..::OPIS::.. Kolaboracja Bardoseneticcube & Shinkiro. Bardzo mocny album! This is already the second collaboration album of Bardoseneticcube from Russia and Shinkiro from Japan, this time under their own names. The first disc "Four Noble Truths" was released under the combined title of Bashin on the French label Athanor in 2011 and was dedicated to the basic principles of Buddhist teachings. The meditative and contemplative subject continues here as well, now being focused on the aspects of inner and outer space. We submerge in the dark thick matter of sound, fluid, transparent and stratiform. Woven from abstract electronics, omnifarious samples and transformed voices, textures are smoothly interchanging, always showing new visions in the black mirror of our viewport. Makes you wonder - does the perceivable exist separately from the percipient? In any case this is dark, nocturnal, cosmic music, not devoid of epicism and dramatism. Worth having in your playlist for the next space travel! Very beautifully this year begins, with regard to ambient and dark ambient music. And in some cases very surprisingly. I remember that “Four Noble Truths” was a decent album, I gave it a very positive review a couple of years ago, but today I’d be lying claiming that I listen to it very often. The first composition made me think that this time it will be a similar situation, that it will be well produced music that I’ll enjoy during a couple of listens, but after a while I’ll put it back on the shelf and move forward to other musical creations. Ok, I can’t say right now, I’ll need much more time to see if “Inner And Outer Space” will stand the test of time, but right now after several listens I must say that it made quite an impression on me. It’s much more sophisticated than their first work. The tracks differ from one another. The pieces on “Four Noble Truths” were more or less similar in terms of construction, which is good for building up a monumental feeling, but after a while I realized that I had a problem focusing on the music within the space of the whole album. Maybe I’m getting old, I don’t know. Yet I’ve given about a twenty listens to “Inner And Outer Space” up to this day and so far I didn’t have such an impression after all. The whole consuming space is as overwhelming as absorbing of the listener’s attention with its diversity. “Fluctuations” though isn’t so enthralling, it’s a cosmic dark ambient which sounds like it’s made by the book, without any creative madness. Not the best opening in the ambient world and if I weren’t be so patient I could have taken a break after the first listening and left further contact with the album for the indefinite “tomorrow”. Yet things started getting better and better later. “Evolution” sucked me in an infinite vortex with swirling cosmic winds, distant bells and low-tuned rumblings, later counterpointed by atmospheric, quasi-choir-like drones. Not very original, but somehow tantalizing with a deep cosmic secret. With “Inflaction” you cross the last point in timespace known to man. You can’t say what’s behind it, but at the same time can’t wait for the secret to reveal itself. You need to check it for yourself. This track is less intense. Once again a wind-like background and stellar calls makes me feel like I’m surrounded by a flickering darkness with no limits. If had to choose one track from the album that you all should listen to, it would be “Afterglow”, with a constantly growing tension, weird sounds swirling and whirling, accompanied by this ever absorbing drone and reverbed synth micromelodies. Once again, it’s a huge and powerful piece of music, but this time also sparkling with some vague sadness. A longing for home. Luckily “Dark Ages” has nothing to do with dull medieval dark wave – I feel ashamed that I even thought about that. Not at all, this one is like watching the nebulas’ beauty through a telescope. There’s something like a grotesque alien transmission once or twice during these eleven minutes, but it doesn’t disturb the somehow soothing feeling of the track. Yes, I think I can say it. This album is far better than “Four Noble Truths”. It’s like the extension of those ideas, taking them to a slightly different direction. Sure, it’s nothing new within the genre, there’s a lot of sounds and passages that I feel are familiar from other albums. Even this “Dark Ages” in some moments reminds me of “Passing Inner Shields” by you-know-who. So it’s not visionary (then again, what is in dark ambient these days), the mystery lies not in the sound itself, but in your imagination being stimulated by the music, the music which is a perfect craftmanship of two musicians who know exactly what they want to achieve.