Borrowing heavily from Marc Bolan's glam rock and the future shock of A Clockwork Orange, David Bowie reached back to the heavy rock of The Man Who Sold the World for The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Constructed as a loose concept album about an androgynous alien rock star named Ziggy Stardust, the story falls apart quickly, yet Bowie's fractured, paranoid lyrics are evocative of a decadent, decaying future, and the music echoes an apocalyptic, nuclear dread.

Fleshing out the off-kilter metallic mix with fatter guitars, genuine pop songs, string sections, keyboards, and a cinematic flourish, Ziggy Stardust is a glitzy array of riffs, hooks, melodrama, and style and the logical culmination of glam. Mick Ronson plays with a maverick flair that invigorates rockers like "Suffragette City," "Moonage Daydream," and "Hang Onto Yourself," while "Lady Stardust," "Five Years," and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" have a grand sense of staged drama previously unheard of in rock & roll. And that self-conscious sense of theater is part of the reason why Ziggy Stardust sounds so foreign. Bowie succeeds not in spite of his pretensions but because of them, and Ziggy Stardust -- familiar in structure, but alien in performance -- is the first time his vision and execution met in such a grand, sweeping fashion.

After performing his second-to-last selection, "White Light/White Heat," a tune by Lou Reed, the songwriter who most influenced Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie's enduring and indelible persona, Bowie dropped this little nugget on his fans (and bandmates): "Not only is it the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do. Thank you."

He then went into a magnificent version of "Rock & Roll Suicide," a song that gives a glimpse of where Bowie could have gone, not to suicide, but to the style of rock & roll that a long-term band can provide. Had Bowie kept the Spiders from Mars together, unique flashes like the version of "Let's Spend the Night Together" or the striking "All the Young Dudes would have continued, a tight little rock & roll band providing a balance that dissipated when the artist branched out on his own.

The other unnerving thing about this double-LP soundtrack of a concert taped in 1973 and finally released in 1982 is that there are bootlegs which have more to offer sonically. The thin recording is shameful: don't expect Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder or even the Rolling Stones' wonderfully sludgy "Get Your Ya Ya's Out."

The remix of this only official live album from the Ziggy Stardust shows is dreadful. Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture doesn't have the electric excitement of the Live in Santa Monica '72 boot, and that's the fault of the remix by Mike Moran, Bruce Tergeson, Tony Visconti, and Bowie. Another bootleg, David Bowie with the Spiders from Mars, London, July 3, 1973, is the exact same Ziggy performance, but it comes across better, much better.

According to Pimm Jal de la Parra's book David Bowie: The Concert Tapes, the bootleg was issued from the ABC TV 1974 broadcast. The bootleg also has "Jean Genie and "Love Me Do," which feature Jeff Beck on guitar, Beck's performances being absent from the official RCA soundtrack release.
The shame of it all is that this double disc was released after David Live and Stage, and while the upside is it makes for a rare, three double-live sets from one performer, the downside is that the best of those three albums has the worst mix on official record. Also, had RCA released the October 1, 1972 Boston Music Hall show -- which was brilliant, despite Bowie having a cold that night -- or this July 3, 1973 London Hammersmith Odeon program back in the day, it could have had an enormous effect on Bowie's career. At that point in time, the fans wanted more Ziggy, and the timing of this release only shows how important it is to get the material out while it's hot.

Just ask Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, and the J. Geils Band, who solidified their audiences with double-live sets at crucial points in their careers. Nonetheless, everything here is essential David Bowie; it is a great performance, and you definitely need it for your Bowie collection. The only thing better would be Lou Reed himself finally releasing the September 1973 first gig of his Rock 'n' Roll Animal Band, which was, as they say, the real thing.

This self-titled opening salvo of the Smiths' four-year war with mediocrity stands proud as one of the era's most innovative and unique works. Flying in the face of the pomp and artifice that prevailed in pop music at the time, the Smiths raged against their makeup- wearing, synth-playing contemporaries and squarely put rock back on the agenda. Guitarist Johnny Marr married the tunesmanship and harmonic richness of his Motown heroes with the rage of punk, while Morrissey's bedroom confessionals were catnip to England's (and later the world's) disenfranchised youth.

