Regardless of how compatible this music is to your tastes, Christ--the Album is a great auditory epic of punk, politics, and protest. On each successive album Crass became less of a conventional punk band and more of a balls-out artistic unit. From the beginning, their albums were unconfined by the pressures of commercial appeal and conventional structure. Christ is a Dadaist collage of noise and statement: the utmost expression of the Crass project of multimedia agitprop. Without doubt, this hour-and-a-half monster is sprawling and disorienting. Like all other Crass albums though, this one engages the audience on more than a few levels and refuses to let go.

The first half is a basically a complete studio album in the Crass tradition of snarling belligerence towards church, state, patriarchy, and pretty much everything else. Unfortunately, this batch of songs isn't the best I've heard by the band. It's good Crass if you like the band, but there are no 'White Punks on Hope' or 'Banned From the Roxy'-caliber tracks. Each song commences with an audio clip with some ironic weight and then goes on to blast anarcho-punk venom for two or three minutes.

The second half is a whack-ass compilation of mostly live material and some spooky studio stuff with a liberal sprinkling of weird sound clips for good measure. The rendition of 'Big A Little A' and the early track 'I Can't Stand It' have always been the most engaging for me, but the other tracks are a fascinating/confounding ride through a production studio gone haywire.

I suspect Christ the Album is as close to the Ludovico Technique that a pop album will ever reach. Like all Crass albums, it simply is what it is. They don't care if you like this album or not, and they probably don't even want you to like it either. This just happens to be the largest slice of the anti-art pie that Crass so lovingly baked in the early-80's.

Compiled at Southern Studios throughout the recording of Christ - the main body is a 4-track recordig made on 9th June 1981 by the Real Time Music at the 100 Club, London. Voice-over on the track 1 is by Mitch of the now defunct Radio Caroline. One Hand is adapted from a traditional Zen tale. Track 9 which includes Heart-throb Of The Mortuary and track 19 I Can't Stand It were our first efforts in a studio, whose name none of us can remember, recorded in the summer of 1977. Heart-throb was later played on a pirate radio station (whose name we also can't remember) and it was from this broadcast that the track is taken. Heart-throb and I Can't Stand It include Steve Hermann who, before being replaced by Phil Free, was our lead guitarist. Track 18 includes a cassette recording of the band live at Action Space in Central London on November 16, 1977.

This re-issue has been re-mastered from the original tapes and includes additional out-takes and a second disc featuring the live recording of their June 1981 gig at the 100 Club in London along with other studio tracks, demos, radio broadcasts and cassette recordings.

...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI...


Początki 23 THREADS sięgają połowy lat 90. kiedy Marek X. Marchoff mieszkał jeszcze w Ciechanowie. Wówczas zarejestrował w pierwszym składzie materiał „Magija”, który został opublikowany na CD-r przez Perun Records. Po tej publikacji 23 Threads zagrało jedynie dwa koncerty, aby później zawiesić działalność, a Marek zajął się swoim macierzystym projektem Different State, z którym działa aktywnie do dzisiaj. Po namowie Macieja Mehringa z Zoharum postanowił powołać 23 Threads ponownie do życia, aby grać krautrock-macabre folk.

Najpierw zaczął poszukiwać odpowiedniej wokalistki. Poznał Ingrid Swen w sklepie wspólnego przyjaciela. Ich drogi skrzyżowały się, gdy Ingrid również szukała muzyków, z którymi mogłaby współpracować. Wkrótce rozpoczęli próby, podczas których stwierdzili, że brakuje im basisty. Pomyśleli więc o Rafale Janusie, z którym Marek grał wcześniej, w innych projektach.

W tym składzie muzycy zaczęli nagrywać materiał, który znalazł się na krążku ‘Conspicuous Unobstructed Path’ (opublikowany przez Zoharum w 2015 roku).
Marek Marchoff był jedną z czołowych postaci rodzimej sceny industrialnej. Muzyk zmarł w 2020 r.

