Wydawnictwo ukazało się w czerwcu 1999 roku nakładem wytwórni muzycznej Old Legend Productions. Materiał został zarejestrowany w 1997 roku w New Project Studio.


There is no shortage of NSBM out there that seems to confuse an ear-splitting fuzz with atmosphere. Amateur non-production has made many would-be classics in the admittedly dodgy field of NSBM borderline unlistenable. I can be forgiven for expecting this sort of thing from Thunderbolt and proceeding with caution.

I have been wrong before, but rarely this wrong! This little demo tape brought me back to my early teenage years, when I first stumbled on the likes of Mayhem, Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone and Immortal. This has so much of the atmosphere that was so treasured in the early days of 'second-wave' black metal. The guitars are piercing, without being excessively waspish. The vocals contain just enough echo to give you that cold, cavernous feeling a la Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, but the style of the vocals has more in common with early Ragnarok. Honestly, it feels like I've found another early Norwegian classic to obsess over.

The drums are something else, they remind me of the first few Maniac Butcher albums, which is nothing to be upset about. The bass is somewhere between Under a Funeral Moon and Live in Leipzig, not exactly dominating the mix, but not buried by any means. And to round out this second-wave worship, there are the atmospheric breaks that are like a blend of the acoustic breaks of Immortal and the walls of keyboard texture you find on Emperor's early albums. It's not a completely derivative record, I'm simply using these well-known points of reference to help paint a picture of what one can expect to find here. This particular blend is not something I've heard anywhere else, but it takes me straight back to the grimness that dominated in 1993, and makes me feel the cold, satanic atmosphere all over again. Instant black metal classic, one I would highly recommend!

Holy shit why did it take me this long to hear this band? After being intrigued by a track of theirs on the Night and the Fog compilation I went on a search to find more, but I did not expect them to be this good.

The band sounds like a mix of many bands including emperor, and dissection with a few of their own touches. One of the best things about this album is that the band isn’t afraid to stray from standard black metal sounds

First of all the production here is excellent. This album just reeks of atmosphere that can rarely be matched in this field of music. Every instrument is heard clearly yet retains a raw cold sound about them. The guitars sound very powerful and epic at times. The riffage is truly excellent and fairly technical at times. The drums sound a lot like Dissection’s did on Storm of The Lights Bane with a little more oomph into them at times. The vocals are very reminiscent of early Dissection as well. They are very cold and aggressive and many of the words can be understood.

One thing that I like a lot about this band is their excellent use in including calmer songs into the mix. For example Shadows of The Deepest Night opens up as a very beautiful folk track with acoustic guitars. The drums soon kick in and sounds like something one would expect to find on a Falkenbach release.

This band is a must to check out if you have not already. If you are wary of NS bands, don’t let this stop you as you will be missing out on something really special.

Europe to szwedzki zespół rockowy założony w Upplands-Väsby w 1979 roku przez wokalistę Joeya Tempesta i gitarzystę Johna Noruma . Zespół osiągnął sukces, wygrywając telewizyjny konkurs Rock-SM (Swedish Rock Championship), który po raz pierwszy odbył się w 1982 roku.
Europe zyskał międzynarodową sławę w latach 80. XX wieku dzięki trzeciemu albumowi , „The Final Countdown” , wydanemu w 1986 roku.
Jednak ich kariera początkowo borykała się z trudnościami, ponieważ wytwórnie płytowe, do których wysyłali dema, wymagały od nich obcięcia włosów i śpiewania po szwedzku zamiast po angielsku.
W 1999 roku członkowie Europe na krótko spotkali się ponownie, aby wykonać „The Final Countdown” i „Rock The Night” na koncercie w Sztokholmie . Cztery lata później w prasie ukazało się oficjalne oświadczenie, że zespół reaktywował się i pracuje nad nowym albumem. Zespół ponownie zjednoczył się w składzie na album „The Final Countdown” , a John Norum oficjalnie powrócił do zespołu jako jedyny gitarzysta prowadzący. Joey Tempest powiedział w wywiadzie, że od dawna chcieli jego powrotu. Dodatkowym powodem był fakt, że Key Marcello był zbyt zajęty własnymi projektami i nie interesowało go granie w europejskim stylu .
W 2004 roku zespół z sukcesem wystąpił jako gwiazda na festiwalu Sweden Rock , a 22 września tego samego roku ukazał się nowy album „Start From The Dark” , tego samego dnia, w którym John Norum został ojcem. Album sprzedał się w nakładzie 600 000 egzemplarzy, ale osiągnął jedynie miejsca na czterech listach przebojów. Joey Tempest nazwał album „re-debiutem” zespołu, ze względu na unowocześnienie brzmienia i zmianę gatunku. Podobnie jak „The Final Countdown” , został on wyprodukowany przez Kevina Elsona . Dwa lata później ukazał się „Secret Society” , który trafił na pięć list przebojów.
21 lipca 2009 roku były basista zespołu, Marcel Jacob, popełnił samobójstwo w wieku 45 lat.
W 2023 roku zespół ogłosił trasę koncertową z okazji 40. rocznicy istnienia , zatytułowaną „Time Capsule” , obejmującą koncerty w 8 krajach europejskich. Trasa rozpoczęła się 30 września 2023 roku w Lozannie w Szwajcarii, a zakończyła 26 października 2023 roku w Londynie w Anglii.
Od momentu powstania zespół wydał 12 albumów studyjnych, 3 albumy koncertowe, 3 albumy kompilacyjne i 24 teledyski.