~(santa sangre magazine) ~Bardoseneticcube is a dark ambient/industrial project from St. Petersburg. Now with Bardoseneticcube, you never really know what you’re going to get, so let’s see how these two artists work together. “Fluctuations” opens with the kind of spacey dark ambient that I have come to expect from Zhelezobeton. “Evolution” keeps this feel going with the moving of tectonic plates and warbling synth. Reminds me of older Lustmord and Rapoon. “Inflation” is where we begin to see the synthesis of these acts. Like the previous tracks, it begins peacefully, with slowly shifting synth notes that hold for several measures at a time. But this is all an illusion, as it becomes progressively harsher as the track evolves. This is what you hear right before you cross the event horizon. After another interlude of spacey ambient in “Afterglow,” we move to the conclusion in “Dark Ages.” Heavily processed, sped up robot voices, a woman holding out one note, and bits of timpani all help to bring the spacy drone down to earth. This is the chaotic element of Bardoseneticcube that I enjoy. Overall, this is quite enjoyable and makes me interested to hear more from Shinkiro. This album weighs in at around 52 minutes and is limited to 333 copies. ~ (CHAIN D.L.K.) ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Fluctuations 12:33 2. Evolution 09:46 3. Inflation 10:17 4. Afterglow 09:04 5. Traffic to brytyjska grupa rockowa założona w kwietniu 1967 roku, utożsamiana z ruchem hippisowskim. W pierwotnym składzie występowali Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood i Dave Mason. Po dwóch latach i wydaniu trzech płyt - Mr. Fantasy, Traffic i Last Exit - nastąpiło pierwsze zawieszenie działalności grupy. Steve Winwood i Ric Grech, były basista zespołu Family, uformowali efemeryczną supergrupę Blind Faith, czasami nazywaną SuperCream, gdyż pozostałymi jej członkami byli Eric Clapton i Ginger Baker. W 1970 roku Blind Faith rozpadł się, a Steve Winwood i Ric Grech zasilili kolejną supergrupę - Ginger Baker’s Air Force - jednakże po kilku wspólnych koncertach Steve Winwood i Ric Grech postanowili reaktywować Traffic. Wstawka zawiera debiutancki album zespołu. Title: Mr. Fantasy Artist: Traffic Country: Wielka Brytania Year: 1967 Genre: Rock Format / Codec: MP3 Audio bitrate: 320 Kbps ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. ..::OPIS::.. Obcowanie z tym debiutem jest jak strzał prosto w ryja zakończony deptaniem jaj po upadku na podłogę!!! 'Summoned to Rise features some of the fastest, catchiest, darkest, meanest, smartest, most intricate thrash fucking metal to come down the pike in years. No letup. No duds. Just a fiery, eponymous opening volley. (...)' - Decibel Magazine 'Insane old school riffs for all your moshing needs, Jeff Hanneman style squealing solos (which made the hair on my arm stand up at points), brutal vocal deliveries that at times walk the line of really solid Death Metal vocals, and a ton of intense outstanding drumming throughout. Everything works on this album, from lyrical content, to the tone of the music, and of course that break neck pace the vast majority of the record offers.' - Hellbound.ca '‘Summoned to Rise’ is a an all out assault that takes no prisoners! Fast songs, brutal thrash and death metal riffage and blast beats…..What more could you ask for?' - Metal Nexus When is it appropriate to employ the term ‘supergroup’? Could it be in the instance of new Floridian act Create A Kill? Featuring members of Malevolent Creation, Gruesome and Solstice – this unstoppable supergroup was always gonna make an impact based on the line-up alone. However, little were our ears prepared for the onslaught that was to come on debut album Summoned To Rise. Not just in terms of pure fury, but also the sheer quality. The overall sound of Create A Kill is a perfect mesh of the previously-mentioned three bands, but with an unhealthy dose of Demolition Hammer injected into the death/thrash assault. This is raw, blistering, violent, nasty shit. And boy, do I love it! Not only do these Floridians exhume pure malice, they do it in a way that’s weirdly accessible and…dare I say it…catchy! Hell, if the chorus to “Premeditated” hasn’t got you hooked after one playthrough, there’s something wrong with your brain. These memorable hooks provide moments of clarity amid the sheer maelstrom of this album. Riffs cut like razors, solos insanely channel their inner Kerry King, blast-beats pound at your brain – and the whole affair