Founded in Budapest, Hungary in 2004

SPECIAL PROVIDENCE was formed by Zoltán CSÉRY (keyboards) and Ádám MARKÓ (drums) who both graduated from Kobánya Music Studio. Attila FEHÉRVÁRI (bass) - who has replaced Istvan BATA, the original bass player appearing in all their releases - and Márton KERTÉSZ (guitar, since 2006), graduates of the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest complete the line-up. Besides SPECIAL PROVIDENCE, the members of the band take part in other groups and projects in Hungary as songwriters, studio musicians or orchestrators. They released their debut album in 2007 titled "Space Café" and then were invited to tour with the JEFF ANDREWS TRIO. In December 2008 they released the 2nd album titled "Labyrinth". The band has performed in well-known festivals mainly around continental Europe. The label Musea started to distribute the band's albums in 15 countries since 2010, while in March of the same year they released their first DVD entitled "Something Special".

The sound of the band is based on a highly virtuosic blend of jazz rock/fusion and traditional progressive metal and should appeal to fans of both genres.

'BLACK PASCHA - Пасха в Кракове 2024' is a recording of the stream from the Polish tour 'CZARNA PASCHA', which took place at Hype Park in Krakow. Some of you may have watched it live. This release features over 80 minutes of music with video, including 15 songs available on two CDs and a DVD in an 8-panel digipack with a booklet. Additionally, there will be a double vinyl in a gatefold format and a wooden box set with extras.
Please note that these releases are strictly limited and all copies will contain the band’s autographs. The graphic design was supervised by Diana Sawicka, photos was made by Romana Makówka while the Dobra12 and Hiatsyntos collective ensured exceptional sound and video quality.

This DVD was released to celebrate Ensiferum’s 10 years in action, and I was very impressed!

The concert was recorded on Newyears eve 2005 in Helsinki, Finland. I’m a huge fan of Ensiferum, and have long wondered what they would sound like live, since I’ve never got to see them myself, and it’s a killer performance! The instruments sound almost exactly as it does in the studio, no fuckups or something like that. The only thing which is a bit of a downside is the vocals. Jari was a great, great vocalist, and I think it’s quite hard to replase him. Petri Lindroos of Norther was not the greatest choice in my opinion. He sounds good in the studio, but live he sounds forced. His microphone also have an annoying effect on it, sounding like he is singing inside a box or something. The vocals of Markus Toyvonen and Sami Hinka was a surprise, however. Sinse Jari had such a majestic and room filling voice, I thought this would not be half as great, but as I said, I was surprised in a positive way. Markus, I think, sounds a bit hilarious though, being a 28 year old or something, he sounded more like my age. although Markus struggles with hitting the notes sometimes, it’s just charming, because Ensiferum isn’t supposed to be Iron Maiden or a power metal band with ultrahigh notes and extremely good technical singing or something.

The song selection was very good. I never had a boring time listening to this. Although I was hoping they could play Little Dreamer or Sword Chant, but maybe Markus would have a really hard time singing those Halford like notes in the latter. The consert starts with the intro from their debut album, and then kicks into Hero in a dream, one of the best songs of the Ensiferum discography. It continues with great songs like Tale of revenge, Guardians of fate, Lai Lai hei, Token of time, Iron, and of course, the closer, Battle song.

There’s also two guests on this, Kaisa Sari on Tears and Finnish medley, which she also did in the studio. I think she did a very good job, almost better than in the studio. We also have that Ville Tuomi guy from Amorphis, adding vocals on their cover of the Amorphis song, Into hiding. I must admit, I haven’t heard much of that band, but he does a relatively good performance. I think his screams in the beginning of the song is awesome! Maybe a band worth checking out a little more?

The production is also good, but it could have been a little louder, but that can have something to do with my TV. Although as I have stated earlier, Petri’s microphone is horrible! As the previous reviewer also have mentioned, the crowd should have been a bit louder in the mixing, but it’s not something to wine much about.

I recommend you to buy this if you are an Ensiferum fan, but if you are new to them, I strongly advise you to check out their albums first. But it’s a nice addition to a folk metalers collection.

