Jedno z popularniejszych i zarazem najlepiej sprzedających się wydawnictw tego typu w 2007 roku. Płyta jest próbą przekrojowego spojrzenia na artystyczny dorobek Mikea Portnoya - perkusisty Dream Theater . Na trzech dyskach DVD zarejestrowano pracę muzyka z macierzystą formacją Dream Theater oraz z licznymi projektami muzycznymi , w których udzielał się Portnoy.

DVD1 - In The Dream.
Portretuje muzyczne dokonania Dream Theater z trzech albumów studyjych: Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, Train Of Thought i Octavarium. Płyta zawiera pełne wersje utworów granych przez zespół w studiu oraz na koncertach, podczas trasy koncertowej promującej album Octavarium ( utwory, które nie były wydane na koncertowym DVD Score ). Dysk zawiera komentarze Mikea Portnoya dotyczące muzyki i roli perkusji. Nowe odsłony utworów. Lekcje instruktażowe dla perkusistów.

DVD2 - On The Side .
Płyta poświęcona jest licznym pobocznym projektom muzycznym Portnoya: TransAtlantic, John Arch, John Petrucci/G3, Fates Warning oraz Overkill. Fragmenty koncertów - Tribute Bandów Portnoya : Yellow Matter Custard (The Beatles), Hammer Of The Gods (Led Zeppelin), Amazing Journey (The Who) oraz Cygnus & The Sea Monsters (Rush). Dodatkową atrakcją drugiej płyty zestawu jest zwiedzanie domu Portnoya ( muzyczna biblioteka, sala prób z zestawami perkusyjnymi muzyka). Dodatkowo liczne komentarze, nagrania instruktażowe dla perkusistów.

DVD3 - Bonus Material .
Niepublikowane nagrania z trasy zespołu Dream Theater, promującej album Octavarium . Trzy wspaniałe sola perskusyjne grane z udziałem zaproszonych gości: Charlie Benante, Jason Bittner oraz Richard Christy. Specjalna prezentacja zestawu perkusyjnego Portnoya. Pliki w formacie PDF z transkrypcjami utworów.Pełna dyskografia, videografia, galeria zdjęć.

O REALIZACJI: Duża część materiału zgromadzonego na płytach przedstawia ujęcia ze studia nagraniowego. Mike Portnoy wykonuje utwory Dream Theater oraz muzykę innych zespołów/projektów w których brał udział.
Partie perkusji są wysunięte do przodu w stosunku do muzyki, co dodaje utworom nowego feelingu i nowej jakości.
Dźwiękom towarzyszy dynamicznie i bardzo ciekawie zmontowany obraz. Gra Portnoya filmowana jest z dużej ilości kamer, często pracujących na wysięgnikach. Obraz dociera do nas z wielu perpektyw . Połączenie nowoczesnego sposobu filmowania, z wysuniętymi partiami perkusji sprawia, że cenione i znane utwory zyskują nowe oblicze. Odkrywamy je na nowo.

REKOMENDACJA:
Wydaje się, że każdy entuzjasta instrumentów perkusyjnych powinien się zaopatrzeć w In Constant Motion. Jest tu bowiem materiał instruktażowy jednego z ciekawszych perkusistów współczesnej sceny rockowej. Muzyk krok po kroku prezentuje i omawia swoje brzmienie. Utwory są rozkladane na części pierwsze a Portnoy dokładnie, grając w różnych tempach pokazuje co składa się na jego styl: groove, zagrywki, praca bębnów basowych, użycie talerzy i znacznie więcej...
Miłośnicy twórczości Dream Theater/Transatlantic, nie grający na żadnych instrumentach również odnajdą na In Constant Motion wiele dla siebie. Utwory prezentowane na wydawnictwie są w innych aranżach, z mocniej uwypuklonym pulsem perskusji. Na płytach dodatkowo znalazło się wiele niepublikowanych materiałów, których nie ma na innych wydawnictwach Dream Theater.

WYDANIE: Płyty są wydane w ekskluzywnym, kartonowym , kilkuczęściowym digipacku , chowanym w specjalne tekturowe etui. W środku znajduje się dodatkowy plakat.

KONKLUZJA: Nie ulega wątpliwości, że In Constant Motion jest bardzo ciekawą pozycją DVD. Perkusistom dostarcza wartościowego materiału instrukatażowego a dla miłośników DT, jest świetnym uzupełnieniem regularnej dyskografii i videografii .
