...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. A muzycznie? While it may seem a contradiction, as the 1980s were winding down, the crossover contingent of the thrash metal scene were indulging in a more ambitious and arguably epic variant of their craft. Whether it was the exploits of California-based bad boys Suicidal Tendencies, or their New York rivals Cro-Mags at around the same time, the songs were getting longer, the riffs more complicated, and the hardcore roots of the style a tad more understated. This is the context that D.R.I.'s fourth LP Thrash Zone falls, at the tail end of what was arguably the decade of metal, and their sound was correspondingly at its most metallic. Relative to the two aforementioned bands that arguably were abandoning the punk sound incrementally, these Texas-turned California-based misfits played things a bit closer to their early 80s stylistic foundation of d-beats and keeping it short, but as was the case with their previous outing 4 Of A Kind, this album is comprised of a more ambitious brand of fence-straddling between the realms of punk and metal that is closer to the likes of Nuclear Assault and Anthrax than it is Discharge or Black Flag. Though of a more ambitious character relative to the average S.O.D. experience, Dirty Rotten Imbeciles tend to keeps things loose and festive here, playing off more of a live concert vibe. Case and point the opener "Thrashard", which cruises through a series of fast-thrashing romps and slower breakdowns that's a bit more indicative of their earlier mid-80s sound despite being dressed up with some fancier guitar work and clocking in at almost 4 minutes, and to the sound of a recorded live audience no less. Similarly more hardcore-leaning offerings such as the quasi-bluesy ditty "You Say I'm Scum" and the bass-happy speeder "Standing In Line" have a bit more of a mundane, humorous, working-class quality that also leans a bit close to the 1985 incarnation than the later 80s one. Arguably the most dynamic contributor to this album's unique sound is John Menor's bass work, which is a fair bit interesting given this band going through rhythm sections like underwear, but the frequent bass breaks that filter in and out of several of these songs has a perfectly raunchy and precise character indicative of what Frank Bello took to Anthrax at around the same time. All that being said, the album title Thrash Zone isn't just for show, as the majority of this opus' contents are of a solid metallic character with riffs aplenty. Despite being on the short and simplistic side, the crushing groove-turned blinding speed of "Enemy Within" and "Drown You Out" bring enough low-end punch to pass for Metallica. But generally it's the longer and more involved offerings like "Beneath The Wheel", "Strategy" and "The Trade" where this album really brings home the thrashing goodness, pounding out enough riffage to pass for some of the heavy-hitters on both sides of the Continental U.S., and also affording guitarist Spike Cassidy some isolated instances to showcase his chops as a lead player, which is about on par with what one might have expected out of Dave Spitz during the tail-end of the 1980s. Overall, the instrumental presentation on quite kinetic, as longtime drummer Felix Griffing (who would sadly exit the fold soon after this album was released) also makes an impressive ruckus and often breaks clear out of the typical punk drummer box. Despite being the central character in this play, vocalist Kurt Brecht is actually the most static element here, as his signature hardcore shout gets the job done, but comes off as one-dimension next to what is going on around it. This may not be the absolute greatest album to ever come out of D.R.I.'s arsenal (that honor is rightly afforded to Crossover by the majority consensus of old school crossover fans), but it's an exemplary case of how the style can be expanded, varied and ultimately made more accessible to the broader thrash metal world. It doesn't really get the credit it deserves due to the band's more influential early offerings, and tends to be dismissed in a similar fashion to 1988's 4 Of A Kind as an attempt to jump onto the popular wave that Anthrax was riding at the time. To be fair, both said preceding album and this one managed to crack the Billboard Top 200, so it was a success on that front, and it definitely carries a heavy likeness to that more mainline thrash metal sound that had been popularized by several bands that were riding the media coattails of the Big 4. It's a great example of a thrash album that doesn't go too heavy on the technical wizardry, and is maybe a slight step below How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today in moving beyond the style's stripped down roots for more ambitious territory. hells Unicorn ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Debiutancki album "Again Shall Be" przyniósł im