Koncert został zarejestrowany w opuszczonym kościele we wrześniu 2020 roku i był transmitowany jako livestream, wyznaczając absolutnie nowe standardy dla tego typu eventów.

Podczas zrealizowanego przez Grupę 13 show, Behemoth zaprezentował najważniejsze utwory ze swojej dotychczasowej kariery. Całość została podzielona na cztery części, podczas których nie zabrakło spektakularnych efektów specjalnych i teatralnych. To trzeba koniecznie zobaczyć!


The live music industry was hit hard by the pandemic, with tours having to be postponed or canceled. In this difficult time, artists have been navigating through the situation by live streaming shows wherein the audience can watch the show online from the comfort of their homes by purchasing a ticket for the event. Following the trend, black metal giants BEHEMOTH have gone above and beyond with their two-hour-long immersive live-streamed performance, In Absentia Dei.

In Absentia Dei was performed and live-streamed from an abandoned church in Poland where the music video for ‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel’ was shot years ago. The entire show was filmed in 4K with incredible lighting and pyrotechnics among several other visually captivating elements for an absolutely mind-blowing experience.

The performance started with a free pre-show which featured interviews with BEHEMOTH’s band members and some footage of the venue, which is a former Evangelical church that stopped being in service over 100 years ago. The interviews and behind the scenes footage were followed by a smashing set by Brooklyn-based metallers, Imperial Triumphant live-streamed from The Slipper Room in New York City. Personally, this was the first time I was listening to the band. That being said, their performance was nothing short of gripping. Big ups to BEHEMOTH to introduce me (among others, I believe) to this brilliant band. The short but visually and auditorily engaging half-hour set was just setting the scene for what was about to come.

Sitting on my couch with a cup of coffee is definitely not how I pictured my second experience of watching BEHEMOTH to be. The theatrical extravaganza, split into four parts, is the first time BEHEMOTH has played that many songs at a single show. After a wait of about 20 minutes post the pre-show, Act I kicked off with images of the band members, masked and riding horses towards the church which was in flames. The live debut of ‘Evoe’, from the band’s latest offering, A Forest is how they started their performance. Act I also saw them play ‘Prometherion’ and ‘From the Pagan Vastlands’ for the first time since 2011 and 2009, respectively. There was a little bit of a technical setback towards the end of Act I wherein the footage was pausing and stalling. However, this was resolved promptly as the show proceeded.
Act II started off with visuals of a masked figure circling a lantern and almost joining the band for a dance as they played ‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel’. Each Act was preceded by thoughtfully curated theatrics executed to perfection, which made the performance all the more riveting. The band went into Act III with visuals of a woman, pierced with hooks, and then suspended from the ceilings of the ancient church. The image of the performer suspended as if she were on a crucifix and swinging throughout the performance of ‘Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer’ was the visual peak of In Absentia Dei for me (and many others for sure).

Pyrotechnics is nothing new in a BEHEMOTH show. However, the location combined with the use of fire and flames just made the whole performance more artistic and beastly at the same time. The images of flames surrounding a blood-soaked Nergal while the band played ‘O Father O Satan O Sun’ was just the perfect ending for the show.
BEHEMOTH kept the energy high throughout the show, which (I guess) is not an easy feat to achieve when playing without an audience. The band delivered an absolutely wholesome performance with great sound, theatrics, and visuals that were creative and stayed 100 percent true to the band’s music and beliefs. The show was a good reminder of how BEHEMOTH is truly one of the best live acts around in terms of putting on a great show by bringing together extreme metal music and artistic valor.

As much as I miss going for traditional shows and festivals, live streaming shows is something I could get used to, especially if bands can pack a punch as BEHEMOTH did with In Absentia Dei.

