Jakość wideo nie jest zbyt dobra. To są bootlegi, więc czego można się spodziewać. Koncert w klubie jest całkiem w porządku, ale koncert DOA jest filmowany z boku, co trochę wkurwia.
Drogie 'panie' warto to obejrzeć, choćby po to by potem nie twierdzić uparcie, że Metallica to jakieś jebane objawienie!

Many Swim releases are rooted firmly in technology, so it's quite a surprise to find Plastic Venus taking a direct, 'back to basics' approach to rock. Unfortunately, the small amount of technology on display here is the undoing of the album. Helven Park contains all the typical elements of a rock band: drums, bass, guitar and vocals, but everything seems to be drowned in masses of reverb.

Now and again it almost works, building a ghostly and other-worldly sound. However, most of the time instrumentation and vocals are so heavily reverberated that everything ends up sounding dangerously dirge-like. There are exceptions, such as the eerie Kiss, which also provides one of the few decipherable lyrics: 'Sleep 'til you die; Kiss 'til you die/I don't want any of it coming back on me...'. Cheerful, indeed. Perhaps this is one reason why many of the lyrics are inaudible...

The opener, It's Dead, also proves to be quite strong, as does the Velvet Underground tinged Wait. It's a pity the effects units weren't subdued early on, as the whole thing ends up sounding like a muddy Seefeel album that's also got a few fast numbers. However, whereas that band were aiming to create a sort of ambient mixture of guitars, vocals and drums, Helven Park falls between that and standard rock, and ends up simply sounding very lost, messy and confused.

Wydany pod koniec 1971 roku (na podwójnym winylu) drugi album progresywnej słowackiej formacji. Grający teraz z elektrycznym gitarzystą zespół zaprezentował cztery 20-minutowe suity; trzy doskonałe oraz pełniącą raczej rolę wypełniacza, ostatnią na płycie "Euphonia". Bez wątpienia album należy do ścisłego kanonu europejskiego prog-rocka i zachwyci wszystkich miłośników grania spod znaku ELP, Procol Harum, Egg czy Rare Bird.

Collegium Musicum na przełomie września i października 1971 roku rozpoczął pracę nad „Konvergencie”, albumem noszącym znamiona muzyki postmodernistycznej (czego przykładem utwór „Eufónia”), który później stał się podstawową zasadą ich dalszej twórczości. Materiał był tak obszerny, że muzycy zdecydowali się wydać go w formie podwójnego albumu, który ukazał się pod sam koniec roku. I tak jak w przypadku debiutu okładka płyty pokazująca mężczyznę z papierosem w ustach wzbudziła kontrowersje wśród cenzorów. I choć urzędnicy oficjalnie nie aprobowali takiego wizerunku tym razem zespołowi się upiekło.

Nie chcę nadużywać górnolotnych słów, ale w przypadku tego albumu słowo arcydzieło jest jak najbardziej adekwatne do zawartej na nim muzyce. Otrzymujemy ponad dwie godziny progresywnego, głównie instrumentalnego rocka zdominowanego przez potężne, bluesowe gitary, tony jazzowych improwizacji i niekończące się partie organowe Vargi z niesamowitymi solówkami. I mimo, że to on tu dominuje, to kilka fantastycznych solówek na gitarze zagrał Griglák pokazując fenomenalny potencjał jaki w nim drzemał. Szkoda, że nie powtórzył go w późniejszym projekcie o nazwie Fermata…

