Magneto - to warszawskie trio założone przez gitarzystę Bartka Tycińskiego (m.in Mitch & Mitch, Starzy Singers, Slalom, Der Father/Mother, New Cage, Veda Sound ) wraz z perkusistą Hubertem Zemlerem (m.in Der Father/Mother, Opla, CEL) i basistą Piotrem Domagalskim (m.in Lomi Lomi, Levity)

Związani z warszawską wytwórnią Lado ABC (RIP) muzycy, tym razem postanowili spotkać się wiosną podczas lockdownu, żeby nie zwariować. Efektem tego spotkania było nagranie albumu „Requiem pour Satana”, który zawiera 10 utworów instrumentalnych.

Stylistycznie album stanowi mieszankę łączącą w sobie zarówno rytmy południowoamerykańskie, tajski surf, turecki funk, hawajską hulę czy muzykę filmową. Trzy utwory to aranżacje Louiza Bonfy, Camille Sauvage i P.M. Pocket Music, a pozostałe to kompozycje muzyków. Całość zagrana jest w sposób minimalistyczny, z sennymi, rozmytymi gitarami i psychodeliczną, transową sekcją rytmiczną.

Gościem specjalnym trzeciej części mojego jednorazowego cyklu będzie osobnik o imieniu Lucyfer. Choć historia i sztuka różne imiona mu nadawała, a niektórzy wyrażali mu nawet współczucie. Do moich ulubionych należy imię Woland. Jego znakiem rozpoznawczym jest liczba sześćset sześćdziesiąt sześć, co kierować może (ale nie musi) do dawnego portalu/wydawcy Trzy Szóstki. Są tacy, którzy twierdzą, że za pomocą wzoru na ciastkach stara się z nami skomunikować. Z tego wstępu płynnie przechodzimy do powołanego w pandemii tria Magneto, które uraczyło nas uroczą i wspaniałą płytą „Requiem pour Satana”, której okładkowy szpon nie pozostawia wątpliwości, co do miejsca pochodzenia.

Za nazwą Magneto skryli się gitarzysta i kompozytor Bartek Tyciński, perkusista Hubert Zemler oraz basista Piotr Domagalski. Powinniście ich znać z różnych składów, a przytaczać wszystkiego w czym udział wzięli nie mam zamiaru. Za mało miejsca. Jedno jest pewne, trzymając się legendy o Robercie Johnsonie można założyć, że nasze trio też weszło w konszachty z diabłem. Tak najłatwiej wytłumaczyć sobie z poziomu kanapy ich piekielne muzyczne zdolności. Trudniej pewnie wyjść z założenia, że oto mamy do czynienia z trzema wybitnie utalentowanymi jednostkami, które ciężką pracą, otwartymi głowami osiągnęli taki poziom.

Mnie pasują obie wersje, a wysoka jakość albumu „Requiem pour Satana” nie jest dla mnie zaskoczeniem, choć zaskoczeń na nim nie brakuje. Rzućmy to i posłuchajmy „Requiem pour Satan” (kompozycja Camille`a Sauvage z wokalizą Joanny Halszki Sokołowskiej) kapitalnie filmowego utworu, który buduje i rozbraja jednocześnie nastrój grozy. Szaleńcze eskapady stylistyczne zespołu są olśniewające. Luźny, pustynny i amerykański „Mikołaj”, powolno-rozmyty „Temptation of Stingray”, rozpromieniony i taneczny „Mambolero” brazylijskiego gitarzysty Luiza Bonfa czy przywołujący na myśl stare polskie filmy „Henryk Hula”.

Niewyczerpane muszą być zasoby inteligencji i pomysłowości twórców. Wszakże na początek dostajemy strzał z biodra w postaci „Pama Rum Kwan” (oryg. P.M Pocket Music). Każdy nadwrażliwiec porzuci smutne oblicze, gdy mu się puści „La Rumbia en Blanco y Negro”. Z kolei „Die Turkfunken” jest tak mocny, że zawstydza światowych epigonów rocka oraz ich słuchaczy. Niczego nie można być do końca pewnym bo trio za nic ma reguły i zasady, których spisanych nikt nie widział. Nawet w wolniejszej odsłonie („Garagem de Pedrinho”) potrafią sporo namieszać. Nic lepszego nie znajdziecie. Albumy takie jak „Requiem pour Satana” przypominają, że człowiek wymyślił muzykę również dla radości. Że przy okazji jest to płyta polska, cieszy podwójnie.