The above statement is true! As I experienced tough times digesting the band's latest album "Paradox Hotel" I thought that my affair with The Flower Kings was about to end up and forget about this band! But .. that was happening before the magic spin number 11. At spin number 10 I still thought that the music of PH was rubbish and should thrown on a waste basket - resell the CD to the secondary market if I wish. But at spin number 11 everything turned upside down and I truly love the album. So, why so important to love Paradox Hotel before enjoying this DVD / CD? It's because this new live lset contains materials from the Paradox Hotel album. But you are lucky that there is no "Monsters and Men" - the track that inhibited me to digest the beauty of Paradox Hotel. But when I conquered that track, I could finally enjoy the album in its entirety. So, for those of you who do not favor Paradox Hotel because of "Monsters and Men" you are relieved now as there is no such inhibitor. Well, I don't intend to scare you but it's the fact. Instead you have "Hit Me With A Hit" which I'm sure you all will be able to digest easily. Having been a fan of The Flower Kings for some time I was so concerned that the band experienced many personnel changes. The new drummer Marcus Liliequist is an excellent player even though he is less dynamic than Zoltan Csorz. For those of you who have seen the excellent "Meet The Flower Kings" will find that this set has some improvement here and there. The picture quality and sound quality are excellent. Enjoying the voideo while the Paradox Hotel material are being played is to me a very special moment. All the subtleties that I imagined during the Paradox Hotel listening pleasure are now in front of my eyes and damn close to my ears that I can enjoy. I will eventually revise this write-up in more in-depth analysis once I got a chance to spin more than three times.

It's a masterpiece of prog (any sub-genre!) live set that proggers must have!

U Neala Morse’a wszystko działa jak w szwajcarskim zegarku i zgodnie z dobrze znanym planem. Nowa płyta, potem promująca ją trasa i… nowe wydawnictwo koncertowe. Zazwyczaj w „ceglastej”, kilkupłytowej wersji DVD/CD, w której digipak po rozłożeniu sięga pół metra. Jednym słowem, fan chcący mieć wszystko nie ma lekko. Najnowsza rzecz dokładnie wpisuje się w ten klucz, choć trzeba przyznać, że tym razem artysta nieco pofolgował i zaoferował słuchaczom „tylko” cztery krążki. Wszystko pod względem wizualnym tradycyjnie robi dobre wrażenie i ładnie wygląda na półce.

Co tym razem dostaliśmy? The Similitude Of A Dream – Live in Tilburg 2017. Tytuł mówi wszystko. To koncert dokumentujący trasę promującą album The Similitude Of A Dream, jeden z najciekawszych w całej dyskografii artysty. Muzycy zagrali podczas tego tournée także i w Polsce, dając niezwykle udany, energetyczny koncert w warszawskiej Progresji. Zapisany tu występ odbył się 2 kwietnia 2017 roku, ledwie pięć dni później, w klubie Poppodium 013 w Tilburgu. I choćby z tego względu może być dla wszystkich tych, którzy byli w Warszawie, doskonałą pamiątką. Bo holenderski gig jest wręcz bliźniaczą kopią naszego. Muzycy są w formie, pełni zaangażowania, sam klub zaś wypełniony po brzegi oddanymi fanami. Nie jest to zresztą pierwszy ich kontakt z tym doskonale znanym w progresywnym światku miejscem. Wspomina o tym w pewnym momencie sam Portnoy, przywołując tu rejestrację Testimony Live, występy Transatlantic, czy Flying Colors.

Jednym słowem, materiału w wersji koncertowej słucha się z zapartym tchem, bo mnóstwo w nim kapitalnych melodii, muzycznych wątków i technicznej biegłości poszczególnych członków The Neal Morse Band. Mnie dodatkowo zaimponowała ich wokalna dyspozycja. Bo praktycznie, poza Randy Georgem, każdy z muzyków ma tu swoje wokalne pięć minut, a niektórzy i znacznie więcej. Do tego fantastycznie mają dopracowane wielogłosowe figury. Posłuchajcie takich The Ways Of A Fool, Freedom Song, czy miażdżącego, zagranego już na koniec The Call. Całość zarejestrowano przy użyciu pięciu kamer i zmontowano w bardzo naturalny, komfortowy dla odbiorcy sposób.

Na dwóch dyskach CD pomieszczono koncertowe wykonanie albumu, zaś na dyskach DVD, oprócz wspomnianego, znajdziemy także cztery dodatkowe utwory zagrane na bis (Momentum, Author of Confusion, Agenda i The Call). Uwaga! W opisie jest pewne niedopatrzenie, bo zapomniano o Agendzie. Rozczarowuje, w porównaniu z wcześniejszymi wydawnictwami, brak jakichkolwiek dodatkowych materiałów na drugim dysku DVD, dokumentów w stylu making of… Na każdej z płytek słuchacz otrzymuje ledwo około godzinny materiał z koncertu. Szkoda. Cóż, dla fanów mus, choć nie da się ukryć, że tym razem „rozpasany” zazwyczaj pod tym względem The Neal Morse Band prezentuje się w nieco zubożonej wersji.

