Tutaj najwcześniejsze ich nagrania, częściowo jeszcze z innym wokalistą niż ten którego wszyscy znamy. Pierwsze demo, flexi „Never Healed”, oraz debiutancki singiel „Thanks” i masa niepublikowanego materiału. Obok Ripcord czy Concrete Sox - kwintesencja ostrej muzy tamtych czasów. Digipack, książeczka, story, fotki – wydanie wypasione.


HERESY are one of the most influential UK Hardcore punk bands ever to exist. From 1985-1989 the band were one of the leading lights of the rapidly expanding UK Hardcore (Britcore) scene, and through their releases both for the then fledgling Earache label and through their own In Your Face imprint, their influence still lives on today, shown by the highly collectable prices paid for their long out of print back catalogue. Now, for the very first time, HERESY’s back catalogue has been totally remastered by Kalv Piper and Steve “Baz” Ballam from the band, and “1985-87” is the first of a trilogy of discography CD/LPs that Boss Tuneage will be releasing in the coming months. “1985-87” traces the early formative years of the band, from their previously unreleased 7 song demo tape from 1985, to the debut 6 track “Never Healed” flexidisc 7”EP, and the virtually-impossible-to –find 4 song “Thanks” 7”EP, rounded out with 2 additional previously unreleased tracks. Compiled with exhaustive and extensive sleevenotes from Kalv from the band, the packaging of the CD is a sumptuous digipack, resplendent with a huge 16 page full colour booklet insert containing dozens of never seen before photos, tour posters and lyrics. In essence, this release is an absolute must for any fan of HERESY or UK Hardcore. In addition to this there is a wonderful vinyl version too, in heavyweight coloured vinyl with gatefold sleeve, complete will all the same photos/lyrics/liner notes to be found on the CD version.

A Time Life Box set, this chronological 7-CD sampler of music from the late 60s to the early 90s is well-selected for the most part, as one would expect from Rolling Stone magazine, a principal arbiter of taste for many rock fans. Due to licensing restrictions, devotees of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones will find nothing in this collection except a couple of solo tracks from John Lennon and Paul McCartney. However, most artists of note in that 25-year period are represented by at least one fondly remembered song or major hit. A few get multiple cuts, including four by Bob Dylan and two or three each by Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, Jackson Browne, Ry Cooder, The Allman Brothers, The Eagles, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and U2, as well as Eric Clapton and Neil Young in their various incarnations.

As usual, female and black performers are under-represented (where are Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, James Brown, Al Green, Smokey Robinson...?), but Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Madonna, Tracy Chapman, Cyndi Lauper, Patti Smith, and The Pretenders make the list, along with Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, Run D.M.C., Robert Cray, Sly and The Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, and The Jackson 5. Undeniably great rock stars and bands are here, of course, such as David Bowie, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Warren Zevon, Graham Parker, Traffic, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, The Byrds, The Cars, The Clash, The Doors, The Kinks, The B-52s, Ramones, R.E.M., and Talking Heads. Z pozoru wszystko jest tu na swoim miejscu. Takie samiuteńkie logo, charakterystyczna okładka, będąca kolejną pracą Leszka Kostuja, nawet grafika podobna, choć tym razem dominującą na Egoist zieleń zastąpił kolor niebieski. A jednak drugi album projektu Krzysztofa Lepiarczyka – znanego także z Liquid Shadow, Nemezis i Meteopaty - przynosi spore zmiany. I nie chodzi li tylko o te personalne (w zespole pojawił się nowy bębniarz, nie ma też jednego gitarzysty), lecz przede wszystkim, muzyczne.

Troszkę ponarzekałem przy okazji recenzji debiutu, na którym propozycja Lepiarczyka – choć szlachetna oraz przyjemna dla ucha i… fanów gatunku – była zbyt zachowawcza, zbyt jednorodna, lekko schematyczna i mocno wciśnięta w neoprogresywny gorset. Niby fajna, jednak chwilami zbliżająca się do muzyki najważniejszego lynxmusicowego reprezentanta – Millenium.

