Their songs have enough structure and originality with fast tempos, breaks and melodic parts, no doubts they have their own individuality and charisma. As their previous bands were known from being politically outspoken, THAF continue with the "Straight Edge is Politics – Hardcore is Resistance" message speaking about social/political issues, promoting veganism / vegetarianism and drug-free lifestyle.

This release features a concert recorded on November 9, 2019, at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre during the Interference audiovisual communications festival. The album "Hospodi," which has received praise for its polished production, excellent songwriting, and captivating atmosphere, has also faced criticism for its commercialism and ability to attract an international audience.

One thing is certain: the album, released in July 2019, came at a challenging time for the band, coinciding with a media dispute that significantly harmed the label's reputation and colored perceptions of the music amidst the conflict. Today, we revisit the November concert, which marked the last performance in the band's "Hospodi" era.

The album was mixed and mastered by Wojtek Wiesławski in September 2025.
The cover features icons created by Piotr Piasecki, while the graphic design was done by the dedicated Diana Sawicka from What the Moon Brings.
Event photos were taken by Wojciech Miklaszewski.

Doskonały przykład brutalności hiszpańskiej sceny muzycznej.
Prawdziwa symfonia dla każdego miłośnika gatunku!



The re-incarnation of the seminal Spanish band CANNIBAL GRANDPA. Now BONECARVER, the Spaniard Slammers return with their debut album EVIL. Furious, brutal and executed with clinical precision; this is BONECARVER.



From the epic cover art to the legendary deathcore name, I had very high expectations for Bonecarver's debut, Evil. I wouldn't say the band exceeded them, but this album is far from a disappointment. It falls somewhere in the "could have been better, but not too shabby" category.

First of all, the vocals are probably the main drawback of this album. While they're passable most of the time, there are moments where vocalist Fernando del Villar gets carried away and sounds more like a squealing pig than a scary, menacing death metal vocalist. What's nice about his vocal performance, though, is that it usually fits the music and it avoids overpowering the instrumentation. Deathcore albums are usually driven by drums, and that's definitely the case on this record.

There are some pretty cool effects the band deploys that are worth mentioning, like the gun cocking sound on the opening "Revolver." It's a very small detail but it's symbolic of the care that Bonecarver put into crafting this album. There are numerous riff changes and time signature switches on any given track, but the band generally has a keen instinct for making these developments flow. A good example is the beginning of "The Scythe," where the band progressively gets more intense, heavier, and faster before retreating back to the gargantuan riffing that slowly moves the song along bits at a time. The distorted guitar effects on this song are pleasant, as is the melodic guitar solo that runs behind a more echoed vocal delivery.

The band's songwriting is usually on point, and none of the instruments feel overwhelming or out of place. The synthesizer buildup on "Mallevs Maleficarvm" are a nice touch, and the chunky riffs are in perfect contrast to the anthemic feel the song has. It's almost akin to late-stage Emperor, with how atmospheric and symphonic this track sounds. For the majority of the album being riff-driven, this track is a nice change of pace.

While the majority of this album is executed well, there are a few forgettable tracks and ideas that just don't pan out as well. "Nest of Traitors" has some interesting bass work that feels a little weird, even if it isn't too noticeable throughout the majority of the song (it's the first thing you hear in the intro though). The riffs aren't as creative or as hard-hitting on this track as they are elsewhere on the album as well. The band does redeem itself preemptively with the striking "Moon Maniac," though, where the drums are absolutely crushing and the adrenaline the band builds is strong enough to induce a heart attack! The long title track that closes the album out is well-written, conceptual, and haunting as well, putting a nice bow on the album's captivating, frightening presentation.

"Nest of Traitors" has some interesting bass work that feels a little weird, even if it isn't too noticeable throughout the majority of the song (it's the first thing you hear in the intro though). The riffs aren't as creative or as hard-hitting on this track as they are elsewhere on the album as well. The band does redeem itself preemptively with the striking "Moon Maniac," though, where the drums are absolutely crushing and the adrenaline the band builds is strong enough to induce a heart attack! The long title track that closes the album out is well-written, conceptual, and haunting as well, putting a nice bow on the album's captivating, frightening presentation.