In keeping with the deluxe package in which it appears, Ray Robertson’s essay for the 50th Anniversary Edition of Grateful Dead’s From The Mars Hotel is one of the best in the series. Prose, as amiable as it is passionate, is also most insightful in its observations on the state of the iconic band circa 1974. Plus, it’s personalized: the author’s self-designation as a ‘headphone head’ will resonate with those similarly inclined music lovers (and bring a knowing grin to their faces!).

Naturally, the first disc of the three here includes the original album. Music remastered by David Glasser displays an enveloping, tactile presence, content ever-so-slightly expanded with demo versions of “China Doll” and “Wave That Flag.” This track sequencing reaffirms the pragmatic solidity of the original eight cuts; the latter is an early incarnation of “U.S. Blues,” while the former is as touching in its own way as Phil’s doom-laden co-authoring with Bobby Peterson’s “Unbroken Chain.”

Those alternately whimsical and tormented touchpoints come to life with the high-contrast instrumental additions of Ned Lagin’s synth on the aforementioned “Chain” and John McFee’s pedal steel on the same writing team’s “Pride of Cucamonga.” While the band had not yet become as (overly) self-conscious about studio work as it would later in its career, the recordings of From The Mars Hotel are less transcendent than simply utilitarian. Perhaps that’s because the prolific stream of original material dating back to 1970 was dissipating.

Or maybe, as the essayist hints, there were concerns more practical than artistic in this endeavor (the possible ‘inspiration’ for the decidedly desultory likes of Bob Weir and John Perry Barlow’s “Money Money”?). That state of affairs may have also engendered the overly playful (and abruptly concluded) likes of “Loose Lucy,” hearkening a bit too closely to both “Tennessee Jed” and “He’s Gone,” the innate bounce in the tune nevertheless allows depiction of the ensemble’s nimble navigation skills with Bill Kreutzmann as the sole drummer.

Regardless, From The Mars Hotel did bequeath regular insertions of its material into live setlists, two of which reside within the show that comprises the remainder of this panoramic collection of songs. In a subliminal pairing of topical compositions, “U.S. Blues” and “Ship Of Fools” bookend the track sequence on the main LP and, as such, they function as cautionary tales about the world at large, perhaps no more or less effectively than when placed within the twenty-two concert selections from the initial road appearance of the legendary ‘Wall of Sound.’

Taking place within a month or so of the release of the seventh Grateful Dead studio album on 5/12/74 in Reno, Nevada, Bill ‘Kidd’ Candelario’s engineering misses only the opening offering of Chuck Berry’s “Promised Land.” And while that shortfall is minor in and of itself, hearing the near four hours duration otherwise delineates why neither Robertson nor archivist David Lemieux goes into great detail about the performance: unlike the comparably mammoth but wholly stirring Lyceum Theatre, London, England 5/26/72, sparks fly throughout the concert, and embers smolder near the end, but no flames ever catch.

