Roy Harper (ur. 12 czerwca 1941 w Rusholme, dzielnicy Manchesteru) to brytyjski muzyk rockowy i folkowy, wokalista, gitarzysta, aktor, autor bardzo osobistych, poetyckich tekstów. Uznawany jest za jednego z największych wirtuozów gitary akustycznej. Harper obok swej kariery solowej współpracował z wieloma czołowymi grupami i artystami rockowymi. Śpiewał w utworze „Have a Cigar” grupy Pink Floyd z płyty Wish You Were Here. To nie pierwsze koncertowe wydawnictwo Blues Pills, ale z pewnością najlepsze.

Występy live to jeden z największych, jeśli nie największy atut Blues Pills, choć akurat na brak atutów ta nad wyraz utalentowana, międzynarodowa ekipa zdecydowanie nie może narzekać. Nic dziwnego, że pierwszą koncertową epkę "Live At Rockpalast" kwartet wydał jeszcze przed debiutanckim albumem, uwiecznił też jeden z festiwalowych występów promujących pierwszy ze studyjnych krążków "Blues Pills". Jednak to wraz z jego następcą, wydanym w ubiegłym roku i doskonale przyjętym "Lady in Gold" akcje zespołu zyskały na tyle, by wyprzedać na przykład liczącą 1200 miejsc paryską salę Le Trianon. To właśnie tu zarejestrowano pierwsze w karierze Blues Pills koncertowe DVD.

"Live in Paris" to autentyczny wulkan energii. Wehikuł czasu, który przenosi widza wprost w epokę flower-power. I skrócona lekcja poglądowa na temat tego, jak grać dziś vintage czy psychodeliczny rock na najwyższym poziomie. Obawiam się jednak, że nawet cały semestr intensywnych lekcji wielu innym kapelom by nie pomógł, bo przecież to właśnie Blues Pills mają za mikrofonem Elin Larsson - frontwoman idealną, pod każdym względem najlepszą na całej retro scenie. Elin wspaniale śpiewa, prezencją wpisuje się doskonale w obraną stylistykę, a na scenie rusza się tak energicznie, jakby właśnie uczestniczyła w treningu z Chodakowską. Podejrzewam, że większość widzów tego koncertu, po takiej dawce skoków byłaby blisko pilnej potrzeby sięgnięcia po defibrylator. Tymczasem Elin bez trudu i zadyszki wyciąga każdą wokalną górkę. Jakby tego wszystkiego było mało, "I Felt a Change" wykonała samodzielnie, akompaniując sobie na organach. Tytułowa 'Pani w złocie' to synonim śmierci, ale to w końcu wokalistka jest w tym składzie największym złotym samorodkiem.

Na tle Szwedki reszta składu, wzmocnionego na potrzeby koncertu piątym muzykiem - Rickardem Nygrenem, odpowiedzialnym za gitarę i organy, nie musi już silić się na szczególną żywiołowość. Co zresztą nie byłoby także łatwe, bo choćby taki Dorian Sorriaux, nawet występując na rodzimej ziemi ani myśli pozować na gitarowego, uwielbianego przez tłumy herosa. A przecież skromny, wręcz nieśmiały Dorian dysponuje naprawdę solidnym talentem, a zarazem naturalnym wyczuciem stylistyki, którego nie można po prostu się nauczyć.

Cały koncert, podczas którego kapela wykonała "Lady in Gold" niemal w całości, został doskonale zrealizowany. I to poczynając od pierwszych ujęć, gdy zespół wkracza na scenę. Do klimatu retro dopasowano nawet czcionkę i układ graficzny napisów początkowych. Montaż jest dynamiczny, ale bez zbędnych fajerwerków, nadmiernego wygładzania brzmienia i plastiku w obrazie, który tylko wzmacniałby wrażenie nierzeczywistości oglądanych scen.

A jeśli cyfrowy format "Live in Paris" miałby niektórym fanom przeszkadzać we właściwym odbiorze tej retro sztuki, Nuclear Blast ma na to odpowiedź w postaci kilku wersji edycji winylowej, w tym rzecz jasna i złotej. Są tacy, którzy nade wszystko przedkładają widok obracającego się na talerzu winylowego placka, zapewniam jednak, że Elin wraz z kolegami potrafią sprawić, że na czas oglądania przychylniej spojrzy się na telewizor.

