...SIŁA I PIĘKNO MUZYKI TKWIĄ W JEJ RÓŻNORODNOŚCI...
...( Opis )...
If there is a musician whose records should be listened to and whose work should be followed, it is the German pianist Joachim Kühn; because he "breathes" music through every pore, because his virtuosity is never gratuitous, because he is a sublime improviser and never repeats himself, transgressing aesthetic barriers with subtlety and the hunger of a wolf. Here, in 2008, as part of the Porquerolles festival, he offers the experimentation of a transnational trio with exotic colors, a formula far from tradition associating the oud player from the Moroccan Sahara Majid Bekkas (also with the guembri, the kalimba and vocals), and Spanish drummer/percussionist Ramon Lopez; a trio who had just recorded the album Kalimba (Out Of The Desert will follow the following year) for the ACT label. This performance of a kind of imaginary folklore in the making offers a wide sound palette, passing from the most suave melody to the most percussive freestyle, without forgetting to adopt Arab-Andalusian melismas bathed in a Gnaoua spirituality. And it is breathtakingly beautiful.
This concert recording (carefully directed by Frank Cassenti) is interspersed with interviews and a magnificent solo performance by Majid Bekkas. The artist explains that the guembri, an instrument originating from West Africa, makes it possible to play pentatonic phrases that fit perfectly with the expression of jazz and blues (he also gratifies us with some blues and a Gnaoua melody with which his voice bewitches us).