Preceding and following the progression from “Truckin'” into “The Other One” and a somewhat amorphous attendant jam, the Dead otherwise flourish throughout with concise takes on a broad range of material (as smoothly as 1977?) including “It Must Have Been The Roses,” “Jack Straw” and another Chuck Berry tune “Around And Around.” But the closer that is “Sugar Magnolia” never quite reaches euphoric heights, despite some of the most energized piano playing Keith Godchaux ever contributed to the sound of the Grateful Dead (similarly engaged likes of which appear throughout).

Skewed stage banter suggests an oddly disjointed group mindset during this outdoor concert. It’s conceivable that fatigue set in toward the conclusion of the performance. Or maybe the new sound system was taking some getting used to. Regardless, the ultimately muffled impact of the show as a whole intimates why this release was ideal: flaws aside, it is fully complementary to the studio set.

Complete and comprehensive as is this 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, the cover art not only expands upon the original graphics of the album but also distinguishes itself from its similarly-designed predecessors in the milestone series. Relegating the colorful but bizarre figures of the bandmembers to inside the triple-fold digipak, the front 3D image appears on the outer sleeve in a flat finish, embossed in such a way it begs for close perusal.

An ever-so-accurate reflection of the Kelley/Mouse Studios work that graced other Grateful Dead albums (as well as much poster art of the Sixties), such multiple perspectives also reside at the heart of the sound inside, at its best moments.

The second in the on-going series of three box sets celebrating the life and times of this incredible musician in the concert arena.

This 10-CD collection includes the first batch of John’s Live albums each with bonus tracks (where available) which have been fully re-mastered by Andy Pearce.

Also included is extremely rare and hard-to-find bonus material which has been especially curated by Rick Nelson, long-time Wetton archivist and John’s close friend. This material is a treasure trove of wonders for the true Wetton fan.


Presented in a compact box, this collection also features an extensive booklet with notes written by Jerry Ewing, and artwork by Michael Inns, long-time friend, and collaborator of John’s.

From his beginnings in the genre defining King Crimson, to the inventive, early prog supergroup UK, to the all-conquering prog-pop behemoth that was Asia and the many projects in-between, John Wetton was revered as a colossus of the progressive rock world.

Not only did he front three of the most successful progressive rock bands of all-time, John also enjoyed stints with Roxy Music, Family, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash. His list of collaborators is a veritable Who’s Who of the rock music world. In addition, John released no fewer than six solo albums! Thus, he is rightly seen as a true song writing visionary and one of the greatest bass players that ever lived.

This box set has been carefully curated with the blessing of John’s wife Lisa and son Dylan and is released with the full support of the Wetton estate.

From the committed prog connoisseur to the prog-pop fan of Asia, Wetton’s appeal is broad and deep. This extensive collection is the perfect entry point to appreciating and understanding the many colourful facets of John Wetton’s musical personality and is the perfect illustration of his extraordinary life.



Here we have the second in a planned series of three boxed sets featuring John Wetton's live albums, and having long been a fan I admit I already have most of the ones included here. Seven albums spread across 10 discs, 124 tracks with a total running time of more than 10 hours, this was a labour of love to get through as it is a great deal of listening, yet I enjoyed every second of it. The albums have been fully remastered by Andy Pearce, but there are not too many bonus cuts, so if you already have these then you need to think hard as this is not a cheap set. The booklet is extensive, with notes written by Jerry Ewing, plus lots of photographs, but I must confess that while the Wetton biography is fascinating and incredibly detailed, I would rather have heard more about the concerts included herein. As one would expect we get material from Asia, King Crimson and UK as well as his solo albums, and the live sets included here are 'Heart of the Dragon', 'Landmarq (Live In the Netherlands', Live In Tokyo 1997', 'Live In Tokyo II 1997', 'Nomansland', 'Sub Rosa (2024 Redux)', 'Live At the Sun Plaza Tokyo 1999 (2024 Redux)', and Andy Pearce has done a great job in ensuring the production is clear and clean with the sound levels nicely balanced across all discs.
Back in the Nineties John may not have been selling out mega stadiums as he had done at other times in his career (I remember seeing him play in a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere), but his musicianship and vocals are in top form. The discs are placed in order, from 1994-1999, and John is the only constant, although Dave Kilminster plays on seven of the discs (the next closest is Martin Orford with five). Wetton had played on so many important and classic albums/songs that he could have easily played a set with none of his solo material included, but here he mixes them in with songs from his career to loud applause, and rightly so.