To już piąty album tej niezwykle intrygującej formacji prowadzonej przez gitarzystę Mariusza Sobańskiego. Czemu tak pochlebnie wypowiadam się już na wstępie mojej analizy? Choćby dlatego, że na wieść o każdym nowym projekcie tej grupy mam zawsze bardzo żywe wspomnienia z wcześniejszą twórczością, która nigdy mnie jeszcze nie zawiodła. Projekt, którego się nie zapomina. Projekt, do którego jeśli nawet przez brak czasu się nie wraca to w pamięci pozostaje na zawsze, a retrospekcja nowego rozdziału twórczości przynosi niezapomnianą radość.

Tym razem, zespół postanowił spróbować swoich sił w rejestracji materiału na żywo, który nagrany został w studiu Polskiego Radia w Poznaniu imienia Krzysztofa Komedy – ojca chrzestnego polskiego jazzu i jej awangardy. Koncert sam w sobie nie byłby może nadzwyczajny, gdyby nie fakt, że zarejestrowane zostały podczas niego mocno rozimprowizowane rozwinięcia znanych wcześniej kompozycji, w których udzielają się bardzo żywiołowo wszyscy uczestnicy tego muzycznego wydarzenia. To fakt bardzo kluczowy, bo ile oryginalne kompozycje z poszczególnych wydawnictw dyrygowane są pod twardą ręką lidera, to ostatni album jest potwierdzeniem, że pozostali członkowie grupy nie są w tym projekcie z przypadku. Niemniej jednak warto nadmienić, że grupa została zdecydowanie uszczuplona, co nie znaczy, że straciła na swoim instrumentalnym bogactwie. Niespodziewany dodatek w postaci eklektycznego wibrafonu zdecydowanie zmienił oblicze wielu z prezentowanych utworów dodając mu mniej zawadiackiego wizerunku i przynosząc nieco bardziej klasyczne brzmienie (Tokyo Streets Symphony). Nie brakuje tu nawet partii skrzypiec, które swoją płynnością dodawały poprzednim produkcjom elokwentnego anturażu.

Album o tyle istotny, że potwierdza mocny zwrot ku muzyce wyzwolonej od matematycznych aranżacji, które jednak trzeba przyznać nigdy nie wydawały się w tym projekcie sztywne. Koncert sam w sobie jednak potwierdził jak dużą rolę w kwestii tego projektu ma znaczenie swobody kompozycyjnej struktury. Co najciekawsze, muzyka mimo dość złożonych motywów w sercu improwizacji nie gubi swojego oblicza i nie błądzi w kierunku, który rozmydlałby myśl przewodnią kompozycji (Test of Personality). Muzyczne improwizacje mają to do siebie, że mimo technicznej rozrzutności tracą emocjonalny kontakt z motywem przewodnim. Przy Light Coorporation trudno uwierzyć, że dynamika z jaką płyną kompozycje nie jest uprzednio rozplanowana. Z pewnością zaplanowane zostało jednak oddanie hołdu Krzysztofowi Komedzie nawiązując do jego kompozycji Ballad For Bernt z filmu „Nóż w wodzie” Romana Polańskiego (Le Voyage Au Coeur De Reves).

