12 maja 2024 roku Jean-Michel Jarre i Sir Brian May zelektryzowali niebo Bratysławy koncertem 'Bridge from the Future', który otwierał siódmą edycję Festiwalu STARMUS.
Na żywo wykonano 22 utwory na tle zapierającego dech w piersiach mostu SNP (UFO Bridge). Po południu, gdy publiczność gromadziła się nad Dunajem z całego miasta, powitano ją zupełnie nową kompozycją zatytułowaną 'Bridge from the future - Live in Bratislava'. Muzyka została stworzona przez Jarre'a specjalnie na to wydarzenie, w którym prawdziwe dźwięki gwiazd zostały wplecione w pejzaż dźwiękowy, zapraszając publiczność do zastanowienia się nad naszym położeniem na Ziemi w kosmosie i przyszłością naszej planety, odzwierciedlając temat tamtej edycji Festiwalu STARMUS.


On 12 May 2024, Jean-Michel Jarre and special guest Sir Brian May electrified the Bratislava skies with ‘Bridge from the Future’, the opening concert of the seventh edition of the STARMUS Festival. The live performance of 22 tracks took place against the breathtaking backdrop of the SNP Bridge (UFO Bridge). During the afternoon, as the audience were congregating around the Danube from throughout the city, they were welcomed by a brand new composition titled ‘Bridge from the future – Live in Bratislava’. The music was specially created by Jarre specifically for this event, where real sounds of the stars were weaved into the soundscape, inviting the audience to consider our position on Earth within the cosmos, and the future of our home planet, reflecting the theme of the year’s edition of the STARMUS Festival.

Elbląski Bóg Śmierci pojawił się w polskim metalowym undergroundzie w roku 1988 i należał do absolutnych pionierów wyłaniającego się z thrashu death metalu na krajowym podwórku, którego zręby w oparach schyłkowego PRL-u budował wraz z grupami Vader, Imperator, Armagedon, Magnus, Slashing Death, Pandemonium, Betrayer, Convent czy Exorcist.



Kompletny zbiór nagrań dzisiejszej TRAUMY. Zespół THANATOS przedstawia podwójny dysk zawierający utwory zarejestrowanie w trakcie przypadającej na lata 1988-1992 działalności.

Mister o wydawnictwie: "TRAUMAtic Beginning" to najbardziej wyczekiwane wydawnictwo naszego zespołu, przynajmniej dla tych z Was, którzy pamiętają protoplastę dzisiejszej Traumy, czyli Thanatos. Poza ogólnie znanymi materiałami z obu taśm demo " Deo Optimo Maximo" oraz " Out Of Sanity ", wydobyliśmy z archiwalnych odmętów na tyle dużo nigdy niepublikowanych dotąd nagrań, że wyszedł z tego dwupłytowy album. Za pomocą TRAUMAtycznego wehikułu czeka Was sentymentalna podróż w czasie do okresu kiedy podziemna scena chodziła jeszcze z pampersem. The "A Night Under The Dam" concert event took place on August 3rd (2006), almost 700 meters above the ocean, several kilometers into Norwegian mountains, under a 30-meter tall dam built in 1939. With 65 million cubic of water above them, the band - together with guest artists and string quartet - performed its entire "Acoustic Verses" album and other material in front of more than 500 enthusiastic people, some of them travelling all the way from the USA, Italy, Ireland, Germany and Holland. This DVD contains the entire live show, including two bonus songs "Two Ribbons" and "Transparent Me" from the sold out EP, extensive photo gallery (170+ images), a behind-the-scenes video and offers full 5.1 surround sound to ensure the best possible viewing and listening experience. This is the closest you can get to the "real thing": A unique concert performed by a unique band.



In the realm of "great live DVDs", there are those which are great simply because they're just a recording of a great show, with everything working perfectly production-wise. On the other hand, there are those which are great because they're something genuinely special, something different than what you'd be able to see even on a good concert. This one is also not that simple, because sometimes even the best intentions of doing something extraordinary may not go right. But then, it may also go wonderfully well and result in something amazing and memorable, something that's truly different and above most such releases. A Night Under The Dam is the best such example I know, and I will be straightforward: this is my all-time favourite live DVD any band has ever released.

