I can usually tell of I am going to like or dislike an album after a few moments. A few skips from track to track, hear the vocals, the production etc. I can get a general idea pretty quick. Sure, there are anomalies, growers, late bloomers and stuff I’m just not feeling at that time in my life I might appreciate later.

Thus was the case of Germany’s veteran death metal act Discreation, whom I was not familiar with despite existing since 2001 and having three previous albums under their belt. It’s a classic example of a band that left a pretty ‘meh’ initial impression from the album’s first few tracks, but as other tracks from the album’s second half randomly popped up on my ipod, the band warranted further investigation and in the end I ended up really enjoying the band’s no frills take on death metal.

Immediate comparisons are clearly Vader, largely due to the vocals of Kai Müller-Lenz, which have a authoritative gruff, but clear bellow akin to Piotr Wiwczarek. The music has some similarities as well being thrashy, burly and percussively dominant but with just a shade of clever melody and restraint, which imbues a bit of Hypocrisy. One could also look to label mates Weak Aside for similar delivery, though not as war mongering or simplistic.

Either way, there’s a handful of tracks on Procreation of the Wretched that bring the pain, especially in the later two thirds of the material, where things seem to get in to more of a stern groove and march, as opposed to sheer blasting. After the album’s first two rather forgetful tracks, “Planetary Punishment” and “Descending to Abysmal Darkness”, things start to pick up about halfway through “Megacorpse”, signalling the improvement in the album. Then the fucking beefy trundle of the title track really gets things going and it’s ON for the rest of the album as each of the following 6 tracks just seems more confident, destructive and memorable, and thusly the whole album becomes so as well.

Don’t get me wrong, like the bands I’ve mentioned as comparisons, this isn’t changing death metal , but it sure does everything pretty well perfectly within the paradigms so staunchly championed in the 90s. No techy noodling, no sweeps, no intellectual prose, just bludgeoning double bass backed beefy riffs and lyrics about war, fire, skulls and destruction and all that other negative shit that death metal extolled in its formative years. The likes of “To Cosmic Shores”, steam train chug of “Decapitation Marathon” and the moody pummeling of closer “Dead Certainties” is just the very epitome of what death metal was and should be. No frills, no gimmicks. Just… Death. Fucking. Metal.

One of the darkest albums of the German Death Metal Underground is finally being repressed: ‘O Agios Pethane’ by BLOOD, which is THE reference value from 1993. This hybrid of Death Metal and Grind, combined with a little Thrash Metal and Punk is a benchmark of brutal music: a twisted mood, neck-twisting blast passages, sick bass-solos and bellowing vocals are mixed into one single dark brew – an album that deserves its credit as a legend.

BLOOD is the oldest German Grind band (since 1986!), and amongst acts such as NAPALM DEATH, EXTREME NOISE TERROR and AGATHOCLES one of the oldest bands still in the game! BLOOD never sold their ideals and their soul – this you can experience listening to ‘O Agios Pethane’!



Somewhere beyond the disgusting lyrical content of Carcass and the punk extremity of Napalm Death lies Blood. Blood spew out grindcore that lies firmly on the death metal styled side of the genre which plays down the punk influences as much as possible. The result is an album of what are essentially short, simple death metal songs, which surprisingly enough ooze atmosphere. The production is heavy on the bass, but the guitars and drums come through perfectly clearly as do the vocals. What we have here is the right amount of dirt and grit chucked into the mixer for it to satisfy grind fanatics but enough quality to cover all the basses so that all the layers of the music still come through.

A typical song is made up of three or four riffs that are arranged and delivered in such as way as to create an epic in the space of two minutes or so. Occasionally the music collapses into what seems like total chaos only to be brought out into a more structured and ordered passage; a trick that many older grindcore bands use. When one listens to more traditional grindcore one is very much aware that the song length is often times less than a minute, this is not the case with Blood; they manage to accomplish in these micro songs what most could not do with five minutes of music. Tempo changes interact so well with the riffcraft that even the anti-minimalist listener will not be alienated by this sound. Riffs are mostly of the death metal variety, but there are some that could be found on a thrash album, if thrash were played by the cast of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Guitar solos are simple and have the same contorted quality found on Carcass’ debut that made them sound like they were being turned inside out and serve to add or detract from the chaos when needed.