Fińska horda Malum uderza trzecią, pełną płytą i trzeba bez ogródek przyznać, że to bardzo udany materiał. Nic zaskakującego, nic nowego, wszystko oparte o klasyczne wzorce gatunku z lat 90-tych, ale słucha się tego wybornie. Sekcja charakteryzuje się dużą dynamiką zarówno w siarczystych, maniakalnych, dzikich, szybkich strzałach w ryj, jak i w marszowych, podniosłych pochodach, czy też miażdżących, gęstych zwolnieniach. Ponure, jadowite wiosła budują przepełniony mrokiem i pewnym rodzajem melancholii klimat za pomocą zimnych riffów ze sporą ilością melodii, a całość trzyma twardo za ryj bluźnierczy, barbarzyński wokal. Znalazło się tu także trochę miejsca dla parapetu podkreślającego mistyczną atmosferę tego krążka. Słychać tu sporo tradycyjnego, Fińskiego, czarciego grania spod znaku SatanicWarmaster, Horna, Baptism, czy Sargeist, jednak „Legion” posiada także ogromne pokłady szwedzkich linii melodycznych charakterystycznych choćby dla Sorhin, czy Sacramentum. Bardzo dużą siłą tej płyty jest właśnie równowaga pomiędzy agresywnym, dzikim, furiackim napierdalaniem i podniosłymi, majestatycznymi melodiami. Jak trywialnie by to nie zabrzmiało, w tej płycie czuć ZŁO i nawet persona, która ni w ząb nie zna angielskiego, domyśli się, wyczuje, że wokalista nie śpiewa o dupie Maryni. Mocne, stosunkowo surowe i wystarczająco przestrzenne brzmienie podkreśla siłę tego albumu i sprawia, że każda z siedmiu zawartych tu kompozycji potrafi omotać słuchacza i zarazem spuścić mu solidny wpierdol. Bardzo dobra płyta i zdecydowanie najlepsza produkcja, jaka do tej pory ukazała się z logiem Malum. Warto się z nią zapoznać.

Hatzamoth

Malum is a black metal ensemble from Finland and “Legion” is their 3rd full length album. “Legion” could be described as an album that paves in the ways of northern European black metal as it was shaped in the 90’s. Cold, frigid and misanthropically distant from humanity. However, Malum seem to be closer to the mid-late 90’s sound.
They sometimes seem to be trapped in the genre’s standards/cliches and resultantly some of their songs lack originality. But on the other hand, at first this is not necessarily bad because they do a great job in terms of performance/production, and secondly they have written some excellent songs in which they really show their technical and songwriting skills and their potential.
Hecate Enthroned, Emperor, Mayhem and their co-patriots Horna are the bands that came first to my mind as possible influences.

The production is nice and “warm” for the style. Tyrant’s vocals (vocalist also in Infernarium and Kalmankantaja) are grim and harsh exactly as the style requires. They are sadistically vibrant and have a big sustain and consistency. The riffs’ style varies. At times they are cement-constant rolling on the same theme in the typical black metal ways, others they are mid tempo walls or they create atmosphere with noise/effects, then with open chords travel the listener to the Mayhem glorious ways (for example in the closing part of ‘Sexual Demon’). Above all Malum’s riffs are performed in a raw but at the same time emotional way.

The synths when used (like in ‘Days Of Slaughter And Destruction’) give a sickening and filthy twist to Malum’s approach to black metal drawing influences from classic albums like Rotting Christ’s “Passage To Arcturo”. Their dark melodies have an epic aura as the one we meet in Hecate Enthroned, Bal Sagoth or a more traditional edition of Cradle of Filth. The penultimate song ‘Luciferian Legion’ features an excellent choir/operatic theme whose roots must be in the epic era of Bathory.

The last song is ‘Ajattoman Viisauden Loisteessa’ which translated from Finnish would be something like ‘In The Flood Of Timeless Wisdom’. Countless (hidden) melodies will be repeated in your head minutes after the album has ended. Some of its riffs are majestic and the acoustic part is absolutely brilliant showing (as I indicated before) a band that can produce great music! Limbonic Art would love to have released this song!

Although this is not a life-changing album, “Legion” is undoubtedly a very good black metal album. It has some excellent songs and performance. This is an album that can not be overtaken this month from black metal fans.

„O szczęście niepojęte …” – taki oto wers kościelnego klasyka zabrzmiał w mojej głowie na wieść, iż Patrick Mameli przywrócił do życia (po raz kolejny) Pestilence i nagrywa płytę. Nowy album Hadeon będzie miał premierę 5 marca tego roku via Hammerheart Records, ale można go swobodnie już przesłuchać od 25 stycznia dzięki streamingowi na youtube.

