Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal/rock band from Stockholm, formed in 1989. The group has replaced every single original member. Mikael Åkerfeldt has remained Opeth's primary driving force since the departure of original vocalist David Isberg in 1992. Opeth has consistently incorporated progressive, folk, blues, classical, and jazz influences into its usually lengthy compositions, as well as strong influences from death metal, especially in their early works. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI...



[Gdy obojętność jest przyzwoleniem, a przyzwolenie jest akceptacją, gdy akceptacja jest tłumaczeniem że sytuacja jest wyższa racją...]




Większość fanów Megadeth można podzielić na dwie grupy. Tych, którzy za najlepszy album uważają "Peace Sells... But Who's Bying?", oraz na tych, którzy preferują "Rust in Peace". Zapewne istnieje jeszcze spora grupa stawiająca na czele "Countdown to Extinction", natomiast zwolennicy pozostałych albumów to już margines. W sumie nie bardzo rozumiem, dlaczego akurat "Rust in Peace" cieszy się takim uznaniem.

Album jest debiutem nowego, najtrwalszego i być może najsłynniejszego składu zespołu - z gitarzystą Martym Friedmanem i perkusistą Nickiem Menzą, którzy dołączyli do Dave'a Mustaine'a i Dave'a Ellefsona. Pod pewnymi względami stanowi jednak powrót do korzeni zespołu. Oczywiście, nie ma tutaj aż takiej dawki agresji i infantylności, jak na "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!" (wciąż jednak jest tego za dużo). Za to utwory są tak samo chaotyczne - przeładowane niezliczoną ilością riffów i solówek, sprawiających wrażenie połączonych zupełnie przypadkowo. Szybkie tempo, w jakim utrzymana jest większość albumu, zdecydowanie nie pomaga ogarnąć, co tutaj właściwie się dzieje.

Niektórzy chwalą ten album za jego skomplikowanie. Ok, nie jest to łatwa do zagrania muzyka, jednak jej trudność sprowadza się do szybkiego tempa, mnogości przypadkowo zestawionych motywów i solówek, a także opanowania paru technicznych sztuczek. Żadna głębsza myśl się za tym wszystkim nie kryje. Brzmi to raczej jak próba ukrycia braku jakichkolwiek pomysłów. Muzycy pOPISują się swoimi umiejętnościami grania, ale prócz tych pOPISów praktycznie nic więcej tu nie ma. Kompozycje właściwie nie istnieją. Melodie są tak nijakie, że w sumie też ich nie ma. Jakichkolwiek prób urozmaicenia, zaskoczenia słuchacza również nie stwierdzam (no dobrze, jest "Dawn Patrol", ale to tylko nic nie wnoszący przerywnik - niespełna dwuminutowy monolog z akompaniamentem sekcji rytmicznej). A nie jest to przecież żadna abstrakcyjna, eksperymentalna muzyka, gdzie brak struktury i brak melodii prowadziłby do jakiegoś celu. To tylko ordynarne, metalowe napieprzenie, przy którym można poskakać lub pomachać głową, gdy ma się te naście lat.

Ale "Rust in Peace" nawet w kategorii metalowego napieprzania jest do niczego, bo tego typu muzykę, ze wszystkimi jej ograniczeniami, można grać w bardziej przemyślany i uporządkowany sposób. Nie przypadkiem Megadeth zawsze pozostawał w cieniu Metalliki, która potrafiła uczynić thrash metal bardziej przystępnym, tworząc utwory, a nie chaotyczne zlepki licznych riffów, przeplatanych pseudo-wirtuozerskimi solówkami. Na poprzednich albumach zespół przynajmniej próbował pokazać większą różnorodność (na "Peace Sells..." nawet z dobrym skutkiem), podczas gdy "Rust in Peace" jest cholernie jednorodny. A przy tym zachowuje podstawowe wady swoich poprzedników, takie jak brak wyrazistości, chaotyczność i epatowanie infantylną agresją. Cóż, wychodzi na to, że to najsłabszy z pierwszych czterech albumów Megadeth.

„Rust In Peace” to bez wątpienia jedna z najważniejszych płyt w dorobku Megadeth – ważna również dla thrash metalu, jak i muzyki metalowej. Na tym albumie po raz pierwszy zagrali gitarzysta Marty Friedman i perkusista Nick Menza (zmarły w 2016 r.). Grali oni w Megadeth prawie przez dekadę, przez co zespół miał ustabilizowany skład na dłużej, co w przypadku tej grupy jest ewenementem.

Dzięki „Rust In Peace” Megadeth wzniósł się na wyższy poziom artystyczny, zyskał uznanie szerszej publiczności, a album został nominowany do nagrody Best Metal Performance podczas gali nagród Grammy w 1991 roku.

Po wydaniu trzech albumów, Megadeth szybko stał się czołowym zespołem thrashmetalowym. Niestety ani "Killing Is My Business..." ani "Peace Sells..." ani "So Far So Good..." nie były albumami, które wnosiły cokolwiek do gatunku. Płyty te obok dokanoń Metallicy czy nawet Slayera wypadały dosyć blado, a główną przyczyną tego było niewątpliwie brzmienie tych albumów. Co więcej - ani Poland ani Young nie byli gitarzystami tej samej klasy co choćby Hammett.
Rok 1990 okazał się jednak być punktem zwrotnym w karierze zespołu. Do zespołu trafili bowiem perkusista Nick Menza i wirtuoz gitary, znany ze współpracy z Jasonem Beckerem, Marty Friedman.