The Neal Morse Band spent much of 2017 touring the world, performing their epic album The Similitude of a Dream. Now, finally comes the first official live recording of this momentous live spectacle, in fantastic 2CD/DVD or Blu-Ray sets. I was able to attend three of the UK shows of The Road Called Home tour. Apart from simply being a brilliant show, I had the luxury of viewing the show on 3 consecutive nights from 3 different positions: the back of the hall (Glasgow), the front row (on that famous day ‘not by the sea’, that would inspire the song “Manchester”) and a balcony above the stage, being able to see overhead into the drum kit (London). Some people may think it crazy to see “the same gig”, on 3 consecutive nights, especially given that the main part of the set list was a two hour concept album played in the same order. Wouldn’t it become redundant and stale? Well, no, on the contrary – and that was definitely helped by the fact that back, front and above, gave me a totally different experience each time.

What is great about this new live set is that the full experience I needed three nights to capture is all covered here in this excellent set. Of course, the risk of anything being filmed is that the band’s performance is somehow affected by the presence of the camera… not so here. Tilburg is not only a renowned prog venue, but a “go-to” spot for bands filming a show. The beauty of this one is that while the 013 has a character all of its own, the show is an absolute memory jogger for those 3 UK shows and captures all of the highlights in the best light.

I won’t spend a lot of time explaining TSOAD – my guess is if you are reading this you already have a fair idea – but what I will say is that the story came most fully alive during the live performances. For the first time that I have ever seen Neal, and his band, indulged in some (light!) costume decisions, made use of some props, and in Neal’s case, several masks (A Flower? No – a sloth!). Conscious that there was a 2 hour story to tell here, those illustrations brought small amounts of detail and drama to what is already conveyed in the music and lyrics. The torch-lit, “Long Day” leads into the high energy overture, where we get a sneak peak at many of the key musical themes in the album.

At the time of the album release many commented on, perhaps more so than The Grand Experiment, the NMB band members enjoying a bit more prominence, including Bill and Eric singing key songs in the concept album, as well as bringing their musical influence. Take a song like “Makes No Sense”… in the context of the story, it’s not one that makes significant narrative advances, compared to others. Where this track shines is with key changes that bring us sections from Eric and then Bill, with the key, and voices, getting higher. The filming captures this so well, and you can see the joy on the band members faces as the song proceeds. Having done some American and earlier European dates, the band is fully in its stride, taking the material to a new level and even, at times, adding to arrangements slightly. “The Ways of a Fool” got a great reaction in all of the shows I attended, and that’s also the case here, with the filming recapturing the front row singalong feeling for that song perfectly. Contrast that with the, initially, dark and dramatic “Breathe of Angels” which builds towards the incredible climax, which features one of a few variations from the album where Eric Gillette takes lead on some of the vocal parts – the “river’s overrun…” section here is extremely effective.

The aforementioned guitarist also takes charge of the audio mix for this show and in doing so gives us not only a faithful playback of the show, but uncovers depth in the vocals and instrument layering which weren’t so noticeable in the concert hall. Great job, Mr. Gillette!

And you would think that after a 2 hour set, a quick encore and that would be enough? No! This is prog and so there’s another 35 minutes of music and 4 songs to go! The version of “Momentum”, with an added middle section which appeared on the demo, is a nice addition followed by “Author of Confusion” and (the shortest NMB song ever?) “Agenda”! The grand finale of “The Call” brings the show to a close and it’s great to see the delight (rather than exhaustion) on the faces of the band and the Tilburg crowd.

Of course, this is not the Morsefest 2017 performance of The Similitude of a Dream album, which was also recorded last year and included a choir, instrumentalists and dancers (oh and a new sloth mask!). It can reasonably be expected that it will be released as well. Perhaps there was an expectation for that to be released sooner, but what I can say, having experienced this live set, is that it’s an essential addition to the catalogue, and one I will return to many times, to recreate the memories of those shows.