rozgłos i należytą sławę, uczynił z małej lokalnej kapelki band wielkiego formatu. Powracają z jeszcze cięższą, brutalniejszą, a zarazem skłanijącą do zadumy i wzbudzającą refleksje muzyką. Bębny fajnie podkreślają "skoczność" riffu, szczególnie dobrze to słychać w "Crusade of the Underworld Hordes". Przenosi w krainę lęku i niepokoju. Kwas Ever wondered how Immortal covering Viking-era Bathory would sound? Well, Hades (yes, Hades, this album was released before that piss-poor "other" Hades decided to make a comeback) provides a fairly good answer with The Dawn Of The Dying Sun. This is quite simply one of the most epic, atmospheric, complete albums i've ever heard. The music rumbles along at a leisurely pace, never picking up above a majestic canter, but of course, these guys don't need speed to impress. Instead, they crush you with loping, striding folk-laden riffs, flawless bass playing that weaves in and out of the music, pounding drums and half-buried tormented vocal screams. The opening title track is quite short, and acts more as an intro to the majestic "Awakening of Kings", which is something of a tour-de-force. The third track then introduces more of a measured, ambient feeling complete with eerie synth infusions, before the epic reworking of "Alone Walkyng" (originally the title track of the demo tape) crushes all in it's path. This 10:28 alone is worth the purchase price of the CD. The next few songs are more of the same - this isn't really an album where any particular songs stand out, it's more of a constant wave of atmospheric brillance. The sole letup is track 7, "The Red Sun Mocks My Sadness", which is a brief, melancholic flute instrumental, which provides a momentary passage of calm before the final onslaught of "Pagan Prayer" finishes the job of crushing the listener into rubble... the song just keeps getting heavier and heavier, seemingly threatening to crush your ribcage, before suddenly erupting into a flourish of fiddles and violins, which sear through a few bars before peaking and.... end. Perfect album? I don't think there's any such thing, to be honest... but this is very, VERY close. chaossphere ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. The Dawn Of The Dying Sun 3:31 2. Awakening The Kings 6:11 3. Holopainen opisuje go jako odczucie czasu, historii, pamięci i połączenia z przeszłymi pokoleniami. ..::OPIS::.. Pierwsza duża płyta DRI z masą bonusów. Klasyk punk rocka, hardcore’a, a nawet metalu, pionierzy łączenia tych wszystkich stylów! Ok, let me preface this by saying that this is not a metal album, at all. Sure, some of the riffs have some metal influence, but this is a pure hardcore punk album, and an early example of Thrashcore (which is just really fast hardcore punk, and a precursor to Powerviolence and Grindcore). So basically, if you don't like punk/hardcore, this is not the album for you, and even the more metal influenced releases from these guys may not work for you. However, since I am much more of a punk than a metalhead, this is perfect fro me, and I like it better than any of DRI's crossover thrash albums. This album shows quite a bit of growth from their debut, even though it features reworked versions of many of the songs from the Dirty Rotten LP. This is more thought out, has a bit more variation in tempos while still remaining mostly in the "HOLY SHIT THAT'S FAST" area, plus this has production that is much clearer without sacrificing the raw, no bullshit sound of the band. The album opens rather slowly, but the thrashing kicks in pretty soon, within the same, minute long song. Many of the songs feature radical tempo shifts like that, and seeing as how most songs are under 2 minutes (and only 2 are even over 3 minutes) they happen pretty fast. Of course a few songs that do stretch the format a bit, as I mentioned before 2 of them even manage to surpass the 3 minute mark, which was a first for these boys at the time (hell, most of the songs on Dirty Rotten LP don't even reach 1 minute). On these 3+ minute "epics" (Nursing Home Blues, clocking in at almost 4 minutes, and Argument Then War, just under 3 and a half minutes), you can definitely hear some foreshadowing of what DRI would beocme on the next album, as they both feature a lot of the chugging riffs and have the long intros DRI would end up using so much. So, in short, if you want a thrashing, ass-kicking hardcore punk album filled to the brim with blasting drums and lightning-speed-yet-catchy-as-fuck riffs, and for some reason don't have this yet, download and/or buy this as soon as possible, you won't regret it, just remember, this is NOT a metal album by any stretch of the imagination. As for standout tracks, well, they're all excellent, though the best would be as follows; Snap, I'd RatherBe Sleeping, Yes Ma'am, Soup Kitchen, Couch Slouch, Karma, I Don't Need Society, The Explorer, and Argument Then War EnemyOfTheSun420 In fact this album