Różnica w klasie muzyków jest od razu widoczna. Co więcej - "Rust In Peace" została oprawiona w dużo lepsze brzmienie niż poprzedniczki. Owszem, muzyka dalej brzmi surowo, słychać lekki korytarz, ale dzięki temu czuć ducha thrash metalu. Tym razem jednak Mustaine pokazał jak powinien wyglądać thrash metal. Kto do tej pory miał wątpliwości co do Megadeth, to "Rust In Peace" powinien je rozwiać! Wtedy w 1990 roku był to chyba jeden z najbardziej technicznych albumów metalowych, pełen pomysłowych riffów, niesamowitych, jakże oryginalnych solówek, oryginalnego brzmienia sekcji rytmicznej i bardzo rozbudowanych utworów.

Płytę otwiera "Holy Wars ..." z rzadko spotykanym, tłumionym, szarpanym riffem, po którym następuje staccato perkusji i ... thrash pełną gębą ! Rewelacyjny tłumiony riff, nad którym unosi się specyficzny, zdławiony głos Mustaina. W środku utworu mamy wolniejszą wstawkę, która podkreśla bardzo wymowny tekst utworu. Solówka w tym utworze to dopiero przedsmak to co nastąpi potem. Marty Friedman pokazuje, że jest co najmniej podobnej klasy gitarzystą co Hammett, a może nawet lepszym. Jego specyficzne skalowanie jest od razu wyczuwalne.

"Hangar 18" to już kult !!! Ślizgany riff, melodyjne zaśpiewy, a po 2 minutach mamy 3-minutowy pojedynek gitarowy, gdzie muzycy prześcigają się w pomysłach. Pikanterii nadaje przyspieszenie jakie pojawia się przed jedna z solówek. Dzięki temu utwór zyskuje na dynamice.

"Take No Prisoners" to mocny thrashowy numer z chóralno odśpiewanym, a w zasadzie skandowanym refrenem. Nie jest to może tak dobry numer jak dwa poprzednie, ale trzyma poziom.

"Five Magics" to bardzo specyficzny numer zaczynający się niesamowitym staccatem perkusji zsynchronizowanym z gitarami. Dalej jest trochę nudno, wyczuwalny jest brak pomysłu na melodię ... ale końcówka ... przyspieszenie, znów staccato ... no i te solo ... niesamowita energia, polot, świeżość, pomysłowość ... jedna z lepszych solówek jakie słyszałem w życiu!

"Poison Was The Cure" to dosyć szybki, raczej mało charakterystyczny numer, który jest najsłabszym punktem albumu.

"Lucretia" rozpoczyna się fenomenalnym, melodyjnym riffem. Tak też jest sam utwór - rytmiczny, skandowany, łatwo zapadający w pamięć. No i kolejna solówka, odrobinę orientalna .... mmmm, palce lizać. Widać, że Mustaine pozwala tym razem muzykom na pokazanie swoich umiejętności i "wygranie" się. Kolejny świetny numer!

"Tornado Of Souls" - utwór raczej nie wymieniany wśród klasyków zespołu, choć nie wiem czemu. Jest to jeden z jaśniejszych punktów albumu. Technicznie jest perfekcyjny, ale punktem kulminacyjnym jest riff w środku utworu - niesamowicie dynamiczny, skoczny, genielny w każdym dźwięku.

"Dawn Patrol" to basowa miniaturka z mrocznym, przepitym, przepalonym mrukiem Mustaina i nawiedzonym szeptaniem i "ksykaniem". Rewelacyjny utwór na imprezę, gdy towarzystwo jest w stanie nieważkości.

Kończący płytę utwór tytułowy to kolejna porcja solidnego thrashu. Utwór może nie tak fenomenalny jak "Hangar 18" czy "Tornado Of Souls", ale nie ma powodów, aby się do niego przyczepić.

Megadeth tym albumem pokazał, że zasłużył sobie na miano gwiazdy. Nie chcę spekulować na temat odwiecznej wojny "co lepsze Megadeth czy Metallica?", gdyż każdy z tych zespołów gra inaczej. Na pewno Megadeth jest trudniejszy w odbiorze. Jest to zespół, który kochasz lub nienawidzisz. Zespół pokazał jednak, że posiada swój styl i ma coś do zaoferowania swoją muzyką. Nawet z perspektywy 15 lat ten album broni się. Jak się okazało "Rust In Peace" osiągnął pułap nieosiągalny dle zdecydowanej większości zespołów, które grają thrash.

Taking inspiration from Aerosmith and Van Halen, Ratt originally formed in Hollywood in the mid-1970s, eventually releasing the independent ‘Dr. Rock’ single in 1980, before contributing a track to the highly influential “Metal Masacre” compilation in1981, and their independently released, self-titled mini-album in 1983. But Ratt finally made their mark when Stephen Pearcy (vocals), Robbin Crosby (guitar), Warren DeMartini (guitar), Juan Croucier (bass) and Bobby Blotzer (drums) signed to Atlantic Records in 1984 for the “Out Of The Cellar” LP. Their tuneful hard rock found favour with both radio and on MTV, where clips for singles ‘Round And Round’ and ‘Back For More’ received heavy rotation. A big influence on the growing glam and hair metal scene based around LA’s Sunset Strip, “Out of The Cellar” would soon reach triple platinum status. The radio edit of 'Round And Round' is included as a bonus track.