Nowa, limitowana, mocno rozszerzona, europejska edycja jednego z najwcześniejszych (obok Phallus Dei - Amon Duul II), undergroundowych albumów wydanych w 1969 roku w Niemczech. Na zrealizowanej przez wytwórnię Hansa, zdominowanej przez długie kompozycje o raczej mrocznym charakterze płycie dominowała bardzo żywa, mocno psychodeliczna, improwizowana, jazzująca, trochę zappowska, niepozbawiona etnicznych wpływów, ale trzymana 'w ryzach' progresywna muzyka z dominującymi partiami saksofonu, organów i gitar.
W 1970 roku zespół skrócił nazwę na Xhol i nagrał dwa, bardzo fajne ale chyba już nie tak ekscytujące albumy. Do zawartości oryginalnego longplaya dołączona 2 nagrania z rzadkiego singla z 1969 roku oraz trzy doskonałe i trwające razem 35 minut utwory nagrane w 1970 roku dla legendarnego programu Beat-Club!

Wkrótce jednak ze składu odeszli obaj wokaliści i gitarzysta, a pozostali muzycy, wsparci przez klawiszowca Öckiego Breverta, zmienili nazwę na Xhol Caravan (później skróconą do Xhol, aby uniknąć pomyłek z brytyjskim Caravan) i podążyli w zupełnie inne, bardziej ambitne i eksperymentalne rejony. Opublikowany w 1969 roku album "Electrip" to jedno z najwcześniejszych krautrockowych wydawnictw.

Oczywiście, w tamtym czasie nikt jeszcze nie nazywał takiej muzyki krautrockiem. Xhol Caravan byli jednymi z pionierów stylu, prawdziwą awangardą. Muzycy w bardzo twórczy sposób czerpią tutaj z anglosaskiej psychodelii (tej rockowej, nie soulowej) i free jazzu, tworząc coś zupełnie nowego i oryginalnego. Album składa się z czterech narkotycznych jamów, zbudowanych z wyrazistej gry sekcji rytmicznej, psychodelicznych brzmień elektrycznych klawiszy, oraz jazzowych solówek saksofonów i fletu. Największe wrażenie robi siedemnastominutowy "Raise Up High", w którym pojawia się nawet zadziorna partia wokalna van Wyka, nadająca nieco hardrockowego charakteru, a także intrygująca część instrumentalna, momentami bliska freejazzowej improwizacji. Uwagę przyciągają także transowe "Pop Games" i "All Green", kojarzące się nieco z późniejszą twórczością Soft Machine (z albumów "Fourth" i "Fifth"). Z kolei w dynamicznym "Electric Fun Fair" i finałowej miniaturce "Walla Mashalla" muzycy pokazują, że nie brakuje im także poczucia humoru.

"Electrip" to bardzo udany album, wychodzący poza ciasne ramy konkretnych stylów i gatunków. Z pewnością przypadnie do gustu wszystkim słuchaczom otwartym na muzykę mniej konwencjonalną, łamiącą międzygatunkowe granice.

I just love the way these guys jammed. Flautist and sax player Hansi Fischer would leave soon after this record to join EMBRYO.
"Electric Fun Fair" opens with the sound of a toilet flushing followed by a circus-like melody before we get to the rest of the song. Sax and drums lead the way with some great organ runs 3 minutes in as drums pound. Sax is back 6 minutes in. "Pop Games" opens with chipmunk-like voices before drums, bass and sax take over. Great sound. It settles before 3 minutes as drums and other sounds come and go with no melody until 4 minutes in when a hypnotic beat is joined by some powerful organ 5 minutes in.

"All Green" is classic XHOL. I like this one a lot. It's like Free Jazz as drums, organ and sax stand out as they just jam. The bass also becomes prominant later. "Raise Up High" features vocals that are pretty raw but they work. Drums, flute, sax and organ stand out as he sings away. One line he sings is "We're gonna all get stoned, and then get blown." Where's the toilet flush ? Haha. It calms down 6 minutes in with sax sounds as it starts to build. Drums, organ and other sounds come and go until the main melody returns 9 minutes in and they jam. "Walla Masallah" is a short song with spoken words in German with a simple melody.