Album na winylu to cztery strony, cztery kompozycje i prawie każdy styl muzyczny na nich zawarty. Otwierający, 22-minutowy, epicki „PF 1972” to siedmioczęściowa suita pełna zaraźliwego przepychu, podkreślona energicznymi i wspaniałymi organowymi motywami Hammonda, szaleńczymi staccato pianina, dziecięcym chórem, bluesową solówką gitarową i migoczącymi talerzami perkusyjnymi. A wszystko podlane w psychodelicznym sosie. Po prostu bajka! Aha, tajemnicze PF w tytule to skrót francuskiego zwrotu Pour féliciter stosowany przy składaniu życzeń noworocznych… „Suita po tisíc a jednej noci” to z kolei występ na żywo z długimi, instrumentalnymi pasażami z wplecionymi fragmentami „Szeherezady” Rimskiego-Korsakowa. Nieustanne dudnienie bębnów, mnóstwo wściekłych gitar i powolne bluesowe zjazdy w stronę łagodniejszych jazzowych klimatów nadają utworowi dodatkowego splendoru. To jedno z takich nagrań, które naprawdę potrafi uzależnić. Ośmioczęściowy „Piesne z kolovrátku” na trzeciej stronie łączy kilka rodzajów ciepło zaśpiewanych utworów po słowacku, co dodaje nieco egzotyki. Łączą się one ze skomplikowanymi instrumentacjami pędząc od fantazyjnych pełnych radości optymistycznych, fortepianowych ballad („Piesne z kolovrátku”), psychotycznych przyśpiewek („Interludium”), przez grzmiące refleksje organów i chóralnych śpiewów („Choral”) po energiczno melodyjny pop rock („Tvoj Sneh”). I to wszystko w ciągu osiemnastu minut! Dwudziestominutowa „Eufónia”, która zamyka album, to pięcioczęściowa tripowa podróż po kosmicznej próżni pełna zniekształceń i atonalnych dźwięków. Wstęp, z wirującym wokół ryczącym Hammondem, z tlącym się żarem gitary szybko przechodzi w psychodeliczne klimaty przywodzące na myśl wczesne lata Pink Floyd. Z pogwałceniem elementarnych zasad elektroniki Varga ze swoimi klawiszami wije się w rozmytych eksploracjach i atakuje kaskadowymi dźwiękami fortepianu niczym Rick Wright na „Ummagummie”. Po długich, dla wielu pewnie zbyt męczących eksperymentach ostatnie 4-5 minut zamienia się w niebiańskie bona fide. Sekwencja akordów z prostym początkiem przechodzącym do najbardziej majestatycznych jest fantastyczna. Pogodne, ambientowe pożegnanie całej płyty.

Żaden inny zespół z Europy Wschodniej nie był tak doskonały (może poza naszym SBB) i nie był tak kompatybilny z wpływami zachodnimi i słowiańskimi, jak ten w tym składzie i na tym albumie. To pozycja obowiązkowa dla każdego fana, który szuka nowych horyzontów i dźwięków mocno zabarwionych wszystkimi dostępnymi w tamtych czasach stylami muzycznymi. Marian Varga wyprzedzał swoje czasy nawet jak na zachodnie standardy. Uważam go za jednego z najlepszych klawiszowców wszechczasów. To, co czyni go wyjątkowym, to jego słowiańskie wyczucie czasu, które pojawia się w każdej milisekundzie. Myślę, że jest dla klawiszy tym, czym Jeff Beck dla gitary. Absolutnie rozpoznawalny, bardzo oryginalny dźwięk jego Hammonda z wiekiem robi na mnie coraz większe wrażenie. Wygląda na to, że kochał swojego Hammonda, a jednocześnie czuł potrzebę wyciśnięcia z niego wszystkiego, co tylko możliwe. I wszystko po to, by zagrać jedne z najpiękniejszych, rozdzierających serce melodii, jakie kiedykolwiek mogłem usłyszeć.

There's much of Keith Emerson in Marion Varga's playing, but this double album is more than a tribute to a way of playing the Hammond. There are arrangements of famous classical pieces (Bach, Rimsky-Korsakov and Haydn), together with a pure electronic suite. The shortest song is about 7 minutes, but all the rest is between 12 and 25 minutes in length. Never boring, anyway. There's a good variety of sub-genres, interludes, and very interesting passages. The other group members are very good musicians, too, so even if the Hammond has the "first row", all the ensemble can be apprieciated. The SLOVAKIAN (I wrote hungarian by mistake in the first version of this review, but I was llistening to After Crying actually) lyrics add a bit of exotism and are not "weird" like some English lyrics sung by Germans (I mean the Eloy, just to draw an example). As I mentioned at the beginning, there's much of Keith Emerson, but it's not so relevant as in Par Lindh may be. The composing and the arrangements are original enough to give this album a very high rating. To all the fans of Symphonic prog, not only EL&P.

Active for just over a decade before initially folding in 1981, Slovakian band Collegium Musicum, founded by and mostly driven musically by keyboardist Marián Varga, delivered what is probably their defining musical statement in 1971 with their lavish double LP `Konvergencie', an ambitious and varied eighty-two minute opus full of exceptional playing. Offering four extended collections of music (a mix of studio pieces and live performances), each side holds a single multi-sectioned suite of grandiose music crammed with classical aspirations, symphonic bombast, psychedelic mystery and even enjoyable pop/rock pieces, similar to parts of The Nice, the first `Trace' album, Triumvirat, M.Efekt and Focus, with traces of Krautrock daring and the earliest psych-era works of many of the vintage Italian prog bands as they began to branch out with more adventurous music.
Opening twenty-two minute epic `P.F 1972' is a seven-part suite full of infectious pomp, highlighted by Marián Varga's energetic and grand reprising Hammond organ themes. A tastefully swooning organ motif slowly builds in drama, incorporating Franti?ek Griglák's bluesy electric guitar soloing for wilder breaks, shimmering psychedelic dreaminess around softly twinkling cymbals and rambunctious drum bluster. `Part IV' is bookended with an infernal gently-brooding murkiness that is punctuated by searing Hammond blasts, Focus-like fiery guitar wails and maddening staccato piano stabs, the playful and whimsical `Part V' passage wouldn't have sounded out of place on Rick Wakeman's early discs, there's rambunctious feel-good bursts (`Parts III and VII') with Du?an Hájek's crashing drumming, and even a children's choir singing prettily through the second and sixth moments.