is not tight, nor was it entirely original anymore. When emotionlessly analysing releases such as these it could be considered pretty much a mess, but a better mess than the Dirty Rotten EP. But honestly, this music was supposed to be a mess. That was the whole point. A racket with either a message or plain complaining about ones personal life. We have here 25 pissed off songs attacking the social and political environment of D.R.I.’s members and similar early eighties punkers on a micro- and marcosociological level. In other words, they’re pissed off at their parent, school, some babes and Ronald Reagan. Nothing new under the sun and de facto just as cliché as singing about vampires, mutilation or satan but of course enjoyable as ever. The biggest difference with the earlier Dirty Rotten & Violent Pacification EP’s? simply a slightly tighter performance, a much clearer production and incidentally some palm muted metal influenced playing. No less than three songs from the Dirty Rotten EP were re-recorded on this album (“I Don't Need Society”, “Yes Ma'am” and “Reaganomics”) and because of the sound and performance they actually are better and more enjoyable than the originals. The D.R.I. albums I like the least are the albums on which the band thought too much about it and material started to sound too contrived. Yet it is this album, an album which is all over the place and losing a grip on itself constantly, which really is what D.R.I. actually were all about. As if the album made itself before the band could consciously start to set out a path. Of course some songs here are better than others (For instance the powerful “Couch Slouch” vs the rather generic “Marriage”) but as a whole the album is one big coherent pile of sing-a-long tunes. Like I said, the album has a certain “je ne sais quoi” brilliance. Everythings works out and nothing sounds contrived, overdone or out of place. In other words, this might as well be their most convincing (and certainly most energetic) album to date. 1985 was a good year for breakdown filled furious hardcore punk classics with irony and playfulness thrown in. Hell, that year The Stupids released “Peruvian Vacation” and let’s not forget the Mike Muir dominated “Welcome to Venice” compilation album. In terms of importance the album just falls in between the “Dirty Rotten EP” and the all time classic ‘Crossover’ album. However when discussing excellence this album would be part of a holy D.R.I. trinity if there ever was one and I strongly advice anyone into crossover but still discovering D.R.I. to get this album as soon as possible! Ohw, and Mikey Offender (R.I.P.) played a few notes here as well. Yes Ma’am! morbert ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Snap 2. I’d Rather Be Sleeping 3. Marriage 4. Yes Ma’am 5. Soup Kitchen 6. Mad Man 7. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Myślę, że podobny poziom adrenaliny i przyspieszonego tętna w zeszłym roku zafundowały mi na polskim czarcim poletku Fiktionlust Totenmesse i Slaughter of Human Offerings in the New Age of Pan Dominance. „W połogu” to zdecydowanie jasny punkt w tegorocznym rozdaniu płytowym. Gratulacje dla zespołu. Oracle ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Intro 03:00 2. Nieprzystępni 06:46 3. Konieczności 06:03 4. Niedorzeczności 06:06 5. Moralności 05:21 6. Przypadłości 06:33 7. Mądrości 05:43 8. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Formacja połączyła hardcore i crossover czyniąc swoją muzykę prostą a zarazem trudną w odbiorze. Mamy tu jedenaście kawałków okraszonych niesamowicie brudnym i przytłaczającym brzmieniem. Harlequin ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Hate Song 05:28 2. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Nowy materiał North - zespołu istniejącego od 1992 roku i będącego, wspólnie z Behemoth, Graveland, Sacrilegium jednym z twórców polskiej fali Black Metalu poczatku lat 90-tych. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erZb00k-Dig I have to say that this year 2024 has had it pretty big with all the oldschool bands returning, as well as new yet highly anticipated releases popping up out of nowhere like mushrooms. Case and point are the polish black/death metal band North, who have been pretty much silent during the last decade, until all of a sudden, they decided to return with a brand-new EP called We Are, We Remain…, with the release date of April 29th via Pagan Records. Without remorse and without a word of warning, the first track “Czas By Powstali” strikes hard with pure misanthropy and aggression, like an avalanche coming down from the frozen mountain. Intense tremolo picking with occasional heavy chugging and slow mid-tempo riffs, solos, dive bombs and pinch harmonics, backed up with fast rhythmic drumming, harsh vocals with occasional growls, altogether create a monstrous storm with such decibels that would collapse the hilltop. The first