is wrapped in a chaotic vibe that just about keeps in control. The way everything sounds like it’s teetering on the edge of composure is exciting and irresistible. The varied vocal attack contributes to this massively. Although I’m unsure exactly which vocal style is performed by who, the combination of vile high shrieks, powerful low growls and Schuldiner-esque mids creates a real death/thrash party atmosphere. The production quality is absolutely spot on, bringing back that raw, authentic early ’90s spirit. The cut-throat guitar tone is both grisly and fun, but the snappy bass/snare mix is utterly gorgeous. This is what Demolition Hammer’s Tortured Existence should have sounded like! Summoned To Rise is the definition of ‘all killer, no filler’. Every single cut delivers the madness at a blistering pace with not a second wasted. Even the mid-tempo segments are loaded with impact, such as the opening riffs to “Cold Blooded” and “Reap The Whirlwind”, or the verses in “Gauntlet Of Pain”. In fact, my favourite moments are the slower ilk which hit you like a fucking steamroller (see “Decimated” – what a sledgehammer of a track!). Structurally, this album flows beautifully – mixing the faster and slower sections, though never losing a single ounce of barbarism. As previously stated, there are memorable hooks and standout moments abound on this album. These guys have a penchant for writing catchy death/thrash metal that doesn’t compromise the style or cheapen the brand. “Crave The Blade”, “Premeditated” and the hammering “Show Of Force” are all great examples of how this sub-genre can be accessible for newcomers whilst pleasing the elitists. However, the jewel in this record’s crown is the bonus track – dedicated to late Malevolent Creation frontman Bret Hoffman – “Flesh, Blood & Stone”. When Matt Harvey bellows out ‘FLESH AND GOLD AND BLOOD AND STEEL AND FUCKING STONE!!’, you know Bret himself would have been majorly proud of this LP. Create A Kill should be proud of this effort. Really proud. I cannot pinpoint any specific aspect that weakens it. Summoned To Rise is simply an incredible slice of no-holds-barred death/thrash metal that will have any fan of the genre headbanging like it’s 1989. Larry6990 ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. To make public a mass of unreleased material I decided to wrap this musical collection into a box. These 10 CDs (and a DVD) include over five hours of unreleased materials, my three previously released solo CDs (‘solo’, ‘twice around the earth’ and ‘there and back again’); plus a double CD collection of tracks spanning 50 years of official recordings (It Makes Sense to Me), as well as the 22-hour radio programme I made for Radio Art Zone last year (that’s on the DVD). 36 hours. Comes with 2 fat books of documentation, artwork, photographs, published and unpublished texts. for the avoidance of all confusion: of the 5 CDs of 'unreleased materials', 100 copies of 4 of them were privately printed for japan (as CC100, 200, 300 & 400), so a few of you may have them. Mainly it's just meant to be good to listen to: surprising, serendipitous, mundane - but alien, the commonplace transfigured - an agglomeration of inadvertent sounds made haphazardly by the world and some of its inhabitants that were never meant to survive, and certainly not to be listened to repeatedly. And yet - they seem to add up. I listened to this many times and it keeps changing, though it can't. I don't understand it, but I like it. As a whole it's very different from 'Twice', though both share some locations (taken at different points) making reading across the two CDs another dimension of listening. ..::TRACK-LIST::.. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI
..::OPIS::.. Definately, at least to me, an improvement over their debut, this was finally the EARTH BAND that found their sound. No more of that New Orleans-type of stuff here, this is definately a more progressive album. Having been familiar with "Solar Fire" for much longer than I had this one, I am amazed how several of the songs on this album reminds me of "Solar Fire". For example, "Meat", which features Chris Slade doing the same kind of drumming as he would later do on "Earth, the Circle Part 2". "Look Around", "Our Friend George" and "I'm Gonna Have You All" all sound like they could fit nicely on "Solar Fire". I really like some of those heavy guitar solo found on "Look Around". The band also did a couple more "down to earth" numbers here. One was "Down Home", with a rather down home feel, almost like The BAND. The other being "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", a Bob DYLAN song which was pretty much what you expect on an EARTH BAND album up until 1975. Also you get a re-recording of a MANFRED MANN Chapter III song, "One Way Glass" (originally on their 1969 debut), but of course this version has all the horns removed and done in the EARTH BAND fashion (including a Moog solo at the end). I own the American LP which has a black cover with the EARTH BAND logo (this was the first EARTH BAND album to feature that logo), rather than white like you expect on the British version on the Philips label. This is probably my second favorite EARTH BAND album outside of "Solar Fire". Proghead ..::TRACK-LIST::.. CD 2 - Glorified Magnified (1972): 1. Meat 4:03 2. Look Around 5:10 3. One Way Glass 4:07 4. ..::OPIS::.. Sześciopłytowy zestaw zawierający antologię kultowej brytyjskiej grupy. Znalazły się tutaj albumy: "Help Yourself" z 1971, "Strange Affair" i "Beware The Shadow" z 1972, "Return Of Ken Whaley", "Happy Days" i "Help Yourself 5" (wydany dopiero w 2004) z 1973, a także solowy album lidera zespołu Malcolma Morleya "Lost And Found", nagrany w 1976 z towarzyszeniem grupy Plummet Airlines, którego taśmy-matki zaginęły i odnalazły się po latach, a następnie zostały wydane w 2002 roku. Wszystkie nagrania zremasterowano, a całość znajduje się w sztywnym pudełku, z książeczką z niepublikowanymi wcześniej zdjęciami i wywiadami oraz plakatem. - A NEW 6CD REMASTERED BOXED SET ANTHOLOGY FEATURING THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS BY THE UNSUNG HEROES OF BRITISH EARLY ‘70s ROCK, HELP YOURSELF - FEATURING 66 TRACKS ON 6 CDs INCLUDING THE ALBUMS HELP YOURSELF, STRANGE AFFAIR, BEWARE THE SHADOW, THE RETURN OF KEN WHALEY / HAPPY DAYS, THE ALBUM FIVE & MALCOLM MORLEY’S 1976 ALBUM LOST & FOUND (BOTH UNRELEASED FOR THIRTY YEARS) ALONG WITH A PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED BBC SESSION & DEMO. - REMASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL ALBUM MASTER TAPES - INCLUDES AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK WITH EXTENSIVE ESSAY WITH PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN PHOTOGRAPHS AND INTERVIEWS & A POSTER Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of PASSING THROUGH – THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS, a 6CD boxed set by the unsung heroes of British early ‘70s rock, HELP YOURSELF. The band was formed in London in 1970, originally as a backing band for singer-songwriter MALCOLM MORLEY and took their influences from American West Coast Country and Acid Rock. After Morley signed to the Famepushers management stable, his manager John Eichler suggested Morley form a new band and HELP YOURSELF was born. Featuring MALCOLM MORLEY (guitars, keyboards, vocals), former Sam Apple Pie member DAVE CHARLES (drums, percussion, vocals), RICHARD TREECE (guitars, vocals, harmonica) and KEN WHALEY (bass), the band signed to United Artists in 1970 and their eponymous debut album was issued in 1971. Following a tour with label mates Brinsley Schwarz and Ernie Graham (also Famepushers artists), Ken Whaley departed the band. An expanded line-up including Ernie Graham and Jonathan Glemser began work on the album STRANGE AFFAIR in 1972, but Graham and Glemser’s departure half-way through the recording saw roadie Paul Burton join the band to complete the album, (which would include the excellent extended track “The All Electric Fur Trapper”). The band embarked on a tour of Switzerland with Welsh rock legends Man and a bond formed between the two groups. The band’s next album, BEWARE THE SHADOW, was an even stronger effort, featuring the Help’s twelve-minute anthem, “Reaffirmation”, a track that displayed the instrumental excellence of the group. Prior to a tour to promote their most recent album Malcolm Morley fell ill with depression and DEKE LEONARD, recently dismissed from Man, took his place. When Morley recovered, Leonard remained with the band, appearing with them on the CHRISTMAS AT THE PATTI concert in Swansea in December 1972. In early 1973 Deke Leonard departed the band to pursue a solo career and the band began work on the album HAPPY DAYS, a record that also featured THE FLYING ACES (featuring former MAN bassist MARTIN ACE and his wife George) and VIVIAN “SPIV’ MORRIS and spawned a touring musical review featuring all the musicians. Paul Burton’s departure during these sessions saw Ken Whaley return to the band. Work then commenced on another album, THE RETURN OF KEN WHALEY. Both albums were released as a package by United Artists later that year. Although critically acclaimed, commercial