There is an album in this set which I had not previously come across, 'Landmarq (Live In the Netherlands' which was recorded on November 26th1995, and the reason for the album title is that his band that night was Landmarq (well, mostly). Apparently, John undertook a tour that year which involved getting local bands to be his musicians, and Landmarq were asked to play a date in Germany and two in Holland. However, keyboard player Steve Leigh was unavailable, so they asked Martin Orford (IQ/Jadis) to step in instead. Given that Martin then played with John for years it shows how well it went. So the line-up was Uwe D'Rose (guitar), Steve Gee (bass, fretless bass - he only played when John was on acoustic) and Dave Wagstaffe (drums) from Landmarq, Martin Orford (keyboards) plus Tracy Hitchings on backing vocals. Also included in this set is my favourite Wetton live album of all time, 'Sub Rosa', an album I loved when it was released and I still play to this day, and this has two additional songs not on the original! What makes this such a wonderful concert is that it was recorded in an unusual venue, the mediaeval Castle of Vigevano, and was primarily an acoustic gig with no drums, with John joined just by Dave Kilminster (guitar, vocals) and Martin Orford (keyboards, flute, vocals). There is a huge amount of space within this album, and songs such as "Heat of the Moment" are truly transformed, so very different indeed to what we have all come to know and expect, with the hidden beauty laid bared for all to hear. This concert took place the day after John's wife had given birth to his son, so needless to say he was full of emotion, and it comes out in the performance. This is not bombastic, but the total opposite, allowing the songs to speak for themselves, and it is very strange indeed to hear the likes of "Soul Survivor" with two acoustic guitars, piano, and just the odd electronic keyboard, with the three vocals joining together as one. The version of "Arkangel" we hear is much closer to the original demo by John Young, and even though there are a few issues with the introduction they soon settle down and allow John's vocals to be front and centre.

There is indeed a lot of listening here, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and for any fan of Wetton this is essential.

The second in the on-going series of three box sets celebrating the life and times of this incredible musician in the concert arena.

This 10-CD collection includes the first batch of John’s Live albums each with bonus tracks (where available) which have been fully re-mastered by Andy Pearce.

Also included is extremely rare and hard-to-find bonus material which has been especially curated by Rick Nelson, long-time Wetton archivist and John’s close friend. This material is a treasure trove of wonders for the true Wetton fan.


Presented in a compact box, this collection also features an extensive booklet with notes written by Jerry Ewing, and artwork by Michael Inns, long-time friend, and collaborator of John’s.

From his beginnings in the genre defining King Crimson, to the inventive, early prog supergroup UK, to the all-conquering prog-pop behemoth that was Asia and the many projects in-between, John Wetton was revered as a colossus of the progressive rock world.

Not only did he front three of the most successful progressive rock bands of all-time, John also enjoyed stints with Roxy Music, Family, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash. His list of collaborators is a veritable Who’s Who of the rock music world. In addition, John released no fewer than six solo albums! Thus, he is rightly seen as a true song writing visionary and one of the greatest bass players that ever lived.

This box set has been carefully curated with the blessing of John’s wife Lisa and son Dylan and is released with the full support of the Wetton estate.

From the committed prog connoisseur to the prog-pop fan of Asia, Wetton’s appeal is broad and deep. This extensive collection is the perfect entry point to appreciating and understanding the many colourful facets of John Wetton’s musical personality and is the perfect illustration of his extraordinary life.