Na większą część zagranych kompozycji przypadają te z „Rare Dialect” (2011). Trzeba przyznać, że oniryczna atmosfera „64:38 Radio Full Liv(f)e” świetnie wyzwoliła z tych utworów subtelną rolę eksperymentalizmów, które jednak w przeciwieństwie do oryginałów wydawać by się mogło, że zdecydowanie bardziej spoufalają się z samą harmonią dźwięku i rzadko odskakują w rejony muzycznej atonalności. Nie znaczy to jednak, że gubią się w homogenicznej interpretacji linii melodycznych. Bynajmniej, detaliczne dociągnięcia poszczególnych instrumentów barwnie prezentuje odrębne odcienie brzmienia i ekspresji często zachaczającej o fusionowe inspiracje (Cocoon, Maestro X). Doskonale zinterpretowana została tu dramaturgia kompozycji, które wyzwalają z siebie niebywałe emocje (Invisible World). Tekstura samego brzmienia jest jednocześnie bardzo klarowna i zdecydowana w dominacji poszczególnych instrumentów mimo dość oszczędnego podejścia do rozwoju struktury poszczególnych kompozycji. Muzyka przez wzgląd na szerokie improwizacje nie została tu jednak zbita ze swojej konkretności aranżacji, chociaż przez fakt odpowiednio zorganizowanej przestrzeni i naturalności brzmienia nie zabiła swojej impresjonistycznej konwencji, która skłania słuchacza do indywidualnych interpretacji (Hipotypoza). Mariusz Sobański po raz kolejny potwierdził artystyczny kuraż wymowy swojego projektu przedstawiając, właściwie dobrze znane nam kompozycje, z których wyszarpnięta została – można rzec – całkowicie inna eskpresja. Psychodelia została tu okryta szlifem melodycznej sublimacji, a improwizacja zakwestionowała swoje oblicze niesubordynowaych dźwięków, które nie mają większego znaczenia wobec reszty repertuaru. Utrzymany został balans artystycznej wypowiedzi, który nie łatwo osiągnąć, zwłaszcza podczas występu na żywo. Chyba już to napominałem, ale powtórzę. Light Coorporation to w tym momencie jedna z najbardziej niekonwencjonalnych oraz inspirujących formacji jakie istnieją na rynku. Mam wrażenie, że w ich przypadku nie jest nawet możliwe strącić wciąż wyżej postawioną poprzeczkę. Może być tylko lepiej!

Konrad Puławski

This is the fifth album by the excellent Polish ensemble Light Coorporation, led by guitarist Mariusz Sobański. This lineup of the ensemble features also saxophonist Paweł Rogoża, vibraphonist Mariusz Gregorowicz, bassist Krzysztof Waśkiewicz and drummer Miłosz Krauz. The album was recorded live in the Polish Radio studio in Poznan, which is named Krzysztof Komeda Studio after the Godfather of Polish Jazz, who made his early recordings there. The ensemble performs seven original compositions, all composed by the leader.

The music presents reworked versions of compositions that previously appeared on the ensemble's first and third albums and completely improvised pieces credited to all five members of the ensemble. This album definitely marks a shift towards improvised music, taking the ensemble further away from their initial Progressive Rock and Fusion image. This constant chameleonic ability to change the musical approach has been one of the greatest assets of Light Coorporation since their inception.

Although instrumentally limited only to five instruments, the ensemble creates wide and diverse sound structures. The addition of the vibraphone (Gregorowicz is the only new member of the ensemble who did not appear on any of the previous albums) changed the overall sound significantly, bringing it even closer to traditional Jazz sound. I have no idea if Sobański was influenced by the presence of the vibraphonist Jerzy Milian as a member of the early Komeda combos, when he decided to add vibraphone to this new lineup, but whatever the reason was, it had a major influence on the overall result.

As already stated above this album emphasizes Free improvisation, which constitutes a major part of the music. However, the music is still very coherent and based on composed parts, which enables the listener to follow up the developments without getting lost within the havoc that is often projected by Improvised Music projects. Some basic riffs and electric guitar parts go back to the Fusion idiom, but everything here is more hinted than explicitly stated, which of course makes life interesting for the listener.

Overall this is another superb release by Light Coorporation, which is surely one of the most interesting, unconventional and sadly underrated ensembles active in Europe today. The album was released again on the prestigious British ReR label, which consistently supports the band. I wholeheartedly recommend to open-minded listeners to investigate this album, as well as the previous releases by Light Coorporation, as they all are still completely valid and lost nothing of their original charm. Well done again!

To co dzieje się na tej płycie przeszło moje najśmielsze oczekiwania. Jest to jeden z tych albumów, który zawsze gra od początku do końca w całości.