It shows basically the final stage of Green Carnation transforming from a doom metal band to something entirely different but no less, and I'd even risk saying more, atmospheric. The DVD is the band's performance of the entire The Acoustic Verses album (which is amazing in itself) in a slightly different order, plus two non-album tracks. It's also more than just the band with acoustic instruments, as for the show it's permanently joined by a string quartet, as well as a few guest musicians on several tracks. For more effect, the whole band plays in suits (I admit this is on my personal "to do" list), under a dam in the mountains in Norway which provides a quite amazing scene. Already at this point, Green Carnation raised the bar of "try to do something more atmospheric" already to a - excuse the poor half-intended pun - mountain level, and the charm of the whole setting is irresistible since the first minute.

As a lover of acoustic guitars as well as all things atmospheric, it shouldn't be a surprise I immediately fell in love with this DVD, and of course there's more to it than just good intentions and ideas. The performance of all songs is absolutely excellent, and while overall rather faithful to the album versions, they have the great "this is live" feel to them, being produced in a way which gives a great, clean sound, but retains that slightly rawer feeling of a live performance. There are also some small, but interesting changes from the studio versions; there are several spread throughout, but Maybe? is probably the most noticeable, as the theremin interlude is slightly extended (with Michael Krumins looking like a genuine serious wizard playing it), and Kjetil Nordhus' vocals afterwards are much more powerful and dramatic than the more subtle performance on the album.

The latter gentleman is one of the most important aspects I love about this band and this release, and here he proves he needs no studio magic nor a wall of electric guitars to hide anything: his voice is unique (if you've heard him, you'll recognise him, end of story), and everything he sings is just full of emotion. Besides the aforementioned Maybe?, which is possibly his most amazing vocal performance here, going everywhere from very subtle to passionate and powerful, there's also the amazing High Tide Waves, where again, he starts very subtly and then joins the crescendo created by the whole band, and his singing is just full of... romanticism that this album is just filled with. The latter also has some vocals done by the bassist (here also often acoustic guitarist) Stein Roger Sordal, who does a fair share of backing vocals and occasionally also takes a lead vocal role here, his voice and style being a little different. He gets to shine the most in the "encore", the minimalistic, sad ballad The Burden Is Mine... Alone, performed only by him and the guest singer Anne Marie Almedal (who also appears with her charming voice on Transparent Me and Six Ribbons). Overall, there is definitely a bit of vocal variety, which is perfectly balanced, as it makes the music even more varied and interesting, but as a whole, Kjetil Nordhus is the lead vocalist and he gets all the necessary space to display his capabilities.

The rest of the band here consists of up to four (!) acoustic guitars, and this is possibly the most amazing use of such setup I've ever seen, as it allows for an incredible, complex sound and melody, which is arranged in such a masterful way that there is never a feeling of the music being "overcrowded". It's hard not to fall in love with the intro to the epic 9-29-045 for example and the thick but discernible texture created by the instruments, or the powerful, dense atmosphere of the instrumental section in High Tide Waves. Besides the aforementioned Stein Roger Sordal and Michael Krumins, the main guitarists here are Bjorn Harstad (present in the band since their second album) and, of course, the completely inconspicuous band leader and founder Tchort. The whole construction is supported by Tommy Jackson on drums, who provides some subtle, tasteful drumming perfectly fitted for the acoustic material, as well as Kenneth Silden on keyboards, most prominent on the almost classical instrumental Child's Play Part 3, here chosen as the opener of the setlist.

Of the "guests" here, it's impossible to overlook the performance of the string quartet - without them several of the songs simply wouldn't be the same, especially High Tide Waves, which is my personal favourite on the album, and is performed here in all its atmosphere and majesty, which is no simple task, looking at the complexity of the track. Their playing adds an amazing amount of depth to the music and provides great background for the more dominating acoustic guitars. Also, for a bit more of string-related variety, we have an electric violin (probably the only non-acoustic instrument here) played on Alone by Leif Wiese, who kind of brings a different world to the stage, disregarding the formal clothing and looking metal to the core. Which is quite fun.

