Dosłownie kilkanaście dni temu miałem tak z pełnym wydawnictwem Triumvir Foul a teraz pastwi się nad moimi uszami znakomity debiut Khthoniik Cerviiks zatytułowany „SeroLogiikal Scars (Vertex of Dementiia)”. Na tym wydawnictwie widnieje stempel Necroshrine Records, co jest wyznacznikiem wysokiego poziomu hałasu. I tak właśnie jest. Debiut do dalsza część ścieżki wytyczonej na „Heptaëdrone”. Gęste, mięsiste riffy krążące jak sępy wokół death/black metalowego truchła to właśnie siła tej muzyki. Muzyki prostej i nieskomplikowanej, ale pochodzącej z najgłębszego wnętrza czarnego jak heban metalowego serduszka (znowu mnie naszło na poezje spod budki z piwem hehe). Jest to kawał naprawdę porządnego grania. Mimo że takiej muzyki ostatnio powstaje na pęczki, to jestem zdania, że każdemu prawdziwemu maniakowi takiego muzykowania te nuty nigdy się nie znudzą. Według mnie rozbijanie tej płyty na poszczególne elementy nie ma sensu. Silenie się też na jakieś wzniosłe porównania również mija się celem. Tu sprawa jest prosta jak kij od szczotki: podobało Wam się demo, będziecie zachwyceni debiutem.

Lubicie porządne napierdalanie w death/black metalowym stylu, ta płyta jest stworzona dla Was. Ja mam zamiar ruszyć portfelem w momencie kiedy „SeroLogiikal Scars (Vertex of Dementiia)” będzie u nas dostępne.

My first encounter with "SeroLogiikal Scars (Vertex of Dementiia)" and Khthoniik Cerviiks in general was quite accidental, I never had a chance to hear "Heptaëdrone", which is previous Khthoniik Cerviiks recording. So, I didn’t even think about giving their debut full length a chance. But one song has been randomly played on YouTube and it clicked with me immediately. And well, I have now vinyl in my collection and without a doubt, "SeroLogiikal Scars (Vertex of Dementiia)" is a fantastic and truly exceptional album, which stands above the mediocrity and crushes most of the new albums due to its quality and originality.

Yes, originality is one of the keys for my appreciation of "SeroLogiikal Scars (Vertex of Dementiia)". Khthoniik Cerviiks, like no other band, brilliantly combines old, classic death / black metal formulas, with all their aggression, viciousness and intensity with something fresh and unique. The base of the music is deeply rooted in the traditional means, but with song structures, arrangements, technique and ideas, especially for the melodic riffs, it’s something absolutely exceptional. And is also a reason, why I think Khthoniik Cerviiks is such a worthy band. Give a listen to any song from "SeroLogiikal Scars"; each will catch your attention immediately. Especially the instrumentation is fantastic, because these guys do know how to play. And somehow with their technicality, they managed to keep the bestial, malicious side of death / black metal intact. Tempo wise this album is quite fast paced, which is also something I like a lot. This way there's nothing lame about it, but powerful, intense sound, which strikes the listener with no second wasted.

Sometimes it almost feels like vocals were only an addition to the music, if you notice that the first proper vocal line appears in the sixth minute of music. Death / black metal riffs are often quite progressive, twisted, with almost weird melodic lines, tempo variations, technique. With the obscure atmosphere, it gives you sort of a cosmic feeling, it’s a fascinating journey through far dimensions. This music may not be an easy to listen and "SeroLogiikal Scars" definitely requires attention, several spins, before it all hits you well. But this won't be a wasted time, I can guarantee, and the album is just worth to listen to. I've seen somewhere Voivod mentioned as an important influence for Khthoniik Cerviiks and I can agree with it, even though Khthoniik Cerviiks music is much more brutal and intense. Also Nocturnus, Deathspell Omega, Blood Incantation, Portal, Bolzer, Demilich... all these bands have something in common with this German kommando. But they all stand as individuals, so does Khthoniik Cerviiks, who are absolutely recommended entity in the current underground extreme metal scene.