No mistake about it, Haken are simply one of the best damn bands prog has to offer these days. Perhaps the only thing more impressive than their consistently excellent discography (wherein each successive release only seems to cause my jaw to drop ever further) is their impeccable live performances. Like any dedicated fan, I wasn’t about to pass up the chance to catch them on the North American leg of this 2024 ‘Evening With’ tour, promising a full 3 hours of music. That night remains, and likely forever will remain, one of my top 5 favorite shows. As my buddy and I walked out of the venue, I mentioned to him that they had better be recording one of these performances for a live album/blu-ray.

Well, wish granted. And it’s easily one of the best I’ve ever seen/heard by any band. Liveforms is beautifully shot, with a crisp, bulldozing sound quality that matches and sometimes even exceeds the band’s own studio efforts. Every member of the band is in top form as they play to a sold-out hometown crowd of frenzied prog fans. Several among the front few rows are even dressed up in myriad varieties of animal costumes, presumably playing to the theme of the band’s then-newest album, Fauna (or at least, that’s what I’m guessing; it’s either that, or Haken happen to have a pretty sizable furry fanbase over in London).

Speaking of which, the evening begins with a full front-to-back performance of said album. I can still vividly recall my first time listening to it, and being awestruck at the mind-bending complexity of the music contained within, even compared to their past work. With just about every song being chock full of odd meters, polyrhythmic interplay, unconventional yet potent melodic phrasing, and so on, I could only sit there, doing my best to take it all in, and wonder: “How in the hell are these guys going to pull this stuff off live?” I’d already seen Haken a couple of times before; I could attest to them being an incredibly tight unit on stage. Despite that, this is the sort of music I’d imagine even many jazz players would find challenging, if not for the dexterity required, then simply to keep from falling out of time with the other members. But I should have known better than to have my doubts.

They storm through the album with hardly a break to catch their breath, nailing each and every passage with enviable precision and finesse. And that’s when they’re not throwing in extra flourishes to spice things up even further; from Ray Hearne slotting in a few flashier drum fills here and there, to some added/altered guitar and key effects on certain leads, the extended trumpet outro on “The Alphabet of Me”, or the gut-wrenching death growl Ross rips out in the middle of “Taurus”, it all lands perfectly. But perhaps the biggest difference is just how much more organic these songs sound from the studio versions, despite being executed with nearly identical accuracy. It’s the kind of thing that can only come from six guys playing off each other in real time, as opposed to having their parts meticulously assembled after the fact. Coupled with the stellar sound quality, I feel quite confident in proclaiming this to be the definitive version of Fauna. They have well and truly outdone themselves with this one.

And if you thought, as I did, that they’d go straight to intermission after all that, they instead jump right into the epic “Crystallised”, my all-time favorite Haken song. And my god, it’s never sounded this intense. If you’re looking for a performance to illustrate this band’s gradual evolution from a more prog rock leaning outfit to a full-on metal one, it’s right here. Time will tell if I end up preferring this version of the song to the ProgPower 2016 one (the difference between Diego and Peter’s keyboard tones is probably the only thing keeping me from making that call, the condensed intro and outro notwithstanding), but it’s certainly on the same general level.

Act II proceeds to take a relatively comprehensive journey through the band’s prior 6 albums, with a set full of live staples and rarities alike. The Mountain ultimately gets the short end of the stick with only the obligatory “Cockroach King” to its name, though this is somewhat understandable given the amount of material they played from that album on the previous year’s tour (and on the previous live releases, for that matter). “Puzzle Box” and “Nil by Mouth” both make it clear why Vector is Haken at their heaviest and most unbridled, while the Affinity cuts “Earthrise” and “1985” follow each of them with a perfect upbeat counterbalance. Virus gets the two-for-one duo of “The Strain” and “Canary Yellow”, along with an extended keyboard/drum solo in the middle. And then the Aquarius deep cut “Drowning in the Flood” truly comes to life on stage; I imagine this is exactly how they were aiming to get their debut to sound 15 years earlier. And indeed, I can honestly say that just about every one of these songs, whether new or old, stands at least toe-to-toe if not head and shoulders above their studio counterparts.