If I was rating the music by itself i'd probably give 3.5 stars, but this rating includes the fact it is somewhat original and very influential. This is an excellent addition to your collection, and a must have for Krautrock fans out there. And check out their live "Hau-Ruk" as well.

Blue Effect (potem Modry Efekt) to chyba najlepsza czeska grupa - ze świetnym, by nie powiedzieć obłędnym gitarzystą Radimem Hladikiem. Ten wybitny, progresywny album bez wątpienia należy do PIERWSZEJ PIĄTKI ROCKA z Bloku Wschodniego! Nagrany w 1969 i 1970 winyl "Kingdom Of Life" przygotowany został z myślą o sprzedaży na rynek krajów Bloku Wschodniego. Tak naprawdę był to debiutancki LP "Meditace" (1970), z tą różnicą, że cztery kawałki z pierwszej strony zaśpiewane oryginalnie po czesku (umieszczone w bonusach - obok 6 nagrań z singli) zostały zastąpione angielskimi słowami nowego wokalisty i alternatywną okładką. Połączenie stylistyki Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, Led Zeppelin i The Moody Blues. Dlaczego u nas nie nagrywano takich płyt?!? Na tym 80-minutowym CD umieszczono wszystkie nagrania z wczesnego psych-progresywnego okresu twórczości zespołu, a który już w 1970 roku poszedł w nieco bardziej jazzowe, równie ekscytujące rejony.

W Czechosłowacji, a konkretnie w Pradze, w latach 60-tych powstały dwa wielkie zespoły. Pierwszy, inspirował się głównie późnymi latami 50-tymi i awangardowymi jazzowymi wykonawcami takimi jak Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor i Sun Ra. To Jazz Q. Drugi, który zdołał przetrwać polityczne burze i zawieje stał się jednym z najbardziej utytułowanych zespołów epoki z krajów Europy Wschodniej. Prowadzony przez wokalistę i znakomitego asa gitary Radima Hladíka zaczynał jako zespół blues rockowy, by z biegiem lat stać się ikoną czeskiego rocka progresywnego i jazz-fusion. Nazywał się BLUE EFFECT.

To był przełom września i października 1968 roku kiedy basista Jiří Kozel, wokalista Vladimír Mišík i perkusista Vlado Čech postanowili utworzyć blues rockowy zespół. Na gitarze miał grać kolega Kozela z grupy P-67, Petr Netopil. Przypadek sprawił, że w tym samym czasie Radim Hladik porzucił popularną formację Matadors i to on ostatecznie dołączył do tria Kozel-Mišík-Čech. Wymyślona przez Mišíka nazwa grupy, Special Blue Effect, rozpoczęła próby w praskim Nowym Klubie. Po raz pierwszy jako Blue Effect wystąpili pod koniec listopada w w Smíchovie, w tamtejszym Music F Club. Jan Křtitel Sýkora, wspaniały mag muzycznego dziennikarstwa z Czech, powitał ich na łamach magazynu „Pop Music Express” takimi oto słowami: „Nowa gwiazda zaświeciła nad beatowym Betlejem! Wszyscy spojrzeli w górę, pospieszyli ku niej i oddali jej cześć. A jasność jej była jasnoniebieska, więc postanowił nazwać ją Blue Effect”. Cóż, Czesi znani są z dobrego humoru, ale słowa Sýkory w pewnym stopniu były prorocze, bo już w grudniu triumfalny występ na II Muzycznym Festiwalu w Lucernie sprawił, że Blue Effect został ogłoszony odkryciem roku i zespołem sezonu, Radim Hladík muzykiem roku, a „Slunečný hrob”, pierwszy przebój grupy (wtedy jeszcze w angielskiej wersji jako „Sunny Grave”) piosenką sezonu. To utorowało im drogę do nagrania pierwszej małej płytki, która ukazała się dokładnie 1 lutego 1969 roku. Oprócz przeboju „Slunečný hrob” na stronie „B” znalazł się blues Muddy Watersa „I’ve Got My Mojo Working”. W pierwszym tygodniu singiel rozszedł się w niesamowitej ilości 12 tysięcy egzemplarzy; pół roku później liczba ta przekroczyła 50 tysięcy! Idąc za ciosem 19 kwietnia w praskim studio Mozarteum zrealizowali kilka nagrań z myślą o dużej płycie. Autorem angielskich tekstów byli Jiří Smetana i dr. Karel Kozel (ojciec basisty), a czeskie napisał Jaroslav Hutka. I tu na scenę wkroczyli cenzorzy, którzy nie zgadzali się ani z czeskimi tekstami (Hutka w tym czasie był na indeksie niechcianych artystów), ani z koncepcją artystyczną zespołu. Muzycy zostali zmuszeni do całkowitego przerobienia materiału. Z tej sesji uchowało się jedynie nagranie „Paměť Lásky”, które jako jedyne znalazło się na debiutanckim albumie „Meditace”, który tym razem nagrano w studiu Supraphonu, Dejvice w okresie od czerwca do sierpnia 1969 roku. Całość ukazała się rok później.