Vocals vary from a unique low end death growl from the very back of the throat to the occasional demonic high end scream to add emphasis and variation saving the music from monotony. One cannot talk about this album with mentioning the lyrics however. This is certainly an occasion when being at least aware of the themes explored here really does add to the horror of the listening experience. The lyrics are twisted beyond belief. This is not done through the use of the same pornographic ejaculations to be found on every dime a dozen gore grind band ever since Carcass however. The lyrics tell tales of twisted horror and human decay but in a less literal sense than most of Blood’s peers, playing on our darkest fantasies and horrors.

From all this one is presented with an album where all the elements are simple but the end result is more than the sum of these parts. In short this is a no thrills affair; the album is switched on and for half an hour Blood show you the depraved horrors of humanity’s underbelly where most fear to tread and then the album ends. I highly recommend this to all who are as yet unconverted to grindcore as I believe that this release is unique and powerful enough to hold your attention.

Spoglądając na front płyty Lord of Demise, w pierwszej chwili pomyślałem, że trafił w moje ręce album jakichś metalcore’owych/deathcore’owych pogrobowców, którzy swoimi protest songami postanowili wyrazić sprzeciw wobec systemu światowego ucisku.

Old Mother Hell to stosunkowo młoda, niemiecka ekipa heavy metalowa, która po 3 latach od wydania debiutu postanowiła uraczyć słuchaczy swoim drugim długograjem. Na nim 8 premierowych kompozycji, stanowiących zbiór poprawnych, bardzo chwytliwych kawałków, do potupania kończyną i pomachania odcinkiem szyjnym kręgosłupa.

Istotne w przypadku Lord of Demise jest odpowiednie wyważenie składowych, z których wszystkie (epic heavy, doom oraz power metal) odgrywają istotną, choć nie dominującą rolę. Dzięki temu album Old Mother Hell cechuje się różnorodnością, a każdy z utworów prezentuje nieco odmienną twarz zespołu. I tak np. w Betrayal at the Sea, Edge of Time i Shadows Within Niemcy serwują podszyte epickim klimatem, heavy metalowe galopady. W Avenging Angel przechodzą płynnie do heavy/power metalu, by po chwili, w Lord of Demise i Another Fallen Saviour, pokłonić się w pas ojcom doom metalu z Candlemass. Zapytacie, a co z balladami? Proszę bardzo, z pomocą zdążają Estranged i Finally Free. Przyznać trzeba, że to sporo, jak na niespełna 39 minut materiału.

Co nie mniej ważne, zespół na każdym ze wspomnianych gruntów porusza się dość zgrabnie i swobodnie. Wprawdzie zdarzają się Niemcom potknięcia (niskie wokale nie są mocną stroną Bernda Wenera, miejscami nieco pozbawione tła są też partie gitary, wyraźnie proszące się o wsparcie wiosła rytmicznego), jednak wspomniane mankamenty nie determinują odbioru Lord of Demise. Ratują tę płytę ciekawe i bardzo przyjemne numery oraz lekkość i naturalność, która w muzyce Old Mother Hell jest wyraźnie wyczuwalna.

Dobra propozycja na nadchodzącą wiosnę.

I checked this band out a few years back because they were on Cruz del Sur and got compared to Tad Morose in the press release I read, and those two things were enough for me. Now we have their second album Lord of Demise. This is heavy metal with a definite stripe of doom in the songwriting, and the band just sort of plays this shit with gusto and heart, without really any gimmicks like other bands have.

I’m not even sure who to compare this to. It’s the sort of heavy/doom blend of bands like Argus or Doomsword, but this is much more pugilistic than either of those bands, tending toward shorter, punchier tunes. Like Tad Morose they have a base of crunchy riffs and an arcane mood with sonorous, soaring vocals overtop. And some sections when they do more upbeat parts have a Maiden vibe. But really Old Mother Hell is its own thing, powering out with bold, brassy riffs, marching tempos and the killer vocals of Bernd Wener, who just bellows these vocal lines out with a fuckload of conviction.

This stuff is relentlessly straightforward and just focuses on rocking the fuck out, so there’s not a whole lot to really analyze except the quality of the songs within. They just write cool songs – the opener “Betrayal at the Sea” comes at you hard, and “Avenging Angel” is an album standout with a monster hook and a barrage of rocking riffs. Wener knows how to belt out a great chorus line and just sells it well, giving you exactly what you need. The title track, too, likely won’t leave your head once that chorus kicks in. And “Edge of Time” is probably the album’s best tune with a haunting melody and a giant epic chorus. These kinds of songs show how goddamn good this band can be, and even if the others aren’t quite as strong, there are no weak points.

