Led Zeppelin's work is the central fact of 1970s rock & roll; in its loving homage to and shameless piracy from the blues, its glorious and wretched excess, its transformation of hippie and folk-rock graces into a foundation-shaking kaboom, and its offhanded myth-making, the band turned everything caught in its wake into a reaction to it--or against it. The three non-album tracks the box includes are grace notes rather than lost jewels, but the point of the set is to be a Rosetta stone of album rock, the stairway to a gaudy paradise that they constructed.

James Travis "Jim" Reeves (August 20, 1923 – July 31, 1964) was an American country and popular music
singer-songwriter. With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner
of the Nashville sound (a mixture of older country-style music with elements of popular music). Known as "Gentleman Jim",
his songs continued to chart for years after his death. Reeves died in the crash of his private airplane. He is a member
of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame.

– amerykański piosenkarz muzyki country.

Reeves zginął w wypadku małego samolotu, który sam pilotował. Przyczyną katastrofy
była szalejąca burza z piorunami. Jego partner biznesowy, a zarazem menadżer Dean Manuel
(który był również pianistą w poprzednim zespole Reevesa) także poniósł śmierć.

31 lipca 1964 Reeves i Manuel wylecieli z Batesville w stanie Arkansas kierując się do Nashville,
w celu dokonania transakcji w sprawie nieruchomości. Jim próbował też bezskutecznie kupić posiadłość
od rodziny LaGrone w Deadwood w stanie Teksas, na północ od Galloway - miejsca swego urodzenia. Podczas
przelotu nad Brentwood, artyści natknęli się na silną burzę, która okazała się zbyt potężna dla małego
jednosilnikowego samolotu Beechcraft 'Debonair'. Aeroplan zniknął z radarów około godziny 17:02, a kontakt
drogą radiową został przerwany.

Dodam od siebie, nie ma już takiej Gwiazdy, która by tak jasno świeciła w świecie muzyki rozrywkowej.

From the Cradle has prompted a wide range of critical response. Many questioned the title itself as Clapton learned the blues formula from records later in life and certainly was not exposed to Black culture "from the cradle", although the title likely refers to the saying "from the cradle to the grave". Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic feels that the album is almost perfect and that the only thing bad about the album is Clapton's singing, which merely imitates the original recordings and sometimes can't pull it off. Tom Sinclair of Entertainment Weekly felt that the recordings were "flawless" but were rather boring, especially when compared to the excitement of Cream's live version of "Spoonful". The Music Box's John Metzger felt that Clapton's appearance on Saturday Night Live to promote the album was more powerful than From the Cradle and that the album had nothing that hadn't been done before on it.Robert Christgau compared Eric Clapton's work on the album to Son Seals and Otis Rush, saying that Clapton played better than the former, but sang worse than the latter and felt that "Motherless Child" and "Blues Before Sunrise" were stand-out tracks on the album.