Side B's five-part ` Suita po tisíc a jednej noci' is a live performance that incorporates lengthy instrumental jamming passages weaving in and out of themes lifted from Rimsky-Korsakov's `Scheherazade'. Constant pounding drums and plentiful raging electric guitar searing and slow-burn bluesy come-downs remind of both Focus and Finch, and there's some softer jazzier musings, Fedor Freěo's rumbling bass-fuelled deranged call-to-arms and churning hard psychedelic meltdowns. Think a more spontaneous version of E.L.P's `Pictures at an Exhibition', and the rougher recording quality in comparison to the studio sides helps to give the piece an addictive added toughness.

The eight-part `Piesne z kolovrátku' on the third side fuses several kinds of warmly sung vocal pieces with intricate instrumentations, racing through everything from fancy and joyful piano upbeat ballads (part 2 `Piesne z kolovrátku'), quirky ditties and psych fragments (the few `Interludium' sketches), booming organ/choir reflections (`Choral') and energetic pop-rockers (part IV `Tvoj Sneh') within eighteen minutes, reminding of Modry Efekt and even the Beatles.

The twenty-minute `Eufónia' that closes the set is a five-part vacuum of space music distortion. The introduction may be all grooving Hammond whirling around a foot-tapping beat and smouldering electric guitar embers, but the pieces soon mutates into howling psychedelic reaches that almost call to mind the early Pink Floyd years, splintering and reverberating electronic violations (traces of Egg's `Boilk' from their `Police Force' album buried in there!) meandering into Krautrock-like fuzzy explorations and skittering Rick Wright/`Ummagumma'-era cascading piano nightmares before a final trippy space-out of alien voices (most likely that children's choir from the first piece, just given an `alien baby' makeover here!) and a serene ambient organ send-off. It's directionless and hardly cohesive, but a glorious fuzzy mess of tasty noise all the same.

Yes `Konvergencie' is over-indulgent and also a little dated these days, yet it also remains massively inspired and daring, as so many of the best albums from the most adventurous decade of rock music were allowed to be. Ticking a lot of boxes and offering exciting music in a whole range of styles here, just ignore the bland cover, and look forward to the eclectic psychedelic twists and lashings of bombastic symphonic gold within instead from Collegium Musicum!

Łączą się one ze skomplikowanymi instrumentacjami pędząc od fantazyjnych pełnych radości optymistycznych, fortepianowych ballad („Piesne z kolovrátku”), psychotycznych przyśpiewek („Interludium”), przez grzmiące refleksje organów i chóralnych śpiewów („Choral”) po energiczno melodyjny pop rock („Tvoj Sneh”). I to wszystko w ciągu osiemnastu minut! Dwudziestominutowa „Eufónia”, która zamyka album, to pięcioczęściowa tripowa podróż po kosmicznej próżni pełna zniekształceń i atonalnych dźwięków. Wstęp, z wirującym wokół ryczącym Hammondem, z tlącym się żarem gitary szybko przechodzi w psychodeliczne klimaty przywodzące na myśl wczesne lata Pink Floyd. Z pogwałceniem elementarnych zasad elektroniki Varga ze swoimi klawiszami wije się w rozmytych eksploracjach i atakuje kaskadowymi dźwiękami fortepianu niczym Rick Wright na „Ummagummie”. Po długich, dla wielu pewnie zbyt męczących eksperymentach ostatnie 4-5 minut zamienia się w niebiańskie bona fide. Sekwencja akordów z prostym początkiem przechodzącym do najbardziej majestatycznych jest fantastyczna. Pogodne, ambientowe pożegnanie całej płyty.