There’s very few albums in my life that have had a huge impact in not only my music tastes but also on a emotional level. “Reign In Blood”, “Number Of The Beast”, “By Inheritance”, and finally “Horrorscope” are some examples that had that effect on me. “Horrorscope” was my first experience with Overkill and was an album that got me through hard times in my personal life and ever since then Overkill has remained my favorite band. Before I discovered “Horrorscope” I was already well educated in bands such as Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer (who was my favorite band before Overkill); you know, the popular stuff. But once I found “Horrorscope”, thanks to my brother handing it to me in a music store, my musical tastes grew tenfold.

Something about this record just popped out to me and was noticeably different from everything I’ve listened to thus far. Everything from the Merrit Gant and Rob Cannavino’s twin guitar attack, Sid Falck’s technically impressive drumming, D.D.’s distinct bass lines, and Blitz’s unique shrills and screams sent shivers down my spine and has changed my tastes in music forever. I don’t believe there’s one weak moment on this album as everything flows perfectly from shredding riffs to slower doom influenced song structures to mid-paced thrashing. I personally think the flow of this album works a little better than the previous album, “The Years Of Decay”, as it is more refined.

“Refined” is honestly the perfect word I can use for “Horrorscope” as I believe it really does refine the best elements that was found on the previous album. In my review for “The Years Of Decay” I stressed how varied the songs were by having all the speedy thrash riffing you’d ever want while injecting doom metal, a ballad, a punk influenced song, and more technically impressive mid-paced songs. “Horrorscope” has all of that but I believe does it just a little better. “Horrorscope” embodies all the best characteristics that it’s comparable, “Playing With Spiders / Skullcrusher”, has while focusing much more on that doom atmosphere than “Skullcrusher”. The same can be said for songs like “Thanx For Nothin’” and “Solitude” with their respective comparables being “I Hate” and “The Years Of Decay”. A natural progression for the bands sound and now with the introduction of 2 guitarists, it really does set up the difference between this album and the previous four.

Writing wise “Horrorscope” is chalk full of A+ soloing and riffing from Merritt Gant and Rob Cannavino who probably played their best performance here in their whole career. Sure, Bobby Gustafsons handy work isn’t here but I can’t say that Overkill “lost” their sound after he left as the writing proves that incorrect. Some of Overkills most distinct solos, and my personal favorites, are found throughout. From “Coma” with its dual shredding to “Blood Money” with its constant solos coming in and out of the song to “Nice Day....For A Funeral” with its solo starting off sluggish only to gain traction and speed as it goes, everything is exceptionally played and written. Hell, the cover to “Frankenstein” is handled extremely well. Honestly, I personally think this is Overkills most technical effort just under “Under The Influence”. There is just a big variety of song structures to be found here as Overkill utilizes the songs individual times to slow down the thrashing for a moving melodic grove and vice versa.

Sid Falcks presence here on the drums is absolutely stellar. I talked about how Sid really came into his own in “The Years Of Decay” but I think his best performance is to be found here. “New Machine” offers a lot of structural changes in the drumming as he goes in and out of tempo; going back and forth from speed to a slower tribal beat. Really, if you are drum lover, go listen to “New Machine”. The album is full of those type of drum tempo changes and Sid remains tight in execution. This would be Sids final album with Overkill but holy shit what a way to exit; nothing but phenomenal work on here and on the other classic albums he was apart of.

Getting to the bass, we get to D.D. Verni and his chunky bass lines. “Horrorscope” raises Verni’s bass in the production considerably more than it ever was (until W.F.O.). D.D. really goes to work here as he offers one of his most varied performances. Just as Sid and the rest of the musicians, there’s a lot of different tempo changes going on here on the album and I think that really benefits D.D.’s playing style. With songs like “Horrorscope” and “Nice Day...For A Funeral” that showcases his slow, thick groovey picking while “Live Young, Die Free” and “Infectious” offer something speedy licks, I’ll never understand why D.D. doesn’t get as much recognition he deserves.