Tym razem jest inaczej. Bo Loonypark poszedł w bardziej rockowe rewiry. Muzyka nabrała większej agresywności i zdecydowanie więcej w niej feelingu, swobody i przestrzeni. Artyści nie stawiają już w większości na nastrój i klimat, a tym samym porzucają swoistą senność, wspomniany schematyzm oraz przewidywalność. „Gospodarzem” albumu, w wielu jego miejscach, jest mocna gitara. Już pierwszy numer, tytułowy Straw Andy, choć krótki, pokazuje kierunek zmian. Zadziorne rockowe riffy spotkamy i w Baby Lulla Shadows – Part 1, i w Dance, czy w Undefeated. Ten ostatni wzbudza nieco kontrowersji. Rozpoczęty wzniosłym neoprogresywnym intro, przechodzi w lekko poprockowe granie (momentami zahaczające o AOR?), poprzetykane, niezbyt pasującymi, zwolnieniami. Najbardziej jednak rozbraja mnie klawiszowy motyw grany jeszcze przed wejściem wokalu, stylizowany na… karaoke). No ale to nieliczne zgrzyty na Straw Andy. Bo dalej jest naprawdę fajnie. Trzeci w zestawie, Baby Lulla Shadows – Part 1, to dla mnie najlepszy kawałek na albumie. Bardzo swobodny, z ciekawą figurą gitary graną na jego wstępie i do tego z wyrazistym basem. Z kolei następująca zaraz po nim, druga część utworu – już spokojniejsza – ma momentami "wojskowo – marszowy" rytm, ładne gitarowe solo i… bezpośrednie nawiązanie do Kołysanki Komedy z Dziecka Rosemary, w żeńskiej wokalizie.

No właśnie, żeby nie wyszło, iż Loonypark wycina tu siarczystego rocka pełną gębą. Spokojnie. Są i wyciszenia. Tak jak w naprawdę przejmującej, ascetycznej balladzie Strangers, tylko na klawisze i głos, albo w następującej po niej kompozycji The World Is Enough. Z drugiej strony, w tym ostatnim utworze, pod koniec robi się ponownie mocniej i potężniej. No a są jeszcze hammondowe dźwięki w Try, czy Great In The Sky, pachnące latami siedemdziesiątymi. Trudno nie wspomnieć, pisząc o muzyce Loonypark, o Sabinie Goduli – Zając. Jej głęboki, bardzo „męski” chwilami głos, czyni propozycję zespołu jeszcze bardziej wyrazistą.

Przygoda trwa dalej. Po wydanym w 2008 roku albumie „Egoist” zespół Loonypark powraca w delikatnie wyretuszowanym składzie (bez Macieja Tomczyka na gitarze prowadzącej, a miejsce Jakuba Grzesło za perkusją zajął Grzegorz Fieber) z nowym albumem zatytułowanym „Straw Andy”.

Podobny projekt graficzny, acz utrzymany w nieco innej kolorystyce, zaprojektowany przez tego samego Tomasza Roga, a na okładce kolejny, ciekawy dadaistyczny obrazek autorstwa Leszka Kostuja. Na program nowej płyty składają się, podobnie jak na „Egoist”, krótkie 5-6 minutowe utwory. Tym razem jest ich dziewięć, a więc o jeden więcej niż na poprzednim krążku, choć po prawdzie dwuczęściowy (i zaprogramowany pod dwoma indeksami) utwór „Baby Lulla Shadows” należałoby traktować jako jedną kompozycję.

Podobieństw jest dużo. Także muzycznych. I stylistycznych. Z tym, że na „Straw Andy” jest jeszcze lepiej. Ciekawiej. Dojrzalej. Loonypark okrzepł. Gra zdecydowanie lepiej, jeszcze bardziej umiejętnie łączy „przyjazne dla radia” klimaty w stylu Various Manx z ambitną prog rockową stylistyką spod znaku Nemezis i Quidam. Piotr Grodecki, po przejęciu wszystkich gitarowych partii, w sposób jeszcze wspanialszy czaruje swoją grą, sekcja rytmiczna (Piotr Lipka - bg, Grzegorz Fieber - dr) spisuje się tak znakomicie, jakby grała ze sobą od lat, a dwie czołowe postaci w zespole – wokalistka Sabina Godula-Zając i doskonale znany w krakowskim art rockowym środowisku keyboardzista Krzysztof Lepiarczyk – wynoszą cały zespół na poziom do tej pory dla Loonyparku nieosiągalny. Zespół zdecydowanie wydoroślał. Ale nic dziwnego, wszak w okresie dzielącym premierę poprzedniej i tej płyty, na świat przyszły dwa „loonyparkowe” dzieciaki: Emil Lepiarczyk i Kajetan Zając. Nie pozostało to bez wpływu na klimat całej płyty. I to nie tylko pod względem muzycznym – choć długimi chwilami na płycie jest naprawdę bardzo nastrojowo i atmosferycznie – ale i literackim.

