Pierwszą od sześciu lat płytę heavy / powermetalowego Jag Panzer z Kolorado nagrano w Sonic Phish Productions (partie basu i perkusju), studiu Hound House (gitara rytmiczna i wokale) i SteamPunk Audio Labs (ścieżki gitary prowadzącej). Miksem w słynnym florydzkim studiu Morrisound zajął się Jim Morris, masteringiem zaś Maor Appelbaum w kalifornijskim Maor Appelbaum Mastering.

"The Hallowed" to album konceptualny o postapokaliptycznej przyszłości opowiedziany z perspektywy zwierząt. Z zawartą na nim opowieścią, choć przedstawioną z punktu widzenia ludzi, fani mogli zapoznać się pod koniec 2022 roku na kartach komiksu o tym samym tytule, który muzycy wydali własnym sumptem.

Gdy pojawiło się info o nowym pełniaku Wilczycy, to po prostu wzruszyłem ramionami. Nie kryję się z tym, że dotychczas ich wizję czarnego metalu, podlaną do tego trve otoczką uważałem za niestrawną i przesadzoną. Pewnie, ich kawałek z Romkiem (niech jego okręt płynie dalej) był w porządku, ale poza tym omijałem ich szerokim łukiem. Wiedziony jednak ciekawością włączyłem jednego z ich najnowszych singli by doznać opadu szczęki, bo zostałem zmiażdżony.


Moi drodzy, jeśli dotychczas omijaliście Wilczycę, bo wstyd jak chuj i chuj, to możecie z tej raz obranej drogi jednak zawrócić w tył, bo hord w końcu wydał naprawdę dobry album. Greg musiał pewnie ich odpowiednio długo smagać batem i dawać bana na wychodzenie do lasu nocą, bo dźwięki, jakie sączą się z „Magiji” zamiast ciar żenady wywołują ukontentowanie. Przede wszystkim do składu dołączył Krzysztof Klingbein, który był tu odpowiedzialny za bębny i to słychać, słodki Jezu, coś w kruchym wafelku podany został, jak one robią tam robotę. Zaczynamy od przyjemnego, klimatycznego wstępu w ramach „Ingressum”, by przejść do kawałka tytułowego, który notabene, był wspomnianym przeze mnie powyżej singlem, albowiem tam najmocniej słychać progres, jaki poczyniła Wilczyca. Jest wolno, jest jadowicie, z odrobiną melodyki, choćby w tym przewchujkurwistym solo (szczególnie ten podjazd w połowie piątej minuty, UH!). W tle czai się podstępny bas, a Nidhogg podlewa to eleganckim skrzeko-szeptem. Są też nienachalne klawisze, ale perkusja dziejąca się właśnie na tym kawałku rzuciła mnie na kolana. Potem następuje przyspieszenie, bo wjeżdża „Przyzywam”, które wybucha dzikim płomieniem nienawiści. Wokal przechodzi już w pełni do skrzeku, któremu wtóruje świetny motyw przewodni. Wspomniałem już, że tu także jest dokurwiona perka? Nie? No to jest dokurwiona hipnotyzując toną smaczków, które wprawne ucho wyłapie. Za gardło nadal trzyma będący następnym w kolejce „Święty Ogień”, który podobnie jak „Przyzywam” narzuca szybkie tempo z wdzięcznym motywem przewodnim. I KURWA TO SOLO NA BĘBNACH! Zaczyna się nieco po półtorej minuty, gitara schodzi na dalszy plan, by słuchacz doznał ciężkich obrażeń od tego krótkiego, ale doskonałego motywu. Ja ocknąłem się na podłodze, z siniakami. Tak było, nie zmyślam. W drugiej części płyty Wilczyca nieco obniża loty, bo „Wij Się Z Bólu Córo Syjonu” oraz „Tetragrammaton” nie porywają już tak bardzo, choć nadal ich odsłuch jest przyjemny, szczególnie tego drugiego.


