GAEREA to nic innego jak piękna zagadka zakorzeniona w muzycznej ekstremie i absolutnej pasji. W mniej niż dekadę zamaskowany kolektyw, który narodził się w portugalskim Porto, przeszedł przez niezliczone mroczne odmiany metalu, by dotrzeć do swojego piątego albumu i debiutu w Century Media - Loss.

'Zrobiliśmy to, co zawsze robimy - podążaliśmy za instynktem', mówi anonimowy wokalista GAEREA. 'Ale coś mi mówi, że na tym nowym albumie są elementy, które pokochają zarówno nasi nowi, jak i starzy fani, choć niekoniecznie tego się po nas spodziewają.'

Loss to dźwięk GAEREA w procesie nieustannego definiowania i redefiniowania siebie - z elementami post black metalu, wyostrzonym brzmieniem i nawiedzającymi melodiami. Zespół wychodzi z twórczej poczwarki, eksplodując czymś równie angażującym, co nieoczekiwanym: pojawia się śpiew, są refreny chwytliwe i pełne pasji niczym najlepsze utwory rockowe i metalowe. A jednak, mimo emocjonalnego zgiełku, to wciąż
niepodważalnie GAEREA.

Rytualna, zamaskowana obecność zespołu na scenie stała się nie tylko częścią występu, ale integralnym elementem GAEREA, który przenosi ich muzyczną ekstremę w rejony filozoficznego awangardyzmu. Ich uniform został zaprojektowany jako bezosobowa, androgyniczna tarcza, pozwalająca na pełną swobodę w fizycznie intensywnych występach. Choć zespół od dawna stoi na granicy mroku, jego przekaz zawsze niósł w sobie pierwiastek transcendencji i pozytywności.

Z Loss GAEREA łączy estetykę ekstremalnego metalu, otwartość post-rocka i odsłonięte, emocjonalne nerwy, tworząc nowy paradygmat muzyczny.

To jest GAEREA


If you are not familiar with the Portuguese metal warship, you are missing out big time. The 4-piece has been around for a decade and have been making headlines ever since. From straight up black metal to post-black to what they’ve released on ‘Loss’, Gaerea have been pushing boundaries in the black metal genre and they push it even further with the release of their 2026 release ‘Loss’ through Century Media Records.

After seeing them play live in 2022 alongside Gaahl’s Wyrd and Saor, Gaerea took the reins and dominated that show without a doubt. The sheer perfection that outed itself in an almost religious performance by Alpha (vocalist) made me a fan and I purchased their (then) latest record ‘Mirage’. That album pushed some boundaries in the black metal genre and gave them the label (in my books) as post-black metal. ‘Mirage’ was also the last album with Ruben Freitas who quit the band after the ‘Mirage’ release. The then guitarist Guilherme Henriques (Alpha) took over the vocalist duty and in 2024 released the album ‘Coma’. ‘Coma’ received incredibly good reviews and put their name in the spotlight.

With the 2026 release ‘Loss’, Gaerea have cemented themselves as the most innovative band in the world. Probably hated or disliked by the fans who stick to the earlier work of Gaerea but the Portuguese warship continues their journey in the way they want to sail. With the sound being changed since ‘Mirage’, Gaerea brings a newer, fresher and modern sound to the black metal genre through the albums ‘Coma’ and ‘Loss’. Where ‘Coma’ was the scaffolding for the follow-up album, Gaerea took it and made it into a wonderful finished building.

‘Loss’ did surprise me since I have not listened a lot to their ‘Coma’ album but after listening to it prior to the release of ‘Loss’, I do hear that Gaerea has found their sound that should bring them to the top of the charts and/or festivals. With the metalheads (that I speak and talk to) more opening up to intertwining genres, Gaerea will be appreciated by more than just the fans of black metal. ‘Coma’ gave a notice to the modern metal fans but ‘Loss’ will certainly draw a lot more fans towards their sound.

Gaerea’s sound is polished. Gaerea’s mastering is close to perfection. The mastering of the instruments of ‘Loss’ is flawless. With the addition of Delta (Sonja Schuringa, guitarist) in 2023, the Dutch are presented in a perfect picture. With Diogo Mota (drums) and Lucas Ferrand (bass) since 2018 and 2017, Gaerea has a very steady foundation to build further from (then) an experimental album ‘Coma’ to the perfected album ‘Loss’.

With Gaerea’s experience from multiple genres, they have been throwing structures into songs that fit perfectly and flawlessly. Gaerea made hits where you can sing along to. Songs like ‘Luminary’, ‘Hellbound’ and ‘Cyclone’ have been in my head multiple times throughout the process of listening to this album. Like I said, Gaerea not only cemented themselves on top of the modern metal charts but also in my head for many days.

To name one time on ‘Loss’ where you can hear the experience and musicianship, is when the transition from the instrumental song ‘Lbrnth’ flows to ‘Nomad’. That transition almost always gives me the chills every time I listen to ‘Loss’. Yes, you can listen to the songs by themselves but I know that nowadays not everybody has the attention span for taking time to listen to a full album.

With elements of hardcore/metalcore/black metal, Gaerea gave post-black metal a new Portuguese face. Gaerea has built a masterpiece in the form of ‘Loss’. With melancholic elements and moments that will turn the heads of fans of Architects and Sempiternal era Bring Me The Horizon towards Gaerea’s sound, Gaerea will cement their spot in the modern metal scene with their own unique sound. They will make a lot more new fans with this new/perfected sound. With performances on huge festivals like Hellfest (France) and Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium), metalfans will get introduced to Gaerea with full force and might.
