Ponoć nikt nie usłyszy twojego krzyku w kosmosie - a jednak!

Chaos over Cosmos uderza nas kolejnym wydawnictwem, na którym w roli wokalisty występuje KC Lyon, wchodzący buty poprzedniego wokalisty – Joshuy Ratcliffa. Na gitarze – niezmiennie od czasów pierwszego wydawnictwa – nasz rodak, Rafał Bowman.

„The Silver Lining Between the Stars” to 5-ścieżkowy album zawierający progmetalowe aranżacje. Melodie i riffy spełniają swoje zadanie. Charakterystyczna dla gatunku gitarowa wirtuozeria nastraja i wprowadza słuchacza w opowieść utworu, a warstwa tekstowa tylko dopełnia dzieła. Zdecydowanie nie możemy oceniać osobno muzyki i słów. Te dwa elementy wraz ze środowiskowymi efektami dźwiękowymi oddają klimat sci-fi i wyjaśniają skąd „Cosmos” oraz „Chaos” w nazwie projektu.

Każda z pięciu kompozycji stoi na wysokim poziomie wykonawczym i aranżacyjnym. Około 35 minut wysokiego kunsztu muzycznego z całą pewnością nie znudzi się po pierwszym przesłuchaniu, a nawet uważam, że po kilku odsłuchach nie doznamy zmęczenia materiałem. Ta intergalaktyczna wędrówka z pięcioma przystankami zadowoli każdego fana metalu progresywnego; gitarzyści będą pod wrażeniem tego, co wyczynia pan Bowman, a młodzi screamerzy powinni wsłuchiwać się w KC Lyona. Wyszukane arpeggia i doskonale harmonizowane riffy są kwintesencją tych utworów. Zdecydowanie ten album zasługuje na rewizyty, bo przy każdej kolejnej utwory zyskują – ich głębia daje nam wrażenie przebywania w kosmosie i obcowania z szeroko definiowanym chaosem, dzięki gęstym rytmom i wychwalanej już przeze mnie gitarze.

Album odsłuchiwany po raz pierwszy zostawia po sobie wyraźny ślad i głód dalszego obcowania z nim. Trwa on tyle, by zostawić lekki niedosyt, ale też by słuchający odczuwał satysfakcję i nie zmęczył się dość gęstym i treściwym graniem. Co ciekawe, muzycy czerpią garściami z ekstremalnych odmian metalu. Deathmetalowcy, fani core i math metalu powinni czuć się jak w domu.

Bardzo pozytywne wrażenie zrobiła na mnie poprzednia płyta Chaos Over Cosmos „The Ultimate Multiverse”, więc z ciekawością przystąpiłem do odkrywania kolejnej odsłony tego projektu zatytułowanej „The Silver Lining Between The Stars”. To oczywiście również jest kosmiczna podróż, ale w duecie zaszła jedna zmiana. Wokalistą został Amerykanin KC Lyon, co nie zmieniło faktu, że muzyka jest nagrywana on line, a za linię perkusji odpowiedzialne są syntezatory.

Wokale KC są mocne i rozbrzmiewające w przestworzach wrzeszczącym growlem, co dociąża muzykę i ją wyostrza, a może nawet, jak w „The Last Man In Orbit” rozprzestrzenia, ale nie wokale są tu istotą międzygalaktycznej wędrówki. O to bowiem dbają przede wszystkim gitary. Trzeba jednak dodać, że rejony kosmosu, w które docieramy, pełne są asteroid i pól magnetycznych, które nie dają odpocząć i zaznać próżniowej pustki. Wręcz przeciwnie. Przez cały czas nękani jesteśmy gąszczem gitarowych łamańców, które tworzą całe skomplikowane siatki i przeplatanki. Granie jest wielowektorowe, pełne wyśrubowanych solówek i najeżone technikaliami, w asyście syntetycznej perkusji i mglistych klawiszy. Skłania się mocno ku death metalowi, po drodze zahaczając o djent i math planetę, ale nie wstydząc się też i bardziej melodyjnych, rozwiniętych progresywnie wariacji. Przez cały czas dzieje się mnóstwo rzeczy, kolejne zdarzenia następują po sobie w nieskoordynowanym szyku i jest to przygoda, podczas której nie sposób się nudzić.