To cud, że w ówczesnej atmosferze zakazów i szalejącej, bolszewickiej cenzury płyta w ogóle wyszła. Zespołowi czkawką odbijały się jeszcze zastrzeżenia co do artystycznego stylu albumu, a już gorliwy cenzorzy czepili się ponownie – tym razem nie spodobała im się okładka zaprojektowana przez Alana Pajera. Zdjęcie kolorowo ubranych muzyków-hipisów zostało zastąpione fatalną, niebieską fotografią. Na domiar złego wydawca (Supraphon), by obniżyć koszty produkcji zrezygnował z otwieranej okładki, w środku której było sporo bardzo ciekawych fotek zespołu. Pajer próbował to wszystko zrekonstruować podczas reedycji płyty niespełna pięćdziesiąt lat później, ale materiały fotograficzne niestety przepadły.

Pamiętając, że Blue Effect na początku był zespołem blues rockowym można byłoby się spodziewać, że to ten gatunek zdominuje płytę. Oczywiście wpływy bluesa są, ale „Meditace” to eklektyczna mieszanka blues rocka, gitarowo-rockowych ballad, wczesnego psychodelicznego i symfonicznego rocka. Album jeszcze nie tak jazzowy jak ich późniejsze produkcje, ale błyszczy zarówno muzyczną formą, jak i tekstami, głównie filozoficznym myśleniem o różnych aspektach życia i śmierci śpiewane po czesku (gościnnie Lesek Semelka ) i angielsku (Vladimír Mišík). Nie mam nic przeciwko językowi czeskiemu, ale wydaje mi się, że piosenki śpiewane w języku Szekspira są bardziej genialne, mają większą energię i pasują do charakteru muzyki zespołu.

Melorecytacja i symfoniczne elementy w otwierającym płytę utworze „Paměť Lásky” bliższe są symfonicznemu prog rockowi, co w momencie nagrywania płyty było, przynajmniej w tej części Europy, pewnym novum. Ale jest rok 1969 i wpływy psychodelii (szczególnie tej amerykańskiej) słychać w hipisowskim „Blue Effect Street”. Warto zwrócić uwagę na grę Hladika w tym nagraniu, który w specyficzny sposób uderza w struny gitary; dekadę później będą tak grać metalowi wioślarze. Eklektyczny „Fenix” na pozór wydaje się rhythm and bluesowym numerem (dęte, specyficzny wokal) gdyby nie to, że w ciągu kilku sekund przechodzi od ciekawie zaczynającego się bluesa przez symfoniczne brzmienie do beatu. W tej prostej i na pozór banalnej melodii tkwi jakaś magia lat 60-tych, która zawsze mnie urzeka. Z kolei „Stroj na nic” to blues-rockowa piosenka ze świetną gitarą w tle pokazującą raz jeszcze fascynację zespołu amerykańską muzyką rockową. Jak na te czasy oznaczało to coś oryginalnego i było też aktem odwagi ze strony muzyków. Wszak grali muzykę zza Żelaznej Kurtyny tuż po represjach po „praskiej wiośnie”. Pierwszą stronę oryginalnej płyty kończy pięknie zagrana, w stylu średniowiecznego madrygału, instrumentalna, akustyczna wersja przeboju „Slunečný hrob” czym, przyznam szczerze, mile mnie zaskoczyli.