Promocję płyty rozpoczęła wpadka z okładką. Po publikacji od fanów zaczęły napływać INFOrmacje, że w jej skład wchodzi kilka grafik, które były wcześniej wykorzystane w innych projektach, i jak się okazało zostały bezprawnie przywłaszczone. Nie miałem okazji widzieć tamtego artwork’u, ale myślę, że nie ma czego żałować. Ostateczny obraz zdobiący Hadeon robi wrażenie i koresponduje z muzyką Pestilence. Grafika została opracowana przez naszego rodaka Michała Lorenca, ukrywającego się pod pseudonimem Xaay, znanego prac m.in. dla Behemoth, Nile, Evocation, Vader, Necrophagist.

Wraz z okładką premierę miał jeden z utworów. Multi Dimensional od pierwszych dźwięków zdobył moje śmierć metalowe serce. Rozpoczyna się riffem utrzymanym w klimatach Spheres, po czym po oldschool’owym „Go!” przekształca się w death’owo/thrash’owy hit. Bardzo dobry i reprezentatywny wybór do promocji całego materiału.

Całość rozpoczyna klasyczne dla takiej muzyki intro Unholy Transcript. Jest złowrogi wiatr, szepty, wojenne bębny i klawisz. Zero oryginalności, ale też i po co. Tu nie ma czasu na zbędne rozważania, ma być konkret. Po niespełna dwuminutowym wstępie czas na Non Phisycal Existent. Wypuszczone gitary, średnie tempo na rozkręcenie, następnie szybkie riffy i zaflegmiony ryk lidera zespołu. Wyraźny refren, sporo zmian tempa, okazjonalny blast. Jestem już pewny, że płyta będzie dobra. Kolejny kawałek, który przykuł moją uwagę to Oversoul. Prosty w budowie, nieco wolniejszy od wcześniejszych. Znowu wyczuć można klimaty Speheres, wymieniane z ciężkim, miarowym riffem. Całość pięknie uzupełnia rozbudowane solo Mameli’ego. Świetne.

Materialization zwraca uwagę grą perkusisty na talerzach, bardzo sobie cenię takie niuanse. Septimiu Hărşan jest nowym nabytkiem w Pestilence i wkomponował się w styl zespołu mistrzowsko. Bardzo solidne bębnienie, bez zbędnych pOPISów. Od czasu do czasu pozwala sobie zaszaleć na blachach, po czym wraca do dalszego ciągnięcia tego death metalowego wozu. Szósty utwór przynosi ze sobą odjazd w kosmiczne oblicze bohaterów tej recenzji. W zwrotkach pojawia się „robot voice”, syntezator gitarowy, odjechane solo. Miód na uszy dla fanów końcówki działalności Pestilence w latach 90. Z kolei następny kawałek Disincarnate Entity spodobać się może sympatykom wczesnych dokonań Holendrów. Podoba mi się także Timeless, któremu blisko do klasycznego Testimony of the Ancients. W Ultra Demons powraca „robot voice”, by znowu przenieść słuchacza w kosmos. Na szczęście wstawki te są odpowiednio wyważone i nie ma obaw, aby zrazić słuchaczy mniej otwartych na nowości.

Hadeon można traktować jako swoisty the-best-of. Mameli z zespołem stworzył dzieło łączące w sobie najlepsze elementy z całej działalności Pestilence. Znajdziemy tu thrash’owe wpływy Malleus Maleficarum, dzikość Consuming Impulse, technikę Testimony of the Ancients i magię Spheres. Bardzo równy materiał, w którym ciężko wybrać wśród utworów faworyta. Wszystko to okraszone jest bardzo klarownym, żywym brzmieniem, za które odpowiedzialni są Christian Moos (mix) i legendarny Dan Swano (mastering). Mocna pozycja na początek roku, która moim zdaniem powinna znaleźć się w podsumowaniach najlepszych albumów 2018. Jeżeli masz dosyć death metalu przepełnionego blastami, gęstymi partiami i zbitymi masteringami, to jest to płyta dla Ciebie.

Po pięciu latach abstynencji wydawniczej Patrick Mameli wraz z kompanami wraca z nowym albumem „Hadeon”. W sumie to się ucieszyłem, bo Partick w wywiadach zapewniał, że tą płytą wróci do lat 90-tych, gdzie powstały takie wiekopomne dzieła jak „Consuming Impulse” czy rewelacyjny „Testimony of the Ancients”.

