It is impossible to compile a single-disc greatest-hits compilation for Cat Stevens that will come close to satisfying all of his admirers. The Very Best of Cat Stevens is the fifth major attempt to do so and, like its predecessors, it is challenged by its subject's success. Remember Cat Stevens: The Ultimate Collection is the longest of the five (24 tracks) and may be the most comprehensive. But The Very Best of Cat Stevens , released just a year later, has several advantages that make it more appealing. To begin with, it is the only compilation to sequence chronologically songs from every one of Stevens ' albums, including the experimental Foreigner . It also contains the delightful folk creed "The Wind," which was a glaring omission from the so-called Ultimate Collection . Most significantly, it contains the previously unreleased "I've Got a Thing About Seeing My Grandson Grow Old." Stevens recorded a demo of the song during the Mona Bone Jakon sessions in 1970, but it never saw the light of day until it was remixed for this collection. Perhaps this was because it was considered too eccentric for public consumption, straddling the line between the hook-rich pop of Stevens ' '60s records and the groundbreaking folk-rock of his '70s efforts. If so, the public was vastly underestimated. The song is a buried treasure that fits in perfectly in the company of Stevens ' best work.

Antimatter — Live Between The Earth & Clouds [DVD/CD]

Istniejący już prawie dwie dekady projekt Micka Mossa ma co prawda na swoim koncie płyty live, jednak materiału koncertowego na DVD jeszcze się nie dorobił. Rzecz została zarejestrowana 25 marca 2016 roku w holenderskim Zoetermeer, w klubie De Boerderij. Artyści promowali wtedy swój najnowszy album, znakomity The Judas Table. I z niego mamy tu trzy kompozycje (Black Eyed Man, Can Of Worms, Stillborn Empires), jednak największą siłę stanowi poprzedni krążek Fear of a Unique Identity, z którego wybrzmiewa aż sześć utworów (Paranova, Firewalking, Monochrome, Uniformed & Black, Wide Awake In The Concrete Asylum, The Parade). A jednak nagranie to dobrze oddaje urok i fenomen Antimatter, jest bardzo reprezentatywne dla muzyki Mossa i może stanowić dobre wprowadzenie dla początkującego fana, dopiero odkrywającego Antymaterię.

Prawie dokładnie dwa miesiące po tym holenderskim występie miałem okazję widzieć grupę w Łodzi. Zagrała wtedy dokładnie tę samą setlistę (zarówno w Polsce, jak i w Holandii poleciały jeszcze Killer i Redemption, dla których miejsca na dysku zabrakło). Napisałem wówczas o tym występie: Ogromną siłą koncertu była jego niesamowita spójność i jednorodność. Mimo, że Antimatter ma na swoim koncie albumy naprawdę różne […], całość brzmiała jakby powstała dosłownie w tym samym czasie. Motoryczny, głęboki bas, równo nabijana, choć z dużą dozą miękkości, niespieszna rytmika, melodyjne gitarowe sola i ten głos Mossa… Może bez wielkich możliwości, ale z tym niepokojącym drżeniem. Ten prawie nic nie mówił pozwalając bronić się tylko muzyce. Najlepszym dowodem na wspomnianą spójność występu było wykonanie Floydowego „Welcome To The Machine” w jakże Antimatterowym stylu! Jakiż chłód, jakiż klimat?! Gdyby ktoś nigdy nie słyszał tego ikonicznego utworu, mógłby się mocno zdziwić, że nie jest to Antimatterowe dzieło.

I DVD Live Between The Earth & Clouds wszystko to oddaje. Zarejestrowane przy użyciu pięciu kamer, z bardzo spokojnym montażem (czasami z przenikającymi się powolnie ujęciami), idealnie korespondującym z muzyką. Praktycznie żadnych fajerwerków tu nie ma. Tylko czterech muzyków stojących na scenie skoncentrowanych na swoich instrumentach i skromna scena. Ale to wystarcza. Słucha się tego wybornie, tym bardziej, że zarówno dźwięk, jak i obraz są bardzo solidnej jakości. Wszystko spakowane w ładny digipack z dodatkową płytą audio z tym samy zestawem utworów. Ci, którzy zobaczyli zespół podczas ostatniej mini trasy w Polsce, mogli nabyć tę rzecz już sygnowaną przez muzyków.