As they walk off stage, I’m sure everybody who didn’t already know the setlist ahead of time had the same thought: there’s an album they still haven’t played anything from yet. Namely, their second one, Visions, which ends with the famous 20+ minute title-track. Gee, what could they possibly have in store for the encore? Though surely not a surprise for anyone, they play the song to perfection just the same, and end the show with everyone singing along. If there’s even a single minor quibble I could raise, it’s that with so many great songs to potentially feature from said album, it’s a real shame that the title-track is still the only one to appear on any Haken live release to date. I personally might have gone with the three song suite of “The Mind’s Eye”, “Portals”, and “Shapeshifter” instead, if only for variety’s sake. I’m sure none of this matters to anyone else, of course. And as someone whose first Haken show was seeing them play the entire Visions album in full, I’ve clearly got nothing to complain about either way. For what material is featured here, Liveforms is nothing short of perfection, and I can only hope this isn’t the last of these live releases we’ll see from this band in the coming years.

Oh, and the cherry on top? In the behind-the-scenes interview section, there’s a quick video snippet from the show I attended, where I can see myself and my buddy in the crowd. This is officially the best thing I’ve ever bought.

SEMIRAMIS, consisting of very young musicians at the time, were one of the several RPI bands that managed to make just one album in the early/mid seventies, Dedicato a Frazz (1973). I wrote about it roughly like this in my Finnish-language book on international progressive rock:
"Already the cover art gives some ideas about the style and possible influences, and more than to the front cover I refer to the gatefold's inner painting of dark, autumnal atmosphere, which I find in spirit somewhere between In the Court of the Crimson King and Nursery Cryme. But one cannot blame Semiramis for imitating anyone. In the highly dynamic and occasionally very intensive music there's not a single moment that would directly point at a certain band. Well, maybe the clinging percussion on the instrumental 'Uno Zoo di Vetro' resembles the Larks-era King Crimson. For the intensity the album can be compared also to Van der Graaf Generator, even if the sound per se hasn't got a lot in common -- with the possible exception of the occasional aggressive edge on the vocals.

Guitars, drums and bass are being played quite heavily without plainly falling on the heavy rock side. On the more central role are keyboards, varying from harpsichord and church organ flavours to thick synth carpets and jazz-nuanced electric piano. Here and there the intensity of the music is broken by more delicate passages, but perhaps in the end the album suffers from sameyness to a certain degree."

In retrospect, I think I didn't listen to the album as dedicatedly as it would have deserved, when I wrote that last, somewhat reserved sentence. Perhaps I was just a couple of further listening sessions away of naming the album as one of the finest RPI classics, at least on the heavier end of the spectre (as opposed to the pastoral end, which is closer to my heart). I could have re-listened to the studio album also, before writing this review, to find out how my reception might have changed. But even without doing that, I firmly believe that this concert performance from April 2017 simply sounds better. The sound is, how to put it, more open and nuanced, ie. the live factor does really good for this music. The line-up is missing the original vocalist Michele Zarrillo, which may be another reason for slightly more amiable impression. Now, don't start thinking this performance would be less dynamic or 'weaker' than the original 1973 recording. -- Actually I wish someone who's admired the album for ages would review this DVD, just to get another point of view and a closer look on the sonic differences. Anyway, for me, SEEING the band performing the music live often brings the music closer to me. This is exactly what happened now.

This is a DVD+CD set, with identical contents on both, except that the CD contains one bonus studio track, 'Mille Universi'. It's closer to the electric guitar oriented hard rock than the progressive finesse of the concert, which performs the original album Dedicato a Frazz in its entirety plus nearly 9-minute 'Morire per Guarire' not found on the album. Very powerful prog song it is. The DVD extras are a brief picture show and interviews of the band members. This leads us to one remarkable minus on this release: there are no English subtitles (although English language is used on the leaflet), which means non-Italian speaking viewers won't get much out of these interviews. Sad.

Another feature that I'm not quite convinced of, is the way each track is preceded by a near-minute narration, written and spoken by Giampero Artegiani (not listed on the band line-up). The leaflet contains Italian words for both these narrations and song-lyrics. Again, I would have appreciated English subtitles -- or printed translations -- at least for the narrations. On the first viewing of the show these narrations felt quite OK, but most likely they start irritating me on further viewings (on the CD these sections are separate tracks and therefor can be skipped, unlike on the DVD). Sonic level is faultless, and also from the visual point of view the concert film is very good. Several camera angles, a good balance of close-ups and broader scenes, and a fairly good lighting. Close to the ending a human-like, finely dressed doll is hanged up from its neck. Otherwise there are no theatrical aspirations on behalf of the stage settings or the band.

Despite some minor negative remarks I strongly recommend this set if you're interested in the Rock Progressivo Italiano of the classic era, whether you already have the original album or not.