Naspuszczałem się w tej recenzji, jak uczestnik gangbangu, ale „Magija” dała mi masę radości. Brzmienie jest doskonałe, bo idzie wyłapać każdy dźwięk, ale czuć, że to jest nienawistny, walący chłodem black metal. No i bębny. Nie wiem, kto wpadł na pomysł zaangażowania Klingsztofa na poczet tego albumu, ale zasługuje, by jego sztylet z lodu dosięgnął o jednego zdrajcę black metalu więcej. Perkusja dodaje masę energii do tej płyty i wznosi ją o kilka poziomów wyżej. Na drugim miejscu stawiam świetne riffy, które robią doskonałą, momentami mistyczną, atmosferę. Mimo wszystko mam jednak wrażenie, że najwięcej pary poszło w single, czyli „Magiję” i „Święty Ogień”, bo znacząco odstają jakością od reszty (nie żeby była ona zła). Szczególnie „Magija” smaga złem, jak dojrzała domina batem, więc jeśli chcecie próbki, by się przekonać, czy warto, to sięgnijcie po ten singiel, a potem po cały album.


Zdecydowanie, kurwa, nie będzie to czas stracony.

P.S. Nie mogę nie poruszyć tematu okładki, bo widzę, że spora część ludków skreśla płytę sapiąc, że „pedaliada i cyrk”. Serio, kurwa? Macie okładki z trupami w różnym stanie rozkładu, z ilustracjami kozłów o kutasach tak wielkich, że Romek Kostrzewski napisałby drugą część „Purpurowych Godów” i marudzicie na typa na koniu. Jedyne, co bawi tam, to może jakiś dziwnie niepasujący do całości zdjęcia corpsepaint Nidhogga, ale sami zapewne znacie dużo bardziej żenujące cover arty.

Tak śledzę sobie dokładnie losy Wilczycy od samego początku, kiedy to zespół wypłynął na powierzchnię trzy lata temu. Różne są oczywiście na ich temat opinie, ale jednemu zaprzeczyć się nie da. Chłopaki niesamowicie się przez ten czas rozwinęli. Rozwój oczywiście może być zarówno zaletą, jak i powodem do spuszczenia w kiblu. Tutaj jednak mam na myśli pozytywne tego słowa znaczenie. Przede wszystkim, jeśli chodzi o brzmienie, to między debiutem a „Magija” istnieje prawdziwa przepaść. Jakże naturalnie ciepło brzmią na nowych nagraniach instrumenty… Selektywnie, by żaden szkopuł nie umknął naszej uwadze, a jednocześnie nadal organicznie. Szczególne wrażenie robi tu wyraźnie pulsujący bas, nadający muzyce niesamowitej głębi. No ale nawet najlepszy sound nie uratuje przecież słabych kompozycji. Tu Wilczyca też stawia odważnie krok za krokiem, wprowadzając do swoich utworów dodatki, których wcześniej nie uświadczyliśmy, bo najzwyczajniej by do wcześniejszej twórczości nie pasowały. Nie jest to bynajmniej wyciąganie łapy w kierunku „post”. Na najnowszych nagraniach słychać więcej klasyki, z akordami heavymetalowymi włącznie. Jest więcej klimatu śródziemnomorskiego. Są też eksperymenty ze strukturą kompozycji, czyli wieloetapowy „Tetragrammaton”. Jest cały wachlarz wokali, którymi to panowie się tym razem podzielili… Bez względu jednak na wszystko, Wilczyca nadal pozostaje bezwzględnie zespołem czysto blackmetalowym, choć może już nie tak wściekłym jak po narodzeniu. Z porywczego, żądnego krwi zwierzęcia wyrósł dorosły osobnik, który nie rzuca się ślepo na ofiarę, a dokładnie planuje polowanie. Wilczyca, tradycyjnie już, nagrała płytę odmienną od poprzedniej. Bardziej melancholijną i emocjonalną, lecz wciąż pozostającą w drugofalowym kanonie. Być może wywoła ona odpływ części fanów, może przysporzy nowych… Muzycy pewnie i tak mają to w… gdzieś na drugim planie, bo przede wszystkim robią swoje bez oglądania się na trendy. I za to ich szanuję.

Zespół powołał do życia w 2018 roku Kazimierz Pabiasz - były muzyk i frontman grupy Old Breakout (której był poniekąd współzałożycielem). On także jest kompozytorem wszystkich zwartych tutaj nagrań, natomiast teksty napisał niezrównany - Bogdan Loebl. Do współpracy w nagraniu zaproszono ponadto starych wyjadaczy naszej sceny rockowej: Jacka Krzaklewskiego, Andrzeja Wolaka i Tomasza Kwiatkowskiego.