Now we’re onto Bobby Blitz and his singing is as great as it ever been, maybe even a little better here than previously. Blitz’s screams and shrills are probably the best in the business but he’s not just a one trick pony as he does give a varied performance here. I always liked how he goes back and forth from his normal voice to a more melodic singing in “Blood Money” as it gives the listener a little more vocal variety and goes great with the riffing. “Soulitude” gives us a more intimate performance from Blitz just as “The Years Of Decay” did but I really love how the song begins to amp up, then slow it back down while adding a very tasty solo to top it off. Besides Blitz’s vocals, I believe lyrically the songs have some of the best writing they’ve done thus far. The songs focus on death, despair, or even saying goodbye and I believe that’s all intentional as the album is masked in thick, dark atmosphere which I find more so than “The Years Of Decay”. Blitz just really gives it his all on “Horrorscope” and I personally think this is his best performance in the bands 30 plus history.

After covering all the writing and performances I think the production is in need of talking about. Terry Date comes back to “Horrorscope” after he worked on the previous album and he really hits it out of the park here; improving his skills since “The Years Of Decay”. Everything’s clear, loud, and crunchy but isn’t over produced and just sounds natural. I’ve read some complaints that certain things were either too loud or quiet such as D.D.’s bass or Blitz’s vocals for a few examples and I don’t hear those issues here at all. You can hear everything while also not having one instrument or Blitz’s vocals take over the mix. I mean, compare “Rust In Peace” that came out a year before where the cymbals are too loud and Dave’s voice sounds low in many places within the mix and you’ll hear it’s night and day in quality. Terry’s production hits you right in the face with everything equally and it’s probably one of the best produced thrash albums of all time.

I’ve heard other criticisms such as the songs not being memorable compared to previous material, nothing really sticking, or not being as interesting as the previous albums and I’m not sure where these criticisms come from. “Horrorscope” is full of interesting riffing and some of the best solos in the genre while songs like “Coma”, “Bare Bones”, and “Live Young, Die Free” offer that itch that previous songs such as “Elimination” and “Rotten To The Core” have but surrounded by a much darker feel and vibe to them. The use of tempo changes within the individual songs are done just a little better than “The Years Of Decay” and really changes the dynamic; keeping things interesting.

“Horrorscope” is a land mark of the genre, offering fantastic performances, excellent writing, and a terrific production. With alternative and grudge on the rise at the start of the 90s, Metallica putting out “The Black Album” the same year as “Horrorscope”, and thrash metal taking a dive in popularity; it almost feels cathartic how well made “Horrorscope” is, especially after Bobby Gustafsons departure. I truly do believe that “Horrorscope” is the best album that the band has put out and really ranks up there with other classic albums from their contemporaries which honestly, can be said about Overkills previous four. It’s not the most complex album nor is it the fastest but it is extremely well written and excellently preformed which is what is the most important thing about creating music.

If I could give “Horrorscope” a 105% I would as I think this is an album that surpasses “The Years Of Decay” (which I gave it a masterpiece status with 100%) just by a smidge. If “Horrorscope” can cause a divide in the metal community, most importantly the thrash metal community, on which album is better between this and TYOD then there must be something there to cause that divide. From “Feel The Fire” to “Horrorscope”, Overkill produced probably one of the strongest collection of thrash classics out of the genre and with the classic era of the genre coming to an end in the 90s Overkill truly gave that classic era of thrash with “Horrorscope” a bang to end on.

Parafrazując jedno z najbardziej znanych haseł polskiej myśli encyklopedycznej – „Amorphis jaki jest, każdy słyszy.” Finowie od wielu już lat pozostają zakonserwowani w swojej niszy, będącej wypadkową modern metalu i melodyjnego deathu, doprawionego szczyptą brzmień symfonicznych. 14. album zespołu (będący jednocześnie ósmym nagranym z udziałem Tomiego Joutsena) z grubsza poza tę ścieżkę nie wykracza, idąc wiec na łatwiznę, na tym stwierdzeniu mógłbym recenzję Halo zakończyć.

Za bardzo jednak ten zespół lubię (nie po to też słuchałem tej płyty dobrych kilkanaście razy), żeby się z wami swoimi spostrzeżeniami nie podzielić.

