Sześć lat po premierze poprzedniego albumu, Mark Knopfler powrócił z płytą One Deep River, będącą już jego dziesiątym studyjnym krążkiem. Jak zwykle, umieścił on na niej kolekcję niby prostych, ale jednocześnie dobrze i ciekawie zbudowanych piosenek. Kolekcja dwunastu utworów składających się na standardową wersję albumu łączy w sobie cechy różnych stylów muzycznych, w tym rocka, bluesa, folku czy country, stanowiąc ciekawą mieszankę, a jednocześnie zróżnicowany acz spójny zestaw muzycznych historii. Wybrzmiewają tu dźwięki z obu stron Atlantyku, a piosenki utrzymane są w różnym tempie i metrum. Kameralne, niespieszne granie z jednej strony pełne jest melancholii, ale nie brak tu też fragmentów brzmiących bardziej optymistycznie.

This will be his 23rd solo offering, hour-long and comprised of 18 pieces of which 15 are David’s originals, two of them concert takes on earlier cuts, one co-penned with THE DREAM ACADEMY’s Gilbert Gabriel and two – including Woody Guthrie’s evergreen “This Land Is Your Land” – covers. Produced by Knopfler himself, it features such stellar instrumentalists as guitarists Hal Lindes, another DIRE STRAITS alumnus, and Duke Levine, bassist James Hutchinson, and drummers Martin Ditcham and Geoff Dugmore, and, thus, has a robust underpinning for its set of introspective, yet entertaining, songs.