Tak mijają pierwsze trzy kawałki, w tym długi, a mimo to bardzo skondensowany muzycznie, numer otwierający i instrumentalny „Eternal Return”. Czwarty „Control ZED” wyróżnia się natomiast największą melodyką i przede wszystkim najbardziej chwytliwymi partiami wokalnymi, ale wciąż jest bardzo mocny. Przejściowy moment ukojenia przychodzi natomiast wraz z ostatnim „The Sons Between The Stars”. Może bez przesady, wciąż jest tu ogień, szczególnie w drugiej części, a także dalej spalamy megatony kosmicznego paliwa, ale jest to pieśń zdecydowanie bardziej rozległa i progresywna, w której łagodzący wokalny udział ma Keaton Lyon, czyli brat głównego wokalisty.

Płyta z pewnością nie jest do jednorazowego przesłuchania. Trzeba przebyć ją wielokrotnie, żeby odkryć jej wszelkie zakamarki. Jednocześnie szatkuje niebanalną techniką, rozpływa się tryskającą melodią i zapada niezwykłą atmosferą. Biją z niej instrumentalne wariacje, ale potrafi też usadowić się w zwartych koleinach utworu muzycznego. Aż dziw, że to wszystko rozgrywa się w zaledwie trzydzieści pięć minut.

Moje poprzednie spotkanie z Chaos over Cosmos (materiał „The Ultimate Multiverse”) miało miejsce jakiś rok temu, nie spodziewałem się więc tak szybko kolejnego strzału, szczególnie że tak skomplikowana i rozbudowana muzyka z pewnością nie powstaje z dnia na dzień. Tym razem jednak wiedziałem już czego się spodziewać, więc zaskoczenia nie było… I tak „The Silver Lining Between the Stars” jest materiałem dość podobnym do poprzedniczki, utrzymanym w tych samych klimatach, choć oczywiście zawierającym pewne nowe elementy. Muzyka tego duetu (cały czas jest to duet, choć jego skład się zmienił, o czym później) to instrumentalna orgia balansująca gdzieś na pograniczu prog, power i death metalu. Wszystko opiera się w głównej mierze na bardzo rozbudowanych, i zaawansowanych technicznie partiach gitar, którym gdzieś tam w tle towarzyszy kosmiczna elektronika. Mam wrażenie jednak, że tej elektroniki jest jakby mniej, niż na poprzednim materiale, choć może to też być efekt miksu… Generalnie gitary są tutaj bezapelacyjnie na pierwszym miejscu i to one mają być w centrum uwagi. Wyeksponowane są zresztą całkiem słusznie, bo po prostu robią świetną robotę. I nie ważne czy jest to jakieś nośne melodeathowe riffowanie, kosmiczne solówki czy progmetalowe pasaże – gitary po prostu robią robotę. W porównaniu do „The Ultimate Multiverse” ten album jest jakby cięższy, zawiera więcej chwytliwego, ale też prostego riffowania, a chwilami nawet ociera się o djent. Oczywiście te delikatniejsze, przestrzenne momenty też się pojawiają, jak chociażby w finałowym utworze „The Sins Between the Stars”, który naprawdę fajnie buduje klimat i jest dobrym zakończeniem.