Miodowe lata niestety „Zaraza” ma już dawno za sobą, ale fajnie, że w ogóle wrócili i jeszcze im się chce.

„Hedeon” to trzynaście kompozycji, które są powrotem do młodzieńczych lat Mameliego, a wyznacznikiem całości jest wspomniany wcześniej album „Testimony…”. Jak usłyszałem w sieci pierwszy utwór, który promował ten album – piałem z zachwytu jak za pacholęcych lat. Niestety na tym kawałku pianie się skończyło, bo im dalej w las tym ciemniej. Płyta może nie jest zła, ale jak dla mnie to taki dwudziestoletni odgrzany kotlet polany świeżym sosem i na nowo doprawiony. Utwory do bólu przypominają te nagrane w latach ’90, jakby to były jakieś odrzuty z sesji „Testimony…”

Nie powiem – wyprodukowane to wszystko na wysokim poziomie i utwory żrą jak trzeba, ale brakuje mi tego czegoś, czyli tzw. elementu zaskoczenia. I właśnie tutaj zadaję sobie pytanie, czy to komuś jeszcze jest potrzebne? Mogli iść w stronę „Spheres” i dalej kombinować z jazzem, a wtedy może uniknęliby takich albumów jak „Hadeon”. Na pewno ta płyta przypadnie do gustu starszym, bardziej konserwatywnym fanom, którzy czekali na nią aż pięć lat (ja też jestem starym fanem, ale oczekiwałem czegoś więcej).

Podsumowując: stary Pestilence wrócił z nową płytą, nad którą unosi się duch minionego wieku i nic poza tym. Nie czekam na następną płytę. No chyba, że Mameli wpadnie do czarnej dziury i powróci z głową pełną pomysłów godnych zarazy XXI wieku.

While the '80s may have been littered with many second-rate pop-metal knockoffs of little musical merit, Judas Priest, decked out in leather and studs, always stood tall above the pretenders as the genuine article of metal greatness. Along with Iron Maiden, they helped lead the way of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and are certainly one of the best and most influential metal bands ever. The Best of Judas Priest: Living After Midnight provides fans with a collection of late-'70s/early-'80s hard-rocking classics by one of the best in the metal business. This collection focuses on the hits of Judas Priest's career, which came mostly during the early '80s, their artistic and commercial peak. Tracks like "Living After Midnight" and the MTV favorite "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" showcase one of the band's biggest strengths, which is the ability to be melodic without losing any of their intensity or edge. The band had the ability to make you sing along while they were bludgeoning you over the head with a heavy guitar attack. Live tracks like the fist-pumping "Heading Out to the Highway" and "Tyrant" feature great performances by Rob Halford, who is one of the most gifted and distinct vocalists in heavy metal history. These tracks prove that Halford's soaring vocal range is no studio creation. The brutal "Metal Meltdown" and the epic "Victim of Changes" prominently display the twin guitar attack of K.K. A metal institution whose influence cannot be overstated, Black Sabbath pioneered the genre as they constructed the framework for subsequent subgenres within metal, with entire movements rising from blueprints laid out in single Sabbath songs. From the end of the '60s and throughout the entirety of the '70s, the band became legendary for the doomy chemistry between its players: Ozzy Osbourne's primal vocals, Tony Iommi's seismic riffing, Bill Ward's bluntly powerful drumming, and Geezer Butler's thunderous basslines all congealed into a sinister breed of hard rock and occult-fixated songcraft the world had never heard before. This untouchable original lineup was responsible for metal masterpieces like 1970's Paranoid, but when they splintered in 1979, Black Sabbath soldiered on with a cast of various, different singers while Osbourne applied his prince of darkness persona to a successful solo career that would span decades. There were various reunions and partial re-formations of the first Black Sabbath lineup, aiming to recapture some of their early evil energy on later period outings like 2013's 13.

