...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI...


Ostatnia płyta tego jedynego w swoim rodzaju tria, które wydając zaledwie pięć longplayów zrewolucjonizowali muzykę rockową ciągnąc za sobą pokaźną armię mniej lub bardziej udanych naśladowców, także w naszym kraju. Tak jak poprzednie płyty, ciężko traktować Synchronicity jako spójną całość. To po prostu zbiór piosenek, z których każda wprowadza zupełnie odmienny klimat, a kolejność wydaje się sprawą czystego przypadku.

Nawet kompozycja tytułowa, podzielona jest na dwie części, z których każda jest zupełnie inna. Pierwsza rozpędzona, z wysuniętą do przodu perkusją i przestrzennym brzmieniem instrumentów klawiszowych, druga bardziej rockowa, z większym nagromadzeniem gitarowych patentów Summersa. Te dwa utwory stanowią niejako klamrę, zamykającą tą "policjantową" część płyty. Bo oprócz kompozycji Stinga, wśród których jest zarówno ubrany w karaibskie rytmy Walking In Your Footsteps jak i jazz-rockowe O My God, mamy tu też skomponowane i zaśpiewane przez Summersa Mother, przerażający, genialnie wprowadzający nastrój grozy pseudo-blues oraz znacznie mniej udane Miss Gradenko, będący echem wcześniejszych dokonań tria. Kolejne cztery kompozycje, będące wszystkie kompozycjami Stinga to jakby zapowiedź jego solowych dokonań. Every Breath You Take, z kultowym już riffem, wiadomo - klasyk. Podobnie nostalgiczny Wrapped Around Your Finger z mistrzowsko wykorzystanym delayem. Nieco żywszy, ale i mniej przebojowy jest King of Pain, natomiast Tea In Sahara to Sting w typowo balladowej odsłonie, pierwowzór takich rzeczy jak Moon Over Bourbon Street czy Sister Moon z jego solowych płyt.

Dziwna to płyta. Z jednej strony stanowiąca genialne zwieńczenie krótkiej, ale wielkiej kariery The Police, z drugiej jednak strony lata świetlne dzielą ją od trzech pierwszych płyt, a nawet Ghost In the Machine. Niemniej jednak zasługuje na najwyższą ocenę.

Torch

W marcu 1983 roku Sting, mieszkający przez kilka miesięcy na Jamajce w domu Iana Fleminga (tego od Bonda), komponuje „Every Breath You Take”, najpopularniejszy przebój The Police. Podobno lider Policjantów miał wtedy tak silną wenę twórczą, że nie dopuszczał do siebie myśli, by utwór ten nie mógł stać się hitem. Oczywiście hit powstał, do dziś pozostaje jednym z najczęściej przerabianych utworów. Przebojem w skali światowej okazała się również płyta „Synchronicity”, najbardziej różnorodna w dyskografii The Police, stworzona z dużym rozmachem aranżacyjnym, w niektórych momentach na wskroś popowa. Album powstał w szczególnym czasie - dni zespołu były już policzone, idea wspólnego grania dogorywała, konflikty wewnątrz grupy stanowiły plan pierwszy. Sam tytuł to odwołanie do teorii psychiatry Carla Gustava Junga, którą interesował się Sting. Zgodnie z nią, zbieżne w czasie wydarzenia, niemające bezpośredniego związku ze sobą, mają istotny sens symboliczny. Sens ten przytacza lider w obu częściach tytułowego utworu, podobnie jak uderza przewrotną metaforą w „Walking In Your Footsteps”, gdzie bomba atomowa skonstruowana przez człowieka ma rekompensować jego słabość. Osobisty, depresyjny odcień przynoszą kolejne hity: „King Of Pain” i „Tea In The Sahara”, których melodyka i klimat noszą już w sobie znamiona solowego Stinga. Po nagraniu płyty i odbyciu trasy promującej album The Police zawieszają działalność na cały 1984 rok. 28 marca 1985 The Mirror podaje oficjalną INFOrmację o zakończeniu działalności formacji.