The production is very rustic sounding, very organic. I wonder how they’d sound with a more polished production, but maybe that would ruin the vibe. As is, it sounds like they’re playing live right in front of you, so that’s cool. I do wish they’d lean more on the crunchy trad metal side of the sound rather than the doomy parts, but at the same time tracks like the crushing “Another Fallen Savior” and somber closer “Finally Free” do have enough gravitas to keep you interested. It’s just that when you have a song like “Avenging Angel” you end up wanting more in that mode.

Even the lyrics are good – they’re simple but well-written and spin tales of violence and bloodlust and revenge and shit. Just solid. This album feels like a band that is about to break big and release something truly first rate. But Lord of Demise is already very cool. If you’re into badass, no bullshit heavy metal then give this a shot.

Po ponad trzech dekadach od oryginalnej premiery warszawski death/thrash'owy SPARAGMOS prezentuje długo wyczekiwane wznowienie drugiego studyjnego albumu "Error".

Płyta, która pierwotnie została wydana w 1994 roku wyłącznie na kasecie magnetofonowej nakładem Metal Mind Productions w końcu zyskuje godne XXI wieku wydanie – po raz pierwszy na CD i LP w zremasterowanej wersji. Mastering materiału przeprowadził w 2026 roku Filip Heinrich Hałucha w Heinrich House Studio, nadając klasycznym nagraniom z 1993/1994 roku nowe, znacznie bardziej klarowne i dynamiczne brzmienie, przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu surowej, organicznej duszy lat 90. Wznowienie "Error" to nie tylko nostalgiczna podróż, to szansa, by materiał, który w latach '90 był niedoceniony i trudno dostępny w związku ze schyłkiem nośnika jakim była kaseta, w końcu zabrzmiał tak, jak zawsze powinien – głośno, wyraźnie i bezkompromisowo.

"Error" już w momencie premiery uchodził za jedno z najbardziej odważnych i progresywnych wydawnictw na polskiej (i nie tylko) scenie ekstremalnego metalu. Eklektyczne połączenie death metalu, thrashu, technicznych zagrywek, powerowych refrenów, rozbudowanej melodii i eksperymentalnych struktur wyprzedzało ówczesne standardy gatunku. Recenzenci często porównywali album do kultowego Spheres holenderskiego Pestilence.

SPARAGMOS powstał w 1989 roku w Warszawie z inicjatywy gitarzysty Sebastiana Zusina, wokalisty i gitarzysty Łukasza Myszkowskiego oraz perkusisty Artura Grudzińskiego. Ten ostatni wkrótce opuścił formację. Jego miejsce zajął Tomasz Marecki, a w charakterze basisty dołączył Andrzej Rudnicki. Jako kwartet muzycy zarejestrowali debiutanckę demówkę, zatytułowaną "Mortal Organic Remains", która ukazała się w 1990 roku sumptem grupy. W lutym 1992 roku kwartet wszedł do stołecznego studia Power Play, aby zarejestrować materiał na swój pierwszy album "Invitation From Host Of Wrath". Zespół zaczął też pracę nad drugim longplayem, zatytułowanym "Error". Materiał nagrany został z nowym perkusistą Krzysztofem Bentkowskim. Zespół funkcjonował do 2002 roku. Jego ostatni album "Conflict" pochodzi z 1999 roku.

Wznowienie Error ukaże się 27 marca 2026 r. na CD oraz LTD CD (limit 100 sztuk, wzbogacona o unikalny element – drukowane w technologii 3D bakteriofagi, mające na nowo zarazić klimatem polskiego death metalu lat 90. i podkreślić wyjątkowość tego wydawnictwa) nakładem Selfmadegod Records. Premiera LP planowana jest na wiosnę/lato 2026.