A więc skąd pochodzi kał? Kał pochodzi z d… A zresztą zobaczcie sami. Oczywiście jeżeli macie pierwsze wydanie drugiej płyty Type O Negative „The Origin Of The Feces (Not Live At Brighton Bridge)”, takie z 1992 roku. Ja się załapałem, więc z okładki wita mnie rozdziawiony odbyt Petera Steele’a, a w środku efekt jego pracy oraz efekty pracy odbytów pozostałych członków zespołu, umieszczone wprost na zdjęciach ich twarzy. Jeżeli macie wydania od 1994 roku wzwyż to okładka będzie już zupełnie inna, przedstawiająca średniowieczny taniec śmierci. Czy są stolce w środku, tego nie wiem. Nie wiem też czy to wielka strata jakby ich nie było, ale to już co kto lubi.

No dobrze, to tyle o kupie, bo na okładce i tytule ten temat na szczęście się kończy. Przejdźmy więc do jego drugiego członu, tego w nawiasie. Otóż płyta stylizowana jest na koncertową. Materiał na niej częściowo oparty jest o pierwszy album "Slow, Deep And Hard", choć pod innymi tytułami, ale wszelkie odgłosy tłumu, rozmowy Petera z publicznością i okrzyki kierowane w jej stronę, nagrane zostały w studio. Jeżeli jednak ktoś myśli, że zespół w ten sposób chciał dodać sobie splendoru, to będzie w dużym błędzie. Otóż tłum niby zebrany pod sceną bezustannie gwiżdże, wyzywa i wyraża swoje niezadowolenie. Na skandowanie „Fuck you!” Peter odpowiada „Fuck you too”, poza tym prosi o spokój i mówi, że jak się komuś nie podoba to przecież nie musi słuchać tylko może wyjść. Jedyne oklaski i wrzaski radości podnoszą się, gdy Peter ogłasza, że ma dobrą wiadomość, bo będzie ostatni numer. A dzieje się to oczywiście nie przed ostatnim kawałkiem, tylko trzy przed końcem. W Type O Negative nic przecież nie mogło być normalnie.

Zupełnie niewymiarowa jest również tracklista. Pierwszy „I Know You’re Fuckin Someone Else” trwa piętnaście minut i jest przerwany na komentarze do widowni i mruczenie a capella. Są w nim wolne i duszne fragmenty, ale dużo tu też punkowego niechlujstwa i wigoru. Kontrasty występują naprzemiennie, są damskie jęki, atmosfera miesza się z łupaniną, a z pomiędzy tego wyłania się melodyjny i skoczny refren. Gitary są nastrojone bardzo nisko tworząc specyficzny klimat, którego nie przestrzegają ostre solówki. Miszmasz jest totalny i to właśnie jest cały Type O Negative ujęty w tym jednym, długim kawałku.

Kolejne numery trzymają się tej konwencji, choć są już znacznie krótsze i mniej poplątane. Zachęcający do samobójstwa „Are You Afraid” również zaczyna się spokojnie, aby rozwinąć się do mocnych i zdecydowanych dźwięków i bez żadnej widocznej granicy, połączyć z mającym drugi najbardziej śpiewny refren i chwytliwą melodię „Gravity”. „Kill You Tonight” według tracklisty powtórzony jest dwa razy, choć jego druga odsłona, pod względem muzycznym, oczywiście nie ma nic wspólnego z pierwszą. Jako teksty natomiast stanowią pewną całość z będącym między nimi coverem Billy’ego Robertsa „Hey Joe”, tutaj zatytułowanym „Hey Pete”. Jakby ktoś miał kiedyś ochotę na zabicie żony to tutaj może poszukać inspiracji. Fakt, że ta puszczała się z całym miastem, więc w sumie co racja to racja.

W ogóle dużo tu tej śmierci, także w znów naprzemiennie mocno punkowym i wolno-klimatycznym „Pain”. Type O Negative miesza wszystko w wiadrze i w tych nieprzychylnych warunkach kreuje swój styl, będąc kompletnie nieszablonowym i zupełnie nieprzewidywalnym. Moim zdaniem muzycznie to jeszcze nie jest to na co stać było ten zespół i błyszczą raczej tylko fragmenty, ale płyta na pewno nadrabia pomysłowością, niekonwencjonalnością i wartkością akcji. Coś zupełnie zwariowanego.

