Pięć lat po wydaniu pierwszego pełnometrażowego albumu „To”, Totenmesse powraca ze swoim Black Metalem – „Fiktionlust”: 8 utworów nagranych, zmiksowanych i zmasterowanych w Impressive Art przez Przemysława Nowaka w sładzie Mould, Stawrogin, Rzulty.
Okładkę albumu stanowi obraz 'Karły i szczudlarze' autorstwa znanego polskiego artysty - Grzegorza Steca.
Layout wykonał Sars.




Kurwa mać, ile jeszcze wspaniałych black metalowych albumów wypluje w tym roku polska scena black metalowa? Mam nadzieję, że jeszcze co najmniej kilka! Na pewno do tej grupy zaliczam najnowszy, choć dopiero drugi, album Totenmesse.

Już sam okładka jest wspaniała, totalnie odstająca od kanonów. A pewnie gdybyście najpierw usłyszeli muzykę i musieli dopasować doń okładkę, nie trafilibyście w większości przypadków. Olbrzymie propsy.

Ale przejdźmy do muzyki. Jeśli słyszeliście wcześniejszą płytę „To” – nowa jest rozwinięciem pomysłów z tego albumu. Choć w sumie nie wiem, co tu rozwijać, bowiem muzyka Totenmesse jest akurat bardzo kanoniczna jeśli chodzi o formę i brzmienie. O ile w przypadku muzyków stojących za tym zespołem, często inspiracje są bardzo szerokie, nieraz wychodzące zdecydowanie poza black metalową, czy metalową estetykę w ogóle, o tyle Totenmesse to czysty, czarny metal. Może nie ten z samych początków, ale opierający się o znane nazwy i ich wspaniałe wydawnictwa. Mayhem z „Wolf’s Lair Abyss”, Trelldom, Satyricon z „Rebel Extravaganza”, Thorns (ale pozbawiony tego industrialnego posmaku), Immortal, tu czy tam szwedzki Shining czy Silencer… Totenmesse sięga po inspiracje z płyt przełomu wieków i wyciąga z nich to co najlepsze. W większości są to szybkie, zimne kompozycje, ale w kilku momentach zespół przechodzi na wolniejsze (co nie znaczy mniej nienawistne) terytoria.

Wspaniale słucha się tej płyty, bardzo podoba mi się też balansowanie w tych tempach na zasadzie kontrapunktów – szybka nawałnica blastów i riffów w momencie potrafi przejść w spokojne, ale cały czas ponure, tempo. Totenmesse czuje black metal z przełomu lat dziewięćdziesiątych i zerowych, doskonale też potrafi przełożyć te inspiracje na swoją modłę, a tę następnie sprezentować słuchaczowi w postaci „Fiktionlust” – płyty naprawdę świetnej. I w jakiś sposób na tle innych zespołów z Polski wypada z tymi pomysłami całkiem oryginalnie.

Jestem zachwycony tym albumem. Zobaczymy, jaki odzew będzie miał wśród słuchaczy, mam nadzieję że nie przejdzie bez echa – choć mam wrażenie, że Pagan Records traktuje to wydawnictwo trochę po macoszemu, zaprzątnięty promowaniem nowego albumu Furii. Cóż, może po premierze sytuacja będzie lepsza. Tak czy inaczej – „Fiktionlust” ma moją rekomendację!

Oracle



Siedzi sobie człowiek spokojnie w domu, rozmyśla powoli nad muzycznymi podsumowaniami, ogólny luz i relaksik, aż tu nagle spada mu na głowę premiera nówki od Totenmesse. Nieczęsto zdarza mi się pisać recenzje bez próby nabrania do ocenianej muzyki zdrowego dystansu, ale krążek ten docisnął mnie do maty z taką siłą, że postanowiłem zrobić dla niego wyjątek.

Przyznam na wstępie, że nie byłem przygotowany na zmiany, jakie w muzyce Totenmesse przyniesie ze sobą Fiktionlust. Mając w pamięci wydany w 2018 roku To, oczekiwałem od nowego albumu raczej kolejnej przygody w Odrażającym świecie dekadenckiego black metalu ‘made in Poland’, w praktyce okazało się jednak, że grupa postanowiła niemal całkowicie przemodelować swą muzyczną układankę i zafundować sobie coś na wzór nowego otwarcia. Rozpoczynając od przetasowania składu, zmian funkcjonalnych w zespole, rezygnacji z polskich tekstów, na zwrocie ukierunkowania muzycznego kończąc.

Totenmesse odchodzi na Fiktionlust od poszukiwania awangardowych form wyrazu, skupiając się raczej na bezpretensjonalnej ekspresji wycyzelowanej nienawiści, mizantropii, jadu i agresji. Mamy tu więc 8 (a raczej 9) smagających po ryju strzałów, uderzających w słuchacza z siłą tornada, przed niszczycielskimi skutkami którego nie sposób uciec. Zadziwia przy tym fakt, jak bezczelnie manifestacyjny w obranej konwencji i otwarcie eksponujący swoje walory jest to album. Już od pierwszego przesłuchania siedziałem przy nim z rozdziawioną japą, nie mogąc wyjść z podziwu nad skutecznością, z jaką czesze każdy z kolejnych numerów, czyniących w mojej głowie piękne spustoszenie. Jedynym mankamentem pozostaje tu w zasadzie metraż. 37 minut muzyki to zdecydowanie za mało, by pożywić się nim do syta.

Pewnie, że mógłbym starać się opisywać poszczególne utwory, dokonywać wykładni tekstów, doszukiwać się nawiązań i konkretnych wzorców, w to miejsce wolę jednak zwyczajnie podążać za emocjami. Fiktionlust to dźwiękowa petarda, której wartości dopatruję się w oddziaływaniu na ich podstawowym poziomie.