My only complaint is the following: it's too short. After one hour, it really feels like there could be more. But then, forcing a longer show would probably result in it not being this great, so... maybe it's better it remains the way it is? Literally everything here is wonderful, and it's impossible not to fall in love with the music and atmosphere created here. Unfortunately, it appears that this is the band's final release, which is in a way almost depressing, but on the other hand - it's difficult to wish for a better farewell. Green Carnation (at least in the way we used to know them, as according to Tchort he might write another album) ended their discography on a really, really high note, and a lesson for many bands how to create atmosphere in a live setting. I keep returning to it every now and then... And it never loses its beauty.

But maybe they will return one day. Maybe?

Oh What a Night !
By posting "review no. 100" I decided it should be a special one, well, here it is! By watching this DVD I only could have wished I would have been there that night on the 3rd of August 2006, but unfortunately I didn't even know GREEN CARNATION yet back then.

During this night GREEN CARNATION played their entire Acoustic Verses album and some other material under a 30-meter tall dam built in 1939, several kilometers into the Norwegian mountains. They were also accompanied by the "Kristiansand String Quartet" who were playing the viola, cello and violins this night.

All instruments are played very well and accurate and Kjetil Nordhus surely has a magnificent voice. During the last 3 songs he is accompanied by the beautiful Norwegian female singer Anne Marie Almedal. She surely has a voice that accompanies her looks.

Most interesting moments on this DVD:

1) Guest violinist Leif Wiese (with the beautiful tribal tattoo on his right arm) treats us on some of the best violin play I have ever heard in one of my favourite tracks "Alone". This is the song of which the lyrics were based on an Edgar Allen Poe poem. Beautiful!

2) The young talented guitarist Michael S. Krumins playing Theremin on "Alone", another one of my favourite tracks. The Theremin was one of the earliest fully electronic musical instruments invented by Russian Léon Theremin in 1919, and it is unique in that it was the first musical instrument designed to be played without being touched. It consists of two radio frequency oscillators and two metal loop antennas. The electric signals from the Theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. Just looking at Michael playing this instrument is quite amazing. With full devotion and with a lot of spirit. Awesome!

3) The extra tracks "Transparent Me" and "Six Ribbons", which haven't been on any of GREEN CARNATION's studio albums, but were taken from the The Burden Is Mine. Alone EP. Wonderful to hear those songs for the 1st time as part of the "Acoustic Verses" on this DVD.

Negative remarks of this DVD:

Almost none. The only thing I can think of is that this concert could/should have been a bit longer! With a total duration of just under one hour I think it is a bit short, and I'm sure songs from the Blessing In Disguise album, like "Lullaby In Winter", "The Boy In The Attic" and "Rain" would have sounded great in an acoustic setting as well.

Overall, being even better than The Acoustic Verses , I give it the full 5 stars.

Chyba nie ma potrzeby rozpisywania się na temat tego wydawnictwa. Tytuł mówi wszystko. Każdy kto zna dorobek Steve’a Hacketta wie o jakiego Baranka chodzi. Każdy muzyczny koneser wie czym jest londyńska Royal Albert Hall. Każdy kto miał okazję uczestniczyć w polskich koncertach tego artysty na początku maja br. wie czego się spodziewać. Natomiast ci, którzy nie mieli okazji być w Toruniu ani w Gliwicach, niechaj szybciutko biegną do dobrego sklepu z płytami i zaopatrzą się w ten wspaniały album.

„The Lamb Stands Up Live At The Royal Albert Hall” to absolutnie zachwycający zapis audiowizualny występu Steve’a Hacketta oraz towarzyszącego mu zespołu na kultowej londyńskiej scenie zarejestrowany w październiku 2024 roku. W taki właśnie sposób Steve Hackett świętował 50. rocznicę wydania legendarnego konceptu grupy Genesis pt. „The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” i zaprezentował na żywo sporą porcję utworów z tego albumu. Zanim jednak przeszedł do muzycznego meritum zespół Hacketta zaprezentował wybór jego nagrań solowych (z fenomenalnie wykonanym „Shadow Of The Hierophant” na czele), a pod koniec koncertu – także kilka innych klasyków z repertuaru Genesis (m.in. „Dancing With The Moonlit Knight”, „The Cinema Show” oraz zagrane na bis „Firth Of Fifth” i „Los Endos”). W porównaniu z polskimi koncertami w programie płyty brakło miejsca na „Supper’s Ready”, ale trudno się dziwić – nośniki audio mają swoje ograniczenia czasowe.