Spostrzeżenie pierwsze: muzycy Amorphis próbowali. Próbowali dodać do swojej muzyki wyraźne elementy progresywności, atmosfery znanej z pierwszych albumów, czy nieoczywistych melodii, do których trzeba ucho przyzwyczaić. Z tego względu Halo nie jest płytą tak prostą jak np. poprzednia, a niektóre smaczki potrafi przy pierwszych podejściach skrzętnie ukryć.

Spostrzeżenie drugie: próby nie zawsze są udane. Dla przykładu synkretyzm w otwierającym Northwards (folkowe melodie, klawiszowe solo, kobiece chóry, growlowane partie) wypada bardzo dobrze, jednak już np. w uderzającym w podobne tony On The Dark Waters odbija się to na ładzie i spójności (choć sama solówka jest w tym numerze bardzo ciekawa). O ile łamanie metrum w The Moon fajnie utwór urozmaica, o tyle War już na tym patencie niestety traci. Innymi słowy – chęci były, nie zawsze jednak pozwoliły osiągnąć pożądany skutek.

Spostrzeżenie trzecie: są na krążku numery, które zrywają papę z dachu (doskonale The Moon, A New Land, When the Gods Came, The Wolf), są jednak i takie, w których zespół zalicza wtopę, zdecydowanie (nawet jak na swoje standardy) przesadzając ze słodyczą (tu wspomniałbym o tytułowym Halo i słabiutkim My Name is Night). W ogóle Halo sprawia wrażenie płyty bardzo radosnej i mieniącej się pozytywnymi barwami. Miejscami brakuje jej surowości znanej choćby z Eclipse, Silent Waters, Skyforger, czy Under the Red Cloud.

Nowa płyta Amorphis to dobry (momentami nawet bardzo dobry) krążek, niewystrzegający się jednak potknięć i słabostek. Zdradzający zakusy bycia ambitniejszym niż poprzednik, jednocześnie pozbawiony iskry, która wznieciłaby ogień zdolny wyraźnie rozświetlić horyzont. Fani najpewniej przytulą do serca, reszta może, choć niekoniecznie musi.

XIV Krajowy Festiwal Piosenki Polskiej w Opolu

Koncert Marka Grechuty i Anawa w 1976 roku wymaga dokładnego umiejscowienia w czasie.Można zapytać: Marek Grechuta i Anawa? W 1976 roku? Wszakże legendarna formacja zakończyła działalność pięć lat wcześniej, a oba artystyczne filary zespołu –Marek Grechuta i Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz – poszli własnym drogami. To prawda.

Ale nie minęło pięć lat, a dwóch krakowskich artystów połączył ponownie twórca genialny i szalony: Witkacy. Grechuta i Pawluśkiewicz zabrali się za komponowanie musicalu SZALONA LOKOMOTYWA. I ponownie pracowali wspólnie, zafascynowani materiałem literackim, który potraktowali z iście postmodernistyczną swobodą –wykroili patchwork dramatycznych fragmentów i oprawili je muzyką. Szaloną.

W ciągu minionych pięciu lat obaj twórcy skutecznie realizowali się w indywidualnych projektach. Grechuta założył Grupę WIEM i nagrał dwa doskonałe albumy solowe:DROGA ZA WIDNOKRES (1972) i MAGIA OBŁOKÓW (1974). Nagrywał kolejne „złote przeboje”,w oryginalny sposób mierząc się ze współczesną poezją (Gdziekolwiek) i rozwijając działalność stricte autorską także jako poeta (Godzina miłowania).

Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz przedłużył współpracę z formacją Anawa o jeden album i stworzył jedną z najbardziej oryginalnych płyt polskiego… rocka: ANAWA (1973). Rolę wokalisty przyjął na ten jeden raz Andrzej Zaucha, a wśród wielu porywających utworów znalazł się przebój Linoskoczek(Tańcząc w powietrzu). W połowie lat 70. kompozytor rozpoczynał także –trwający do dzisiaj – romans z muzyką teatralną i filmową, tworząc ścieżki dźwiękowe do dzieł w reżyserii m.in. Tomasza Zygadły i Janusza Zaorskiego (rozpoczął także stałą współpracę z Feliksem Falkiem).