Na koniec słowo jeszcze o wspomnianej przeze mnie wcześniej zmianie. W zespole pojawił się nowy wokalista i zastąpił poprzedniego, na którego trochę ostatnio narzekałem. Zmiana moim zdaniem wyszła jak najbardziej na dobre. Może jego wokal jakoś specjalnie się nie wyróżnia, po prostu dość sprawnie łączy screamy z okazjonalnymi czystszymi śpiewami, myślę że sprawdziłby się spokojnie w jakimś melo-death metalowym składzie. O to chyba jednak chodziło, by specjalnie nie wychodził przed szereg i stanowił solidne, ale jednak tło dla partii gitar… Co ciekawe znowu jest to osoba z zagranicy (przypominam, że za warstwę muzyczną odpowiada Polak – Rafał), więc status zespołu pozostaje „międzynarodowy”.

Generalnie zatem uważam „The Silver Lining Between the Stars” to materiał o oczko lepszy niż poprzednik. Jeśli ktoś lubi takie zróżnicowane, dynamiczne i mocno zorientowane na warstwę instrumentalną granie to spokojnie może po ten album sięgnąć. Ja do Chaos over Cosmos przekonuję się coraz bardziej.

PS. Okładka znowu bardzo w ‘kosmicznym’ klimacie, choć ta poprzednia była bardziej wyrazista…

Powiem wam, że fakt iż takie płyty jak “The Enemy of Reason” muszą czekać niezauważone kilka lat nim ktoś się zdecyduje wydać je w formie fizycznej, to jest kurwa skandal i ostateczny dowód na to, że muzyki jest obecnie na rynku za dużo. Druga duża płyta Isolated została wrzucona w sieć (osobiście nigdy nie uważałem tego typu zabiegu za „wydanie”) w roku 2015. Chuj wie, czy zespół jeszcze w ogóle istnieje, ale skupmy się wyłącznie na zawartości krążka, który Godz Ov War wygrzebali z zalewu przeciętności i postanowili przedstawić światu. Na płycie zamieszczono siedem kawałków death metalu. Takiego szczerego, od serca. Kopiącego w dupę z siłą rozpędzonej ciężarówki. Mocno śmierdzącego krajowym wpierdolem z lat dziewięćdziesiątych i ciut późniejszych. Czyli jeśli myślicie Vader, Dies Irae czy Yattering to jesteście na dobrym tropie. Dorzućcie do tego kapkę Immolation i macie pełen obraz Wroga Rozumu.

Isolated umiejętnie łączą melodię z brutalizą i nie trzymają się kurczowo jednego tematu. Kombinują, ale z wyczuciem, dzięki czemu ich kompozycje są urozmaicone i wielobarwne. Panowie potrafią zarówno perfekcyjnie zajebać blastem z półobrotu niczym Chuck Horris jak i technicznie rozpracować w stylu Bruce'a Lee. Chyba największą siłą tego materiału jest jego nośność. Utwory Isolated z każdym kolejnym odsłuchem wciągają coraz głębiej i zadają coraz poważniejsze rany. Przy takich strzałach jak choćby mechaniczny „Devilish Verses”, „I’m Your Cancer” czy mocno kojarzącym się z Immolation „Possessed Invocations” łeb kręci się przy samej dupie. I tylko mam w przypadku tego materiału identyczny zarzut, jak przy debiucie Deathspawn. Wkurwia mnie cholernie ten sterylny dźwięk perki, brzmiący chwilami jak triggerowy potwór, pożeracz organiczności i pierwiastków ludzkich. Jest to co prawda mankament do którego można z czasem przywyknąć, zwłaszcza że wszystkie siedem kompozycji broni się wyśmienicie, ale zawsze chuj mnie strzela, gdy zespół na własne życzenie tak spierdoli sobie brzmienie. Mimo tego zarzutu uważam, że „The Enemy of Reason” to album bardzo udany a jego przeoczenie można traktować w kategoriach grzechu ciężkiego.

Zatem jeśli zaszedł u was podobny pomyłek co u mnie i nie wiecie co to jest Isolated, to macie doskonałą okazję by swoją wiedzę uzupełnić. Żałować na pewno nie będziecie, a założę się, że niejeden z was mocno się przy okazji oślini.
