Spektakularny koncert na którym Peter Gabriel świętuje 25-lecie swojego przełomowego albumu 'So'.
Aby odpowiednio uczcić to wydarzenie, Gabriel sprowadził oryginalny zespół z trasy koncertowej "So" z lat 1986/87 i po raz pierwszy gra w całości to multi-platynowe dzieło.

Dzięki innowacyjnym pokazom świetlnym i zapierającym dech w piersiach występom scenicznym, 'Back To Front' staje się wizualnym i muzycznym spektaklem, który zanurza publiczność w koncercie, jakiego nigdy wcześniej nie doświadczyła w takiej formie!




Dwudziestopięciolecie najbardziej kasowego w twórczości Petera Gabriela albumu "So", który do dziś sprzedał się w grubo ponad 26 milionach egzemplarzy, stało się idealnym pretekstem do kolejnej wielkiej trasy koncertowej muzyka - zahaczającej również o Polskę.

Była to również świetna okazja by nakręcić kolejne DVD w dyskografii Gabriela. Tak się w istocie stało, bowiem "Back to Front" jest zapisem koncertu z londyńskiego The O2 Arena, który odbył się w październiku ubiegłego roku. Tym większe były oczekiwania, im mocniej przyjrzymy się poprzednim koncertowym dziełom brytyjskiego muzyka - wspomnieć wystarczy absolutnie wybitne, wręcz niedoścignione w swej maestrii wizualnej i dźwiękowej "Secret World Live" (1994) czy futurystyczny teatr w postaci "Growing Up Live" (2003), na obu tych występach działy się dosłownie cuda. "Back to Front" przy wspomnianych wcześniej produkcjach wygląda wprawdzie na występ kameralny, ale byłoby to stwierdzenie krzywdzące, bo nawet gdy Gabriel nie robi widowiska epickiego, to stara się by było atrakcyjnie.

W rzeczy samej, jest atrakcyjnie. Koncert został podzielony na trzy części. Pierwsza, akustyczna, gdzie Peter Gabriel rozpoczyna wyłącznie w asyście fortepianu, później dołączają do niego kolejni muzycy, ale wciąż występ nie odbiega od formy recitalu. Druga część, najmocniejsza, bo elektryczna, prowadzi nas poprzez różne okresy twórczości artysty - jest głośno (czasem aż nadspodziewanie), przebojowo, nowocześnie, przy zachowaniu walorów artystycznych i pewnych wątków teatralnych. Część trzecia, przebojowa, to już współczesne wykonanie albumu "So", uwieńczone wyśpiewanym przez publiczność hymnem "Biko".

Jak na Gabriela "Back to Front" jest koncertem dość ascetycznym - jedna scena (niewielka dodajmy), wyglądająca zresztą jak laboratorium szalonego informatyka, bo wszędzie walają się kable, różnego rodzaju urządzenia z migającymi diodami, mało jest tańców czy showmańskich zagrań. Jedynym efekciarskim zabiegiem są tu "tańczące" przez większą część koncertu lampy na wysięgnikach, sterowane zresztą przez technicznych, które pod koniec koncertu wirują wokół leżącego na scenie Gabriela przywołując matrixowskie wizje - można by je określić jako "psychodeliczny futuryzm". Jakkolwiek momentami wygląda to imponująco, tak w większości wprowadzają wizualny chaos, zbyt wielu ludzi i zbyt wiele przedmiotów krąży po zbyt małej scenie. Nie przeszkadza to jednak w czerpaniu olbrzymiej radości z oglądania Gabriela i jego muzyków (stały skład: Manu Katche, David Rhodes, Tony Levin, David Sancious + dwa nowe nabytki w postaci uroczych chórzystek), bowiem panowie, jak na każdym wcześniejszym wydawnictwie, bawią się aż miło, a owa radość ze wspólnego grania niewątpliwie przekłada się i na samą muzykę.

Zresztą, gdy realizatorzy pozwalają nam zerknąć na publiczność, ta wydaje się być oszołomiona tym wszystkim, co się wokół niej dzieje. "Back to Front" jest w gruncie rzeczy bezwzględnie oryginalnym koncertem, ale bez takiej pompy, do jakiej przyzwyczaił swoich słuchaczy Gabriel przy okazji poprzednich wydawnictw. Jeśli zaś idzie o wykonanie, to tradycyjnie u artysty otaczającego się wybitnymi współpracownikami, jest ono bezbłędne. Szczególne wrażenie robią utwory z "So", bowiem - jak udowadnia "Back to Front" - nie zestarzały się ani odrobinę, a wykrzykująca partię dęciaków ze "Sledgehammer" publiczność tylko potwierdza, że ta muzyka, gdy już raz wejdzie w żyły, zostaje w krwiobiegu na całe życie.

"Back to Front" to kolejny świetny koncert Petera Gabriela będącego nieprzerwanie w doskonałej formie. Jego ocena jest jednak problematyczna, bowiem Gabriela można wartościować wyłącznie przez pryzmat niego samego, gdyż serwowane przez artystę widowiska są samoistne, nieporównywalne z nikim i niczym innym. Toteż wystawiona ocena, jakkolwiek wysoka, może budzić kontrowersje. Gwoli wyjaśnienia więc, "Back to Front" jest rzeczą wspaniałą, jednak w dyskografii koncertowej Gabriela plasuje się przynajmniej o klasę niżej niż "Seret World Live" czy "Growing Up Live".

Dodheimsgard (znany także jako DHG) to pierwotnie norweska grupa blackmetalowa, obecnie wykonująca awangardowy metal. W 2000 roku zespół skrócił swoją nazwę do DHG. W 2003 roku nastąpiły znaczące zmiany w składzie grupy. Dodheimsgard jest połączeniem trzech słów w odmianie bokmal języka norweskiego: dod - śmierć, heim - dom i gard (jak wynika z kontekstu) - rezydencja.