Breakout Night jak sama nazwa wskazuje prezentuje muzykę wprost inspirowaną twórczością słynnej grupy Tadeusza Nalepy. Ale co ważne nie jest to formacja coverowa, tylko prezentująca własny, autorski materiał. I trzeba przyznać że jest on naprawdę wyśmienity. Można śmiało założyć, że gdyby oryginalny Breakout działał do dnia dzisiejszego nagrywałby właśnie takie utwory.

Album w ciemno, bez żadnego ryzyka mogą zakupić wielbiciele klasycznego Breakoutu, ale także szeroko pojętego polskiego blues-rocka, zagranego na najwyższym poziomie. Krążek charakteryzuje stare, klasyczne, rockowe, gitarowe brzmienie. Zero plastiku i współczesnych tandetnych patentów nagraniowych. Masa smakowitych solówek oraz plastyczne tony perkusji i basu. Wartość całości podnosi jeszcze dodatkowo przyjemny wokal leadera - do złudzenia przypominający śpiew nieodżałowanego Tadeusza Nalepy. Jedyny niedosyt pozostawia fakt, że płytka jest de facto mini-albumem i trwa około 25-minut. A takiej fajnej muzyki chciało by się posłuchać w o wiele większej dawce.

Following Sirenia's majestic debut At Sixes and Sevens, An Elixir For Existence is perhaps the most logical second album that Sirenia could have produced. This album takes everything right in the gothic metal genre e.g soothing female vocals, harsh vocals that always command you to pay absolute attention, bombastic choirs and compiles them here. While providing very enjoyable music on its on this is simply more than an album.

An Elixir for Existence takes you on a journey through the darkest and most melancholy parts of the human mind and spirit, brightening your outlook on life. An Elixir for Existence definitely is not for everyone but this type of music rewards fans of the genre and those who are persistent. The price of this album is more than just a price tag or a download, it demands emotional investment.

Musically An Elixir for Existence can easily be described as a "typical" successor to At Sixes and Sevens or Tristania's Beyond the Veil, while mostly true, comparing it to those archetypes is simply not adequate as the atmosphere feels completely different and stands alone. A few songs deal with relatable themes that differ a lot than its predecessors such as drug abuse and suicide which allow you to have deep empathy with Morten Veland. The music also differs too due to the replacement of former female vocalist Fabienne Gondamin with new comer Henriette Bordvik who is just as great but different enough to stand out!

For those who have never heard At Sixes and Sevens or Beyond the Veil, this album can be described as a gothic metal album that could easily be at near incomprehensible levels due to the insane amount of things going on just during one song, however it never crosses the line of lunacy and maintains its perfect balance. There are clean female vocals, harsh and scathing vocals, Latin choirs and clean male vocals. Those vocal styles by themselves provide the listener with enough to absorb barring the distorted guitars, drums, violin and synthesizers!

This has to be one of the heaviest and anti stereotypical gothic metal albums I have heard and for those who think this will is just pop music with guitar due to the stigma the genre has are definitely in for an extreme shock when they hear the harsh vocals dominate almost all the tracks! All the other vocal styles are generously sprinkled out providing deep contrast and enjoyment when needed.

There are some minor flaws that can be waived over time. This is not for casual fans who may listen to this once in a blue moon. Truly this has to be is one of the hardest albums I have ever tried to get myself into and demands you listen to it many times over before you fully appreciate it. It is an enjoyable album first listen nothing more, I highly doubt you will fully appreciate it until at least the sixth listen and that's if you're fast and lucky. The fact that the lyrics use some quite advance vocabulary at times is just another hurdle you have to jump.

Once the prerequisites are fulfilled An Elixir for Existence is one of a couple epitomes of gothic metal and one that personifies all that is excellent in metal music, providing very enjoyable music with the combination of legitimate strong emotional content. Whoever think this is a poor man's equivalent of At Sixes and Sevens need to listen to this much more as the journey is just as good. Those who have the fortitude and perseverance to listen to An Elixir for Existence a few times to finally hear down the line the way the music was intended to be will be rewarded with not just excellent music but also a blissful experience that albums I can count on one hand can only provide.