Sparagmos’a pamiętam przez pryzmat ich splitu z Lastwar i charakterystycznie wydanej kasety, która w tej chwili wala się w jakimś kartonie z innymi taśmami, w piwnicy moich rodziców. Tak naprawdę zupełnie nie mogłem sobie przypomnieć, jak leciała ich muza, bo w tamtych latach specjalnego wrażenia na mnie nie zrobili, a poza tym chyba za bardzo nie mogli wtedy konkurować z kapelami, których nagrania docierały do Polski z Zachodu. Tak więc reedycja ich drugiej płyty, która pierwotnie ukazała się tylko na kasecie w 1994 roku, szybko naświetliła sprawę i stała się całkiem miłą przypominajką czasów minionych. Nie będę ściemniał i świrował na znawcę ówczesnej sceny w naszym kraju, bo poza kilkoma szyldami, które miały w tamtych latach znaczenie, to miałem ją w dupie, ale poczytałem trochę i dowiedziałem się, że po składance z zespołem z Wągrowca, Sparagmos urósł do eksperymentatorów na naszej, death metalowej scenie. Po przesłuchaniu obecnego „Error”, któremu mastering nadał dynamiczniejszego brzmienia, lecz nie zburzył jego analogowości, muszę wszelkim źródłom przyznać rację, ponieważ Warszawiacy mocno kombinowali, aby wyjść poza ramy tego, co w pierwszej połowie lat dziewięćdziesiątych królowało w metalu śmierci. Robili to, korzystając z wielu wzorców, bo na „Error” wyraźnie słychać łączenie thrash i death metalu z progresywnymi zagrywkami, co kreowało chwilami dość połamane aranżacje. Panowie pełnymi garściami czerpali z dokonań takich tuzów jak Morbid Angel i Slayer, ale poza tymi, gwałtownymi akordami, które wyraźnie zalatywały Amerykańcami, potrafili wpleść w swoje kompozycje, sporo zabiegów kojarzących się z „Forest of Equilibrium” Cathedral czy „Shades of God” Paradise Lost. Zatem nie był to zwyczajny thrash-death metal z technicznymi zawijasami, ale przede wszystkim eklektyczna, ciężka muza, która nie bała się łączenia różnych ujęć z dodatkiem nieoczywistych, awangardowych wtrętów. Ponowne wydanie tego materiału przez Selfmadegod Records, to dobre posunięcie i przypomnienie krążka, który jak i Sparagmos nie do końca został doceniony. Może poprzez fuzję wyżej wymienionych elementów, która okresowo pobrzmiewała również tradycyjnym, brytyjskim death metalem oraz małymi odjazdami w kierunku Type O Negative, była zbyt nieliniowa i w związku z tym irytująca. Nie wiem, ale niewątpliwie kwartet ten, nie chciał się zatrzymać na jednym, utartym wzorcu. Czy fani w 1994 roku nie byli gotowi na „Error”, czy Sparagmos przez chęć bycia za wszelką cenę oryginalnym, pogrzebał się sam. Teraz, z perspektywy trzydziestu dwóch lat i w konfrontacji, z niektórymi, obecnymi, muzycznymi wykwitami, odpowiedź powinna być łatwa. Jeśli nie znacie, to sięgnijcie po tą produkcję, gdyż warto.

Po „Invitation From The Host Of Wrath” Sparagmos był już znanym polskim zespołem metalowym, a debiut w barwach Metal Mind nie przeszedł bez echa. Jednak to wydany w 1994 roku „Error” był tym albumem, który ukształtował pewien rozpoznawalny styl tej grupy i przyniósł jej największy rozgłos. W jego nagraniu wziął już udział nowy perkusista. Tomasza Mareckiego zastąpił Krzysztof Bentkowski.

Nie mam wątpliwości, że ta płyta jest dojrzalsza, bogatsza i po prostu lepsza od poprzedniej. Muzyka to thrash/death metal o niepopularnym jeszcze wówczas grooveowym posmaku. Specyficzne niskie brzmienie, solidnie doprawione basem i podobna barwa wokalu, uczyniły ze Sparagmos zespół oryginalny na rodzimej scenie, a mnogość rozwiązań pozwala spojrzeć na „Error” jako na album ciekawy i zrobiony z pomysłem