The members of the band are part of Warsaw’s experimental, jazz, impro, contemporary music scene. They collaborated in the past in various bands and projects of Warsaw’s legendary independent label Lado ABC. This time they met during Spring lockdown not to get crazy. As a result they recorded „Requiem pour Satana” - 10 instrumental tunes that combine South American rhythms, Thai shadow / surf music, Turkish funk, Hawaiian hula ballad and soundtrack music. Three tunes are arrangements of Louiz Bonfa, Camille Sauvage and P.M. Pocket Music. The rest are original compositions of the trio. The sound is quite minimalistic with dreamy, reverbed guitars and psychodelic, trans rhythm section.

"Magneto is a a Polish jazz-rock trio consisting of Hubert Zemler, Piotr Domagalski, and Bartek Tyciński. They’ve been pigeonholed as essentially an instrumental surf rock band (which is partially their own doing) but there is so much more to the band and their sound than simply a more technically savvy reimagining of Dick Dale’s repertoire. A lot of what you will hear on their debut album Requiem pour Satana is reminiscent of the cinematic and aesthetic qualities of the most recent El Michels Affair album Yeti Season. Not surprising as both bands see fit to combine South American rhythms with Turkish funk. Beyond such apt comparisons though, it is worth noting that Magneto has a unique and eclectic aura that distinguishes them from their peers in the world of international jazz. A lot of the sounds that they are combining shouldn’t work together, but somehow still adhere in to a coherent and euphonious listening experience.

What is especially magnificent about Magneto is that while their music is easy on the ears, it’s far from a superfluous listen. Something that I attribute to not only the catchy compositions they’ve crafted but also the slightly tart quality of their guitar tones, an aspect that accommodates a sense of the uncanny. The band’s journey of forbidden fruit finding begins with “Pama Rum Kwan” a lonesome, Thai-surf flavored splash of salt and tears. The next track “La Rumbia en Blanco y Negro” threads Turkish-inspired chords through Brazillian bongo beats to produce a slightly sticky traipse of galloping rhythms and curiously textured grooves.

Instrumental surf rock hasn’t been go-to for rock enthusiasts since at least the early ’60s, and while it was somewhat revived during the ’90s, this revisionist revival seemed to focus more on the genre’s overlap with rockabilly. A fact that made it feel like an afterthought and incomplete in its appreciation. It’s therefore very cool to hear Magneto reach back to the central American origins of the genre with cool little, mid-afternoon cantina jammers like”Mambolero” and filter these dusty-boarder walking chords through numbers as mysterious as the witchy, spur-clattery trance, scuff and slither of the title-track, which feels like it is attempting to entice your soul out of your body with a heavy-lidded gaze. It’s a number with a snake-like charm which “Danse Exotique d’un Amant Timide” also mimics. “Die Turkfunken” is an admirable Chicano soul indebted bop, while closer “MIkołaj” plants itself squarely on the California coast with a homemade satellite dish, attempting to intercept messages from interstellar beings. Requiem pour Satana is a strangely transportive record that is worth your time today." Mick R.