Pierwszą rzeczą, o której myślę słuchając trzeciej płyty grupy The Who jest to, że jest mój ulubiony album tego bandu. I to zaczynając od okładki a na muzyce kończąc. Dwie oddzielne ramki z przodu pokazują Pete’a Towshenda trzymającego gigantyczny dezodorant pod pachą i Rogera Daltreya w wannie pełnej fasolki Heinz. Na tylnej okładce znajdują się zdjęcia John Entwistle’a z roznegliżowaną modelką, gdyż reklamował zajęcia kulturystyczne oraz Keitha Moona stosującego lek na trądzik z gigantycznej rurki. Są to fałszywe reklamy produktów aprobowanych przez The Who i towarzyszą im zabawne słowa. Reklamy te są również włączone do albumu jako utwory muzyczne. I podobnie jak okładka, „Odorono” i „Heinz Baked Beans” znajdują się na pierwszej stronie albumu, podczas gdy „The Charles Atlas Course” i „Medac” wypełniają stronę B płyty. Grają jak krótkie reklamy, z wyjątkiem „Odorono”. Trwający dwie i pół minuty numer jest najdłuższy, skonstruowany jak prawdziwa piosenka z zabawnym tekstem:

„Ale wyraz jego twarzy się zmienił/ Widziała/ Gdy podszedł ją pocałować/ Na tym się skończyło/ Szybko odwróciła się, by ukryć swoje rozczarowanie/ Rozdarła swoją błyszczącą suknie/ Nie mogła stawić czoła kolejnemu pokazowi/ Jej dezodorant ją zawiódł/ Powinna była użyć Odorono”.

Zespół The Who postanowił na „The Who Sell Out” oprzeć koncepcje wokół idei, że słuchasz audycji radiowej Radio London wraz z reklamami. Ponieważ radio nigdy się nie zatrzymuje, wita cię skrzynka głosowa, która w nieskończoność recytuje dni tygodnia, zanim zespół wkroczy w rozkoszną psychodelię „Armenia City in the Sky”. To utwór napisany przez Johna Keene’a, przyjaciela zespołu i przyszłego muzyka Thunderclap Newman. Keene dzieli główny wokal z Daltreyem a gęsty dźwięk organ wraz z zapętloną gitarą podaną od tyłu powoduje, że ten otwieracz jest pierwszorzędnym kwaśnym rockowym numerem. Maszerująca orkiestra czyniąca wiele hałasu to zabawnie zaaranżowany przez Johna Entwistle’a „Heinz Baked Beans”, będący jednocześnie reklamą produktu Heinza. Pierwszy numer napisany przez Townshenda na płycie to „Mary Anne with the Shaky Hand(s)”. Wysoce melodyjna linia uwypukla gitarowe solo Pete’a w stylu flamenco, co pokazuje, że jest on nie tylko maniakiem akordów mocy, ale także prawdziwym wirtuozem gitary. Zabawny humor The Who jest jedną z ich najbardziej ujmujących cech i nigdy nie jest tak widoczny jak w zabawnym „Odorono”. O tekście już pisałem natomiast muzycznie to fantastyczna melodia utrzymana w duchu lat 60-tych. Oczywiście rok 1967 to już czerpanie pełną garścią z nowinek technicznych a także umiejętne posługiwanie się nimi. Muzyczna psychodelia The Who, typowo angielska świetnie pokazała się na tym albumie. Nakładki, dźwięki puszczane od tyłu, różne zabawne efekty no i klimat swingującego Londynu mieści tą płytę jak najbardziej w samym środku tego szaleństwa. I jeszcze. Czy może być coś lepszego niż Keith Moon na perkusji? A może dwóch Keithów? Brzmi jak niebo dla mnie.