Przede wszystkim jest tu kilka wyróżniających się wokalnie utworów. „Under My Skin”, „Behind The Wheel”, „Vanity Pride” czy „Until Death Do Us Apart” są przebojowe i mają melodyjne i chwytliwe refreny. Szczególnie ten ostatni wpada w ucho: „Nobody shall hear your paying, another heart filled with desire.” Na pewno te utwory stanowią o wyrazistości płyty i nadają jej kolorytu, ale Sparagmos ma też do zaoferowania inne, bardziej techniczne i wręcz trochę psychodeliczne atrakcje. W „Drilling” i zaczynającym się perkusyjną solówką „Misery”, ciężkie fragmenty przeplecione są z bardziej rozlazłym graniem i paranoicznymi wokalami. Takim odchyłem jest też „Rapology”, któremu do rapu może i bardzo daleko, ale jednak wokal występującego gościnnie Piotra Sterbickiego sporo odbiega od reszty w stronę bardziej takiego mówienia. Z kolei „Do It Alive” jest mocnym uderzeniem w przeciwieństwie do wolnego i bardziej spokojnego „Nobody”. Wszystko kończy króciutki zgrzyt symbolizujący tytuł całości.

Tak więc na „Error” dzieje się sporo i z pewnością jest to płyta zasługująca na uznanie. Zespołowi jednak nie udało się rozwijać swojego stylu i w następnych krokach zaczęli kombinować w innych kierunkach.

Released oryginally in 1994 on tape only Error is finally receiving a 21st-century edition worthy of its legacy, for the first time on CD and LP, newly remastered. The album was mastered in 2026 by Filip Heinrich Hałucha at Heinrich House Studio, giving the classic 1993/1994 recordings a fresh, significantly clearer and more dynamic sound, while preserving the raw, organic spirit of the ’90s.

The reissue of Error is not merely a nostalgic journey — it is an opportunity for an album that was overlooked in the 1990s and difficult to buy due to the decline of the cassette format to finally be heard the way it was always meant to sound: loud, clear, and uncompromising.

At the time of its original release, Error was already regarded as one of the boldest and most progressive records on the Polish — and beyond — extreme metal scene. Its eclectic fusion of death metal, thrash, technical precision, power-driven choruses, expansive melodies, and experimental song structures pushed far beyond the genre’s standards of the era.

Critics frequently drew comparisons between the album and the cult classic Spheres by Dutch legends Pestilence, highlighting its forward-thinking approach and uncompromising artistic vision.

SPARAGMOS was formed in 1989 in Warsaw on the initiative of guitarist Sebastian Zusin, vocalist and guitarist Łukasz Myszkowski, and drummer Artur Grudziński. The latter soon left the band. His place was taken by Tomasz Marecki, and bassist Andrzej Rudnicki also joined the lineup. Po ponad trzech dekadach od oryginalnej premiery warszawski death/thrash'owy SPARAGMOS prezentuje długo wyczekiwane wznowienie drugiego studyjnego albumu "Error".

Płyta, która pierwotnie została wydana w 1994 roku wyłącznie na kasecie magnetofonowej nakładem Metal Mind Productions w końcu zyskuje godne XXI wieku wydanie – po raz pierwszy na CD i LP w zremasterowanej wersji. Mastering materiału przeprowadził w 2026 roku Filip Heinrich Hałucha w Heinrich House Studio, nadając klasycznym nagraniom z 1993/1994 roku nowe, znacznie bardziej klarowne i dynamiczne brzmienie, przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu surowej, organicznej duszy lat 90. Wznowienie "Error" to nie tylko nostalgiczna podróż, to szansa, by materiał, który w latach '90 był niedoceniony i trudno dostępny w związku ze schyłkiem nośnika jakim była kaseta, w końcu zabrzmiał tak, jak zawsze powinien – głośno, wyraźnie i bezkompromisowo.

"Error" już w momencie premiery uchodził za jedno z najbardziej odważnych i progresywnych wydawnictw na polskiej (i nie tylko) scenie ekstremalnego metalu. Eklektyczne połączenie death metalu, thrashu, technicznych zagrywek, powerowych refrenów, rozbudowanej melodii i eksperymentalnych struktur wyprzedzało ówczesne standardy gatunku. Recenzenci często porównywali album do kultowego Spheres holenderskiego Pestilence.