couple of tracks truly show great potential, proving that this EP does indeed have a lot of standard yet interesting stuff to offer, ranging from various riff ideas to atmospheric moments, especially those that come to play on the third track “Horda Duchów”. The fourth track “Hymn to Winter” is somewhat of a standout on this EP for showcasing a more pagan black metal style approach with some frosty riffs and melodies, while still maintaining the musical template of the previous three songs. As a conclusion to this EP, they gave us a cover of Bathory’s “A Fine Day to Die”, which as I stated previously on my Blackbraid II review, it is a very overdone song since it was covered by so many bands before, including Emperor, and the overall decision of covering it practically became a running gag. However, considering that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Quorthon’s passing, as well as the 40th anniversary of Bathory’s debut album, I guess it’s not so bad after all since it can be easily excused as a nice opportunity to be used for both occasions. Ironically, the way how North covered the song is totally different from the original, by using a faster tempo with various rhythmic changes, while also going for a more “cold second wave black metal” approach as opposed to the “first wave black metal/proto viking black metal” style like Bathory’s original. The way how they performed the song in their own style managed to make it somewhat unique and more dynamic, but I personally wasn’t that impressed with the cover because it just didn’t flow with me that much, and even if it was any better, I would still stick to the original 1988 classic because its magic is simply unbeatable and cannot be outmatched by any. North certainly went ahead of their way to use a lot of dynamic ideas in their songwriting, with a lot of tempo changes and fluent transitions, while still maintaining most of the traditional black metal elements in their music. The EP offers plenty of your classic black metal traits that were rightfully expressed throughout every song, with an established template that has a lot of stylistic consistency and continuity, and yet on top of that, it doesn’t fall victim to a linear/one-dimensional generic output. It definitely managed to flow with me all the way through, despite the unnecessary inclusion of the Bathory cover as the closing track. There is a lot of intensity in their riffing, as well as the band performance as a whole, which conveys a lot of extreme emotions as well as a cold atmosphere that goes along nicely. On the last note, the production of this EP is actually well-balanced by providing a modern sound with some rawness that manages to express the required black metal edge. Overall, I’d say that We Are, We Remain… EP is definitely worth the while and it offers plenty of it to satisfy your needs. The final output proves that North was working hard with effort full of blood and sweat, that deeply expresses from the both of the heart that “they are, and they are here to remain”. It’s a fun release that you should definitely check out if you are into polish black metal. VladimirCokorilo ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Czas by powstali 06:06 2. Stulecia we krwi 06:08 3. Horda duchów 05:19 4. Hymn to Winter (Re-recorded) 06:32 5. A Fine Day to Die (Bathory cover) 07:58 ..::OBSADA::.. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Wszystko świetnie wkomponowane i dające dodatkowe atrakcje. To wręcz można sobie nucić. „Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses” to dosadnie wykrzyczany sprzeciw wobec sił władających ludzkim życiem i umysłem. Sił związanych przede wszystkim z żądzą władzy i bogactwa, obłudną polityką i fałszywa religią. Trwa zaledwie cztery sekundy, a został do niego zrobiony teledysk. Ileż tam się dzieje? Z pewnością jest to najbardziej intensywne video jakie w życiu widziałem. Jest również najkrótsze. Brutal Truth zostali wpisani do księgi rekordów Guinessa w kategorii najkrótszego muzycznego teledysku. Występują tu różne zgrzyty i inne odgłosy, nadające temu utworowi ambientowego charakteru. A zamyka się to wszystko z kolei króciutkim, wesołym akcentem. Płyta wręcz legendarna, wciąż dostarczająca dużych emocji. Wujas ..::TRACK-LIST::.. Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses: 1. P.S.P.I 0:34 2. Birth Of Ignorance 3:28 3. Stench Of Profit 1:22 4. ...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI.
..::OPIS::.. Polskie teksty, urozmaicone tempa, mroczna tematyka. Deadspeak to otwarcie kopniakiem drzwi do nieznanego. Ostateczne rozliczenie się z tajemnicą ludzkiej egzystencji. To bezlitosna eksploracja tamtej strony przy użyciu skalpela, strzelby, pentagramu i mikroskopu. Zawierucha topornych riffów przemieszana z wrażliwością socjopaty... ..::TRACK-LIST::.. 1. Rebel Angel 2. Spiritual Vermin 3. Saint Sekarius Mass 4. Deadspeak 5. Inversion Of The Holy Cross 6.
