I have always had a soft spot for MMEBs early 70s albums, the later period (from 'Watch' an later) being to "easy-listening" for my taste. However, as a LIVE band, now that's a different story. The role of Mann & co as composers of prog music may undoubtedly be argued, the best tracks on their albums have (almost) without exceptions been cover tunes. Very good covers, though. MMEBs interpretation and arrangement of Dylan and Springsteen classics are nothing but superb music to my ears, and on this album we are served with the best MMEB can offer: many of their best cover tunes in LIVE recordings. Much of the material is from their 1976+ period, but that's OK with me in this context because the versions are good, the live atmosphere is there, the live 'glitches' and improvisations are all there. All in all, a highly recommended album for both newcomers to MMEB as well as the rest of us who love to hear them live.

This third live album of the Mann is not significantly different from the other ones but slightly better overall.
OK, it is a double one which could mean that the fan would get the chance to get a full concert available. But there is nothing as such.

The second CD is called "Encore & More". Not the best way to describe a live set...Half a concert and about half of repeated tracks BUT in a shorter format for most of the song.

Some exception like the great "Shelter From The Storm" from their latest studio album (Vengeance) which is by far my fave track from this second CD. And to have two versions of the very average Marley "Redemption Song" is not a great experience.

I have never liked "Demolition Man": nor "The Police" original, nor the Mann studio version, nor any live versions. On the contrary of course of a jewel like "Blinded By The Light". A great pop song, with feeling like I enjoy a lot. And the shorter version works very well since it avoids some useless repetitions.

But there are other enjoyable songs on this live album like "Davy's On The Road Again" with its heavy & pumping organ play, the hard and soul-ish "The Mighty Quinn" and a good (but not exceptional) rendition of "Father Of Day, Father Of Night" (even if the great guitar of the studio version is not really on par). The fully expanded version of "Blinded" on the first CD is also well achieved. As the spacey instrumental She Was (one of my fave, but too short).

There are also some down points, unfortunately (Nothing Ever Happens, Sikelele).

All in all, this is probably the best Mann live album available. Three stars.

The Mann and his Earth Band were not very active any longer. Almost ten years between their latest studio release ("Masque") and this one. What else can seriously bring the Mann?
One is impressed with the opening number: "Pleasure And Pain": the melody is beautiful, vocals very performing and there is a superb guitar work, like during their hey days. It took a while to the Mann to release a song from this caliber. I'm glad that it finally came out.

The second good piece is the poignant instrumental "Adults Only". Fine keys work, aerial mood and pleasant melody. There won't be many tracks like this one unfortunately. The energetic "Miss You" can be integrated into the few good songs from "Soft Vengeance"as well as the pop "Nature Of The Beast" and its Springsteen-oriented vocals. This closes the package of decent songs available.

I am not at all as laudatory with their cover of the Stones number "Play With Fire". The original rock feeling has smelt into a messy pop/reggae-ish oriented tune. Press nextT. As the album flows from one song to another, one has to recognize that the fire of the opening track has been extinguished quite abruptly.

It is a long and poor procession of cheesy tracks ("Nothing Ever Happens", "The Price I Pay"), mellowish ones ("Shelter From The Storm", "Tumbling Ball") and the funky/disco "The Complete History Of Sexual Jealousy" and "99 Lbs" are not my cup of tea to say the least.

I am also quite perplex when I listen to "Wherever Love Drops" (part 1 which lasts for less than a minute and part 2 which is double this length.). As you can see, this album has not very much to offer (except the brilliant opener and a couple of good songs).

If I do the math, it makes four good songs out of fourteen (23 points out of seventy on my scale). I'll upgrade it to two stars but be warned, we are not facing a good album.