Here we have the second in a planned series of three boxed sets featuring John Wetton's live albums, and having long been a fan I admit I already have most of the ones included here. Seven albums spread across 10 discs, 124 tracks with a total running time of more than 10 hours, this was a labour of love to get through as it is a great deal of listening, yet I enjoyed every second of it. The albums have been fully remastered by Andy Pearce, but there are not too many bonus cuts, so if you already have these then you need to think hard as this is not a cheap set. The booklet is extensive, with notes written by Jerry Ewing, plus lots of photographs, but I must confess that while the Wetton biography is fascinating and incredibly detailed, I would rather have heard more about the concerts included herein. As one would expect we get material from Asia, King Crimson and UK as well as his solo albums, and the live sets included here are 'Heart of the Dragon', 'Landmarq (Live In the Netherlands', Live In Tokyo 1997', 'Live In Tokyo II 1997', 'Nomansland', 'Sub Rosa (2024 Redux)', 'Live At the Sun Plaza Tokyo 1999 (2024 Redux)', and Andy Pearce has done a great job in ensuring the production is clear and clean with the sound levels nicely balanced across all discs.
Back in the Nineties John may not have been selling out mega stadiums as he had done at other times in his career (I remember seeing him play in a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere), but his musicianship and vocals are in top form. The discs are placed in order, from 1994-1999, and John is the only constant, although Dave Kilminster plays on seven of the discs (the next closest is Martin Orford with five). Wetton had played on so many important and classic albums/songs that he could have easily played a set with none of his solo material included, but here he mixes them in with songs from his career to loud applause, and rightly so.

There is an album in this set which I had not previously come across, 'Landmarq (Live In the Netherlands' which was recorded on November 26th1995, and the reason for the album title is that his band that night was Landmarq (well, mostly). Apparently, John undertook a tour that year which involved getting local bands to be his musicians, and Landmarq were asked to play a date in Germany and two in Holland. However, keyboard player Steve Leigh was unavailable, so they asked Martin Orford (IQ/Jadis) to step in instead. Given that Martin then played with John for years it shows how well it went. So the line-up was Uwe D'Rose (guitar), Steve Gee (bass, fretless bass - he only played when John was on acoustic) and Dave Wagstaffe (drums) from Landmarq, Martin Orford (keyboards) plus Tracy Hitchings on backing vocals. Płyta zatytułowana Danceteria stanowić będzie jednocześnie hołd dla Dave’a Balla zmarłego kilka miesięcy temu… Album Danceteria jest jednym z ostatnich materiałów, nad którymi pracował Dave Ball. Ostatnie miksy zostały ukończone zaledwie dwa dni przed jego śmiercią i dwa miesiące po jego ostatnim występem na żywo z Soft Cell. Muszę się Wam przyznać, że chwilę mi zeszło, zanim debiut Oraculum zaskoczył – nie od razu bowiem z „Hybris Divina” skoczyliśmy sobie w ramiona. Mimo, żem przecież Oracle i byłoby to logiczne, prawda?

Dobra, jebać ksywkę, którą se wymyśliłem na szybko prawie dwie dekady temu – zajmijmy się rzeczami poważnymi, czyli muzyką. Bo ja do muzyki podchodzę bardzo serio i odnoszę wrażenie, że osoby stojące za tym tworem również. Część z nich jest zresztą znana ze świetnego Wrathprayer, więc możecie już podejrzewać, że to nie są pierwsi lepsi muzykanci, którzy nagle odkryli w sobie miłość do death metalu. Bo „Hybris Divina” to przede wszystkim właśnie metal śmierci, ale nie stroniący też od innych gatunków, głównie mam tu na myśli black metal. Czy black/death metal. Bo pomimo, że całość zaczyna się powolnym intro w stylu numeru zamykającego Czwartą Krucjatę Bolt Thrower, to bardzo szybko przechodzi w inspirowany poniekąd twórczością Bolzer „The Great One”. Oczywiście jak każdy szanujący się death metalowy band nie mogą być pod wpływem takich bandów jak bardzo wczesny Morbid Angel czy Asphyx lub wspomniani już Brytyjczycy. A chwilami Grotesque albo Possessed… Przy czym u Oraculum cały czas poza wzorowaniem się na innych bandach przebija się pierwiastek prawdziwego szaleństwa, choć z początku nie jest on taki oczywisty i łatwo uchwytny.

Tak, moim zdaniem „Hybris Divina” wymaga od słuchacza sporej uwagi. Dużo dobrego tutaj się dzieje – ta płyta jest bardzo riffowa, natomiast poza nimi na pewno nie umkną waszej uwadze obłąkane wokale, cholernie silny punkt tej płyty. No i kunszt kompozytorski, bo Oraculum kreuje na debiucie specyficzną, z jednej strony dziką, z drugiej – niepokojącą atmosferę. I jeszcze jedno przychodzi mi do głowy – cały krążek trwa czterdzieści minut, co już samo w sobie jest niezłym timingiem jak na mój gust, natomiast słucha się go jeszcze bardziej płynnie, niczym EPkę. Autentycznie kilkukrotnie się zdziwiłem, że materiał tyle co się zaczął, a tu znów wjeżdża wspomniane otwarcie w postaci „A Monument to Fallen Virtues”.