Drugą stronę rozpoczyna kapitalne „Děvčátko”. Być może dla wielu to tylko typowy numer bluesowy. Mnie urzeka tu fantastyczne, acidowe solo zagrane na flecie. I co ciekawe – gitara brzmi bardziej jazzowo niż blues rockowo. Psychodeliczną ucztę zespół serwuje w nagraniu „Osamělá Ulice”. W momencie, gdy melodia przechodzi przez akustyczne akordy, a brzmienie zbliża się w stronę The Moody Blues z odrobiną Hendrixa robi się bardziej progresywnie. Szkoda, że tak dobrze zapowiadający się utwór kończy się już po trzech minutach z sekundami. Mam niedosyt! Apetyt w pewnym stopniu zostaje zaspokojony kolejnym, tym razem ośmiominutowym numerem „Kamenné Blues”. Toczący się jak walec drogowy powolny, „standardowy” blues z pięknie wyeksponowanym basem grającym wystarczająco głośno, by wypełnić brak klawiszy. przywodzi mi na myśl Led Zeppelin z pierwszej płyty. Kiedy pierwszy raz słuchałem tej płyty pomyślałem sobie, że ten fenomenalny kawałek, od którego długo nie mogłem się potem uwolnić, powinien znaleźć się w repertuarze Led Zeppelin… „Deštivý Den” też jest bluesowy, ale i rockowy, z mocnym i czystym wokalem. Ta piosenka przewiduje niejako nadejście „Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble”, ale Uriah Heep pojawią się później. Płytę zamyka „Kde Je Má Hvězda”. To jeden z najbardziej progresywnych utworów na albumie i niesamowicie prekursorski. Solówka w środku to niemal klasyczny blues rock. Jednak ta piosenka zawiera pewne ślady eklektyzmu i eksperymentalizmu, które Blue Effect zastosuje później.

Towarzysze z Supraphonu zdecydowali później, że jeśli chłopcy zaśpiewają to po angielsku, płyta może sprzedawać się poza granicami w kraju (konkretnie w bratnich państwach Bloku Wschodniego). W tym celu trzeba było przekonwertować cztery kompozycje z czeskiego na angielski. Problem był taki, że tuż po nagraniu płyty z zespołem pożegnał się Mišík, a Lešek Semelka nie czuł się na siłach, by śpiewać po angielsku. Na szczęście ten pierwszy przyjął zaproszenie choć zaśpiewał tylko w jednym utworze. Nie wiadomo co stało się w studio bowiem pozostałe trzy zaśpiewał… Semelka, co na długie lata pogorszyły i tak napięte relacje zespołu z Mišíkiem. Po tych zawirowaniach album pod nazwą „Kingdom Of Life” został w końcu wydany wiosną 1971 roku.

Od strony muzycznej, poza tekstami zaśpiewanymi po angielsku i tytułami, które otrzymały takowe zamienniki, nic się tu nie zmieniło. Te ostatnie są nawet bardziej komunikatywne. I tak np. „Paměť Lásky” nazywa się tu „Kingdom Of Life”, „Děvčátko” to „Little Girl”, zaś „Deserted Alley „ brzmi lepiej niż „Osamělá Ulice”, a „Blues About Stone” od „Kamenné Blues”...

