Just prior to the recording of Bicho, Caetano Veloso was invited to take part in the Negro Festival of Art and Culture in Lagos, Nigeria. Veloso was so knocked out by the music he heard that he scrapped his original plans for the album to record something more redolent of his experiences in Lagos. Veloso himself refers to Bicho as "sweet melodies on a hot rhythm," and he's absolutely right. A marvelous record. For the record, bicho is the Portuguese word for beast.

Little Big Town is an American country music group. Founded in 1998, the group has comprised the same four members since its founding: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook. Their musical style relies heavily on four-part vocal harmonies, with all four members alternating as lead vocalists; Sweet and Westbrook also play rhythm guitar.
After a recording deal with the Mercury Nashville Records label which produced no singles or albums, Little Big Town released its self-titled debut on Monument Records in 2002. It produced two minor country chart singles before the group left the label. By 2005, the group had been signed to Equity Music Group, an independent record label owned by Clint Black. Their second album, The Road to Here, was released that year, and received a platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). A Place to Land, their third album, was released via Equity, then re-released via Capitol Nashville after Equity closed in 2008. Five more albums have followed for Capitol: The Reason Why (2010), Tornado (2012), Pain Killer (2014), The Breaker (2017), and Nightfall (2020). All of their albums have accounted for 24 singles on Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay, including the No. 1 singles "Pontoon", "Girl Crush", and "Better Man" along with the top 10 hits "Boondocks", "Bring It On Home", "Little White Church", "Tornado", and "Day Drinking"

Nightfall, the ninth album from Little Big Town, takes its title from a shimmering piece of soft-focus pop that effortlessly evokes Fleetwood Mac at the twilight of the 1980s. The hooks, harmonies, and aural sumptuousness of late-period Mac have long been a touchstone for Little Big Town, yet this sound is merely a connective thread on an album that finds the quartet settling into a subdued but not necessarily settled middle age. Making a break from Jay Joyce, the producer who has largely helmed their records since 2012's platinum Tornado, the four made Nightfall on their own, whittling its 13 tracks down from over 30 completed songs. The labor is evident, particularly in the careful construction of the compositions and the subtle shading on individual tracks. Such concentrated attention to discrete moments can result in a touch of thematic incoherence -- the rowdy Mexicali-flavored drinking anthem "Wine, Beer, Whiskey" follows the lament "Over Drinking" -- but the album overall has a keenly ruminative vibe that's not far removed from "The Daughters," Nightfall's lead single that happened to snag a Grammy nomination prior to the record's January 2020 release. The hushed atmosphere isn't monotonous: not only is there room for the aforementioned goofy "Wine, Beer, Whiskey," "Forever and a Night" builds to a gospel crescendo, "Bluebird" is breezy and gentle, and "Sugar Coat" offers a dose of measured majestic melodrama. Perhaps these distinctions are understated but they're nevertheless felt and help give Nightfall a delicate richness; it's music for meditative mornings or for afternoons in need of a dose of consolation and comfort.

Czwórka brodaczy w kapeluszach i wokalistka Nate Hilts prezentują mieszankę folku, neofolku i bluegrass-folku. Ich muzykę można też po prostu nazwać alternatywnym country ze świeżą linią melodyczną, dużą dozą poczucia humoru i zaczepnymi tekstami.

Warstwa instrumentalna świadomie pozostała czysta: gitary, wiolonczela, banjo, bęben basowy i mandolina jako fundamenty akustyczne dla charakterystycznego, pełnego wokalu i harmonii.

Pierwszy album był swego rodzaju obietnicą, której formacja dotrzymała z naddatkiem na swoim nowym krążku „Illusion & Doubt”. Bez wątpienia można powiedzieć, że kwartet z prerii dojrzał - i to nie tylko dlatego, że na banjo gra teraz kobieta. Do energicznych, namiętnych i czasami zaskakująco chwytliwych melodii dodano zmiany harmonii oraz genialną warstwę instrumentalną.

Pierwszy utwór „Boots” przywodzi na myśl niedźwiedzia grizli na ecstasy. Po krótkim i spokojnym przedtakcie następuje zaskoczenie za zaskoczeniem. Niesieni dźwiękami banjo i gitary, uziemieni stoicką wiolonczelą, Hilts opowiadają wolnomyślicielska historię o miłości: surową, uczciwą i do bólu szczerą.

Kolejny utwór „Every Man Needs a Chew” – pierwsza piosenka autorstwa tego zespołu - przyspiesza impulsywnym rytmem, jęczącymi skrzypcami i elementami cygańskiego swingu.

Scott Pringle jest świetnym drugim wokalistą. Można się o tym przekonać słuchając „Dead Man's Isle”, pijackiej pieśni z genialnym refrenem i dziwacznym tekstem. Pijany facet oczekuje od swojego psa, że ten go zawiezie do domu.

Jeśli komuś nie skojarzyło się to jeszcze z The Pogues, to na pewno pomyślał o „One-Armed Man”, innym imprezowym hymnie lekko zakrapianym alkoholem.

The Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir is an internationally renowned World
Music ensemble that performs modern arrangements of traditional melodies. It is most
recognized under their contribution to Marcel Cellier's Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares project.
First created as the Bulgarian State Radio and Television Female Vocal Choir in Bulgaria in
1952 by Georgi Boyadjiev, the choir is now under the direction of Dora Hristova.
Singers are chosen from country villages for the beauty and openness of their voices, and
they undergo extensive training in the unique, centuries-old singing style. Influenced by
Bulgaria's Thracian, Bulgarian, Ottoman and Byzantine history, their music is striking in its
use of diaphonic singing and distinctive timbre, as well as its modal scales and dissonant
harmonies (abundant second, seventh, and ninth intervals).

It is impossible to compile a single-disc greatest-hits compilation for Cat Stevens that will come close to satisfying all of his admirers. The Very Best of Cat Stevens is the fifth major attempt to do so and, like its predecessors, it is challenged by its subject's success. Remember Cat Stevens: The Ultimate Collection is the longest of the five (24 tracks) and may be the most comprehensive. But The Very Best of Cat Stevens , released just a year later, has several advantages that make it more appealing. To begin with, it is the only compilation to sequence chronologically songs from every one of Stevens ' albums, including the experimental Foreigner . It also contains the delightful folk creed "The Wind," which was a glaring omission from the so-called Ultimate Collection . Most significantly, it contains the previously unreleased "I've Got a Thing About Seeing My Grandson Grow Old." Stevens recorded a demo of the song during the Mona Bone Jakon sessions in 1970, but it never saw the light of day until it was remixed for this collection. Perhaps this was because it was considered too eccentric for public consumption, straddling the line between the hook-rich pop of Stevens ' '60s records and the groundbreaking folk-rock of his '70s efforts. If so, the public was vastly underestimated. The song is a buried treasure that fits in perfectly in the company of Stevens ' best work.