Jeżeli mówimy już o różnicach pomiędzy zapisem październikowego koncertu opublikowanego na albumie a majowymi występami w Polsce, to na scenie, obok samego mistrza oraz towarzyszącego mu zespołu (Roger King – instrumenty klawiszowe, Nad Sylvan – wokal, Jonas Reingold – gitara basowa i Rob Townsend – instrumenty dęte i perkusyjne) nastąpiła jedna istotna zmiana: w Londynie na perkusji zagrał Craig Blundell, a w Polsce – Felix Lehrmann. Ponadto na scenie Royal Albert Hall pojawili się wspaniali goście. Ray Wilson zaśpiewał w „Carpet Crawlers”, a Steve Rothery (Marillion) zagrał na gitarze we „Fly On A Windsheld”, tworząc ze swoim imiennikiem fenomenalny gitarowy duet. Dodatkowo John Hackett zagrał na flecie w „These Passing Clouds" i oprócz tego można usłyszeć również jego grę na mandolinie, harmonijce ustnej, a także partie perkusji i basu. W kilku utworach pojawiła się też (wokalnie i na gitarze) Amanda Lehmann. Występy gości niewątpliwie wpłynęły na podniesienie poziomu atrakcyjności tego widowiska.

Album „The Lamb Stands Up Live At The Royal Albert Hall” ukazał się w formie limitowanego wydania 2CD+Blu-ray Digipak oraz limitowanego wydania 4LP 180g-Vinyl Boxset (zawierającego 12-stronicową książeczkę). Ścieżka dźwiękowa została zmiksowana przez Chrisa Lorda-Alge, a za oprawę wizualną odpowiadał Paul Green. Wspaniały album koncertowy z fantastycznym repertuarem i ze wspaniałymi muzykami na scenie. I have said it before, and will say it again, but my favourite period of Genesis was the one which contained Steve Hackett, and since his departure he has done much more to keep the original style alive than any of his ex-bandmates, even when they were still called Genesis. Anyone who has seen him perform in recent years will be comfortable with the way he spends roughly half the set performing songs from his solo albums, and the other playing Genesis material with which he was originally involved. There is no doubt it is always a magical night out, and he has been one of the few prog musicians to find Aoteaora on a map, so I have been fortunate enough to see him twice in the last decade or so. I would still like to hear him perform a complete set of his own songs, as when I first saw him some 30 years ago that was what he was concentrating on, but I fully understand why he feels he needs to keep the Genesis flame burning.

Captured at The Royal Albert Hall last year, he was accompanied by his regular band of Roger King (keyboards), Craig Blundell (drums), Nad Sylvan (vocals), Jonas Reingold (bass, variax, 12-string, vocals) and Rob Townsend (saxophone, woodwind, percussion, vocals, keyboards, bass pedals) along with contributions from a few guests in the shape of Steve Rothery, Ray Wilson, John Hackett and Amanda Lehman. For those thinking this might have been a full-blown reinterpretation of what is seen by many as Genesis’s finest album (I don’t), then you may be disappointed as there are only nine tracks from ‘Lamb’, with “In The Cage” being notable by its absence. But before we get to that we have songs from his own albums, starting with three from the then new release, ‘The Circus and the Nightwhale’. I was not a huge fan of that, but they sound much better in this environment so will probably go back and listen again, while songs such as “Every Day” and “Shadow of the Hierophant” are an absolute delight, with Amanda providing wonderful vocals on the latter, with the acoustic guitar giving way to the melodic lead we all know so well.

When the introduction commences to “The Cinema Show” there is recognition from the audience which quickly subsides as everyone settles down ready to be treated and Nad comes to the stage to more applause. “Aisle of Plenty” follows to complete the first disc, and then we are onto the second, and as soon as the piano starts the crowd react to the title cut of their 1974 concept. I haven’t seen the film of this, but I can imagine Jonas with a huge smile on his face as he replicates the heavy-duty bassline. We may not get the full album, but given this disc also includes “Dancing With The Moonlit Knight”, “Firth of Fifth” and “Los Endos” no-one can really complain.