Film Franka Zappy, składający się z zapisu koncertu zespołu Zappy w nowojorskim Palladium Theater w 1977 roku, z okazji Halloween.
Wybryki członków zespołu zarówno na scenie, jak i za kulisami przeplatają się z sekwencjami zrobionymi metodą animacji poklatkowej.



The concert film from my favorite era of Frank Zappa's career is definitely a spectacle of the eyes and ears. With precision versions of some of Zappa's best material, some trippy claymation sequences and some all around nonsense, this movie is easily one of the best concert films available. From the introduction rehearsal of Baby Snakes to the exciting Camarillo Brillo/Muffin Man medley, there is gold dispersed throughout this monumental spectacle.
Shot during a Halloween stint in New York, and with plenty of new material to play, Frank Zappa wows the audience with sheer audacity and musicality. From the soaring Adrian Belew vocals of City of Tiny Lites (which includes a monster Frank Zappa solo) to the "adorable" Terry Bozzio performance of Punky's Whips (again with another great Frank Zappa solo), the concert portions of this film are flawless. My only real complaint is that the claymation scenes tend to go on and on and do the same thing over and over again (which is shapeshifting objects and psychedelic sounds). With fan interviews dispersed around, some wacky Roy Estrada backstage scenes, and some band member interviews in between, every aspect of the Zappa live show was included flawlessly.

By far the best songs are Titties 'N Beer, Punky's Whips, Broken Hearts are for Assholes, and the Camarillo Brillo/Muffin medley. Three of these songs feature Terry Bozzio on vocals, one as a love-struck man confused with his sexuality, one as a very discerned devil, and the last as an overly agressive screamer. In any sense, these songs are excellent representations of their studio counterparts (apart from Titties 'N Beer and Punky's Whips, which were never released as studio tracks). The line-up of Adrian Belew (later of King Crimson fame), Patrick O'Hearn, Terry Bozzio, Tommy Mars, Pete Wolf, and FZ himself are cohesive and play the material flawlessly.

Overall, there is much to like about this film, if you can get past the overly boring claymation sequences. I cannot fault this film except for that, which is only about 20 minutes of an almost 3 hour movie. For Frank Zappa fans, this is a must own. But let it be known, this will be an excellent collection into any prog fans collection. But read the subtitle before making any moves, "A movie about people who do stuff that is not normal".

A tu mamy do czynienia z jednym z ciekawszych zespołów, jakie wydała niemiecka scena thrash metalowa. A przecież kraj wurstów i oktoberfestów wydał ich niemałą ilość.

Członkowie bandu mieli niemałe ambicje, o czym najlepiej świadczy sama jego nazwa. Pozornie to tylko imię proroka z nomenklatury biblijnej, który wyprowadził Izraelitów z niewoli Egiptu. Jednak mianując w ten sposób swój zespól, panowie Ramon Bruchlers, Peter Vonderstein i Jochen Funders mieli na myśli to, że porwą fanów thrash metalu tak jak to zrobił Mojżesz z niewolnikami. Panowie zaczęli grać jeszcze w szkole średniej w Akwizgranie, ale pierwszy koncert dali w pobliskim mieście Stolberg.

Grupa szybko zyskała sobie uznanie fanów, jednak był to rok 1980, a wtedy żywot metalowej kapeli to nie były bimber i cukierki. Lokalna prasa nazwala Holy Moses "najgłośniejszą i najokropniejszą kapelą na świecie".

Punkt zwrotny kapeli to data 17 listopada 1981 roku. Wtedy to grupa zostaje zaproszona do otwierania koncertu Venom w Eindhoven. Holy Moses znowu zaczyna aktywnie działać, mimo to Vonderstein odchodzi i zostaje zastąpiony przez Paula Linzericha. Ważniejsza dla losów Holy Moses zmiana personalna dokonała się na stanowisku gitarzysty. W miejsce Fundersa wskoczył, grający wcześniej w Disaster, Andy Classen.