SPARAGMOS powstał w 1989 roku w Warszawie z inicjatywy gitarzysty Sebastiana Zusina, wokalisty i gitarzysty Łukasza Myszkowskiego oraz perkusisty Artura Grudzińskiego. Ten ostatni wkrótce opuścił formację. Jego miejsce zajął Tomasz Marecki, a w charakterze basisty dołączył Andrzej Rudnicki. Jako kwartet muzycy zarejestrowali debiutanckę demówkę, zatytułowaną "Mortal Organic Remains", która ukazała się w 1990 roku sumptem grupy. W lutym 1992 roku kwartet wszedł do stołecznego studia Power Play, aby zarejestrować materiał na swój pierwszy album "Invitation From Host Of Wrath". Zespół zaczął też pracę nad drugim longplayem, zatytułowanym "Error". Materiał nagrany został z nowym perkusistą Krzysztofem Bentkowskim. Zespół funkcjonował do 2002 roku. Jego ostatni album "Conflict" pochodzi z 1999 roku.

Wznowienie Error ukaże się 27 marca 2026 r. na CD oraz LTD CD (limit 100 sztuk, wzbogacona o unikalny element – drukowane w technologii 3D bakteriofagi, mające na nowo zarazić klimatem polskiego death metalu lat 90. i podkreślić wyjątkowość tego wydawnictwa) nakładem Selfmadegod Records. Premiera LP planowana jest na wiosnę/lato 2026.



Sparagmos’a pamiętam przez pryzmat ich splitu z Lastwar i charakterystycznie wydanej kasety, która w tej chwili wala się w jakimś kartonie z innymi taśmami, w piwnicy moich rodziców. Tak naprawdę zupełnie nie mogłem sobie przypomnieć, jak leciała ich muza, bo w tamtych latach specjalnego wrażenia na mnie nie zrobili, a poza tym chyba za bardzo nie mogli wtedy konkurować z kapelami, których nagrania docierały do Polski z Zachodu. Tak więc reedycja ich drugiej płyty, która pierwotnie ukazała się tylko na kasecie w 1994 roku, szybko naświetliła sprawę i stała się całkiem miłą przypominajką czasów minionych. Nie będę ściemniał i świrował na znawcę ówczesnej sceny w naszym kraju, bo poza kilkoma szyldami, które miały w tamtych latach znaczenie, to miałem ją w dupie, ale poczytałem trochę i dowiedziałem się, że po składance z zespołem z Wągrowca, Sparagmos urósł do eksperymentatorów na naszej, death metalowej scenie. Po przesłuchaniu obecnego „Error”, któremu mastering nadał dynamiczniejszego brzmienia, lecz nie zburzył jego analogowości, muszę wszelkim źródłom przyznać rację, ponieważ Warszawiacy mocno kombinowali, aby wyjść poza ramy tego, co w pierwszej połowie lat dziewięćdziesiątych królowało w metalu śmierci. Robili to, korzystając z wielu wzorców, bo na „Error” wyraźnie słychać łączenie thrash i death metalu z progresywnymi zagrywkami, co kreowało chwilami dość połamane aranżacje. Panowie pełnymi garściami czerpali z dokonań takich tuzów jak Morbid Angel i Slayer, ale poza tymi, gwałtownymi akordami, które wyraźnie zalatywały Amerykańcami, potrafili wpleść w swoje kompozycje, sporo zabiegów kojarzących się z „Forest of Equilibrium” Cathedral czy „Shades of God” Paradise Lost. Zatem nie był to zwyczajny thrash-death metal z technicznymi zawijasami, ale przede wszystkim eklektyczna, ciężka muza, która nie bała się łączenia różnych ujęć z dodatkiem nieoczywistych, awangardowych wtrętów. Ponowne wydanie tego materiału przez Selfmadegod Records, to dobre posunięcie i przypomnienie krążka, który jak i Sparagmos nie do końca został doceniony. Może poprzez fuzję wyżej wymienionych elementów, która okresowo pobrzmiewała również tradycyjnym, brytyjskim death metalem oraz małymi odjazdami w kierunku Type O Negative, była zbyt nieliniowa i w związku z tym irytująca. Nie wiem, ale niewątpliwie kwartet ten, nie chciał się zatrzymać na jednym, utartym wzorcu. Czy fani w 1994 roku nie byli gotowi na „Error”, czy Sparagmos przez chęć bycia za wszelką cenę oryginalnym, pogrzebał się sam. Teraz, z perspektywy trzydziestu dwóch lat i w konfrontacji, z niektórymi, obecnymi, muzycznymi wykwitami, odpowiedź powinna być łatwa. Jeśli nie znacie, to sięgnijcie po tą produkcję, gdyż warto.