Choć podkreślam, że jest to krążek nie najłatwiejszy, jeśli mówimy o death metalu. Podejrzewam, że będą osoby które się od niego odbiją. Ja dałem „Hybris Divina” czas i nie żałuję – polubiłem się z tym krążkiem. Zdecydowanie poświęćcie mu więcej niż trzy – cztery przesłuchania, jest tego wart.

Oracle


Oraculum pochodzą z Chile. Możliwe, iż część z was ich pamięta, bowiem zespół wydał już pod banderą Invictus Productions dwie EP-ki, a było to circa dziesięć lat temu. Na nagraniu debiutanckiego pełniaka trochę zatem chłopakom zeszło, ale wiadomo, że na dobre rzeczy warto czekać. A „Hybris Divina” na pewno się do takiej kategorii zalicza. To czterdzieści minut, z haczykiem, staroszkolnego death metalu. Tym razem bardziej europejskiego, niż typowego dla Ameryki Południowej. Nie rozpływając się zbytnio, można od razu rzucić kilkoma nazwami, choćby Morgoth, Asphyx, Sadistic Intent czy Repugnant. To oczywiście orientacyjne drogowskazy, bowiem gdyby zabawić się w analityka, tych strzałeczek byłoby zdecydowanie więcej. Grunt, że jest to granie zdecydowanie w klimacie lat dziewięćdziesiątych, bez zbędnych udziwnień, czy szukania w death metalu tego, czego zawierać nie powinien. „Hybris Divina” to album oparty na ciężkim riffowaniu. Ciężkim, w tym konkretnym przypadku wcale nie oznacza szybkim, choć Chilijczykom kilka znacznych przyspieszeń też się po drodze trafia. Większość materiału to walce o średnim tempie, często wyhamowujące na zakrętach. Oraculum przypomina machinę bojową, która naciera przed siebie, niszcząc przeszkody bardziej za sprawą masy, niż technicznego kombinowania. Nie brak tutaj masywnych harmonii, będących kwintesencją stylu, ale i melodii. Ta, wpleciona została w całość bardzo nienachalnie, z odpowiednim wyważeniem, tak, by muzyka Oraculum nie straciła na tym ani grama ze swojego ciężaru. Podobnie zresztą jak partie solowe, pojawiające się dokładnie tam, gdzie pojawić się powinny. Całość brzmi wyśmienicie, dzięki czemu odór grobu i palonego prochu unosi się nad tymi nagraniami niczym mgła nad bagnem o poranku. Panowie z Chile doskonale znają klasykę, i doskonale potrafią ją kultywować. Jeśli szukacie w muzyce czegoś nowego, to możecie sobie te piosenki z czystym sumieniem odpuścić. Jeśli w waszych sercach nadal płonie ogień rozpalony trzydzieści pięć lat temu, sięgajcie po nie bez wahania. „Hybris Divina” to kolejna wartościowa czaszka dorzucona do ogromnego kopca o nazwie Staroszkolny Death Metal. Polecam.

Dark, imposing death metal reaches for a sharp juxtaposition between the superhuman and the horrendously surreal. The bludgeoning simplicity of early Bolt Thrower, siren wailing, toneless guitar leads and all, is elevated to a place of epical grimness via a sharp melodic flair that, although hardly complex or original, is delivered with a conviction and intention that marks this release out from garden variety cavernous death metal.


The production is strikingly bottom heavy, placing an enormous weight on the listener’s shoulders. Drums are submersed at the low end, the rhythmic pulses and the occasional disruptive fill being felt rather than perceived. Their guiding influence over the album is ever present but peripheral, an invisible hand manipulating the flow of each piece. The bass ridden guitar tone dominates the mix, filling out the sound with an enormous, dirge ridden soundscape of militaristic power, a mystically distant hostility as opposed to an all too human visceral aggression. Reverb drenched guitar leads offset all this low end with striking statements of power that earn their austere packaging within scant note handfuls through their dominance over the music, and the striking contrast they form with the throbbing riffs beneath. Vocals are a strained, half-clean hardcore derived bark. A technique that is becoming increasingly common (a sign of distortion fatigue?), but here they work in the music’s favour as if to emphasise an interplay between human endeavour and divine indifference.