Czy wierzysz w szczęśliwą miłość? Jeżeli tak, wysłuchanie tej płyty może okazać się dla ciebie przykrym doświadczeniem. Nie przejmuj się jednak. Podobno nie ma takich chwil, że nie może już być gorzej...

"Jedyne co zostaje na zawsze
To wspomnienia i smutek"

Takie słowa wypowiada Peter już w 75 sekundzie czasu trwania tej płyty.

Pierwszy niemal trzynastominutowy utwór jest przejmującym krzykiem mężczyzny zranionego przez kobietę. Zranionego w sposób najgorszy z możliwych - przez zdradę.

"Unsuccesfully coping with the natural beauty of infidelity" jest niezwykle zróżnicowany - mózg twój wypełniają zarazem piękne i brutalne w swej mocy dźwięki. Wulgarny tekst wspaniale komponuje się z głosem Steele'a i resztą instrumentów.

Potem przychodzi czas na jeszcze mocniejsze uderzenie - wymierzone prosto w... "podczłowieka":

"Jak to jest żyć za darmo"
Zsiadaj z pleców społeczeństwa
[...]
Odpadek życia
Jesteś odpadkiem życia"

Być może chcesz już wyjść na świeże powietrze, słońce, uciec... lecz... coś ci nie pozwala... Gwarantuję ci, że jeżeli zaczniesz słuchać tej płyty, będziesz chciał ją skończyć. A potem przyjdzie czas na więcej... i więcej.

"Nienawiść
wpędza mnie w obsesję
Nienawiść
Zagarnia mnie"

Tak zaczyna się "Xero tolerance" ze swoją wspaniałą gitarą i niepokojącymi klawiszami Josha. Do czego może posunąć się urażona duma zdradzonego mężczyzny?

Utwór kończy kilkakrotne:

"I kill you tonight
I kill you tonight"

Skoro nie może z nią być, weźmie coś "na odwagę" i zabije... Lepsze to niż widzieć ich razem, prawda?

Okazuje się, że to dopiero początek końca... Zaczyna się właśnie "Prelude to agony". To mój ulubiony utwór na tej płycie - pełen przytłaczającej, muzycznej przestrzeni... Perkusja uderza tu niezwykle miarowo, nie ma jednak mowy o żadnej monotonii. Na pierwszym planie wciąż ten sam potwornie smutny i zdecydowany głos Petera, który dochodzi do zaskakującego wniosku:

"Miłość jest życiem
Życie jest miłością
Miłość jest bólem
Ból jest śmiercią"

Czas pokaże, jak skończy się ta historia, tymczasem... na odtwarzaczu pokazała się cyfra 5. Wyłącz więc światło, połóż się i zamknij oczy... Następnie wsłuchaj się w sabbathowską psychodelię "Glass wall of limbo", porusz wyobraźnię i przenieś się do sobie tylko znanej, wyimaginowanej krainy smutku. Potem nastąpi około 1,5 minuty.... ciszy - czas dla ciebie na krótką refleksję i upadły anioł w osobie Steele'a uderzy po raz ostatni na tej płycie. "Gravitational Constant: G = 6.67 x 10-8 cm-3 gm-1 sec-2" jest niesamowicie "mocnym" kawałkiem - tytuł bardzo trafnie charakteryzuje jego ciężar. Jest to spowiedź człowieka na krótko przed popełnieniem samobójstwa, usprawiedliwiającego się...:

"Widziałem przyszłość
Przyszłość jest czarna
To właśnie muszę zrobić
Nie ma żadnych wyjątków
Nawet nie mówmy o samoprzetrwaniu"

Morderstwo jeszcze bardziej utwierdziło Go w przekonaniu, że jedyną "sensowną" rzeczą w tym "bezsensownym" świecie jest odebranie sobie życia.

"Samobójstwo to sposób wyrażenia siebie" - takimi słowami kończy się pierwsza płyta Bogów ciemności, śmierci i pożądania...

Type O Negative powstał w 1990 roku w Nowym Yorku po rozpadzie poprzedniego zespołu Petera Steele’a Carnivore. Peter jest autorem całości materiału, który pierwotnie szykowany był na trzecią płytę Carnivore. Wyszło jednak inaczej i powstał „Slow, Deep And Hard” - pierwszy album Type O Negative, budujący charakterystyczną tożsamość tego zespołu i stanowiący początek jego wyjątkowej twórczości.