Hackett shows no sign at all of slowing down, even though he is now well into his seventies, and we can only hope he long continues with both new studio albums and touring not only with his own music but with the classic cuts we all know so very well indeed. Indispensable.

One of my very favourite songs of all time is Tesla’s ‘What You Give’ not only is it a beautiful song its simple premise I think is good enough to live by. “It’s not what you got, it’s what you give. It ain’t the life you choose, it’s the life you live.” Amen to that, especially in the strange times and if we all make it to the other side I for one would love to see more of the simple concept caring for our fellow man seep more into people’s consciousness.

So it’s all guns blazing on what most fans must realise is a rewrite of the legendary ‘Five Man Acoustical Jam’ whose sales figures launched that whole wave of ‘Unplugged’ albums that appeared as a deluge in the early ’90’s (but was still best of them all).

Opening with ”Cumin’ Atcha Live/Truckin’ is a masterstroke and a great way to open up, but that momentum sadly is almost immediately lost by dunking us into the less familiar waters of ‘Tied To the Tracks’ from last year’s ‘Shock’ album. Now for me that song was one of the highlights of ‘Shock’ and one that got closest to their 80’s hard rocking roots, but to others less familiar with the Tesla catalogue its enough to make you skip forward immediately when surely the purpose of getting the new stuff on there is getting people to listen and maybe even but it! Even as a fan I find the choice a little puzzling.

What you wanted to do was dive straight into the perfect run of Beatles’ ‘We Can Work It Out'(played here in the room the original was recorded in), followed by (Five Man Electrical Band’s) ‘Signs,’ (I mean sure it’s a great cover but do we really need 5 of the tracks from ‘Acoustical Jam’ on ‘London Jam’?) and ‘What You Give’ – it’s a run of songs that can really be faulted.

‘Forever Loving You’ was sadly for me the least impressive of the three ballads on ‘Shock’ it’s a song that at the time I said “just seems to be missing something – lacking a hook or a thrust as it lays low at the same level without a peak” I stand by that. ‘Miles Away’ from 2004’s ‘Into the Now’ that follows conversely really manages to hit the spot with some wonderful guitar work from Frank Hannon and Dave Rude. It’s a track that shows the richness of the band’s back catalogue.

‘Paradise’ of course is great a real highlight of that previous album and maybe even better this time around but I’d still question the need to repeat a third of the album when the band has so much in the catalogue. ‘Call It What You Want’ saying that might be the best sounding song here,

When I read ‘Stir It Up’ for a second I thought we were in for a genius shot of Bob Marley rather it’s the track from ‘Psychotic Supper’ and a longtime favourite of mine, and that is followed by a nice version of ‘Into the Now’ which in truth has never been a favourite of mine and an acoustic treatment really doesn’t serve the dynamics of the song best.

The closer of course is ‘Love Song’ and I guess it’s impossible to argue the toss there.

A great band who are masters at this type of thing but a setlist that I’m sure will leave some longtime fans wishing for more. The album comes in digital, vinyl and CD formats, with DVD and Blu-ray also available.

This live DVD was recorded on the band’s 2004 UK tour. M3 feature three ex-Whitesnake members - guitarists Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody with bass player Neil Murray. Magnum’s Mark Stanway provides keyboards and Jimmy Copley (Paul Rodgers) bangs the drums. Two vocalists share the songs on here, Steffan Berggren (ex-Company of Snakes) and Doogie White (ex-Rainbow).

All the classic pre-1984 Whitesnake tunes are here like ‘Hit An’ Run’, ‘Trouble’ and the proper, hair free version of ‘Here I Go Again’. The version of ‘Slow An’ Easy’ is worth the admission price alone!

Steffen and Doogie handle the tunes well with Steffen uncannily like David Coverdale in sound at times. Both Moody and Marsden get solo spots of which Moody’s edges it in the enjoyment stakes for the glorious sound of a slide guitar.

The bonus material sees Moody and Marsden performing an acoustic set that features amongst others ‘Child Of Babylon’ plus their memories of the early days of the and their first meeting with Mr Coverdale.

An extremely enjoyable DVD and one that fans of classic Whitesnake will love. Just a shame that Coverdale won’t join forces again with Moody/Marsden/Murray for one ‘last hurrah’.