success continued to elude the band and Help Yourself were dropped by their record label. A fifth album was recorded at Chipping Norton Studios in Oxfordshire in 1973 but this failed to gain a release for over thirty years. The aborted album led to Help Yourself disbanding, with Malcolm Morley and Ken Whaley joining Man in 1974 for their album Winos, Rhinos and Lunatics. Following his departure from Man, Malcolm Morley recorded a solo album in 1976 that would also remain unreleased for thirty years. Over four decades on, HELP YOURSELF are now regarded as one of the great, unsung British bands of their era and the songs of Malcolm Morley are recognised as true treasures. PASSING THROUGH – THE COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS is a lovingly compiled boxed set which gathers together the albums HELP YOURSELF, STRANGE AFFAIR, BEWARE THE SHADOW, THE RETURN OF KEN WHALEY / HAPPY DAYS, the unreleased album FIVE , all the band’s non-album singles & Malcolm Morley’s unreleased album LOST & FOUND along with a previously unreleased BBC session & a studio demo. The set is newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an illustrated booklet with rare photographs and a new essay with interviews and a poster and is a tribute to the inspirational music of HELP YOURSELF. Esoteric More of the same for Help Yourself on their second album, for the most part. Bassist Ken Whaley had taken his leave, replaced by former band roadie Ernie Graham on guitars and vocals (although Whaley would return a couple years later with the band naming their fourth album in his honor). Graham penned the only non-Malcolm Morley track on the first two albums, the strumming and west coast-flavored “Movie Star”. Otherwise most of these tracks are quite similar to the debut, at least most of them. The band would put together their first full- length psych jam here with the ten minute rambling “Excerpts from the ‘All Electric Fur Trapper’”, which would only be topped during their career by the even longer and more improvisational “Reaffirmation” on the ‘Beware the Shadow’ release. The instrumentation is the same: a couple of guitars, piano, bass and drums. Pub band fare for the most part, but Help Yourself had a knack for coming off as just vaguely enough like several ‘A’ list bands to sound like they were a bit more accomplished than what they probably were. The title track for example has a jaunty piano intro and lumbering tempo that bears a striking resemblance to a fair amount of Joe Walsh’s solo stuff; even the theme, something about a classy chick picking up a bum in a bar, sounds like something Walsh would have penned. “Brown Lady” leans quite heavily into Ambrosia or Firefall territory with its strumming acoustic guitar, almost invisible bass line, and disjointed amorous lyrics. The Graham track “Movie Star” fits quite well in between the Morley tunes, but with harmonizing vocals that recall Buffalo Springfield or even CSN; while “Deanna Call and Scotty” has a Morley vocal track and piano accompaniment that could easily have been inspired by any number of tracks from ‘Abbey Road’, or maybe even some of the early seventies albums from the Beatles Lite (ELO). The band moves back into pub rock with “Heaven Row”, even to the extent of including female harmonizing vocal backing. And the closing “Many Ways of Meeting” has a real “Let it Be” feel to it but without any kind of heavy lyrical undercurrent of meaning. But the stand out track is the aforementioned “Excerpts from the ‘All Electric Fur Trapper’”, a lightly psychedelic and slow- developing instrumental that weaves in acoustic picking, electric strumming, fuzz, and some odd keyboard effects with a couple minutes of undisciplined jamming that sounds awfully acid-inspired. The result is one of those space-out songs that is best listened to in early dusk while lying on the hood of your car in a park somewhere. Peaceful, easy stuff, and probably brought the lighters out when it was played live at festivals back then (assuming it was played live at festivals, which I’m sure it was). The next couple albums would be a bit heavier than this one, which is a bit heavier than the debut. But in reality these guys can be easily lumped with Man, pre-Laurie Wisefield Wishbone Ash, or Home. In other words British pub rock that aspires to be a bit more, and is inexplicably very west coast leaning in its execution. Decent stuff, probably not progressive, but worth a listen unless you are a prog purist. Three stars. ClemofNazareth ..::TRACK-LIST::.. CD 2 - STRANGE AFFAIR (remastered edition) Released in 1972: 1.