Premiera musicalu SZALONA LOKOMOTYWA w reżyserii Krzysztofa Jasińskiego odbyła się latem1977 roku w namiocie Teatru Stu w Krakowie. Marek Grechuta wcielał się w postać Belzebuba, towarzyszyła mu, występująca gościnnie z teatrem, Maryla Rodowicz. Następnie musical (w tym nieodłączny namiot) ruszył na tournée po Polsce, entuzjastycznie przyjmowany choćby przy ul. Towarowej w Warszawie, gdzie występy artystów stały się kulturalną sensacją. Album z nagraniami z musicalu ukazał się w tym samym roku. Warto o tym pamiętać, kiedy słuchamy całej niemal SZALONEJ LOKOMOTYWY w wykonaniu poprzedzającym o pełne dwanaście miesięcy oficjalną premierę tego wielkiego wydarzenia teatralnego i fonograficznego.

Koncert w opolskiej Szkole Muzycznej w dniu św. Jana 1976 roku był imprezą towarzyszącą XIV KFPP w Opolu. W skład zespołu Anawa weszli, obok pianisty i aranżera Pawluśkiewicza,zupełnie nowi muzycy. Świetny krakowski skrzypek Michał Półtorak znany był już z występów w Piwnicy pod Baranami. Perkusista Marian Bronikowski zasilał popularną formację jazzową Extra Ball. Ale kluczem do brzmienia nowego zespołu Anawa A.D. 1976 stał się udział braci Pawła (gitara) i Krzysztofa (gitara basowa)Ścierańskich. Ci dwaj młodzi wirtuozi od 1975 roku grali w zespole Laboratorium, jednej z najciekawszych formacji fusion w historii polskiego jazzu.

A jak zabrzmiała ta nowa Anawa? Nieomal w niczym nie przypominała tej dawnej. Muzyka zespołu charakteryzowała się oszczędnością, wręcz minimalizmem (co było w duchu albumu DROGA ZA WIDNOKRES), zważywszy więc na „romantyczność” aranży dawnych piosenek, musiały one ulec radykalnej zmianie. I uległy. Koncert otwiera awangardowa Kantata. Złote przeboje reprezentują m.in. Dni, których nie znamy i Twoja postać (ta ostatnia piosenka broni się wyjątkowo dobrze w „okrojonej” orkiestracji). Nic nie tracą Krajobraz z wilgą i ludzie oraz Wędrówka.

Znalazły się tutaj utwory premierowe: Ikar (do wiersza L.A. Moczulskiego), Historia pewnej podróży (genialna przypowiastka filozoficzna Grechuty) i Muza pomyślności – już wkrótce kolejny wielki hit Grechuty w duecie z Teresą Iwaniszewską-Haremzą. Uroczą ciekawostką jest „eksportowa wersja” Godziny miłowania, przygotowana specjalnie na występy na Kubie (gra basisty to zaiste latynoskie szaleństwo, zaś leniwy śpiew całego zespołu zabawnie kontrastuje z gorącymi rytmami).

Jednak trzon repertuaru tego koncertu stanowi cały nieomal materiał SZALONEJ LOKOMOTYWY,prezentowany po raz pierwszy w aranżacji z jednej strony surowej w stosunku do instrumentalnych fajerwerków, jakie miała przynieść gotowa płyta z musicalem, z drugiej – materiał w zasadzie gotowy, zawierający już wyrafinowane aranżacyjne niuanse przypisane kolejnym kompozycjom. Gorąco zachęcam do porównania tych wczesnych wersji z gotowym dziełem, wznowionym niedawno w zremasterowanej wersji przez Polskie Radio w ramach „Antologii” Jana Kantego Pawluśkiewicza(vol. 3 „Marek Grechuta”). Szalona muzyka o sile lokomotywy!