Swedish grindcore band NASUM quickly rose to become one of the most influential acts of the extreme metal underground. But when lead singer Mieszko Talarczyk died in the tragic tsunami of 2004, NASUM instantly ceased to exist. Eight years later the band's surviving members embarked on a world tour with the intent of ending NASUM "the way it was supposed to - exploding in a ferocious, blasting frenzy, not wither away at the mercy of tragedy."

BLASTING SHIT TO BITS – THE FINAL SHOW is a documentation of the band's final, emotionally and sonically pulverizing show in front of a thousand fans in Stockholm. The film applies a raw DIY aesthetic to show the band's final performance as it was, while incorporating new interviews where the band tell their story.

To nie pierwsze koncertowe wydawnictwo Blues Pills, ale z pewnością najlepsze.

Występy live to jeden z największych, jeśli nie największy atut Blues Pills, choć akurat na brak atutów ta nad wyraz utalentowana, międzynarodowa ekipa zdecydowanie nie może narzekać. Nic dziwnego, że pierwszą koncertową epkę "Live At Rockpalast" kwartet wydał jeszcze przed debiutanckim albumem, uwiecznił też jeden z festiwalowych występów promujących pierwszy ze studyjnych krążków "Blues Pills". Jednak to wraz z jego następcą, wydanym w ubiegłym roku i doskonale przyjętym "Lady in Gold" akcje zespołu zyskały na tyle, by wyprzedać na przykład liczącą 1200 miejsc paryską salę Le Trianon. To właśnie tu zarejestrowano pierwsze w karierze Blues Pills koncertowe DVD.

"Live in Paris" to autentyczny wulkan energii. Wehikuł czasu, który przenosi widza wprost w epokę flower-power. I skrócona lekcja poglądowa na temat tego, jak grać dziś vintage czy psychodeliczny rock na najwyższym poziomie. Obawiam się jednak, że nawet cały semestr intensywnych lekcji wielu innym kapelom by nie pomógł, bo przecież to właśnie Blues Pills mają za mikrofonem Elin Larsson - frontwoman idealną, pod każdym względem najlepszą na całej retro scenie. Elin wspaniale śpiewa, prezencją wpisuje się doskonale w obraną stylistykę, a na scenie rusza się tak energicznie, jakby właśnie uczestniczyła w treningu z Chodakowską. Podejrzewam, że większość widzów tego koncertu, po takiej dawce skoków byłaby blisko pilnej potrzeby sięgnięcia po defibrylator. Tymczasem Elin bez trudu i zadyszki wyciąga każdą wokalną górkę. Jakby tego wszystkiego było mało, "I Felt a Change" wykonała samodzielnie, akompaniując sobie na organach. Tytułowa 'Pani w złocie' to synonim śmierci, ale to w końcu wokalistka jest w tym składzie największym złotym samorodkiem.

Na tle Szwedki reszta składu, wzmocnionego na potrzeby koncertu piątym muzykiem - Rickardem Nygrenem, odpowiedzialnym za gitarę i organy, nie musi już silić się na szczególną żywiołowość. Co zresztą nie byłoby także łatwe, bo choćby taki Dorian Sorriaux, nawet występując na rodzimej ziemi ani myśli pozować na gitarowego, uwielbianego przez tłumy herosa. A przecież skromny, wręcz nieśmiały Dorian dysponuje naprawdę solidnym talentem, a zarazem naturalnym wyczuciem stylistyki, którego nie można po prostu się nauczyć.

Cały koncert, podczas którego kapela wykonała "Lady in Gold" niemal w całości, został doskonale zrealizowany. I to poczynając od pierwszych ujęć, gdy zespół wkracza na scenę. Do klimatu retro dopasowano nawet czcionkę i układ graficzny napisów początkowych. Montaż jest dynamiczny, ale bez zbędnych fajerwerków, nadmiernego wygładzania brzmienia i plastiku w obrazie, który tylko wzmacniałby wrażenie nierzeczywistości oglądanych scen.

A jeśli cyfrowy format "Live in Paris" miałby niektórym fanom przeszkadzać we właściwym odbiorze tej retro sztuki, Nuclear Blast ma na to odpowiedź w postaci kilku wersji edycji winylowej, w tym rzecz jasna i złotej. Są tacy, którzy nade wszystko przedkładają widok obracającego się na talerzu winylowego placka, zapewniam jednak, że Elin wraz z kolegami potrafią sprawić, że na czas oglądania przychylniej spojrzy się na telewizor.