Oto potężny początek jednej z największych piosenek rockowych tamtych lat, który wybucha gdy „I Can See for Miles” puka do twoich drzwi. Tu bębny Moona wyrzucają akcenty z prawej i lewej strony, dźwięki gitary Pete’a i Johna są monstrualne, a o zawrót głowy doprowadza powtarzający się „miles and miles and miles and miles and miles” śpiewany w refrenie. Wszystko to bulgocze pod powierzchnią tej oskarżycielskiej piosenki o zdradzonym kochanku. To niesamowita praca. Podobnie jak w „Our Love Was (Is)”, który demonstruje ciągłe postępy Townshenda w aranżacjach utworów. Te tłuste dźwięki gitary łączone z kaskadowymi wokalami to prawdziwy krok naprzód. Zaśpiewana przez Pete’a „I Can’t Reach You” jest znacznie spokojniejsza ale i ona pokazuje skoki jakie zrobili w studio nagraniowym. To nieskazitelny utwór o starym dziwaku, który zakochał się w znacznie młodszej dziewczynie i nic nie może z tym zrobić. Omówiona w „Medac” plaga trądziku jest spotem reklamowym i przygrywką do wejścia w psychodeliczny wymiar numeru „Relax”. Ciężkie organowe wejścia są prawdopodobnie zainspirowane podziwem Townshenda dla Pink Floyd Syda Barreta. Ten sam nastrój, jaki ma debiut Pink Floyd jest latarnią morską dla „Relax”. „Silas Stingy” Entwistle’a jest następny, a jego ironiczny zwrot polega na tym, że skąpy Silas tak martwi się, że ktoś ukradnie jego pieniądze, że wydaje je wszystkie, próbując je chronić. Wirujące prowadzenie trąbki i bardzo głębokie tony organów wyróżniają tę niezapomnianą melodię. Jeśli potrzebujesz dalszych dowodów na wszechstronność i umiejętności Pete’a na gitarze, nie szukaj dalej niż na „Sunrise”, nieskazitelnym solowym wykonaniu, które jest oszałamiające. To przejmująca piosenka z akordami jazzowymi na gitarze akustycznej i bardzo ludowym wokalem. I na zakończenie płyty mamy ponad sześciominutowy majstersztyk „Real (1 and 2)”. Rozpoczynający się marszowym beatem i zwrotką wyciąga mocny wokal Daltreya, by po czasie zmienić melodię prowadzoną przez stałe organy i napędzającą perkusję Moona. To kolejny przykład muzycznej ulicy ówczesnego Londynu, bardzo kolorowy i pełen wibrujących fluidów.

Moim zdaniem jeśli masz około 18 lat i nie znasz jeszcze tego albumu to jesteś przegrany. Ale pamiętaj nigdy nie jest za późno na zmianę.

Zespół The Who postanowił na „The Who Sell Out” oprzeć koncepcje wokół idei, że słuchasz audycji radiowej Radio London wraz z reklamami. Ponieważ radio nigdy się nie zatrzymuje, wita cię skrzynka głosowa, która w nieskończoność recytuje dni tygodnia, zanim zespół wkroczy w rozkoszną psychodelię „Armenia City in the Sky”. To utwór napisany przez Johna Keene’a, przyjaciela zespołu i przyszłego muzyka Thunderclap Newman. Keene dzieli główny wokal z Daltreyem a gęsty dźwięk organ wraz z zapętloną gitarą podaną od tyłu powoduje, że ten otwieracz jest pierwszorzędnym kwaśnym rockowym numerem. Maszerująca orkiestra czyniąca wiele hałasu to zabawnie zaaranżowany przez Johna Entwistle’a „Heinz Baked Beans”, będący jednocześnie reklamą produktu Heinza. Pierwszy numer napisany przez Townshenda na płycie to „Mary Anne with the Shaky Hand(s)”. Wysoce melodyjna linia uwypukla gitarowe solo Pete’a w stylu flamenco, co pokazuje, że jest on nie tylko maniakiem akordów mocy, ale także prawdziwym wirtuozem gitary. Zabawny humor The Who jest jedną z ich najbardziej ujmujących cech i nigdy nie jest tak widoczny jak w zabawnym „Odorono”. O tekście już pisałem natomiast muzycznie to fantastyczna melodia utrzymana w duchu lat 60-tych. Oczywiście rok 1967 to już czerpanie pełną garścią z nowinek technicznych a także umiejętne posługiwanie się nimi. Muzyczna psychodelia The Who, typowo angielska świetnie pokazała się na tym albumie. Nakładki, dźwięki puszczane od tyłu, różne zabawne efekty no i klimat swingującego Londynu mieści tą płytę jak najbardziej w samym środku tego szaleństwa. I jeszcze. Czy może być coś lepszego niż Keith Moon na perkusji? A może dwóch Keithów? Brzmi jak niebo dla mnie.