Sabina, która jest autorką tekstów do wszystkich piosenek, wykonawczo prezentuje się doprawdy bez zarzutu. Jej ciepły, głęboki i dojrzały wokal nie ma w sobie już tego „nieopierzenia”, które niektórzy zarzucali mu jeszcze za czasów Liquid Shadow. Tata Emila to w tej chwili już nie tylko dumny ojciec, ale i jeden z najbardziej uzdolnionych kompozycyjnie pianistów rockowych w naszym kraju. A ich wspólny, Sabiny i Krzysztofa, wokalno-fortepianowy duet w postaci utworu „Strangers” to rzecz doprawdy fenomenalna. Z kolei za wstęp i niezwykłej wręcz urody solówkę na klawiszach w nagraniu „World Is Enough” przed Krzysztofem, jako instrumentalistą, nisko chylę czoła.

„Straw Andy” to bardzo udana płyta. Zawiera ona naprawdę solidną dawkę bardzo udanej muzyki. Nie ma na niej dłużyzn, nieprzemyślanych momentów czy słabych utworów. I nieważne czy Loonypark wykonuje akurat instrumentalną miniaturkę (otwierający płytę „Straw Andy”), rozbudowaną kompozycję (rockowa kołysanka „Baby Lulla Shadows”), przebojową piosenkę („Try”), liryczną balladę („Strangers”) czy epicki hymn (wspaniale podsumowujący całość „Great In The Sky”), przez cały czas spisuje się zgoła znakomicie.

Takich płyt chciałoby się więcej. Czyżby album ten zwiastował kolejny dobry rok dla polskiego prog rocka?...

Calling 1980s classic rock fans: Here's an album you may wish to check out. There are various guitar textures and solos, synthesizer backing, and powerful drumming, all of which screams FM radio. Sabina Godula-Zając has a warm, bluesy voice that lends itself well to these rock songs. Imagine a female-fronted Journey (or, easier still, think of Heart) with occasionally more complex arrangements- that's Loonypark's Straw Andy. My main criticism is that the second half of the album consists of slower-paced songs, and a lot of the energy that the first half builds never returns.
"Straw Andy" After a teasing Mellotron, this opening track becomes a straightforward guitar-led instrumental.

"Undefeated" A pleasant distorted rhythm and synthesizer lead introduces this inoffensive rocker. The guitars are dynamic, ranging from dialed-back distortion to fuller riffing.

"Baby Lulla Shadows - Part 1" I dig the main riff to this, especially with the sputtering bass guitar flickering underneath it. The 1980s rock and roll vibe is decidedly present with the synthesizer backing and the lead guitar antics.

"Baby Lulla Shadows - Part 2" The second part brings multiple guitar sounds- acoustic, crunchy electric, smooth chorused electric- and creates a soft rock song almost capable of inducing slow dancing.

"Try" Another soft rocker, this time led by electric piano has a refrain that makes me want to put on roller skates and dodge the reflected light hitting the floor from a shimmering, rotating globe.

"Strangers" This reflective song on acoustic piano keeps me whisked away to the 1980s.

"The World is Enough" A third slow dance song in a row, this one, just as pretty, keeps the piano but adds a bit of acoustic guitar and some other light instrumentation. The tasteful guitar solo leads into some big synth.

"Dance" Speaking of synth, here's a darker one soaked in it alongside saturated guitar that tapers off into more hushed verses. From time to time it springs back into crunchy brusqueness. Compared to many of the other songs, this one is tougher to follow. A seemingly unrelated synthesizer passage shows up near the end.

"Great in the Sky" Mournful piano "Great [Gig] in the Sky" and equally mournful vocals make up the bulk of the final song. The album concludes with another satisfying guitar solo.