Debiutancka płyta Type O Negative ma w sobie wiele z punka czy crossover, lecz tylko w tych swoich mocniejszych fragmentach. Powracają one wielokrotnie, ale oprócz nich można tu znaleźć znacznie więcej. Kompozycje są rozbudowane, dzielą się na części, które niczym rozdziały w książce potrafią znacznie różnić się od siebie i OPISywać zupełnie inne sytuacje. Muzyka jest zmienna, niekonwencjonalna i bardzo atmosferyczna. Wyróżnia się głębokim i niskim brzmieniem basu oraz klimatyczną grą klawiszy. Jedno i drugie zresztą stanie się znakiem rozpoznawczym tego zespołu. Tu jeszcze nie aż tak bardzo uwypuklone, ale już wyraźnie słyszalne. W kreowaniu nastrojowości pomagają również różne odgłosy. Z jednej strony pojawiają się sprzężenia, stukania, szurania, krzyki, a nawet młot pneumatyczny, a z drugiej dużo tu doomowej parności, erotyzmu, jęków, sapania. Wiele jest kontrastów, często następujących bezpośrednio po sobie. Fragmenty skoczne i szybkie wypływają z bardzo wolnych i ospałych. Type O Negative jest zupełnie nieprzewidywalny, nie przejmuje się żadnymi standardami dotyczącymi budowy utworów i nie ma zahamowań jeśli chodzi o teksty. Panny puszczalskie nazywa po imieniu, urzędniczych darmozjadów mianuje podludźmi, zagląda do patologicznych i zbrodniczych zakamarków ludzkiej psychiki oraz usprawiedliwia własne samobójstwo.

Istnymi odcinkowymi tasiemcami są dwa ponad dwunastominutowe numery „Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty Of Infidelity” i „Prelude To Agony”. Oba są bardzo pokręcone, oba bardzo zróżnicowane wewnętrznie i z wieloma zwrotami akcji, choć ogólnie pierwszy wyrywa się naprzód punkowym graniem i skocznym refrenem: „I know you’re fucking someone else”, a drugi jest znacznie bardziej duszny i w wielu miejscach wolny. To tam w pewnym momencie wwierca się nam w głowę ten młot pneumatyczny. Taki miszmasz klimatu i żywotności dotyczy i pozostałych kawałków, z wyjątkiem „Glass Walls Of Limbo (Dance Mix)”, który jest ciężkostrawną i właściwie to ambientową pozycją, opartą na jakimś przewalaniu żużlu, z klasztornymi chórami w tle. Rzecz ciekawa, bo dobrze zrobiona i mająca swój klimat, a ten zwrot "Dance Mix" w nawiasie jest wzięty zupełnie z kosmosu. „The Misinterpretation Of Silence And Its Disastrous Consequences” to z kolei minuta i cztery sekundy ciszy. Trzeba przyznać, że tytuł do tego dobrany jest intrygująco, więc na wszelki wypadek nie będę kusił się o interpretację tego utworu. Na koniec znów długi, zmienny, ciężki i bardzo atmosferyczny „Gravitational Constant: G = 6.67 x 10⁻⁸ cm⁻³ gm⁻¹ sec⁻²”. Znów dosłownie wszystko w jednym i z drugim wyłaniającym się refrenem: „Unjustifiable existence”.

Właściwie o muzyce Type O Negative dużo świadczą już same tytuły utworów. Pod skomplikowanymi nazwami kryją się nie mniej skomplikowane, zamotane i kalejdoskopowe dźwięki. Mimo to nie można powiedzieć, aby były one przekombinowane, niespójne czy niestrawne. Wręcz przeciwnie, „Slow, Deep And Hard” to kawał bardzo dobrej, bogatej w pomysły, muzyki, która potrafi zabłysnąć i połechtać na wiele sposobów. W tej przeplatance różności wszystko jakoś się układa i kompozycyjnie bardzo dobrze klei. Nic więc dziwnego, że zespół szybko został doceniony i mimo swojej kontrowersyjności, a może właśnie również dzięki niej, od początku zyskał sobie wielu fanów.