Pozostawała jednak jeszcze kwestia wokalisty. Przez krótki czas struny głosowe zdzierał tajemniczy Iggy, ale ze względu na dziwaczny, hipisowski wizerunek został wylany jeszcze przed końcem roku. Wtedy Classen przypomniał sobie, ze przecież w Disaster na basie grała jego dziewczyna, Sabina. Ta jednak była wkurzona na członków Holy Moses przez uwagę na zabranie jej lubego z Disaster i nie chciała absolutnie brać fuchy i śpiewać. Zmuszona do przyjścia na próbę, specjalnie śpiewała niezrozumiale i wulgarnie, by zniechęcić resztę zespołu. Przeliczyła się jednak, bo ci byli nią zachwyceni i od razu dali jej posadę.

Następne lata to działalność koncertowa oraz pomniejsze wydawnictwa, wśród których wyróżnić należy demo Walpurgisnight. Ponadto w 1983 roku Sabina i Andy pobrali się, dzięki czemu mogli po bożemu konsumować swój związek. Co ciekawe, w 1984 pani Classen odeszła z zespołu, lecz po kilku tygodniach wróciła i Holy Moses mogło przystąpić do nagrywania debiutanckiego krążka.

Queen of Siam ukazał się w 1986 roku tylko na winylu i został wyprodukowany przez basistę Ralpha Huberta z Mekong Delty. Muzyka na nim zawarta to thrash z silnymi wpływami heavy, jak na przykładowo Feel the Fire Overkill. Czuć tez wpływy punku, a w przypadku partii wokalnych Sabiny - Venom. Muzyka nie jest najwyższych lotów, ale jest parę naprawdę dobrych utworów. Najlepszy z nich to tytułowy, zadedykowany dziewczynie Bruchlersa, z nośnymi riffami i świetnym, choć oszczędnym solo.

Jest też rytmiczny Dear Little Friend, poświęcony Lemmy'emu Roadcrew z Andym za mikrofonem czy Walpurgisnight. Grupa nie ustrzegła się jednak wpadek - kompozycja Devil's Dancer jest chaotyczna i nieskładna, a na dodatek nudna. Niemniej był to dobry album, który miał wkład w niemiecką scenę metalową.

Holy Moses were really lucky that the guys at Metal Hammer were probably the only ones who didn’t realize what a great album this was, and so “Queen Of Siam” sold really well and all the people who bought it could assure themselves of the quality of such soon-to-be-classics like “Roadcrew”, “Walpurgisnight” or the title track.

Although this album is full of great Speed/Thrash Metal songs, it was Sabina’s voice that stole the show and made this such a controversial and extreme output. Remember this was 1986 and there weren’t too many men around who “sang” like that, but it was unimaginable that a woman would be able to produce such sounds. Her singing is also the reason why this album qualifies for one of the very early Death Metal releases.

After this album Holy Moses would go on to play more technical thrash, while guitarist Andy Classen would become one of the hottest producers for Death and Black Metal bands.

A tu mamy do czynienia z jednym z ciekawszych zespołów, jakie wydała niemiecka scena thrash metalowa. A przecież kraj wurstów i oktoberfestów wydał ich niemałą ilość.

417 previously unreleased live performances! 'Very limited'

Sony are to release The 1974 Live Recordings a massive 27-disc box set that features all professionally recorded shows from Bob Dylan and The Band’s 1974 tour.

The box set offers fans 417 previously unreleased live tracks – including 133 recordings newly mixed from 16-track tape, and every single surviving soundboard recording.

In 1974 Dylan toured live for the first time in eight years and reunited with The Band, who since they last performed live together (in 1966) had released six albums and played Woodstock and recorded with Bob (The Basement Tapes, Planet Waves).

Dylan and The Band performed 30 dates in 42 days (often playing two sets per day) and recordings were captured on a stereo soundboard mix, on both quarter-inch tape and cassette. By tour’s end, Asylum Records’ David Geffen had commissioned recordings on multi-track tape, for eventual release on Before the Flood. The 1974 Live Recordings includes it all of these and the shows that were recorded on 16-track tape are newly-mixed for this box set, which comes with with new sleeve notes by Elizabeth Nelson.
