Jedna z najbardziej niepodważalnych i jednoznacznych legend polskiego rocka lat 60. Powstała latem 1965 roku, stała się pierwszą polską grupą gwiazd, składającą się z byłych członków polskich zespołów Czerwono-Czarni i Niebiesko-Czarni. Jeszcze w tym samym roku udało im się nagrać dwie EP-ki z soczystymi, rytmicznymi i bluesowymi, dzikimi pasażami. Przełom nastąpił wraz z The Animals, którzy koncertowali w Polsce w listopadzie 1965 roku, wspierając Polan na polu muzycznym. Dwa tygodnie współpracy nadały Polanom bardziej agresywne brzmienie. Na początku 1966 roku, jako druga polska grupa (po Niebiesko-Czarnych), otrzymali pozwolenie na trasę koncertową po Żelaznej Kurtynie, z koncertami w Skandynawii i Niemczech Zachodnich. W hamburskim Star Club spotkali się ponownie z Erikiem Burdonem, który zaprosił ich do wspólnego koncertowania z The Animals w Wielkiej Brytanii. Jednak ta okazja została zaprzepaszczona rzekomo z powodu problemów z paszportami. W październiku 1967 roku nagrali swój jedyny LP.

To jest limitowany, wydany w niewielkim nakładzie CD zawierający pierwszy zarejestrowany koncert z wówczas nowym wokalistą Ianem Gillanem, jaki odbył się pod koniec sierpnia 1969 roku w amsterdamskim klubie Paradiso!

Ten kapitalny 77-minutowy CD (będący znacznie polepszoną i lepiej brzmiącą wersją starego, dobrego CD "Ritchie's Blues" z 1989 roku) zawiera m.in. wczesną wersję "Speed King" (tutaj jako 9-minutowy "Kneel & Pray") oraz, pomijając wersję z LP "Made In Japan", chyba najlepsze, genialnie zaśpiewane wykonanie "Child In Time" - całe osiem miesięcy przed wydaniem LP "In Rock"! Jakość dźwięku jest doskonała (źródłem była transmisja z holenderskiego radia, z 1987 roku), choć w pierwszym nagraniu dźwiękowcy nie mogli sobie poradzić z balansem (brak gitary przez pół nagrania), zaś "Mandrake Root" został wyciszony po pięciu minutach. Na szczęście jednak wydawca bardzo zgrabnie wplótł brakujące dwanaście minut z dwóch rzadkich i profesjonalnie zarejestrowanych innych występów z tego samego okresu!

Dodatkowo zamieszczono 11-minutową wersję "Paint In Black", która nie zmieściła się na pojedynczym CD "Live In Montreux, October 1969", również wydanym przez Sweet Leaf Records.

Al Kooper (ur. jako Alan Peter Kuperschmidt 5 lutego 1944 w Brooklynie) to amerykański muzyk, kompozytor i producent muzyczny, najbardziej znany jako członek zespołu The Blues Project oraz założyciel zespołu Blood, Sweat & Tears i jego lider (w początkowym okresie działalności). Współpracował jako muzyk sesyjny między innymi z Bobem Dylanem (grał na organach w utworze „Like a Rolling Stone”), The Rolling Stones (grał na organach, fortepianie i rogu w utworze „You Can't Always Get What You Want”). W 1972 odkrył i wylansował zespół Lynyrd Skynyrd produkując jego trzy pierwsze albumy studyjne. Dwukrotnie nominowany do Nagrody Grammy. W 2023 roku został wprowadzony do Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the beginning of the 1970s, Epitaph was on the direct road to success: The band had a record deal with the US label Billingsgate in the bag, played - as the first West German rock band ever - an extensive tour through the USA, and "Outside The Law", their 1973 album produced in Chicago, achieved excellent sales.

The future seemed promising. But Billingsgate got into financial trouble, dragging the band into the maelstrom in 1974, so Epitaph took some time off. The merry-go-round of personnel changed and when the band went on tour with the Hungarian prog rockers Omega in 1978, the new line-up was in place and with Brain (Metronome) the new label partner was found. "Return To Reality" (1979) achieved considerable sales, a year later on "See You In Alaska" (1980) the band presented itself as a four-piece again and on the legendary "Live" (1981) the Epitaph typical twin guitars dominated again.

"Live" is available here for the first time in digitalized form and also on CD. The conclusion of this Epitaph time travel is the album "Danger Man", released in 1982 on the German Rockport label. The box comes with a 16-page booklet and plenty of bonus material.