Lubicie, padlinożercy, wczesne nagrania Carcass? To tylko rzućcie okiem na okładkę kitajców z Fester Decay. Kojarzy się z czymś? W zasadzie mówi ona wszystko i pisane recenzji o tym wydawnictwie mija się z celem. Rzecz jednak w tym, czy panowie skośnoocy potrafią odwzorować, bo przecież nie tworzyć, rozkładowy i bardzo wymiotny klimat gore/grindu z drugiej połowy lat osiemdziesiątych. A powiem wam, że tak i owszem. I to nie tylko odbić go od kalki, choć trafiają się na tym krążku chwile bardzo mocno nawiązujące do oryginału, ale i zastosować kilka bardzo udanych od niego odskoczni. Tak, główną myślą przewodnią jest tutaj „Śmierdzenie Zgnilizną”, aczkolwiek panowie z Fester Decay umiom przedstawić proces gnilny z własnego punktu widzenia. Generalnie obcujemy tutaj z szybkim graniem, jednak przeplatanym dość często rytmicznymi i wkręcającymi się w ucho przerywnikami. Niejednokrotnie będącymi swoistego rodzaju żartem, albo cytatem zaczerpniętym z horroru z lat pewnie osiemdziesiątych. W tych czternastu kompozycjach rządzi rzyg, chwilami wręcz punkowa zabawa i niewymuszona radość z grania. Chłopaki napierdalają swoje z zacięciem maniaka nie oglądając się na nowoczesne trendy. Brzmienie „Reality Rotten to the Core” jest jakoby żywcem wyrwane z lat wspomnianych na początku, pełne syfu i wszechobecnych wydzielin ropnych. Chcecie innowacji? To spierdalajcie, tu takich nie ma. Fester Decay to zwykły tribute dla zespołu z Liverpoolu, aczkolwiek z wkładem własnym. Tyle mam, kurwa, do powiedzenia, bo co się będę silił. Idę rzygać zgnilizną…

Reedycja kompilacyjnego materiału hiszpańskich horror death/grind rzeźników MACHETAZO, pierwotnie wydanego na CD w 2006 roku i od lat całkowicie niedostępnego. „Ultratumba” to 28 utworów pochodzących ze wszystkich EP-ek zespołu z lat 1998–2004, w tym splitów z CIANIDE, GENERAL SURGERY, BODIES LAY BROKEN, CORRUPTED, RISE ABOVE i ABSCESS, materiałów z EP-ek „The Maggot Sessions” i „Horror Grind” oraz numerów z tribute’ów dla CARCASS („Requiems of Revulsion”) i IMPETIGO („Wizards of Gore”). Brudny, cuchnący death/grind inspirowany klasycznymi zespołami jak CARCASS, REPULSION, AUTOPSY.


FUCK YES! It's so good to see that not all new releases are shit. Ok, this actually isn't new music, since it's a compilation of all past Splits and MCD's, except the one with Total Fucking Destruction.

I know that an hour (actually 62 minutes) of death/grind can be excessive, and because of that I was kind of sceptic about this release being a good idea, but luckily I was wrong.

The thing that makes this release flow right, and without being boring, is the fact that the releases compilated here cover many years of the band, so you can listen to the progression of their sound. You can hear ultra-fast grind parts, along with more groovy riffs and even some slower bits, nearer to doom.
The variety of the bands covered (Carcass, Saint Vitus, Venom, and a few others) also hepls to make you forget about the lenght of the album.
The only thing I didn't like that much were the versions of "Children of the grave" of Black Sabbath, and "Mortado" of Impetigo, because they add so much speed in some parts, that the riffs are almost ungrecognizable, and I think that that's something that shouldn't be done with classic songs like those. Anyway 26 good tracks out of 28 is a killer fraction.

So if you like Death Metal you NEED this one, and if you don't know Machetazo this might be the right album to introduce yourself to their world of gore and horror.

Vangelis urodził się 29 marca 1943 roku w Agrii koło Wolos, w Grecji. Edukację muzyczną rozpoczął w wieku 4 lat, a już w wieku 6 lat miał swój pierwszy publiczny występ, na którym prezentował własne kompozycje. Vangelis był w dużej części samoukiem - odmawiał pobierania lekcji gry na pianinie, a w ciągu swojej kariery nie zdobył formalnej wiedzy na temat notacji muzycznej. Uczył się muzyki poważnej, malarstwa i reżyserii filmowej na Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Atenach. Zyskał światową sławę dzięki swoim wyjątkowym, często epickim kompozycjom, które łączyły elementy muzyki elektronicznej, symfonicznej i rockowej. Wstawka zawiera trzeci album duetu Jona Andersona i Vangelisa, wydany w maju 1983 r. przez Polydor Records.