Od wydania albumu „Kore Wa!” minęły cztery lata, w trakcie których sporo się wydarzyło. Naprawdę sporo. I chociaż żyjemy w erze informacji, to wydaje się, że najbardziej istotne wiadomości praktycznie do nas nie docierają. Giną one w atakującym nas zewsząd strumieniu bełkotu, kłamstw, dezinformacji i gadania o niczym. „Demagogue Days” to album o komunikacji. Chociaż nie jest to album koncepcyjny per se, to teksty są tematyczne i mówią okomunikowaniu się ludzi ze sobą, a właściwie o szumie informacyjnym i braku porozumienia na elementarnych poziomach kontaktów międzyludzkich.

Paradoksalnie zespół Suburban Savages zaplanował ostatnie etapy nagrywania nowej płyty, akurat w momencie, gdy wybuchła pandemia. Przyczyniło się to do poczucia oddalenia i braku możliwości regularnych spotkań w sali prób. Odzwierciedlając temat albumu, muzycy, mieszkając zaledwie kilka kilometrów od siebie, uświadomili sobie, że muszą komunikować się w taki sposób, jakby znajdowali się w różnych, oddalonych od siebie o tysiące kilometrów, stronach świata. Tak blisko, a tak daleko...

Dlatego nic dziwnego, że „Demagogue Days” to album, który odzwierciedla zmiany zarówno na świecie, jak i w samym zespole. Członkowie przychodzili i odchodzili, a obecny podstawowy skład Suburban Savages tworzą: Trond Gjellum – śpiew, perkusja, programowanie, syntezatory, sample, Anders Kristian Krabberød - bas, gitara e-bow, Mari Lesteberg – śpiew w chórkach, syntezatory, Thomas Meidell – śpiew, gitary, sitar, a także Aleksandra Morozova - chórki.

Podczas gdy poprzednia płyta, „Kore Wa!”, zawierała głównie pomysły i aranżacje Tronda Gjelluma (dla którego macierzystą formacją pozostaje Panzerpappa), to nowy album jest wynikiem bardziej demokratycznego procesu, w którym wszyscy członkowie zespołu zaangażowali się w komponowanie i aranżowanie.

„Demagogue Days” składa się z ośmiu piosenek, trwających od 90 sekund („Let’s Talk”) do około 8 minut (są trzy takie kompozycje: otwierające płytę nagranie „Aroused And Confused”, które nie wiedzieć czemu, jako najdłuższe w tym zestawie zostało wybrane na pilotującego płytę singla, oraz dwa utwory umieszczone na samym końcu – „Under Mirrored Skies” i instrumentalny, godny finał tego wydawnictwa „The Silence Afterwards”). Zespół wyraźnie dojrzał, poszedł do przodu i bezbłędnie opanował sztukę tworzenia zapadających w pamięć melodii. Położył też większy nacisk na element wokalny (choć jest na tym krążku kilka imponujących instrumentali, jak na przykład „Krystle Fox”), a wszystkie kompozycje zawierają w sobie element melancholii i w swoim stylistycznym zabarwieniu rozciągają się od prog rocka i art popu aż po post punk. Muzyka Suburban Savages jest teraz jeszcze bardziej złożona, a w porównaniu z „Kore Wa!” jest też w niej więcej elementów symfonicznych.

Napisawszy to co powyżej, chciałbym jednak zastrzec, żeby raczej nie spodziewać się po płycie „Demagogue Days” jakichś szczególnie epickich klimatów i utworów wykonanych z wielkim symfonicznym rozmachem. Ale też nie sposób odmówić jej swoistego uroku. Suburban Savages przedstawiają na niej dobrze przemyślaną i wyrafinowaną muzykę, a swoimi pomysłami i ich realizacją nie odstają od rzetelnego, ‘norweskiego’ poziomu, który już dawno stał się wyznacznikiem wysokiej muzycznej jakości.

There seem to be countless Scandinavian bands out there that put out sad and melancholic music that it has almost become a genre in and of itself. This is not the case with Suburban Savages album "Demagogue Days" however. It's been several years since their last album "Kore Wa!", and there have been a few line-up changes since then. In that album, there seemed to be more of a unfocused sound that might spring from the fact that the band was trying to work in too many styles like Zeuhl and punk which almost created a haphazard feeling even though the album itself turned out pretty decent.
For their 2021 album "Demagogue Days", the band seems a lot more focused on a style that quite effectively melds bright poppy music with complex progressive styles. Remember the days when you could whistle, hum or silently sing those complex songs from Gentle Giant or Yes? Well, this album seems to have hit on this quite well. While the band seems to have moved a bit away from the avant-pop music from before, they still retain an impressive level of complexity while making their music bright and cheery sounding. It's a surprisingly great combination on this album that may surprise you quite pleasantly.

