So many 'delic bands populated the late '60s, even Little
Steven hadn't been able to hear about a lot of them. This one scored the important 'Freedom' name so it'd been taken ever since.

Their "Nerosubianco" LP, recorded as an OST for a ST cult 1968
Italian, avant-garde movie from Tinto Brass. Brass had commissioned them to write fourteen songs, 13 of which got on the record.
It consists of Ray Royer and Bobby Harrison, ex of Procol Harum,
Jerry Shirley, who joined Humble Pie later & Mike Lease. It's full of
catchy, highly melodic jems like the revealing "Born Again" and
"Decidedly Man"! Plenty of psych guitar licks, layering the
beat for an expressive frontman. Singing, which of course is a
dream for most of today's wanna be rockers. Another bright
moment is the working mix of the SP "The Better
Side"/resurfaced now/ is brilliant, much refined than on the
original LP. The same happens with the working mix of "The Butt
of Deception", as extraordinaire as well.

It's quite interesting Keith Relf & Jim McCarthy /of early Renaissance/
jumped on a train that had already been established by bands
like the Freedom. Although it doesn't undermine their own
achievements.

Szybko się jednak okazało, że archiwa muzyków zawierają także materiały wcześniej niepublikowane na żadnych nośnikach. Stąd pomysł wydawania albumów krakowskiej kapeli również poza serią. Pierwszym tego rodzaju wydawnictwem jest kompakt „Live in Germany 1974”.

Niewielu wykonawców polskich – poza SBB i Czesławem Niemenem – zostało upamiętnionych wydaniem archiwalnych koncertów z lat 70. ubiegłego wieku. Jakiś czas temu dołączyli do nich Skaldowie, którzy najpierw doczekali się publikacji „oficjalnego bootlegu”, jakim jest krążek „Cisza krzyczy” (2007) z występu w Leningradzie jesienią 1972 roku, a następnie czteropłytowego zestawu w serii „Z archiwum Polskiego Radia” (2008), który zawiera utwory nagrane na żywo w latach 1966-1990 podczas festiwali w Opolu, Sopocie i Kołobrzegu. Parę tygodni temu dyskografia zespołu braci Zielińskich poszerzyła się o wydany przez Kameleon Records kompakt dokumentujący radiowy koncert Skaldów w audycji „Nachtmusik im WDR”. Dlaczego tytuł programu jest podany po niemiecku? Ponieważ siedziba stacji Westdeutscher Rundfunk mieści się – po dziś dzień zresztą – w Kolonii. Recital został zarejestrowany 15 lutego 1974 roku; po emisji taśmę najprawdopodobniej skasowano i całkiem możliwe, że jedyna jej kopia zachowała się w prywatnej kolekcji Andrzeja Zielińskiego. I to właśnie ona stała się podstawą publikacji „Live in Germany 1974”.

Niestety, jakość nagrań pozostawia co nieco do życzenia; na dodatek Skaldowie pojawili się w kolońskim studiu w niepełnym składzie – zabrakło gitarzysty Jerzego Tarsińskiego. Jak podano w książeczce dołączonej do płyty, stało się tak „z powodu niedyspozycji zdrowotnej”. Grupa (w składzie: Andrzej Zieliński – organy Hammonda, piano Fendera, śpiew; Jacek Zieliński – śpiew, skrzypce, trąbka, instrumenty perkusyjne; Konrad Ratyński – gitara basowa, śpiew oraz Jan Budziaszek – perkusja) dała prawie godzinny występ, który – sądząc przynajmniej z reakcji obecnej w studiu publiczności – przypadł słuchaczom do gustu. Co ciekawe, w repertuarze znalazło się osiem kompozycji, spośród których zaledwie dwie ukazały się wcześniej w Polsce na płycie (były to wielkie hity Skaldów: „Cała jesteś w skowronkach” i „Wieczór na dworcu w Kansas City” – zagrane w Kolonii w wersjach bardzo zresztą zbliżonych do tych znanych ze studia). Dwa inne kawałki – „Aż do gwiazd” i „Na granicy dnia” – były już znane z radia, ale edycji płytowej doczekały się dopiero na longplayu „Szanujmy wspomnienia” (nagranym w czerwcu 1976, lecz do sprzedaży skierowanym półtora roku później). Podobnie zresztą jak „Street 2000” i „Szukam cię od rana”, które Polskie Radio zarejestrowało w 1974 roku (już po powrocie krakowskich artystów z wojażu do zachodnich Niemiec). Poza tym grupa braci Zielińskich zagrała jeszcze dwa sztandarowe – w późniejszym czasie – utwory ze swego progresywnego repertuaru: „Jak znikający punkt” oraz prawie dwudziestominutową suitę „Stworzenia świata część druga”. Znalazły się one na krążku zatytułowanym tak samo jak suita cztery lata później (choć materiał nagrano już w lipcu 1976).