Kiedy „Kingdom Of Life” ukazał się na rynku Blue Effect wraz z grupą Jazz Q Praha kilka miesięcy wcześniej (grudzień 1970) wydał album „Coniuncto”. Postęp jaki uczynili był oszałamiający! Przejście od blues rocka do totalnie szalonego, swobodnego jazzu jest wręcz niewiarygodna. Odtąd, aż do końca swej działalności, nie przestali się rozwijać. Nie oglądając się za siebie, szturmowali dalej i dalej. Nie mniej „Meditace” był początkiem ich wspaniałej podróży. Podróży do wielkości i geniuszu.

Certainly not just Blues, even I have to agree that there are influences of this genre. After all, this band started like Blues band, doing also some covers of USA Blues bands.
However, Meditace (Meditation) is very mature release. Even still not so Jazz as their later albums, this album shines both in music form and lyrics (mostly philosophical thinking about various aspects of life and death). There is strong Symphonic inspiration, but in Czech style, which means that you can have symphonic melody with trumpets playing + harmonica here and there. It's possibility, because it was simply the way how things were made here. Blue Effect were trying to keep their heads above rising water of "normalization" (bans on bands, oppression on free-thinking and anti-socialistic ideas, such as English names / lyrics).

Meditace hits me emotionally, it's first hand confession about times, when it still was quite good (considering what will came in 70s, so they had to move to Jazz later). Stroj na nic (Machine for nothing) is - you guess - about machine that does nothing, but everyone admires it. I sense ironic double meaning. It's more Rock song, but it has its better Prog moments too, especially it shows how great Czech guitar virtuoso Radim Hladík can play. Even there are other songs/albums where he can do better.

However, some songs are simply unable to abandon blues basis completely and this, from Prog point of view, prevents it from reaching higher ratings. On the other hand, there is plethora of ideas, really original ideas made from both desperation and from need to create. Lineup on this album is full of people who will become either masters of their genres (lyricists, guitarists) or simply very respected musicians.

Blue Effect (potem Modry Efekt) to chyba najlepsza czeska grupa - ze świetnym, by nie powiedzieć obłędnym gitarzystą Radimem Hladikiem. Ten wybitny, progresywny album bez wątpienia należy do PIERWSZEJ PIĄTKI ROCKA z Bloku Wschodniego! Nagrany w 1969 i 1970 winyl "Kingdom Of Life" przygotowany został z myślą o sprzedaży na rynek krajów Bloku Wschodniego. Tak naprawdę był to debiutancki LP "Meditace" (1970), z tą różnicą, że cztery kawałki z pierwszej strony zaśpiewane oryginalnie po czesku (umieszczone w bonusach - obok 6 nagrań z singli) zostały zastąpione angielskimi słowami nowego wokalisty i alternatywną okładką. Połączenie stylistyki Jethro Tull, Ten Years After, Led Zeppelin i The Moody Blues. Dlaczego u nas nie nagrywano takich płyt?!? Na tym 80-minutowym CD umieszczono wszystkie nagrania z wczesnego psych-progresywnego okresu twórczości zespołu, a który już w 1970 roku poszedł w nieco bardziej jazzowe, równie ekscytujące rejony.

W Czechosłowacji, a konkretnie w Pradze, w latach 60-tych powstały dwa wielkie zespoły. Pierwszy, inspirował się głównie późnymi latami 50-tymi i awangardowymi jazzowymi wykonawcami takimi jak Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor i Sun Ra. To Jazz Q. Drugi, który zdołał przetrwać polityczne burze i zawieje stał się jednym z najbardziej utytułowanych zespołów epoki z krajów Europy Wschodniej. Prowadzony przez wokalistę i znakomitego asa gitary Radima Hladíka zaczynał jako zespół blues rockowy, by z biegiem lat stać się ikoną czeskiego rocka progresywnego i jazz-fusion. Nazywał się BLUE EFFECT.