A gap of almost 10 years betwen this one Soft vengeance released in summer of 1996 and Masque from 1987, diffrent decades, diffrent aproach , musicaly. This album sounds mature, mid tempo almost all the time, fine arrangements, very skilfull musicians, but not in the way of show of all the time how strong and good I am, subltle arrangements define this album. I realy like this album, ok is quite diffrent then the predecesor Masque, this is more on rockier side, the progressive elements are all over the place but melted in other way then before, almost a calm album , toying in places with AOR sound, but not very proeminent like other bands. After so many years some of the fans and not only could not expect very much from the master MM, but here it is a solid album, ok far from being a masterpiece, but very enjoyble for sure from capo al fine.Some intristing keybords here, that from the first note anyone will recognize the master. Again cover versions, A Rolling Sones one , Playing with fire here sounds quite ok to me, The Complete History Of Sexual Jealousy is very refreshing to my ears, I don't understand why is so bad view this piece, Tumbling Ball. Noel McCalla voice fits ok in this kind of sound, he appear few years earlier on Plain music from 1991 also a Manfred Mann album but not under Earh Band this time. The rest of the musicians are in ok form, Roger , Thompson the veteran on drums from Jethro Tull early years Clive Bunker did a good job. So , a pleasent album all the way, not so well trieted here, the ratings and overall note is quite low, but the album sounds ok, even great in places, so why complaining from my side, I like it , I'm a big fan of the band and have almost all they released, minus a copule of live albums, so this one stands ok in my collection, is not a completionists item for sure. 3 stars easy, good album but not realy something of an intrest if you don't know MMEB before works.

Supertramp to angielski zespół rockowy prezentujący w swej twórczości elementy progresywnego rocka, hard rocka i soft rocka. Grupa powstała w 1969 roku w Londynie. Formacja nadal nagrywa i koncertuje. Smash Mouth to amerykański zespół założony w 1994 w San Jose przez Steve’a Harwella, Grega Campa i Paula de Lisle’a, nawiązująca swoim stylem do muzyki z lat. 60. XX wieku. W 1997 roku, po występach na letnich festiwalach z No Doubt i Beck, zespół postanowił nagrać płytę. Po kilku miesiącach na rynku pojawił się krążek Fush Yu Mang z singlem Walkin’ on the Sun. Album Astro Lounge z roku 1999 okraszony został przebojem „All Star”. Piosenki Smash Mouth znalazły się na soundtrackach filmów: Shrek oraz Wyścig szczurów. Zespół przede wszystkim specjalizuje się wykonywaniu kultowych piosenek znanych artystów, m.in. utwór „I’m a Believer” zespołu „The Monkees”, utwór „Why Can’t We Be Friends” zespołu War, kompozycja „Getting Better” zespołu „The Beatles”, czy „Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” formacji „The Four Seasons”. Zespół często nagrywa jeden cover na jeden album studyjny. Największym jak dotąd sukcesem komercyjnym zespołu jest wydany w roku 1999 album „Astro Lounge. Originally released in 1998 through Repulse Records, Destined to Fail stands as the lone full-length statement from Massachusetts death metal cult Scattered Remnants -- a savage and uncompromising document of underground brutality that has only grown in stature over time.

Emerging from the same fertile American death metal underground that produced pioneers of brutal and groove-driven extremity, Scattered Remnants forged a sound rooted in primitive heaviness, suffocating atmosphere, and relentlessly punishing songwriting. While many late-90s death metal bands pursued increasingly technical approaches, Destined to Fail embraced raw aggression and crushing groove, delivering a barbaric style of brutal death metal that felt both filthy and devastatingly effective.

'Evil Reaping Death' to płyta, która brzmi jak odkryta perełka lat 90., a nie zupełnie nowe wydawnictwo. Gdyby tylko cały oldschoolowy death metal potrafił oddać to uczucie tak dobrze, jak Hexorcist...

Floridian death-thrashing horde Hexorcist will deliver their debut album on July 26th 2021 via Memento Mori Records, Unholy Prophecies and Godz Ov War Productions.