Oto potężny początek jednej z największych piosenek rockowych tamtych lat, który wybucha gdy „I Can See for Miles” puka do twoich drzwi. Tu bębny Moona wyrzucają akcenty z prawej i lewej strony, dźwięki gitary Pete’a i Johna są monstrualne, a o zawrót głowy doprowadza powtarzający się „miles and miles and miles and miles and miles” śpiewany w refrenie. Wszystko to bulgocze pod powierzchnią tej oskarżycielskiej piosenki o zdradzonym kochanku. To niesamowita praca. Podobnie jak w „Our Love Was (Is)”, który demonstruje ciągłe postępy Townshenda w aranżacjach utworów. Te tłuste dźwięki gitary łączone z kaskadowymi wokalami to prawdziwy krok naprzód. Zaśpiewana przez Pete’a „I Can’t Reach You” jest znacznie spokojniejsza ale i ona pokazuje skoki jakie zrobili w studio nagraniowym. To nieskazitelny utwór o starym dziwaku, który zakochał się w znacznie młodszej dziewczynie i nic nie może z tym zrobić. Omówiona w „Medac” plaga trądziku jest spotem reklamowym i przygrywką do wejścia w psychodeliczny wymiar numeru „Relax”. Ciężkie organowe wejścia są prawdopodobnie zainspirowane podziwem Townshenda dla Pink Floyd Syda Barreta. Ten sam nastrój, jaki ma debiut Pink Floyd jest latarnią morską dla „Relax”. „Silas Stingy” Entwistle’a jest następny, a jego ironiczny zwrot polega na tym, że skąpy Silas tak martwi się, że ktoś ukradnie jego pieniądze, że wydaje je wszystkie, próbując je chronić. Wirujące prowadzenie trąbki i bardzo głębokie tony organów wyróżniają tę niezapomnianą melodię. Jeśli potrzebujesz dalszych dowodów na wszechstronność i umiejętności Pete’a na gitarze, nie szukaj dalej niż na „Sunrise”, nieskazitelnym solowym wykonaniu, które jest oszałamiające. To przejmująca piosenka z akordami jazzowymi na gitarze akustycznej i bardzo ludowym wokalem. I na zakończenie płyty mamy ponad sześciominutowy majstersztyk „Real (1 and 2)”. Rozpoczynający się marszowym beatem i zwrotką wyciąga mocny wokal Daltreya, by po czasie zmienić melodię prowadzoną przez stałe organy i napędzającą perkusję Moona. To kolejny przykład muzycznej ulicy ówczesnego Londynu, bardzo kolorowy i pełen wibrujących fluidów.

Moim zdaniem jeśli masz około 18 lat i nie znasz jeszcze tego albumu to jesteś przegrany. Ale pamiętaj nigdy nie jest za późno na zmianę.

...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI...


Nie od dziś wiadomo, że Kazik (po dziadku Staszewski) wyjątkowo płodnym artystą jest. Nic zatem dziwnego, że stosunkowo krótko po premierze pełnowymiarowej płyty "Hurra!", trafił do sklepów mini album z sześcioma utworami, które zostały zarejestrowane podczas tamtej sesji, ale nie zmieściły się na regularnej płycie. Do tego materiału dorzucono dwie wersji "Karingi" oraz "Kiedy ucichną działa już" i tak oto narodził się recenzowany suplement.

Broń Boże nie należy jednak traktować tego wydawnictwa jako zestawu odrzutów. Szczerze mówiąc, trudno zrozumieć dlaczego niektóre z zamieszczonych tu utworów nie znalazły się na "Hurra!". "Party jednoosobowe", "Mój Bóg pali się" i "Nastały czasy miłości" byłyby ozdobą tamtego - i tak przecież bardzo dobrego - krążka. Dobrze się stało, że teraz ujrzały światło dzienne...

W kompozycjach z suplementu lider Kultu potwierdza również wysoką formę w roli tekściarza. Zarówno kiedy drwi sobie z rządów panującej nam obecnie "partii miłości", jak i z samego siebie oraz kariery zespołu, któremu od trzech dekad przewodzi ("Kazimierz po dziadku Staszewski"). Także słowa kawałka "Party jednoosobowe" należą do najlepszych w jego dorobku (tytułowe party to bynajmniej nie impreza w potocznym znaczeniu...).

Po prostu: mus dla fanów Kultu.