To był przełom września i października 1968 roku kiedy basista Jiří Kozel, wokalista Vladimír Mišík i perkusista Vlado Čech postanowili utworzyć blues rockowy zespół. Na gitarze miał grać kolega Kozela z grupy P-67, Petr Netopil. Przypadek sprawił, że w tym samym czasie Radim Hladik porzucił popularną formację Matadors i to on ostatecznie dołączył do tria Kozel-Mišík-Čech. Wymyślona przez Mišíka nazwa grupy, Special Blue Effect, rozpoczęła próby w praskim Nowym Klubie. Po raz pierwszy jako Blue Effect wystąpili pod koniec listopada w w Smíchovie, w tamtejszym Music F Club. Jan Křtitel Sýkora, wspaniały mag muzycznego dziennikarstwa z Czech, powitał ich na łamach magazynu „Pop Music Express” takimi oto słowami: „Nowa gwiazda zaświeciła nad beatowym Betlejem! Wszyscy spojrzeli w górę, pospieszyli ku niej i oddali jej cześć. A jasność jej była jasnoniebieska, więc postanowił nazwać ją Blue Effect”. Cóż, Czesi znani są z dobrego humoru, ale słowa Sýkory w pewnym stopniu były prorocze, bo już w grudniu triumfalny występ na II Muzycznym Festiwalu w Lucernie sprawił, że Blue Effect został ogłoszony odkryciem roku i zespołem sezonu, Radim Hladík muzykiem roku, a „Slunečný hrob”, pierwszy przebój grupy (wtedy jeszcze w angielskiej wersji jako „Sunny Grave”) piosenką sezonu. To utorowało im drogę do nagrania pierwszej małej płytki, która ukazała się dokładnie 1 lutego 1969 roku. Oprócz przeboju „Slunečný hrob” na stronie „B” znalazł się blues Muddy Watersa „I’ve Got My Mojo Working”. W pierwszym tygodniu singiel rozszedł się w niesamowitej ilości 12 tysięcy egzemplarzy; pół roku później liczba ta przekroczyła 50 tysięcy! Idąc za ciosem 19 kwietnia w praskim studio Mozarteum zrealizowali kilka nagrań z myślą o dużej płycie. Autorem angielskich tekstów byli Jiří Smetana i dr. Karel Kozel (ojciec basisty), a czeskie napisał Jaroslav Hutka. I tu na scenę wkroczyli cenzorzy, którzy nie zgadzali się ani z czeskimi tekstami (Hutka w tym czasie był na indeksie niechcianych artystów), ani z koncepcją artystyczną zespołu. Muzycy zostali zmuszeni do całkowitego przerobienia materiału. Z tej sesji uchowało się jedynie nagranie „Paměť Lásky”, które jako jedyne znalazło się na debiutanckim albumie „Meditace”, który tym razem nagrano w studiu Supraphonu, Dejvice w okresie od czerwca do sierpnia 1969 roku. Całość ukazała się rok później.

To cud, że w ówczesnej atmosferze zakazów i szalejącej, bolszewickiej cenzury płyta w ogóle wyszła. Zespołowi czkawką odbijały się jeszcze zastrzeżenia co do artystycznego stylu albumu, a już gorliwy cenzorzy czepili się ponownie – tym razem nie spodobała im się okładka zaprojektowana przez Alana Pajera. Zdjęcie kolorowo ubranych muzyków-hipisów zostało zastąpione fatalną, niebieską fotografią. Na domiar złego wydawca (Supraphon), by obniżyć koszty produkcji zrezygnował z otwieranej okładki, w środku której było sporo bardzo ciekawych fotek zespołu. Pajer próbował to wszystko zrekonstruować podczas reedycji płyty niespełna pięćdziesiąt lat później, ale materiały fotograficzne niestety przepadły.

Pamiętając, że Blue Effect na początku był zespołem blues rockowym można byłoby się spodziewać, że to ten gatunek zdominuje płytę. Oczywiście wpływy bluesa są, ale „Meditace” to eklektyczna mieszanka blues rocka, gitarowo-rockowych ballad, wczesnego psychodelicznego i symfonicznego rocka. Album jeszcze nie tak jazzowy jak ich późniejsze produkcje, ale błyszczy zarówno muzyczną formą, jak i tekstami, głównie filozoficznym myśleniem o różnych aspektach życia i śmierci śpiewane po czesku (gościnnie Lesek Semelka ) i angielsku (Vladimír Mišík). Nie mam nic przeciwko językowi czeskiemu, ale wydaje mi się, że piosenki śpiewane w języku Szekspira są bardziej genialne, mają większą energię i pasują do charakteru muzyki zespołu.