Ominous samples of a church bell begin our descent into chaos before the even more grisly theme of “The Shining” adds horror to the mix, this is certainly a foreboding entrance from Hexorcist. Blistering riffs fire in without warning alongside a maniacal slice of shredding and blastbeats, giving the onslaught an instantly ferocious energy of pure old school carnage, more akin to South American bands such as Sarcofago, Necrovore and the like than fellow Floridians. The dismally grim vocals perfectly suit the cutting music with bestial snarls that have a guttural edge which molds to the thick bass tone as the razor-sharp guitars cut the mix triumphantly. The sheer speed of the drums is fantastic and skilful with hammering fills to really hit the riff-fest home. There are some tight dynamics as slower sections give a sepulchral odour to the violence before crawling back from the abyss to unleash total annihilation to obliterating effect. Hexorcist is a new name to me, but their entrance is certainly memorable with a vitriolic beginning to the record, an energy that one can hope is consistent throughout.

Forging forward, the convulsing bass adds a gorgeously warped nuance below the bellowing guitars and drums, giving this a rather unique and less straightforward touch which still fits in with the total devastation of proto-death chaos. The merciless delivery is not only fearsome but also has plenty of groove that makes the purposeful ferocity easy to bang your head to while the corpse-rotting mayhem does not falter. With the instruments landing like sonic artillery and the vocals equally remorseless, the formidable attack is a pure and unfathomably intense execution of death metal in its most primal form. Naturally with this style of macabre music, the evil energies and spectral vibrations run rampant throughout the running time with a genuine flame of total Armageddon that cannot be escaped. There is no bells and whistles here, just an endless stream of ripping riffs, domineering drums, face-melting solos and beastly vocals with a decimating performance and production that lands the blasphemous blows with no respite.

A punishing, devastating and utterly maniacal piece of pure old school death metal that harkens back to the genres inception while not ripping off any particular band or trying to hard to create nostalgia, delivering a precise and monstrously morbid record with inarguable excellence.

Floridian death-thrashing horde Hexorcist will deliver their debut album on July 26th 2021 via Memento Mori Records, Unholy Prophecies and Godz Ov War Productions.

Ominous samples of a church bell begin our descent into chaos before the even more grisly theme of “The Shining” adds horror to the mix, this is certainly a foreboding entrance from Hexorcist. Blistering riffs fire in without warning alongside a maniacal slice of shredding and blastbeats, giving the onslaught an instantly ferocious energy of pure old school carnage, more akin to South American bands such as Sarcofago, Necrovore and the like than fellow Floridians. The dismally grim vocals perfectly suit the cutting music with bestial snarls that have a guttural edge which molds to the thick bass tone as the razor-sharp guitars cut the mix triumphantly. The sheer speed of the drums is fantastic and skilful with hammering fills to really hit the riff-fest home. There are some tight dynamics as slower sections give a sepulchral odour to the violence before crawling back from the abyss to unleash total annihilation to obliterating effect. Hexorcist is a new name to me, but their entrance is certainly memorable with a vitriolic beginning to the record, an energy that one can hope is consistent throughout.

Forging forward, the convulsing bass adds a gorgeously warped nuance below the bellowing guitars and drums, giving this a rather unique and less straightforward touch which still fits in with the total devastation of proto-death chaos. The merciless delivery is not only fearsome but also has plenty of groove that makes the purposeful ferocity easy to bang your head to while the corpse-rotting mayhem does not falter. With the instruments landing like sonic artillery and the vocals equally remorseless, the formidable attack is a pure and unfathomably intense execution of death metal in its most primal form. Naturally with this style of macabre music, the evil energies and spectral vibrations run rampant throughout the running time with a genuine flame of total Armageddon that cannot be escaped. There is no bells and whistles here, just an endless stream of ripping riffs, domineering drums, face-melting solos and beastly vocals with a decimating performance and production that lands the blasphemous blows with no respite.

A punishing, devastating and utterly maniacal piece of pure old school death metal that harkens back to the genres inception while not ripping off any particular band or trying to hard to create nostalgia, delivering a precise and monstrously morbid record with inarguable excellence.

