My Last Chapter:
The latest release in the sarcastic, semi-nihilistic, pissed Anatomi-71 way we’ve all come to love. I was expecting something quite grand and powerful-as-hell, but to be perfectly honest the initial few minutes had me feeling very ambivalent seeing as God natt altruism is just way too rock-driven. Now don’t get me wrong; I do seriously dig the tune (and the intro is wicked), but I’ve always had a problem with rock & roll guitar wankery and solos, so I was afraid Från primat till reptil would contain too damn much of this, which left me hesitant and skeptic.
Something I haven’t realized before is how many similarities to Totalitär can be found in Anatomi-71’s sound; the riffing in Hip skit, for one, is just pure Tottis worship. And while there are flairs not-so-common back in the days, this is pretty much pure 80ies crustcore of the Swedish school. The d-beat is ever so present, and the drumming of Putte is incredibly powerful, pushing the songs forward in a magnificent manner. A lot of its power and impact is thanks to the sweet production, which is just bloody marvelous in balancing between clean and raw. The drumming really comes at you just as the riffing creates a massive wall of sound for the three aggressive set of vocals to push the envelope forward. As always the lyrics are supreme with a spiteful, ironic manner not found elsewhere in the genre. There’s a bit of a theme going on, from the title (roughly translated to “from primate to reptile”), artwork and lyrics, but without losing their trademark personal apocalyptic visions.
As already stated the drumming’s just top notch, and the same goes for the riffing since it’s an endless stream of hard-hitting catchiness. There’s not a moment of dullness, not a second of blandness, and Från primat till reptil is undoubtedly Anatomi-71’s strongest release to date. A supreme crustcore experience that even includes a stoner-esque doom track called Omen. It’s a fantastic tune with killer bass play, and comes off a bit as if S:T Erik teamed up with Griftegård for a punk session.
Utter aggression, extremely adrenaline inducing, masterfully delivered in a manner no other band can replicate. A must have of 2011.