You'll pick up on the sophisticated pop style on songs like "Aroused and Confused" where electronic and traditional rock instruments alike work together to create some interesting timbres throughout. Also, with three vocalists, you'll hear a layering that creates an almost choral effect in the 2nd half of the track that will remind you of Pure Reason Revolution. This will also come to play in the title track, which is simple and complex at the same time. You'll notice that the band does not use standard song styles, yet the melodies are simple enough to be memorable, yet complex enough to keep things interesting.

It's not all bright and cheery, however. "Iconoclast" starts off with a solid rhythm section supporting a darker synth melody which eventually slips quite comfortable into a very Gentle Giant-like melody where the vocalists participate in a very tricky interchange. In the midst of all this, they still leave space for some resolute instrumental sections and a great guitar-led section to end it all off with. Styles also meld together in the instrumental "Krystle Fox" as a fast moving, arpeggio-like tonal percussion supports a slower moving guitar melody creating an interesting contrast. Other atypical instruments are brought in and given time to play around with the theme before things get heavy as everything is brought together.

"Under Mirrored Skies" is also a highlight of the album, utilizing vocals in a different way by allowing individual singers to create lyrical sections that have their own melodies. After a few long verses, the synth and guitar move into a call and answer section which builds in tension and heaviness as the guitar pounds away and the synth flies off into the stratosphere.

This album quite effectively combines simplistic with complex and that is what makes it the most interesting. This is accomplished both by vocal and instrumental sections and it all melds together quite well. The band's aim seems to be finding that fine line between accessible and complex, a line that has been found before in some of the classical prog bands of yesteryear, and a line which The Suburban Savages find here, yet they also make everything relevant and modern so there is no mistake that they are developing their own style and finding their own niche.

'Carnage Gathers' to wysokiej klasy deathmetalowy album, który z pewnością zadowoli wszystkich chorych i obłąkanych... będziesz chciał do niej wracać raz po raz...

Three years after their debut offering, the festering cadaver of Vancouver’s Grave Infestation, has risen again —ghastlier and more ravenous than ever before. Unleashed through a profane alliance between Dark Descent Records and Invictus Productions, Carnage Gathers emerges as a monstrous abomination, tearing flesh and sinew from the twisted legacies of Autopsy, Grave, Nihilist, Repulsion, and Abhorrence. These severed limbs and organs are stitched together into a horrifying golem of their own blasphemous design.

“It’s a frantic death metal assault! Violent, and unrelenting. The fast parts are faster, the slow parts are slower and everything is just plain nastier. It's like we made an album that sounds like it came out even before our first album,” the band says.

A putrid production, steeped in decay and malevolence, is the lifeblood of death metal. What we have here might just be one of the most grotesquely brilliant productions of the year. “The album was recorded and mixed with engineer Greg Wilkinson at the infamous Earhammer Studios in Oakland, producing a vile record that is a sonic push forward,” states vocalist/guitarist Graham Christofferson. “We wanted the album dripping with disgustingness and bringing forward elements we love about sick, underground death metal. The great thing about working with Greg is he's entrenched in the music we love and play. He could see our vision, and helped us make it happen. He had death metal solutions for death metal problems, along with great old cabinets and amps. Even the studio itself gives off deathly ambience."

The record comes infested with macabre verses and cover artwork, the latter courtesy of the notorious Misanthropic Illustrations: “Each song references a story of someone’s strange relationship to death, real or fictitious,” reveals Christofferson. “The cover art is related to the track The Anthropophagus, it's about a 17th century French cannibal hermit. That's the cave he lived in. People called him the Anthropophagus, which means cannibal, but he was just basically starved to madness."

Skrillex, właśc. Sonny John Moore (ur. 15 stycznia 1988 w Los Angeles) to amerykański DJ i producent muzyczny. Zajmuje się produkcją szeroko pojętej muzyki elektronicznej z gatunku dubstep i pochodnych. Wychowany w północno-wschodnim Los Angeles w Kalifornii, Moore dołączył do amerykańskiej posthardcorowej grupy From First to Last jako frontman w 2004 i wraz z zespołem nagrał dwa albumy studyjne (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count i Heroine) przed opuszczeniem grupy, by rozpocząć karierę solową w 2007. Zaczął swoją pierwszą trasę jako artysta solowy w późnym 2007.