THE SMITHS demanded, and received, instant attention, desirable and otherwise, making a reluctant guitar hero out of Marr and a poster boy out of Morrissey. The jarring juxtaposition between Marr's lilting, densely-layered guitar lines and Morrissey's lyrics and plaintive delivery makes magic of "This Charming Man" (whose theme of sexual ambiguity was to remain prevalent in the group's work) and the gentle major-seventh chords of "I Don't Owe You Anything." The tender "Suffer Little Children," a paean to a group of murdered children in the band's native Manchester, gave the band their first (though far from their last) taste of public controversy.

One Day At A Time is the band’s fourth album, and adds a new chapter to a career that has already encompassed three #1 albums in Ireland, two Top 5 albums in the UK, and more than a billion streams at Spotify.

Kodaline approached the album with a streamlined process that took them back to their roots. The majority of the sessions revolved around the four band members alone in their modest recording space in Dublin, with bassist Jason Boland leading the production side of things.

Last summer Liam Gallagher joined the list of all-time greats (Paul McCartney, Page and Plant, Nirvana and many more) who have filmed a prestigious MTV Unplugged session. Having missed Oasis’s 1996 session through illness, the show at Hull’s City Hall found Liam fulfilling some unfinished business entirely on his own terms.

Now Liam is set to release the ‘MTV Unplugged’ live album of the show on April 24th.

The show’s electrifying atmosphere is palpable from the very beginning with a phenomenal reaction as Liam takes to the stage with ‘Wall of Glass’. Material from Liam’s solo career such as his personal favourite ‘Once’ and the joyous ‘Now That I’ve Found You’ resonates in this stripped-back format, with his vocal shining alongside a trio of backing singers and string arrangements performed by the 24-piece Urba.

Oasis guitarist Bonehead features on performances of ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Cast No Shadow’ and Liam’s first ever live vocal performance of the ‘Definitely Maybe’ bonus track ‘Sad Song’. The show concludes on a crowd-pleasing high with an emotive take on the classic ‘Champagne Super.

Liam launches the ‘MTV Unplugged’ album by sharing the new version of ‘Gone’, which was one of the strongest performances of the night. Stripped of the force of the studio recording, ‘Gone’ instead reveals new-found bombastic dynamics and an evocative cinematic atmosphere.

Like its 1969 second volume THROUGH THE PAST DARKLY, BIG HITS (HIGH TIDE & GREEN GRASS) is a fine collection of '60s Stones classics, but it's a rather bluesier one. This is exemplified by such rootsy tracks as the redefined Buddy Holly tune "Not Fade Away" and the R&B bounce of Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now."

Not that the group's original songs were lacking in grit or attitude; the vituperative "Get Off My Cloud," delivered in Mick Jagger's best Sidcup dialect still sounds magnificent, as does Brian Jones's booming Vox pearl guitar on "The Last Time" and Keith Richards's opening chords to the aforementioned "Not Fade Away." This is a disc to be handed down to your children.

Fourteen songs may or may not represent the ideal introduction to Joan Baez's 12 years at the Vanguard label, but there is no arguing with their resonance. This is Baez 101, rounding up all her hits (bar, mercifully, "Little Drummer Boy"), while showcasing the sheer versatility that she packed into the first decade-plus of her career. Who else, after all, could take "Let It Be" and "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and render something new and beautiful from either? Likewise, she remains the most evocative interpreter Bob Dylan ever had, and the opening "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" is a true tour de force. Of course, the album's brevity ensures it will be of little interest to any but the most casual listener, but within those limitations, it does its job with effortless grace.

JoJo, właściwie Joanna Noelle Levesque (ur. 20 grudnia 1990 w Brattleboro w stanie Vermont) – amerykańska piosenkarka pop/R&B. Ma mieszane pochodzenie polsko-francusko-irlandzko-szkocko-angielskie. Angażuje się w akcje charytatywne.

Przez kilka kolejnych miesięcy JoJo pracowała w Nowym Jorku, Miami i Los Angeles nad materiałem, który miał znaleźć się na jej debiutanckiej płycie, zatytułowanej JoJo. Sama napisała 3 piosenki na tę płytę. Album ukazał się w czerwcu 2004 roku. W produkcji płyty uczestniczyli między innymi Vincent Herbert (odpowiadający za płyty m.in. Destiny's Child, Toni Braxton), Soulshock & Karlin (Whitney Houston, Craig David) i Mike City (Brandy). Okazała się ona sukcesem. Singlem „Leave (Get Out)” podbiła cały świat i jest aktualnie najmłodszą osobą, która zagościła na pierwszym miejscu listy Billboardu. JoJo stała się idolką, wydała dwa kolejne single, postanowiła spróbować swoich sił również w aktorstwie.

