

There is just something fundamentally right about everything Savaged does. Like the way they are having the at times throaty singing be contrasted by the shrieky highs, harmonizing well with the backing vocals. Or how their guitarwork didn’t just get flashier, it also got much more cohesive riff patterns to make the album feel even tighter. Or perhaps how great their mixing and general production quality have been since day one. Seriously, this is absurdly good for a band that has only been around for a couple of years. And at the end of the day, Rising is catchy, complex when it wants to be complex, simple when it needs to be simple, and an album that you shouldn’t skip under any circumstance.

Trzeci duży album francuskiego WHORESNATION. Barbarzyński i wśckiekły grindcore z deathmetalowym brzmieniem!



A band that plows through 16 track in 21 minutes, that's gotta be grindcore. You're damn right it is! And a roaring, spitting, raging offering of grindcore it is to boot.

Whoresnation offer us a blast of aural savagery that is high on octane and low on subtlety (and running time). It's full pelt for the bulk of the material, with only some sparse slower parts throughout. Energetic blastbeats propel the short tracks along with relentless power, while the frantic riffing clashes and thrashes with the manic hoarse grunting, both struggling for the listener's attention. It's controlled chaos to the fullest, and has the adrenaline racing through the veins in no time. For most part this is grindcore in the proud tradition of old Napalm Death, Assück, Rot and Agathocles, but in the overall execution of the music I also detect a bit of a powerviolence feel, kinda like Infest or Capitalist Casualties, especially in the energetic delivery. Next to that, there's also a death metal edge to the guitar playing at times, where Repulsion and Mortician aren't far off either. This tense mixture is sure to jolt awake even the coldest of corpses!

And yeah, I know. "This is just one long song, blablabla...". Well, fuck you, because this is just the way I love this stuff, and this album has oodles of aggression, force and conviction, while sounding powerful and utterly menacing. And what could you wish for more? This is the musical equivalent of a toddler blasted out of his mind on sugar, and I love it!

To piss with coffee in the morning, I'll take Whoresnation's "Dearth" instead!!