'Esoterrorcult' to prawdziwe dzieło sztuki.
Jest nieskończenie mroczny i złowrogi, ale jednocześnie urzekający. Pustka na początku... na początku po prostu się w nią zanurzasz, ale po drugim czy trzecim przesłuchaniu zaczynasz dostrzegać aspekty i przekazy, skupiając się na ważnych rzeczach, a w końcu możesz je złożyć w jeden wielki obraz, jak obrazy Boscha...

As blasphemous and corrosive as it is, Karkosa's new album Esoterrorcult reaches a level of catchiness that blackened death metal rarely nails, but honestly could stand to reach more often. There's no tradeoffs happening here, as Esoterrorcult is big on impact and vile, crawling riffs--but the Indiana group's core offering comes with engaging trappings that only add to the experience. Somber spoken word interludes, near-operatic gang vocals, and massive production make every song memorable, though the band's dynamic songwriting plays a role there as well. It's interesting to hear scream-along-worthy lyrics next to exacting technical staccato riffs, but damn if it doesn't work here.

At first listen of Karkosa’s full length debut album Esoterrorcult released on Redefining Darkness Records, I must admit I was a little underwhelmed. Sure, it is a barrage of relentless warring guitars, growls, screams, howls, and machine gun blast beats that feels like being fully bulldozed by a speeding semi-truck full of wolverines, but it just sounded like that is all it was going to be. Been there done that if you will. Well, I am here to admit that I was being a total dickwad and my brutal black metal credentials were under serious question at the time. Esoterrorcult is all those wonderful or grim, blackened death metal things that we all love so much, but it is also so much more. Once this album’s hooks really dig in, it reveals itself to be a completely different animal full of more than just piss and venom. It is dissonantly complex, often with slight elements of tech death and layers of progressiveness that takes this so much further into the realm of nightmarish soundscapes. To be fair I was in heavy traffic the very first time I listened to this, so I was already distracted and highly irritable. Let us move on, shall we.

Formed in 2013, Karkosa are an aggressive black metal quartet hailing from Fort Wayne Indiana. Having released a highly touted EP Harvest of the Adept in 2018, the band showed serious promise from the start. Consisting of Alden Debee, Brenton Weaver (guitars), Ian Lemberg (drums) and Rafael Palacios (vocals), Esoterrorcult is an infernal coming together of blasphemous, corrosive, and violently dark black metal. You will be hard-pressed to find a more menacing as well as musically fresh example of this genre.

Right from the beginning of the record, track one, Encorcelled Spirits, bursts out of the speakers like an angry demon full of hellfire. A brief guitar intro last about nine seconds before a cacophony of blast beats and searing tremolo picked riffs flog the ever-living life from your body. A lone tortured scream over the fiery beginning riffs sets the mood of pure agony. This track alone tells the story of how varied this record really is. Guitar squawks, death metal riffs mixed with burning black metal speed, a huge singable chorus that is alarmingly hypnotizing, progressive sensibilities that changes the mood from violently possessed to grim darkness all come together in a way that feels completely organic. The vocal range from Rafael goes from memorable shrieks, and growls to spoken word and course yells. He truly sets this release off with tremendous vocal personality. The punishing drums from Ian hit extreme levels of destruction on tracks like Poison of God and Domini Sanctum. His insane fills are as lethal as his blast beats. The guitars of Alden and Brenton are full of hateful toxicity throughout the entire record but are at their highest point in tracks like Angelus Ejectiones, where hooky death metal riffs meet dissonant, frenzied black metal. Glorious from beginning to end.

Honestly, I could not be more impressed with how quickly this record showed me its true vile face. The production sounds massive as well as oppressive. By the second listen, one where I actually listened, I felt like I was in hell being ripped apart repeatedly, each time a little more complex and horrifying than the first. Esoterrocult is a brutal record full of hate, spite, malice, and engaging songwriting. Not to be missed.
