...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI...

Przygotowane w serii wznowień studyjnych płyt Led Zeppelin nowe wydanie albumu 'Coda', który w oryginale ukazał się w 1982 roku, dwa lata po śmierci Johna Bonhama. Za remastering z oryginalnych analogowych taśm odpowiada Jimmy Page.



Stephen Davis bardzo celnie określił In Through The Out Door jako „łabędzi śpiew” Led Zeppelin, Codę natomiast, ostatnią płytę zespołu, jako „pośmiertną”. Zespół bowiem, jak wiadomo, postanowił przerwać swą działalność po niespodziewanym zgonie Johna Bonhama w 1980 roku. Lecz o ile In Through The Out Door posiadało jeszcze jakąś nikłą wartość artystyczną, o tyle Coda nie ma jej w najmniejszym stopniu. Ten album grupa postanowiła wydać chyba tylko po to, żeby dobić i siebie i fanów, a tym samym utwierdzić się w przekonaniu, że przedłużanie kariery pozbawione jest jakiegokolwiek sensu (o zobowiązaniach wobec wytwórni nie ma co wspominać, gdyż fakt ten nie powinien stanowić jakiegokolwiek usprawiedliwienia).

Na płytę złożyły się odrzuty z nagrań, obejmujące czasowo niemalże całą działalność grupy, począwszy od We’re Gonna Groove i Poor Tom, poprzez Walter’s Walk i Bonzo’s Montreux, a skończywszy na Ozone Baby, Darlene oraz Wearing And Tearing. Z wymienionych kawałków żaden nie zasługuje na większą uwagę, może poza Bonzo’s Montreaux ze wspaniałą perkusją Johna Bonhama, której – niestety! - po 90 sekundach zaczyna towarzyszyć odpychająco brzmiąca elektronika. Jeszcze We’re Gonna Groove posiada pewną wartość, lecz czysto historyczną, i to tylko z punktu widzenia Led Zeppelin oraz ich fanów. Jedyne, co naprawdę dobre na tej płycie, to żywiołowe wykonanie standardu Williego Dixona I Can’t Quit You Baby, które w innej, niewiele dłuższej wersji, zespół zamieścił na swoim debiutanckim albumie.

Jeżeli zamykający płytę Wearing And Tearing, jałowy i biegający wokół własnego ogona, miał stanowić zeppelinowską odpowiedź na punk rocka i pokazać wyirokezowanym młodzieniaszkom w glanach i skórach, kto na scenie muzyki popularnej rządzi, to roli swej nie spełnił. Jeśli bowiem zespół dał komuś, za przeproszeniem, kopa, to tylko i wyłącznie sobie. Szczerze powiedziawszy, aż wstyd choćby i wrogowi życzyć takiego końca, a co dopiero Led Zeppelin!