Żaden inny zespół z Europy Wschodniej nie był tak doskonały (może poza naszym SBB) i nie był tak kompatybilny z wpływami zachodnimi i słowiańskimi, jak ten w tym składzie i na tym albumie. To pozycja obowiązkowa dla każdego fana, który szuka nowych horyzontów i dźwięków mocno zabarwionych wszystkimi dostępnymi w tamtych czasach stylami muzycznymi. Marian Varga wyprzedzał swoje czasy nawet jak na zachodnie standardy. Uważam go za jednego z najlepszych klawiszowców wszechczasów. To, co czyni go wyjątkowym, to jego słowiańskie wyczucie czasu, które pojawia się w każdej milisekundzie. Myślę, że jest dla klawiszy tym, czym Jeff Beck dla gitary. Absolutnie rozpoznawalny, bardzo oryginalny dźwięk jego Hammonda z wiekiem robi na mnie coraz większe wrażenie. Wygląda na to, że kochał swojego Hammonda, a jednocześnie czuł potrzebę wyciśnięcia z niego wszystkiego, co tylko możliwe. I wszystko po to, by zagrać jedne z najpiękniejszych, rozdzierających serce melodii, jakie kiedykolwiek mogłem usłyszeć.

There's much of Keith Emerson in Marion Varga's playing, but this double album is more than a tribute to a way of playing the Hammond. There are arrangements of famous classical pieces (Bach, Rimsky-Korsakov and Haydn), together with a pure electronic suite. The shortest song is about 7 minutes, but all the rest is between 12 and 25 minutes in length. Never boring, anyway. There's a good variety of sub-genres, interludes, and very interesting passages. The other group members are very good musicians, too, so even if the Hammond has the "first row", all the ensemble can be apprieciated. The SLOVAKIAN (I wrote hungarian by mistake in the first version of this review, but I was llistening to After Crying actually) lyrics add a bit of exotism and are not "weird" like some English lyrics sung by Germans (I mean the Eloy, just to draw an example). As I mentioned at the beginning, there's much of Keith Emerson, but it's not so relevant as in Par Lindh may be. The composing and the arrangements are original enough to give this album a very high rating. To all the fans of Symphonic prog, not only EL&P.

Active for just over a decade before initially folding in 1981, Slovakian band Collegium Musicum, founded by and mostly driven musically by keyboardist Marián Varga, delivered what is probably their defining musical statement in 1971 with their lavish double LP `Konvergencie', an ambitious and varied eighty-two minute opus full of exceptional playing. Offering four extended collections of music (a mix of studio pieces and live performances), each side holds a single multi-sectioned suite of grandiose music crammed with classical aspirations, symphonic bombast, psychedelic mystery and even enjoyable pop/rock pieces, similar to parts of The Nice, the first `Trace' album, Triumvirat, M.Efekt and Focus, with traces of Krautrock daring and the earliest psych-era works of many of the vintage Italian prog bands as they began to branch out with more adventurous music.
Opening twenty-two minute epic `P.F 1972' is a seven-part suite full of infectious pomp, highlighted by Marián Varga's energetic and grand reprising Hammond organ themes. A tastefully swooning organ motif slowly builds in drama, incorporating Franti?ek Griglák's bluesy electric guitar soloing for wilder breaks, shimmering psychedelic dreaminess around softly twinkling cymbals and rambunctious drum bluster. `Part IV' is bookended with an infernal gently-brooding murkiness that is punctuated by searing Hammond blasts, Focus-like fiery guitar wails and maddening staccato piano stabs, the playful and whimsical `Part V' passage wouldn't have sounded out of place on Rick Wakeman's early discs, there's rambunctious feel-good bursts (`Parts III and VII') with Du?an Hájek's crashing drumming, and even a children's choir singing prettily through the second and sixth moments.

Side B's five-part ` Suita po tisíc a jednej noci' is a live performance that incorporates lengthy instrumental jamming passages weaving in and out of themes lifted from Rimsky-Korsakov's `Scheherazade'. Constant pounding drums and plentiful raging electric guitar searing and slow-burn bluesy come-downs remind of both Focus and Finch, and there's some softer jazzier musings, Fedor Freěo's rumbling bass-fuelled deranged call-to-arms and churning hard psychedelic meltdowns. Think a more spontaneous version of E.L.P's `Pictures at an Exhibition', and the rougher recording quality in comparison to the studio sides helps to give the piece an addictive added toughness.

The eight-part `Piesne z kolovrátku' on the third side fuses several kinds of warmly sung vocal pieces with intricate instrumentations, racing through everything from fancy and joyful piano upbeat ballads (part 2 `Piesne z kolovrátku'), quirky ditties and psych fragments (the few `Interludium' sketches), booming organ/choir reflections (`Choral') and energetic pop-rockers (part IV `Tvoj Sneh') within eighteen minutes, reminding of Modry Efekt and even the Beatles.