Latem 2005 roku JoJo zaczęła prace nad nowym, drugim albumem, który ukazał się w USA 17 października 2006 roku i nosi tytuł The High Road. Krążek promuje utwór „Too Little Too Late”, który został napisany przez Billy’ego Steinberga odpowiedzialnego m.in. za Like a Virgin Madonny. Singel został ciepło przyjęty przez publiczność, a JoJo nakręciła kolejny klip, tym razem do piosenki „How to Touch a Girl”. Natomiast w 2007 roku wzięła udział w dyskusyjnym programie stacji MTV – „The Naked Truth About Boys and Girls”. Jej piosenka „Secret Love” została wykorzystana w filmie pt. Rybki z ferajny. Trzecim singlem z płyty była piosenka „Anything”, wykorzystująca sample z utworu „Africa” grupy Toto.

Poza nagrywaniem płyt JoJo skupia się na karierze aktorskiej. Jej filmowym debiutem jest film Akwamaryna z 2006 roku. W tym samym roku ma swoją premierę komedia rodzinna RV, w której, poza JoJo, gra Robin Williams. Jej ostatnim, jak do tej pory, filmem jest True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet z 2008 roku. W 2017 roku wystąpiła również w trzecim odcinku drugiego sezonu serialu Lethal Weapon jako piosenkarka Shaye, który to odcinek rozpoczyna się wykonywanym przez nią utworem Vibe.

Przez cały okres od wydania drugiej płyty JoJo pracowała nad kolejnym albumem. Dużo mówiło się o płycie, która miała nosić tytuł „All I Want Is Everything”. Jednak wytwórnia Da Family Entertainment nie była zadowolona z efektów pracy JoJo, i wstrzymywała wydanie albumu. W 2009 roku około 20 piosenek z niewydanej płyty wyciekło do internetu. JoJo od razu zdementowała pogłoski przez swoje konto My Space, jakoby piosenki te reprezentowały kierunek muzyczny, w jakim nagrana zostanie trzecia płyta.

W sierpniu 2009 roku JoJo składa pozew do sądu o 500,000$ przeciwko swojej wytwórni, za blokowanie efektów jej pracy. Proces wygrywa i w październiku 2009 oficjalnie potwierdza, że swoją nową płytę wyda w wytwórni Interscope. W roku 2010 JoJo wydaje mixtape pod tytułem Can't Take That Away from Me, która zapowiada nowy, trzeci album wokalistki, a pierwszy wydany przez nową wytwórnię. W roku 2011 JoJo potwierdza, że tytułem nowej płyty będzie Jumping Trains – data premiery wiosna 2012. 18 sierpnia 2011 JoJo potwierdza przez swoje konto na Tweeterze, że pierwszym singlem promującym album będzie Disaster. Singiel ma swoją oficjalną premierę w październiku 2011. Drugim singlem promującym płytę jest utwór „Sexy to Me”, premiera 28 lutego 2012.

Pod koniec 2012 roku Jojo zaczęła nagrywać nowy materiał na kolejny mixtape, który miał zostać wydany do końca roku. Piosenkarka nie chciała by fani musieli dłużej czekać na jej nową muzykę. Było to spowodowane tym, że Blackground Records straciło umowę dystrybucyjną z Interscope Records w 2012 roku, co ponownie spowodowało opóźnienie wydania nowego albumu. 20 grudnia 2012 roku w dniu swoich urodzin ukazał się mixtape zatytułowany Agápē, który został wydany za darmo w formie cyfrowej. 30 lipca 2013 roku JoJo złożyła pozew przeciwko swojej wytwórni Blackground Records i Da Family za „nieodwracalne szkody w karierze zawodowej”. Zgodnie z prawem stanu Nowy Jork nieletni nie mogą podpisywać umów trwających dłużej niż siedem lat, dlatego umowa piosenkarki, która została podpisana w 2004 roku powinna wygasnąć w 2011 roku. W grudniu 2013 roku pozew został wycofany, ponieważ obie strony doszły do porozumienia poza sądem. 14 stycznia 2014 roku ogłoszono, że JoJo podpisała nowy kontrakt z wytwórnią Atlantic Records.