Przyznam szczerze, że Marillion ze Stevem Hogarthem musiałem poznać zupełnie od nowa. Przypuszczam, że nie tylko ja. To inny zespół od TEGO Marillion, kiedy przy mikrofonie, na czele rytuału, stał Fish. Wielu „ortodoksyjnych” fanów do dziś nie uznaje tego „drugiego” Marillion – za miękkie, za mdłe, bez tego szału jaki nadawał Derek Dick. Tymczasem to drugie Marillion nagrało już tyle świetnych krążków; ba, uniezależniło się wydawniczo, co jest aktem niezwykłej odwagi, że czas najwyższy oddać mu należny honor. Oni sami są najbardziej dumni właśnie z „Marbles” – cudownej opowieści o człowieku zawieszonym w próżnym wszechświecie. Ja osobiście nie byłem do końca przekonany co do tej płyty – łatwo jej zarzucić wszystko to, co zarzuca się Hogarthowi i jego estetyce. Natomiast na żywo, to co przedstawili dwa lata temu holenderskiej widowni (umownie holenderskiej, jako że na takie występy przyjeżdżają ludzie nawet z Chile) przeszło moje najśmielsze oczekiwania. Dzięki temu wykonaniu zrozumiałem wreszcie jak wspaniałą płytą jest „Marbles”; ba, rozochociłem się jeszcze bardziej w myślach przed Łodzią i czekającymi tam na nas niespodziankami.

O samych piosenkach nie będę nic pisał. ‘Szklane kulki’ powstały kilkanaście lat temu i od tamtej pory jedynie zyskują na uroku. Nie pierwszy to zresztą raz, gdy zostały zagrane na żywo – wcześniej mogliśmy je usłyszeć na „Marbles by the Sea”, ponownie, z weekendowego koncertu w Anglii. To piękna, dramatyczna płyta, która na żywo przeistacza się w epicką baśń, miotającą emocjami od lęku i zagubienia, przez spleen i nostalgię, aż po finałowy wybuch radości i nirwanę uczuć. Na płycie słychać wyraźnie, jak publiczność przeżywa każdy kolejny utwór i uczestniczy w przedstawieniu. Nie rozumiem czemu na wydawnictwach ‘live’ często wygłusza się aplauz widowni; słuchacz płyty w domu ma wtedy mylne pojęcie o atmosferze danego wieczoru. W przypadku „Marbles in the Park” nie popłeniono tego błędu; tłum gra tu swoją znaczącą rolę, nie tylko aplauzem, ale i śpiewem. To dopełnia emocji przy słuchaniu tego materiału. Okiem wyobraźni można bez trudu znaleźć się tam, w Port Zelande, gdzie sielankowy krajobraz współgra z klarownością i efektownością muzyki. Ową sielankowość usłyszymy także w głosie Hogartha, który nie tłumi swojej radości z bycia tam.

„Marbles in the Park” to jedna z lepszych koncertówek jakie w ostatnim czasie słyszałem. Nie jest klasycznym misz-maszem numerów ponagrywanym w wielu miejscach światowej trasy jakiegoś wielkiego zespołu, typu Genesis czy U2. Nie jest to także rykoszet serii „oficjalnych bootlegów” z jakich słynie chociażby Pearl Jam, gdzie obok arcydzieł trafiają się rutynowe produkcyjniaki. Ten wieczór został zapisany i wydany, dlatego że zabrzmiał wyjątkowo. To słychać od wejścia, od pierwszych tonów „The Invisible Man”, które łudząco przypominają „Shine On You Crazy Diamond”. Ale potem robi się jeszcze lepiej – cztery części tytułowego „Marbles”, romantyczne „Fantastic Place”, a dalej dramatyczna „Angelina” i „Drilling Holes” i na koniec finałowy „Neverland”. Odnoszę wrażenie, a wręcz jestem pewien, że poczułem magię „Marbles” dopiero po tej koncertówce. Jakbym tam był i śpiewał razem z Hogarthem, w snopach kolorowych świateł. Zresztą, magii koncertu na żywo nie trzeba chyba komukolwiek tłumaczyć. „Marbles” na żywo, jednakże, to coś więcej – to teatr emocji, widowisko dla wyobraźni. To coś, co chce się przeżyć na jawie; we śnie już tam byliśmy.