Po „Invitation From The Host Of Wrath” Sparagmos był już znanym polskim zespołem metalowym, a debiut w barwach Metal Mind nie przeszedł bez echa. Jednak to wydany w 1994 roku „Error” był tym albumem, który ukształtował pewien rozpoznawalny styl tej grupy i przyniósł jej największy rozgłos. W jego nagraniu wziął już udział nowy perkusista. Tomasza Mareckiego zastąpił Krzysztof Bentkowski.

Nie mam wątpliwości, że ta płyta jest dojrzalsza, bogatsza i po prostu lepsza od poprzedniej. Muzyka to thrash/death metal o niepopularnym jeszcze wówczas grooveowym posmaku. Specyficzne niskie brzmienie, solidnie doprawione basem i podobna barwa wokalu, uczyniły ze Sparagmos zespół oryginalny na rodzimej scenie, a mnogość rozwiązań pozwala spojrzeć na „Error” jako na album ciekawy i zrobiony z pomysłem

Przede wszystkim jest tu kilka wyróżniających się wokalnie utworów. „Under My Skin”, „Behind The Wheel”, „Vanity Pride” czy „Until Death Do Us Apart” są przebojowe i mają melodyjne i chwytliwe refreny. Szczególnie ten ostatni wpada w ucho: „Nobody shall hear your paying, another heart filled with desire.” Na pewno te utwory stanowią o wyrazistości płyty i nadają jej kolorytu, ale Sparagmos ma też do zaoferowania inne, bardziej techniczne i wręcz trochę psychodeliczne atrakcje. W „Drilling” i zaczynającym się perkusyjną solówką „Misery”, ciężkie fragmenty przeplecione są z bardziej rozlazłym graniem i paranoicznymi wokalami. Takim odchyłem jest też „Rapology”, któremu do rapu może i bardzo daleko, ale jednak wokal występującego gościnnie Piotra Sterbickiego sporo odbiega od reszty w stronę bardziej takiego mówienia. Z kolei „Do It Alive” jest mocnym uderzeniem w przeciwieństwie do wolnego i bardziej spokojnego „Nobody”. Wszystko kończy króciutki zgrzyt symbolizujący tytuł całości.

Tak więc na „Error” dzieje się sporo i z pewnością jest to płyta zasługująca na uznanie. Zespołowi jednak nie udało się rozwijać swojego stylu i w następnych krokach zaczęli kombinować w innych kierunkach.

Legendary polish death/thrash metal quartet SPARAGMOS proudly announces reissue of the band's sophomore studio album "Error".

Released oryginally in 1994 on tape only Error is finally receiving a 21st-century edition worthy of its legacy, for the first time on CD and LP, newly remastered. The album was mastered in 2026 by Filip Heinrich Hałucha at Heinrich House Studio, giving the classic 1993/1994 recordings a fresh, significantly clearer and more dynamic sound, while preserving the raw, organic spirit of the ’90s.

The reissue of Error is not merely a nostalgic journey — it is an opportunity for an album that was overlooked in the 1990s and difficult to buy due to the decline of the cassette format to finally be heard the way it was always meant to sound: loud, clear, and uncompromising.

At the time of its original release, Error was already regarded as one of the boldest and most progressive records on the Polish — and beyond — extreme metal scene. Its eclectic fusion of death metal, thrash, technical precision, power-driven choruses, expansive melodies, and experimental song structures pushed far beyond the genre’s standards of the era.

Critics frequently drew comparisons between the album and the cult classic Spheres by Dutch legends Pestilence, highlighting its forward-thinking approach and uncompromising artistic vision.

SPARAGMOS was formed in 1989 in Warsaw on the initiative of guitarist Sebastian Zusin, vocalist and guitarist Łukasz Myszkowski, and drummer Artur Grudziński. The latter soon left the band. His place was taken by Tomasz Marecki, and bassist Andrzej Rudnicki also joined the lineup. As a quartet, the musicians recorded their debut demo Mortal Organic Remains, which was self-released in 1990. In February 1992, the quartet entered the Power Play studio in Warsaw to record material for their first full-length album Invitation From Host Of Wrath. The band then began working on their second album, Error. The material was recorded with a new drummer, Krzysztof Bentkowski. SPARAGMOS remained active until 2002. Their final album, Conflict, was released in 1999.