Despite moments of raucous speed, Oraculum are strikingly tentative in how they pace these tracks out, making the flow torturous rather than chaotic. The blitzkrieg of buzzing guitar noise is forever frustrated in its momentum by the relentless patience of the drums as they frequently pull back to a more ponderous marching tempo or else purposeful doom segments. Each central theme is simple yet characterful, weaving a thread between amoral power, gothic splendour, and a more sadistic intention signposted by choppier accents and licks. Worked through this is an undeniably sorrowful poise which works as commentary on the central, macro level violence of each piece.

The more deliberate pacing allows Oraculum to build purpose into each crescendo, creating a clear centrepiece to each track that is slowly worked up to, and feels more rewarding as a result. A moment of climax reached, the music is then released from its chains and allowed to cascade out in tumultuous bursts of relentless, muscular death metal. A pre-1990 vintage granted more power and significance thanks to the modern, but undeniably characterful mix, alongside Oraculum’s clear penchant for creating a sense of occasion, reaching back to the epics of antiquity to convey a sense of unknowable mysticism.

Dark, imposing death metal reaches for a sharp juxtaposition between the superhuman and the horrendously surreal. The bludgeoning simplicity of early Bolt Thrower, siren wailing, toneless guitar leads and all, is elevated to a place of epical grimness via a sharp melodic flair that, although hardly complex or original, is delivered with a conviction and intention that marks this release out from garden variety cavernous death metal.


The production is strikingly bottom heavy, placing an enormous weight on the listener’s shoulders. Drums are submersed at the low end, the rhythmic pulses and the occasional disruptive fill being felt rather than perceived. Their guiding influence over the album is ever present but peripheral, an invisible hand manipulating the flow of each piece. The bass ridden guitar tone dominates the mix, filling out the sound with an enormous, dirge ridden soundscape of militaristic power, a mystically distant hostility as opposed to an all too human visceral aggression. Reverb drenched guitar leads offset all this low end with striking statements of power that earn their austere packaging within scant note handfuls through their dominance over the music, and the striking contrast they form with the throbbing riffs beneath. Vocals are a strained, half-clean hardcore derived bark. A technique that is becoming increasingly common (a sign of distortion fatigue?), but here they work in the music’s favour as if to emphasise an interplay between human endeavour and divine indifference.

Despite moments of raucous speed, Oraculum are strikingly tentative in how they pace these tracks out, making the flow torturous rather than chaotic. The blitzkrieg of buzzing guitar noise is forever frustrated in its momentum by the relentless patience of the drums as they frequently pull back to a more ponderous marching tempo or else purposeful doom segments. Each central theme is simple yet characterful, weaving a thread between amoral power, gothic splendour, and a more sadistic intention signposted by choppier accents and licks. Worked through this is an undeniably sorrowful poise which works as commentary on the central, macro level violence of each piece.

The more deliberate pacing allows Oraculum to build purpose into each crescendo, creating a clear centrepiece to each track that is slowly worked up to, and feels more rewarding as a result. A moment of climax reached, the music is then released from its chains and allowed to cascade out in tumultuous bursts of relentless, muscular death metal. A pre-1990 vintage granted more power and significance thanks to the modern, but undeniably characterful mix, alongside Oraculum’s clear penchant for creating a sense of occasion, reaching back to the epics of antiquity to convey a sense of unknowable mysticism.

Siódmy, najnowszy album solowy Rogera Taylora. Roger Meddows Taylor (ur. 26 lipca 1949 w King’s Lynn) to brytyjski muzyk rockowy. Najbardziej znany jako perkusista grupy Queen, ponadto był wokalistą The Cross i nagrał pięć albumów solowych. Oprócz gry na perkusji, potrafi śpiewać mocnym głosem o ciekawej barwie. Niejednokrotnie występował jako główny wokalista w utworach Queen, np. „Rock It (Prime Jive)”, czy „I’m in Love with My Car”. Jest współtwórcą grupy i autorem przebojów, m.in. „Radio Ga Ga” i „A Kind of Magic”. Już od pierwszego albumu Queen pracował na sukces z całym zespołem, pisząc i śpiewając.