Melorecytacja i symfoniczne elementy w otwierającym płytę utworze „Paměť Lásky” bliższe są symfonicznemu prog rockowi, co w momencie nagrywania płyty było, przynajmniej w tej części Europy, pewnym novum. Ale jest rok 1969 i wpływy psychodelii (szczególnie tej amerykańskiej) słychać w hipisowskim „Blue Effect Street”. Warto zwrócić uwagę na grę Hladika w tym nagraniu, który w specyficzny sposób uderza w struny gitary; dekadę później będą tak grać metalowi wioślarze. Eklektyczny „Fenix” na pozór wydaje się rhythm and bluesowym numerem (dęte, specyficzny wokal) gdyby nie to, że w ciągu kilku sekund przechodzi od ciekawie zaczynającego się bluesa przez symfoniczne brzmienie do beatu. W tej prostej i na pozór banalnej melodii tkwi jakaś magia lat 60-tych, która zawsze mnie urzeka. Z kolei „Stroj na nic” to blues-rockowa piosenka ze świetną gitarą w tle pokazującą raz jeszcze fascynację zespołu amerykańską muzyką rockową. Jak na te czasy oznaczało to coś oryginalnego i było też aktem odwagi ze strony muzyków. Wszak grali muzykę zza Żelaznej Kurtyny tuż po represjach po „praskiej wiośnie”. Pierwszą stronę oryginalnej płyty kończy pięknie zagrana, w stylu średniowiecznego madrygału, instrumentalna, akustyczna wersja przeboju „Slunečný hrob” czym, przyznam szczerze, mile mnie zaskoczyli.

Drugą stronę rozpoczyna kapitalne „Děvčátko”. Być może dla wielu to tylko typowy numer bluesowy. Mnie urzeka tu fantastyczne, acidowe solo zagrane na flecie. I co ciekawe – gitara brzmi bardziej jazzowo niż blues rockowo. Psychodeliczną ucztę zespół serwuje w nagraniu „Osamělá Ulice”. W momencie, gdy melodia przechodzi przez akustyczne akordy, a brzmienie zbliża się w stronę The Moody Blues z odrobiną Hendrixa robi się bardziej progresywnie. Szkoda, że tak dobrze zapowiadający się utwór kończy się już po trzech minutach z sekundami. Mam niedosyt! Apetyt w pewnym stopniu zostaje zaspokojony kolejnym, tym razem ośmiominutowym numerem „Kamenné Blues”. Toczący się jak walec drogowy powolny, „standardowy” blues z pięknie wyeksponowanym basem grającym wystarczająco głośno, by wypełnić brak klawiszy. przywodzi mi na myśl Led Zeppelin z pierwszej płyty. Kiedy pierwszy raz słuchałem tej płyty pomyślałem sobie, że ten fenomenalny kawałek, od którego długo nie mogłem się potem uwolnić, powinien znaleźć się w repertuarze Led Zeppelin… „Deštivý Den” też jest bluesowy, ale i rockowy, z mocnym i czystym wokalem. Ta piosenka przewiduje niejako nadejście „Very 'Eavy Very 'Umble”, ale Uriah Heep pojawią się później. Płytę zamyka „Kde Je Má Hvězda”. To jeden z najbardziej progresywnych utworów na albumie i niesamowicie prekursorski. Solówka w środku to niemal klasyczny blues rock. Jednak ta piosenka zawiera pewne ślady eklektyzmu i eksperymentalizmu, które Blue Effect zastosuje później.

Towarzysze z Supraphonu zdecydowali później, że jeśli chłopcy zaśpiewają to po angielsku, płyta może sprzedawać się poza granicami w kraju (konkretnie w bratnich państwach Bloku Wschodniego). W tym celu trzeba było przekonwertować cztery kompozycje z czeskiego na angielski.