Niemieccy słuchacze nie zdawali sobie zapewne nawet sprawy, w jak doniosłym wydarzeniu uczestniczą. Polacy z kolei na pewno by je docenili, gdyby tylko mieli możność tamtego zimowego wieczoru odebrać nad Wisłą sygnał nadawany przez WDR. Bo przecież połowa zagranego materiału – a czasowo to nawet dużo więcej – byłaby wtedy dla wielu z nich absolutną nowością. Koncert dobrze oddawał janusowe oblicze grupy – jej twarze: popowo-piosenkową („Cała jesteś w skowronkach”, „Wieczór na dworcu w Kansas City”, „Szukam cię od rana”) oraz progresywno-jazzową („Street 2000” w wersji mocno rozbudowanej, „Jak znikający punkt” i „Stworzenia świata…”). Niestety, choć bracia Zielińscy robią, co tylko możliwe, aby partiami solowymi klawiszy i skrzypiec zastąpić nieobecnego gitarzystę, ta ubogość brzmienia, zwłaszcza w utworach o klasycznie rockowej proweniencji, rzuca się w uszy. Zdecydowanie za dużo jest dźwięków basowych, za mało natomiast kontrastu dla nich, jakiego zwyczajowo przydawałaby gitara. Nie brakuje za to smaczków: a to cytat z piosenki Bogusława Meca „Jej portret” w pełnym improwizacji jazzującym „Street 2000”, a to partia trąbki w niemal hardrockowym, głównie dzięki organom Hammonda, „Jak znikający punkt”, to znów częste wielogłosy i charakterystyczna wokaliza Jacka Zielińskiego w miejscu gitary w „Na granicy dnia”. Najważniejszym punktem całego koncertu była jednak oczywiście kompozycja „Stworzenia świata część druga”, której ocenę, chcąc nie chcąc, trzeba odnieść do „Krywaniu, Krywaniu”, wydanego na płycie niespełna dwa lata wcześniej. To już zupełnie inny gatunek rocka progresywnego – zamiast wstawek folkowych i góralskich przyśpiewek znacznie więcej tu odniesień do muzyki klasycznej, jazzu, ba! nie brakuje nawet orientalizujących wokaliz. A mimo to suita ta nie cieszy się taką samą estymą jak opowieść o tatrzańskim szczycie. Co jednak w niczym nie zmienia faktu, że Skaldowie wielkim zespołem byli (i wciąż są), a „Live in Germany 1974” to wielka gratka dla ich najzagorzalszych wielbicieli.

Achtung Baby to siódmy album grupy U2 wydany 18 listopada 1991. Jest wielkim odejściem od stylu, jaki U2 prezentowali w latach 80. Po mieszanym przyjęciu wydanej w 1988 płyty Rattle and Hum, wokalista grupy Bono ogłosił, że grupa będzie musiała „odejść i wymyślić wszystko na nowo”. Pierwszego singla, „The Fly”, wydanego jeszcze przed płytą (21 października), Bono określił jako „dźwięk czterech ludzi ścinających drzewo Jozuego”. Pomimo swojej eksperymentalności, album powszechnie uważany jest za jeden z „wielkiej trójcy” albumów U2, wraz z The Joshua Tree oraz, zamiennie, War lub All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Album jest poczwórną platynową płytą w Wielkiej Brytanii (1.200.000 sprzedanych kopii).