The twenty-minute `Eufónia' that closes the set is a five-part vacuum of space music distortion. The introduction may be all grooving Hammond whirling around a foot-tapping beat and smouldering electric guitar embers, but the pieces soon mutates into howling psychedelic reaches that almost call to mind the early Pink Floyd years, splintering and reverberating electronic violations (traces of Egg's `Boilk' from their `Police Force' album buried in there!) meandering into Krautrock-like fuzzy explorations and skittering Rick Wright/`Ummagumma'-era cascading piano nightmares before a final trippy space-out of alien voices (most likely that children's choir from the first piece, just given an `alien baby' makeover here!) and a serene ambient organ send-off. It's directionless and hardly cohesive, but a glorious fuzzy mess of tasty noise all the same.

Yes `Konvergencie' is over-indulgent and also a little dated these days, yet it also remains massively inspired and daring, as so many of the best albums from the most adventurous decade of rock music were allowed to be. Ticking a lot of boxes and offering exciting music in a whole range of styles here, just ignore the bland cover, and look forward to the eclectic psychedelic twists and lashings of bombastic symphonic gold within instead from Collegium Musicum!

To jest pierwsza profesjonalna grupa 'Fast' Eddie'ego Clarke'a - późniejszego gitarzysty Motorhead z klasycznego okresu 1977-1982! Wydany w 1974 roku zupełnie zapomniany, ale bardzo dobry album brytyjskiej formacji Zeus prowadzonej przez moment przez amerykańskiego wokalistę Curtisa Knighta - znanego głównie z krótkotrwałej (i mało udanej) współpracy z Hendrixem (przed Experience).

Nagrany w Londynie album zawierał przede wszystkim doskonałe, wysmakowane i niemalże archetypowe partie gitary Clarke'a - i to dla nich warto mieć ten CD! Poza tym na płycie znalazło się sporo ciężkich i autentycznie intrygujących numerów (choć nie stroniących od rhythm'n'bluesowych wtrętów) - czasem tylko 'zakłóconych' żeńskimi chórkami, czy wejściami klawiszy. Jest kilka dłuższych kawałków (9-minutowy 'Cloud' to rewelacja), tak więc płyta powinna mocno zainteresowć wszystkich miłośników klasycznego rocka i oczywiście każdego fana Motorhead!

To jest kolejny dowód, że mocnych płyt pozostało do odkrycia jeszcze mnóstwo!

Having completed his national service, Knight settled in California where he hoped to pursue a career in music. He appeared in a low-budget movie, Pop Girl, before relocating to New York during the early 60s. Knight then recorded for several minor labels, but these releases have been eclipsed by the singer’s collaborations with Jimi Hendrix, who joined Curtis’ group, the Squires, in 1965.

Hendrix’s tenure there was brief, but the contract he signed with Knight’s manager, Ed Chalpin, had unfortunate repercussions, particularly as the guitarist ill-advisedly undertook another recording session in 1967. His spells with Knight yielded 61 songs, 26 studio and 35 live, which have since been the subject of numerous exploitative compilations. Although some of this material is, in isolation, worthwhile, such practices have undermined its value.

As Curtis Knight continued to pursue his career throughout the 60s using whatever musicians were available, he increasingly relied on his Hendrix association, and in 1974 published Jimi, ‘an intimate biography’. By this point Knight was based in London where he led a new group, Curtis Knight - Zeus. This band comprised Eddie Clarke (guitar; later in Motörhead), Nicky Hogarth (keyboards), John Weir (bass) and Chris Perry (drums).

They completed two albums, but only one was issued in the UK. The singer undertook a European tour and recorded an unremarkable album before returning to the USA. In the latter part of the decade Knight conceived the black punk rock band, Pure Hell. He continued to work with a variety of musicians while running his own limousine business. In 1992, Knight relocated to the Netherlands where he continued to record up to his death from cancer in November 1999. He had recently launched the Double Rainbow/Happy Dream label.

Knight cut a storming set of tunes which varies from the immediately attractive rocking title track, through the peaks and troughs of New Horizon, to the comparative restraint of The Confession. It’s hard to imagine any rock fan not finding something to enjoy here, with the quality of the playing and instantly memorable songs. Here and there Knight uses a female chorus to enhance certain tracks, while his overall production of the album is clear and engaging. One bonus, The Devil Made Me Do It, is added to the original, making this a highly recommended reissue for any Hendrix or general rock fan.
